All Dominican salons are NOT created equal... I have been here three times now because it is just about 5 minutes from me compared with the 15 minute drive to Sintia's Domincan Salon in Largo-area where I usually go. After 3 tries, however, I am NOT charmed and will happily make the drive to Sintias for my blowouts. Simply put, many stylists at Reflexion do not appear to be very skilled in the CRAFT of Dominican blowouts as the women at Sintia's and other area shops are. Evidence #1 is that they are flat-iron happy here and the stylists flatiron everyone's hair after blowing. Flat irons are NOT a part of traditional Dominican blowouts and after the blowdryer/set and blowOUT they should not have to finish your hair with a flatiron. I always get my hair set on their smallest rollers and leave with hardly any curls because they get blown out!! Shame, because the salon itself is SO cute and the people seem nice!! They should focus on hiring some new stylists practiced in the true technique. read more

I just got my hair done. I didn't have any issues. It was an assembly line...shampoo, dry, blowout. What I've learned to do is ask for: -Curly -Only blow dry the roots. -And if you get them to pin curl you, you retain more of the curls. My hair looks great. I have a relaxer, but it's been so long since I had a touchup, that only my ends are relaxed at this point. I brought my own conditioner. And I paid $35. I decided to go here after talking to some friends from work about Dominican Salons. I must say, I do have a "regular" hair stylist who I see on the regular (every 2 weeks). I had just seen her the week prior and participated in a Breast Cancer volunteer event and sweated my hair out. I also knew that trying to get an appt. with her on Mother's Day w/e would be a drag. Ok... The Salon is nice and clean - the decor is nice - they have a few shampoo girls who immediately assist you when you come in. The problem that I had was the stylist not understanding what I wanted done to my hair. Her options were: straight OR curly... My Answer was: CURLY... I paid $45 for CURLY old lady style hair! When I got to my car - I immediately finger combed my hair and put on a head band. I feel bad for having cheated on my regualr stylist AND on top of it all - it really wasnt worth it! This salon has went downhill!! I have visited this salon several times over the years but yesterday's visit was by far the worst! My first problem was tools/product ... The shampoo and conditioner left my hair feeling very dry. Then I happened to glance over into the stylist's work station... Oh my goodness! The combs and brushes were so dirty and filled with hair! I couldn't help but cringe from the sight of the unsanitary tools. The next problem I had was with the way my hair was styled. When I normally try Dominican salons my hair feels soft, bouncy and shiny.... Not this time. My hair was hard from spritz & it felt like no real effort was put in to styling it. This salon is a good salon, BUT I will warn anyone if you have natural/long hair they will charge you for every thing that they do to your hair! I asked for a wash/set and trim. This will be a long review, just a warning. FOR NATURAL GIRLS :) I came to this salon after looking at a style seat stylist page of Evelyn. Her pictures showed a lot of good looking styles especially hair dying/coloring. I came in and requested her and we spoke about hair dying options and after the very high and not expected price tag, I opted to just get me hair washed, blown, flat ironed. Which is still pretty pricey for Dominican blow out prices (NYC it's $30). Anywho Evelyn directed me to the shampooing station and another lady assisted me. The lady told me my hair was dry and that I should do a deep conditioning treatment, I told her to go ahead after asking what was in the conditioner, she said protein and oils (not descriptive). I set under a steamer for about 10 mins. After she washed it out the lady then aggressively combed my hair and put rollers in. The lady was combing and parting with a small tooth comb, which is not good for curls. While under the dryer I was checking out the other people getting their hair done and I noticed they were using A LOT OF HEAT. So i looked up reviews and saw all the horror stories and decided I would only let them flat iron my hair just to play it safe. Once I got out the dryer Evelyn FLAT IRONED MY SOUL lol she was using heat protector but her flat iron was too high and they were also outdated/not professional. Anyway my hair turned out great BUT it was BONE STRAIGHT. She did a pin curl it but my hair ended up so flat, not what I'm used to after a Dominican Blow Out. Evelyn suggested that I get a trim but i watched how the other stylist trimmed and it was not professional, they were chopping inches. 3 days later I have washed my hair because it was too flat and I was scared that the heat ruined my natural curl (it didn't but I feel like I lost body). I did not have any hair breakage like other clients. PROS: Evelyn seems like a good stylist and her coloring skills are good (well in pics), the service is quick, and the salon is nice CONS: None of the stylists are personable, they don't engage with clients, only amongst themselves and in Spanish. The prices are high and inconsistent. The products they use are not of high quality. There is a lot of heat used. Overall, natural girls beware, I wouldn't risk it. But If you want bone straight hair go ahead just be careful and maybe opt out of the blow drying. Also if you want to get a weave colored I would suggest Evelyn, I wouldn't color my own hair given my experience with the products and etc. hope this helps. read more

