Joe and Sophie were not only incredibly knowledgeable about the glacier and the surrounding area, but they also kept the group entertained with their great sense of humor. They did an excellent job keeping us on schedule, ensuring we made it back to the cruise port with plenty of time. Their professionalism, organization, and enthusiasm made this one of the highlights of our Alaska trip. We booked through Tripadvisor and the cost for the canoe for each person was about $230 each (pricey, I know). We were pretty bummed when we found out that our tour didn't include getting off the canoe to get up close to the glacier, especially since the price was quite steep. The photos on Tripadvisor and Viator show that the people do in fact get off the boat, but apparently it was incorrect (false advertisement imo). What I will say was the saving grace was the fact the scenery of this canoe ride was epic. There's a lot that can't be seen unless you take a helicopter, seaplane, kayak, or canoe up close to the Mendenhall Glacier. Our tour guide, Dawson was also great. He was full of dad jokes throughout the whole canoe ride. P.S. Don't think you're gonna get off this easy! The canoe ride was an exercise to say the least! My arms were sore the next day!

In Juneau, we did the Whale Watching tour on Lynn Canal and it didn't take long to spot the first whale diving right in front of us. Unfortunatelly to fast for us to get our cameras out. But during the time out there, we spotted several whales and enjoyed the beautiful scenery as well as the funny and informative comments our captain and our tourgide gave us. We learned quite a bit about the region, whales and history. The snacks and water they provided, was a nice catch. Right off the boat we were transported to the airport for a helicopter trip over the Juneau Icefield and to Herbert Glacier. Our pilote took us safely from and to the airport and gave us a brief intro about the icefield, its glaciers and the surrounding areas. Landing on the glacier and taking a stroll was simply amazing, also because the weather was perfectly sunny. The trip was certainly worth every penny. In Skagway we did a bustour to the Yukon territory. Our busdriver was not just very knowledgable about the tour but also had tons of funny stories about life in Alaska to tell. Time flew by while we enjoyed the beauty of Alaska and Canada on this tour doing several stops for picture taking, walks and lunch at a husky station. Alltogether, the tours were expertly organized and we were in very good hands with the gides we got for our tours. They certainly made a major contribution to my fantastic time in Alaska.

Chris have had before on my very first whale watching trip and she's very very special, adorable and wealth of knowledge. Plus, hopefully, a captain in the making. Coral took the naturalist lead this trip and was amazing. What a wealth of knowledge she is. The captain kept us all safe and informed, keeping us our as long as possible before the inevitable end of our trip. Really truly amazing the whole crew has been. Highly recommend any of their tours. This was my third one and each memorable in their own right though first one was the most memorable 3 years back. Just a minor thing compared to one the well before. It would've been nice to see the whale lookup stats on happy whales. Each crew is thankfully uniquely different, really enjoy each and every time have gone out. Please keep it up and do the fantastic job you are.

We booked the Private Van Tour with Driver - 14 Passengers through…read morePrincess for $750, based on the description that it was a customizable private Juneau tour and that additional entrance fees might apply depending on destinations selected. What was not disclosed is that nearly every stop outside downtown Juneau came with an additional $4-$5 per person charge, even for locations that are free and have no admission fee. We didn't receive this information until after boarding the ship, just three days before the tour. For a group of ten, these extra charges added up quickly -- we were even told that stopping briefly to take a photo at the whale statue would cost an additional $50. That is not an "entrance fee." It's an undisclosed surcharge for basic sightseeing stops, and it fundamentally changes the value of the excursion. The $750 base price did not provide the kind of private, customizable tour the listing suggests -- it mostly covered the vehicle and driver while requiring additional payments for most destinations. When we raised concerns, the response from the operator was essentially "too bad." We cancelled the trip and booked with a tour operator that didn't charge bogus fees. I would not recommend this operator to anyone.

That aside, and despite my utter disappointment, Alaska Galor Tours, or whatever of the three companies officially did this, knocked it out of the park, from the naturalists Coral and Nick, to Captain Anise or something, it was all ship shape and wonderful. We learned a number of facts and other information about sharks, whales, and local wildlife. On the trip we saw a pod of Orca's playing and frolicking for us then found pack of four humpback whales feeding in same area, not bubble feeding. Nick was able to identify three of the whales, one of them was a female whale that had 6 babies in last 7 years. Hats of to the crew and shore staff that coordinates all this. While I am very disappointed didn't get to the lighthouse am grateful they rescheduled us and refunded the price difference. When come back to Alaska will likely book another route with this group. Do recommend.

We had a crew of 4 and were taken out by Captain John and deckhand Dylan for a half day salmon…read moretrip. Captain John was there to greet us at the dock and was very friendly and welcoming. We went out on the Hi Time boat a 30' which had plenty of room for fishing and warmth inside. We made it out to the fishing area within 15 minutes and had 4 rods in the water right away. The fishing was a little slow as we saw other boats not bringing in fish either and whales had entered the fishing area. While it was amazing to see whales, they do not help fishing. About halfway through the day my son hooked into a nice fish that was a great fight! He ended up landing a 30" King salmon, the biggest fish of his life! I caught a smaller chum salmon but was still fun to catch! My mother and father in law didn't get a chance to fish as we had no other bites. Dylan was working hard and being helpful to make the trip enjoyable and fun for everyone. He's a good kid and his family should be proud. He even let my son try fresh salmon eggs and salmon heart which he loved! Overall it was a great fishing trip and an experience that my son will never forget! If we're ever back in the area, I'll definitely book another trip! Thank you Captain John and Dylan!

We booked an 8 hour salmon and halibut fishing excursion and…read moreasked if they could find 1 or 2 more people to go out with us on the date of our tour so that the price would go down a bit since originally we only had 3 people. Captain Mike found us one other person to go which dropped our prices by around $20/PERSON. They were a little late starting the day because they had to pick up the other passenger from his cruise ship. Captain Mike said not to worry because they would keep us out longer to compensate for the lost time, which he did. Once we arrived at the first fishing spot, Captain David gave us a brief but thorough tutorial on how to reel in the big fish without hurting ourselves (backs) and tiring yourself out since we would be reeling from depths of 250-300 feet. This info was more valuable than I can tell you!! We went to 6 or 7 halibut fishing spots in the AM, then fished for salmon in the afternoon. We had a good catch overall for the day. Captain David event called out to his whale watching friends to find out if there were any whales to see that day. He took us over to where we might find them, but they were not around. He then took us to see some local sea lions up close and bald eagles in their natural habitat along the water. I appreciate the extra effort! When we got back to the dock, Jack gave us a masterclass on cleaning and filleting the halibut, rock fish, and cod we wanted to take with us to eat for dinner. He then gutted and beheaded the rest of the fish so they would be lighter for processing by the pound. Big Jim's suggested a fairly priced processing plant that froze our freshly caught fish and shipped it directly to our homes. --We had a great experience with Big Jim's Charters and will definitely book them when we return to Juneau and tell all of our friends to do the same!
