What's nice about this place is that they offer a variety of the fried foods Puerto Rico is known for- alcapurrias (fried fritters) and pastelillos (empanadas). I ordered the pastelillos de jueye (crab), garrucho (conch- HIGHLY recommended!!), pulpo (octopus), and Pollo (chicken). The 2 favorites of mine were the conch and octopus because the chunks of meat were so ginormous! They were also flavorful and fresh! You can tell they weren't stored for a while on some shelf. They tasted like they were caught that morning. One caveat about this place is that if they run out of food, they will tell you it's about a 5-10 minute wait to make more. Not the case. It took them upwards of about 30 minutes to make it and they did not seem like they were in a rush to make it. That is a big put off. That's why this is only a 4 star review and not a 5 star. They'd make more business if they were faster.

It's small, loud, a little gritty, and completely inviting--exactly what a true dive bar should be. The walls are covered in graffiti and stickers from years of visitors leaving their mark, and honestly, that's part of the magic. You can't help but look around and smile at all the personality packed into such a cozy space. One of my favorite details? Look over to the right corner of the bar and you'll spot what looks like a vintage cash register straight out of the 1800s. Then right in the middle of the bar you've got the modern point-of-sale devices. The contrast is hilarious and perfect--old-school charm meeting modern bar life. There's a pool table, plenty of seating for such an intimate spot, and yes, a restroom inside (always appreciated in Old San Juan!). But what really makes this place stand out is the service--the staff is fantastic, welcoming, and they pour seriously strong drinks that are also refreshingly affordable. This is the kind of place where you come for one drink in the afternoon and suddenly the whole evening disappears in great conversation and good vibes. If you're wandering the streets of Old San Juan and want authentic dive bar energy, great drinks, and a place full of character, this is absolutely a must-stop. Highly recommend.

One room, the main area had salsa, dancing, and music and eventually at 9:30 PM a live salsa band came on. That was a whole lot of fun however it was very crowded. The second room had a nice house music going on. There was a bar and a DJ and it was not as busy as the main area was. And the third room was the bar that leads to the outside called La Cubanita, which was playing mellow lounge music with a tropical beat. The food at La Factoria was definitely overrated and just OK. I did not think it was worth the price and I probably would not eat there again. None of us really liked what we ordered, but we ate it because well... We were hungry. They do offer a wide range of beverages from your standard beer, wine, and top shelf brands, however, they are known for their own concoctions. All of the drinks we ordered were delicious. Overall, we had fun, and it was not too pricey for the beverages. I don't think that I would ever go again, especially not later in the week as it is so busy, and we went on a Monday and we were dancing cheek to cheek!!! Enjoy!

These reviewers had eaten in the track's restaurant and had great things to say about it. "The food is yummy." "It has big windows overlooking the track." "It's airconditioned." All very important things. However, when we called the Hipodromo that Sunday morning (and finally were connected to a real person after multiple attempts), they were unable to tell us when exactly the restaurant opened for lunch (around 12:30 probably... or maybe closer to 1:30). Also, the first race didn't start until (maybe probably) around 3 PM, so we would have had to wait for a while with a great view of an empty track. We checked out the menu online, and the food seemed pricey for what it was, so we decided to eat lunch in Carolina on the way over and just come to check out some races. I'll admit the restaurant does look pretty nice, and the people inside looked happy. For good reason. They get to hang out in a glass fishtank with great views and airconditioning while the rest of us are stuck in the stands which offer backless benches literally covered in trash and pigeon poo. Ew. Now I understand why the food in there is pricey; the space alone makes it worth it. Us lower-class horse-watchers were left in the hot outdoor stands, mostly viewing an empty track and waiting since all the start times of the races were late. I'll admit it was kind of fun to bet on the horses. The minimum bet was $2, so I went all out on a win for a horse because I liked his name (Guagua Escolar.. which translates to Schoolbus). Surprisingly, this Scholarly Bus indeed won, so I walked away with a whopping $4.60 (well technically $2.60 since it cost me $2 to play). The Hipodromo Camarero was definitely a different experience. We probably would have enjoyed our time more had we been inside the restaurant, but the outdoors section made us feel pretty dirty and isn't somewhere you'd want to be for an extended period of time. Gambler grandad didn't even put money down, which is saying something. I was outta there after 2 laps around the track, with an extra $2.60 jingling in my pocket and an immediate desire to go do my laundry.
