Sorry, just did it and have to say it was a bit disappointing. The view is great the Restaraunt is nothing but a snack shack. The service was almost not there.... Had to wait almost 5 min for someone one to come to the bar then we had to clear our own table to sit down. Walk up to order an and find a seat. Nothing like the photos/advertising. If you're a big hiker this might be the place for sure.
Famous Tram located in downtown Juneau. The tram is very close to the cruise docks and an easy walk. Tickets are pretty pricey, but we booked through a cruise ship excursion where this was the last stop. We waited about 30 minutes on a busy Sunday evening to get on the tram. It was about a five minute ride up. Once you are up, there is a very large gift shop, restaurant/bar, and observation deck. There are also totem poles in the forest. It was equally about a 30 minute wait to get down. Just be mindful of your cruise ship departure if you are on a cruise. The views are absolutely gorgeous and the history of the tram is pretty cool.
I've been on many trams in various countries and this tram is a nice tram ride. Unfortunately the day we went there was over an hour wait line. The ride itself was fine, it was one of the more smooth trams I've been on, but it was also the shortest in length. The only issue I really had was that they packed so many people in the tram, it was hard to even lift your arms with your phone to take any pictures. It was just too crowded, even for that short ride. The staff were all friendly. The shop at the top was small but had nice and unique items. I think the price of the tram is kind of expensive, I personally would not do it again.
This attraction isn't worth the hype. Max and I paid for the ride through the cruise ship. You are packed in like sardines. The height from the top of the line isn't worth what you get to see. You stay at the top for about a minute and descend back to earth.
My wife and I had some credit for our cruise so we used some of it to pay for the tram. It was a cool experience. It is very close to where our cruise ship was docked. You get your ticket and go and wait in line to go up on the tram. The views are gorgeous! A must if you're in Juneau!

Absolutely beautiful views but the cost does not match the value, in my opinion. While on a cruisestop in Juneau (Sept 2024), I had a chunk of time available after a previous excursion and decided to try the Goldbelt Tram solo. Firstly, the entrance area and all the way up to the mountain are a seamless process. Staff are very knowledgeable and able to assist you from general information to safety. I also enjoyed reading the posters along the walls on the ground level, which detailed how the tram came about, very interesting! It costs about $55 and the ride is only a few minutes, but you get such awesome views of Juneau. Upon arriving up at the top, you'll find that activities are somewhat limited. There are some lookout areas that offer beautiful and scenic backdrops for photos or a relaxing view. There's also a restaurant, souvenir shop, and a theatre. Given all the food and souvenir shops along the main road, it felt a bit redundant but I guess its to promote an experience. I did however, decide to sit in the theatre to catch a quick movie called, "Seeing Daylight". It's about 20 minutes and discussed a specific group of natives in Alaska. Very interesting but outdated, it seemed like something from the mid-90s. With all of the technology available and research into native populations, I think it's well overdue that they offer something more recent. After the movie, my visit was pretty much complete. Returning to the main street was an easy process however, I did feel concerned with how tight we were packed into the tram. Nonetheless, the views coming down were even better than going up. Staff were just as kind and maintained professionalism throughout the ride. Overall, it's a nice ride but I just don't think the price matched the value for me. I would've liked maybe a quick tour or some sort of guidance on its significance aside from the aforementioned posters on the wall. Maybe even a paint and sip activity would've been nice. If you are someone who truly enjoys scenic view experiences, then I think you might enjoy it as you can pretty much get the views, food, souvenirs, and some historical context in one. I personally would not return but it was nice to say I did it.
Beautiful views and good experience. However, the price was pretty pricy at $60/adult. On the way up, they played an recorded message. We couldn't hear a darn thing because there was a guided tour also on board the the staff member was giving his own speech. I thought that was very poorly planned and annoying too. As for the way down, there is a huge traffic jam and you probably have to wait over an hour to get back down. So plan accordingly. Specially if you need to board your cruise ship by a specific time.