I've been going here since they opened a couple years ago. One thing is, you have to go to one person regularly. FInd someone you like, and stick with them. I have done that and the girl that does my hair has been great (Evelyn). I only go if she is there, I've stopped letting the others touch my hair. They just aren't consistent. I come to the salon with my hair washed and with the conditioner in because I trust how I wash my hair and the products I used (or I come already blown out). If I'm feeling lazy, I let them wash it, but I feel my hair to ensure it's clean and all the shampoo is washed out, I also will bring my own products. Some of the stylist do use too much heat on your hair, and I have literally been burned. I vowed that one would never touch my hair again, and she hasn't. Some don't do your hair like you ask, but you need to be clear because there is a language barrier. Depending on the day and time you go, there can be a bit of a wait. Go either really early or mid day. I avoid Tuesdays, which is when they have the discount, it's entirely too hectic. I have long thick hair and I can be out in a couple hours, which I appreciate (but again I usually come with my hair washed already). When they get busy and aren't fully staffed, it can be brutal, especially when most are waiting for the same stylist. Overall, the location is convenient to where I live and I can get what I want, don't get over or under done hair, not oily or dry. I get what I ask for and what I pay for. I've only been here one time, and kept to my word of never going back. I took my weave out and needed a good trim and blow out. I normally go to Sintia's in Largo, but for some reason they were closed due to a burst pipe or something i don't remember, so I tried this place because i had to go to work later that evening and it was relatively close to my house...bad idea. First I called ahead because i had already washed my hair, and had given myself a hot oil treatment and good deep condition, and I told them that over the phone because i did not want them to wash my hair again, just rinse out the product, and whoever answered the phone said it was fine. I also told them I was transitioning at the time and they still quoted me the price of $35 over the phone, so in all I was expecting to pay $45 with the trim included. When I got to the sink, they told me they needed to shampoo my hair again because it had oil in it and I told them it was the treatment. I really didn't have time to debate so I just said whatever wash it again if you have to. The washer wasn't paying attention so she burned the hell out of my scalp. After I screamed that the water was too hot she lowered it and apologized, but my scalp was already sore. Then, I went to the person to roll it up, and she told me she couldn't roll my hair which I didn't understand because at least half my hair still had perm in it, and there were girls in there who were completely natural who were rolled up and sat under the dryer, so I asked the stylist why my hair could not be rolled up too and she said because I had two textures of hair (which I found out later isn't even true), but once again no time to debate. Finally, sat in the stylist chair and she tells me they are going to have to just blow dry it straight which I wanted to avoid in the first place because my hair isn't that thick, and I didn't want it to be flat, and she said it wouldn't be, so after they had already washed my hair, they tell me that they are now going to have to charge me $75 to blow it out. And they said it in a form of a question, as if me leaving the salon with wet hair was an option. I was furious! The woman then asked if i wanted her to pin my hair up since it was raining outside and I said sure. I get to the receptionist and she tells me my price is $88!!! I look at her like she is crazy. $75 for the style + standard flat iron, $10 trim, $3 bobby pins. I gave her $85 and told her I refuse to pay a penny more. I was one step away from ripping each of those bobby pins out my hair and throwing it at her when she told me not to worry about it. I stormed out of there so fast! If I did not have to work I would have let them call the police and tell them that I refused to pay so I could let them know what kind of business they were running! But once again, no time. I just hate when people are deceitful. Don't say one price when you know good and damn well it isn't! So if you value your hair and scalp, and money stay away! I didn't even like my hair the first day, it looked super plain but it did look pretty good the next day, but flat the day after as I expected. read more

*update* I have to change my response. It's definitely changed since I first went in. I didn't go to Evelyn the last couple of times because she wasn't in. I don't understand how a stylist can get an attitude because you're not happy with the way she styled the hairstyle you are paying for...AND mumbling in Spanish doesn't help either...My hair didn't even last for an hour with no humidity either. My hair looks dry and the curls have fishhooks. I can smell my burnt hair after I left, not too thrilled about that either. The prices fluctuate, it's a different price every time I go in. Even when I walk in and ask for the price, they ALWAYS try to charge me more when I get out of the chair and I have to remind them of what I was quoted. I came to reflexion by recommendation by my sister who has natural, long hair. She is also VERY tender headed, I remember many many years of her wincing and crying when our mom did her hair. The fact that she recommended Evelyn won me over but I had to see for myself. What I find most annoying about most salons, is that they have hardly no regard for your scalp when blow drying. I find this quite different here when I go to Evelyn, who my sister referred me to. The shampoo was thorough and the styling process was fast. Don't even waste your time. I used to go here for blow outs because they were really close to my house. The stylists are nice but really don't speak any English, the depend on a few teenager shampoo girls to what you want. I did not have any bad experiences with relaxers there because they do allow you to bring your own relaxer. Like the other reviewers stated: they are flat iron happy. I always use a mild relaxer and pride myself on having resilient hair but after several months going there my hair began to break off! I think it was because of their very high dryers, the hot blow out dryer, and the super hot flat iron! My shoulder length hair was down to 3 or 4 inches in certain places! It was awful :( I ended up cutting off all my hair (I actually love it) and have no problem trucking my butt to DC to go to Salon Revive. Even on days like today when I really need to get my hair done and I'm tempted to just walk-in to some place closer, I'd NEVER go back here! read more

I have visit the salon in Waldorf for a several times for color, hair cuts, a blow dry. The price is very high, customer service is terrible; they have the music very loud or the staff cell phones listening without head phones on; when you wants to go for a spa is not a good place, you want to feel welcome as well. The owner treat the staff with lock respect and non of professionalism, yelling at them even while a client is on hold on the phone. (This was my case) I have visiting this place because a girl who works there is very nice and professional, her name is Maria. But other than that is not acceptable when you put a complaint to the owner, and she never apologized or accept a suggestion; she doesn't even care what customer service means. I have been going to Dominicans off and on forever more specifically the ones in silver spring...but that just isn't convinient anymore...so I tried this one more than once...so this isn't just 1 bad experience My hair has broken off sooooo much after going to reflexion in Oxon hill I only use one stylist for relaxers and trims...(aa stylist) I only use heat when I sit under the dryer...no flat iron or blow out ever...with these non liscensed unskilled people working under the owner's license My hair started shedding/breaking after my regular aa stylist went on maternity leave and I went to them every 2 weeks for 6 weeks....when my reg stylist returned she informed me my curl pattern had changed and my hair was damaged and needed serious trim...wtf... I saved the plastic sandwich bag full of my broken hair...it was really disappointing....I will never be back! Plus they are over priced and the chairs are uncomfortable.... My stylist has been giving me protien treatments...so the breakage has stopped, but the damGe is done.... Reflexion in oxen hill is the devil...(is it legal for none of their cosmotology license to be invisible? Even the worst, dirties nail salons have workers with valid state licenses.... Update: EVILyn, is the absolute worst...I must be glutten for punishment....went just to get a wash and set this time, brought my own shampoo and conditioner... EVILyn, was the only blow dry girl there and her boyfriend was at the front desk....(eating a 5dollar foot long from subway...) It looked like someone just blowed dryed my hair and thats it! The stylist had to put additional heat on my hair with the flat iron making my hair flat to make my hair curly, which dropped in15min (from the salon to my house with the AC on) I was very mad & unhappy with the outcome of my hair!!! I do a better job myself... Lesson learned don't go to any salon because of convenience and I've tried several Dominican Salon's in the area. Going here was a waste of time & my money. And if you have long natural hair they charge extra for that as well... I am better off driving out the way to Giovani's in Adams Morgan where I know my hair will come out the way it should. read more