I love a good tram ride! This is a cute tram ride in Juneau. Not super long and the mountain isn't super tall but it is a nice quick ride. A lot less nerve wracking than Switzerland or Italy. It also doesn't swing like the one in Palm Springs. The queuing line goes by fairly quickly. The cost isn't bad. We ended up purchasing through NCL and it was easy. No need to wait in line to redeem which saved a little time. The ride up was smooth and once we got up to the top and there was a nice little restaurant, souvenir shop, and then you could go outside and see carving done in front of you, there are hiking trails and plenty of area to explore. It is very pretty. The line to go down didn't take long at all, maybe 15 minutes or so. It was nice and cool the day we were there so it wasn't a bad wait at all. I liked that the starting point is right in the drop off area and easy to get to. Close to everything. I would go ahead for sure.
The stars were clearly aligned today for a visit to the tram, as it was a beautiful day in Juneau. I bought a ticket and had a very short wait for a tram both directions. The trail at the top was lovely, with some beautiful totem poles along the way up to spectacular views. After the walk, I watched the informative film on Tlingit history and culture, which is worth the 25 minutes viewing time. The gift shop was the usual tourist stuff and pretty uninspiring, which was a missed opportunity to share more native products beyond a few pieces of art they had. I had to take a star off because of the price point--$55 is very expensive. Maybe they set that price to keep their visitors at a reasonable level, maybe that's what the market can bear, but that is crazy high. I understand that you can go up multiple times in the day but that's cold comfort when you purchase the ticket in the later afternoon or have other plans. I'd tweak the policy to be multiple times in the 24 hours after purchase price.
Depending on what time of the year you go, there could be a very long line to wait in to get up and down. Once at the top, aside from eating at the restaurant on your own dime, there isn't much to do. For the $70 price point of the ticket, I would say this is not really worth it in my opinion.
Let me save you some cash and tell you straight out that the tram is not worth the money. Sure it's a cool experience to ride it but I felt ripped off after I paid $55 to go up and back. The views are nice but it felt like a short ride and there's not much at the top to do aside from shopping at the gift store for your typical Alaska touristy stuff and eating at the restaurant. All the staff were very nice but for me I could have spent the same amount of money on a lot of other things or experiences I would have found more value in.
Getting to the top of the mountain will provide breathtaking views of Juneau and the surrounding snow-covered mountain tops. There's a restaurant and gift shop when you reach the peak as well as a small coffee shop and paths to do a little hiking. Just watch out for the bears!
If you have limited time in Juneau, the Tram up Mouth Roberts is eye opening. The tram ride is slow enough to enjoy. No ear popping, it can be a little crowded, but the cool thing is your ticket is good all day and you can run up and down until the end of the day. Military discount is small, but if you have a good size group, it's worth it. There are a couple of amenities at the top. A a small cafe, a gift shop, a little auditorium that plays a movie about the history of the tram. We got up to the top. We went hiking on the small trail, but if you have it in your...you can hike up to Browns Cross and get an even better view of Juneau and the surrounding areas. And one ticket will allow you to do it early and then again later? Wow. The staff are friendly and keep things in order. They get you up pretty quickly. We had a good time, and I can see why it's a must do on Juneau lists. Recommend. read more
I'm guessing our experience was better than others. The cost was much less because we booked it through NCL. There's a $50 credit per tour that applies to the first guest through the "More at Sea" package. You'll also get Latitude Reward discounts depending on your tier. It somehow ended up costing less than $20 for both of us. It's also an all day pass, so you can go up & down as many times as you want. We were one of the first in line that morning. There were only 8 people in front of us. We watched as they were taking the staff up to the shop & resraurants. Before long, it was our turn. The tram was pretty packed with lots of standing room and very few seats. I chose to be on the outer edge with a great view. The climb is steep, and you do go straight up like an elevator for that last push to the top. To be honest, I've been on much higher gondolas (to the top of the Zugspitze near Garmisch). The Goldbelt Tram was an easy ride compared to that. I did like the commentary along the way. It was nice to hear fun facts & history as you're taking in the view of