DON'T GO TO THIS SALON!! They try to get you in with the $15 off on Tuesdays, but they charge you for so many extra things that you end up paying the same price if not more!! I will never go back again....EVER!!! OK, so I have natural hair, which supposedly they "specialize" in. When I came in my hair was in a ponytail. The lady told me it would be $50 instead of $35 if I wanted to skip the rollers and have a straight blow-out. I told her I would think about which one I wanted. I went to get my hair washed, and I even had my own conditioner. The lady who washes my hair tells me that I CAN'T get my hair rolled- because "its natural." I have her call the manger over, who tells me that I have to get a straight blow-dry because my hair is natural "and it would take too much heat to get it straight otherwise". I have never heard of anything like that before in my life. With my hair dripping water, i had no choice since they were REFUSING to roll my NATURAL hair (even though its been done plenty of other times at other places). When the woman started blow-drying my hair she asked me how I wanted it. I said curly, which is why I wanted the rollers. So she said it would be $10 extra to make it curly.....WHAT. I scratched that. But I did need a trim. Why was I charged $70 at the end. And yes, that included the mysterious $15 off. And the whole time I was getting my hair done my "stylist" was laughing, talking, and even dancing with another worker in the salon. It was the worst. I won't even drive past that place anymore. Despite the salon being under staffed I had my daughter go for a wash & set the day before school started. We arrived around 11a & left by 230p. I had her get a deep conditioner but had to ask how much it was, something I thought should've been told to me first. I only wanted her roots blown out but I noticed the language barrier with the stylist so I asked her to blow all of her hair & flat iron. The stylist decided to add curls instead of a plain flat iron. The overall outcome was gorgeous but I was charged $80 which is CRAZY! I asked the owner for a breakdown and I was told it's extra for styling. I explain that I didn't ask for it and the owner told me next time stop the stylist. Do NOT get your haircut here!!! They're butchers! I cannot speak on their blowouts but the stylist didn't understand the concept of long layers. I wanted 12 inches cut off but with her "layering technique" the shortest layer was closer to 20-22 inches just hacked off. At one point I stopped her (before it was too late and I still had my length) so I'm not sure if she panicked, made a mistake and tried to fix it or if she's simply incompetent. Either way, if you want to save yourself hours of tears, I suggest you look elsewhere. I wish I could give them LESS THAN one star!!!! read more

Too much heat. My Hair was permanently damaged and had to be cut. There IS a way to flat iron natural hair and not ruin your curl pattern. Unfortunately they do not know how to do that here. Heat under the dryer, heat with the super hot blow dryer, more heat with several passes of the super hot flat iron (when only 1 is needed for my hair). Reflexion Dominican Salon is my first experience with Dominican styling and I must say from an operational aspect that I was impressed with the efficiency and functionale of the salon as it runs like a production line. When you arrive you're immediately directed to the hair wash station, follow by the roller station, then directly under a dryer. After your done drying then off you go to the next available stylist. No appointments are required and the waiting time for each function is minimum unless you require additional services or a particular stylist. The salon is conveniently located less than 10 min away from my home. Despite the efficient operation and location, the quality of service doesn't match. The stylist are not diverse in their styling nor the English language. All they know to do is to flatiron your hair straight. It's a cookie cutter styling method. Everyone walks out the door with the same style. And communicating what you want is difficult since the stylist speaks or understands no English. They rely on the manager to translate. What I can't understand is why roller set the hair, then blow dry and flat iron it out??? It makes no sense to me. My hair suffered the stress of this and began to shed severely. So I discontinued my visits and used Apogee treatments to get my hair back to normal. After my break I returned for the convenience of getting in and out without an appointment. But, this time I simply requests the roller set only with no blow drying out and flatironing. The stylist blow dries my edges and roots a bit and that's it. I love it. read more

I always passed this place going to my favorite beauty supply store so I decided to give it a try. When I first walked in the lady told me about the 15$OFF special on Tuesdays and its 35$ for relaxed hair. So i said hmmm Ill come back Tuesday I need to save where I can. Tuesday comes and I think I'm going back to get my 20$ blowout. I walk in and I am seated, washed and set. While under the dryer I striked up a conversation with a lady next to me who suggested who I should let style my hair. Once I was dry I went to her to let her style it. I asked for my hair to be straight with a part down the middle. The part was so far back on my head it looked crazy, then after she blowed it out she went back over my hair with a flat iron. EEEEEEEEEK. I wanted to cry, my hair was not bouncy like other Dominican Experiences I have had. Initially i told the girl at the counter that I wanted the Alter Ego relaxer she looked at my hair and recommended some special Dominican relaxer. I agreed to it and was seated. I a was given to the next available stylist. She sprayed my hair with Olive Oil sheen but she did not base my scalp. I thought to myself, this relaxer must be super mild especially since she scratched my hair a few times with comb while parting it. After relaxing only the back i began to feel a tingle. I told her that we needed to wash it out. She continued to work on the front by the time she was finished the front of my hair i was officially burning in the back. she took me to the sink and rinsed the back but by the time that was washed out the front was burning. she washed that out and my scalp was numb. The deep conditioner she used was horrible and made my hair feel crunchy. I had to rewash and deep condition the next day. The girl who rolled my hair even asked me if I was given a deep conditioner. I told the owner about the experience, she apologized but did not offer me a discount just a flier to come back on Tuesdays when it $20 for a wash and set and she put some cinnamon oil on my scalp. I give the business 4 stars with reservations - NOT ALL OF THE STYLIST ARE GOOD! I started coming to this salon because it was close to my home and relatively inexpensive (WAY less than what I'm used to paying at some DC salons). The first time I went I LOVED my hair! I've been to other Dominican Salons and I thought it was comparable. My hair was soft and straightened (I had about 1 inch of new growth - needed a touch up REALLY BAD!). While I did notice that a number of the customers around me received flat irons, I was asked by my stylist if I wanted my wet set straight and I said no. She was able to straighten my new growth with a hand dryer (I'll admit - it was VERY HOT). She used some serum in my hair that made it soft, but didn't weigh it down (I think she said it was anti-frizz). I asked for big waves (my hair reaches my bra strap) and that's what I got. I was very happy with the way my hair felt and looked - shiny and healthy, but not weighed down. A young stylist sitting near the front did my hair that day. Her English is not so good, but I'm sure it was way better than my Spanish. The next couple of times, the service was just as good. I got a touch up once. I was happy with the results. Every time I went I was asked if I wanted to wait for a particular stylist, I said no, thinking they were all about the same and wanted to get out as quickly as possible. However, the last time I went, I was not as happy. I was fine with the wait (never more than a few minutes), shampoo and roller set. When my dryer was finished, a stylist I had never seen do anyone else's hair asked me to sit in her chair. I say okay and sit. She asked if I wanted my hair straighted with a flat iron, I said no. She used the hand dryer to blow out a lot of my curl. I told her I wanted big loose curls. I think she may have used something hair, but it felt very dry and brittle. I had about 3/4 inch new growth and it was not straightened at all in the front. I wasn't happy with it all but was too tired to complain. My mom decided to treat my daughter to get her hair done before she went back to jersey. This was after thanksgiving 2016. She gave us the money and off we went. 1 person was ahead of us and it was nice and clean. She got her hair washed and got an instant conditioner just so we could be done before the lady ahead of us who is now under the dryer (petty). Nope we still had to wait because the "stylist " wasn't there yet. So now the stylist arrived and is discussing the price with the lady ahead of me I hear $85 my mouth dropped. Trying to reason in my mind why the price is so high.... did she get a touch up, color blah blah blah. So I said excuse me how much is a blowout, trim and wash for my daughter's hair. She said ummmm $95. Total shock. She said because her hair is thick and long. Her hair barely touches her shoulders. Luckily grandma gave her money because I would have left. Being from jersey that would have cost $30 or $40. Off topic: My daughter was confused because they kept calling her "Mommy"..sit in the chair mommy, hold your head down mommy etc. that was funny to me. Pretty salon, poorly trained stylists, burned out a chunk of my hair. If your hair is relaxed you will be fine. Not natural friendly.

All I can say about Evelyn at this location is beyond amazing. I 1st came here in on a Sat. after the person that was suppose to do a full weave canceled 1 hour before my appointment. Mad and trying to figure out what to do, not from the area never having a weave and hair washed( as the previous) stylist requested I hit Instagram. Evelyn pics looked great, however it was Saturday after 3 I was sure she booked but I figured what the heck I try. I sent her a message and she called 30 min later and said she would take me &430, even though they closed at 5. The job she did was simple amazing she knows her craft. I can't thank her enough .