the channel and forest below. There is a gift shop, restaurant, bar, and theater as you get to the top. We opted to take on the Alpine Loop Trail early. We also made sure to stop at the Chilkat Theater to view the "Seeing Daylight" documentary. Don't miss that viewing. It's part of the whole experience. It really puts everything into perspective about the land and its people (Tlinget) who have lived here for centuries. You'll see an ongoing theme as you explore other Alaskan towns. It really ties it all together. We didn't get to try the restaurants. We thought it best to explore Downtown Juneau and the waterfront instead. It was a good decision. It was all very memorable! Right in the heart of downtown Juneau, the Goldbelt Tram (aka the Mount Roberts Tramway) was hands-down one of the coolest parts of our Alaska cruise stop. Lucky for us, there was zero wait and the weather couldn't have been better--calm skies and no wind. The tram takes off right next to the cruise dock and zips up Mount Roberts, climbing 1,800 feet in just a few minutes. It's super steep, actually one of the steepest tram rides out there. Once we got to the top, the views were unreal--Juneau, Gastineau Channel, Douglas Island, and a whole bunch of mountain ranges all laid out in front of us. Up at the summit, there's a cozy little mountain house with a gift shop, a restaurant, a coffee bar, and even a small theater showing a short film about Tlingit culture and history. We also got to see a local artist carving a totem pole and checked out some amazing Native art galleries. A lot of people use the tram to hit the hiking trails on Mount Roberts. There's a beautiful 2.5-mile trail that winds back down into town if you're up for it. Tickets run $60 for adults, $45 for kids, and little ones under 2 ride free. It's open from May to October. If we ever do another Alaska cruise, we're 100% hopping on this tram again. It's one of those spots you just don't skip. read more

Gorgeous views from the tram. What a perfect trip up the mountain and there's also some excellent easy and moderately to difficult trails. We purchased a ticket from our ship and it allowed unlimited rides up and down the mountain. We rode it once in the morning and again in the afternoon. The light changes the colors of the view. Great view of Juneau! I was surprised it was as expensive as it was just to ride up and down, but it is for unlimited trips, we just only had time for 1. it was fun to walk around the top, I wish there was more up there but fun trip! read more
Gold belt Tram is every bit worth the price of admission. The sights are amazing. The hike provides many opportunities for photos. And the views are spectacular. The tram travels every 5 to 10 minutes. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. And if you are interested in a quick drink or bite, the restaurant has plenty to choose from. You will not regret this awesome visit. When in Juneau, Alaska, this place is a must. read more
We had purchased our tickets from our cruise line (Royal Caribbean) and wish we hadn't as they completely over charged us. The tramway is within a short walk from the cruise terminal area. Although there were 6 ships, it wasn't very busy and we could have purchased the tickets ourselves. So if you're planning on scheduling this as an excursion from a ship, save your money and purchase it when you arrive. The wait time was literally 30 seconds! Once it fills up, the doors close and you're on your way! The ride up is little over 3 minutes. As one tram goes up, another is on it's way down. The view from above is magnificent! Plenty of areas to hike, take photos, relax and take in the views. There's a restaurant, coffee shop, gift shop and a theater (temporarily closed during our visit). Even though it was raining on and off, we still had a great time! If you're on a cruise or visiting the area, this is a must! You won't regret it. Returning wait time was about 5 minutes as there were a lot of people ahead of us. read more
This Mount Roberts Tramway is actually the GoldBelt Tram...but regardless of the proper name, this tram/skyway leads to some of the best overlook viewpoints of downtown Juneau, Alaska. And...it's not just the scene when you first exit the tram, it's all about venturing on Mount Roberts Trail! Yes, I need to repeat this one more time, lol...MOUNT ROBERTS TRAIL, from the station house at the "top of it all", was absolutely spectacular! And, you can trek along Mount Roberts Trail for a very long time. Or...if at any point you decide you've had enough or fulfilled with the wondrous sightseeing moments...you can always turn around and head back down the tram. With this info off my chest, lol, the actual "Mount Roberts Tram" but really the GoldBelt Tram was just fine. I will talk a little about it, but the majority of what I'd like to enforce, or relay with this review, is that hiking on Mount Roberts Trail is an ABSOLUTE MUST DO while here in Juneau! You will truly capture the essence of the surroundings of Juneau nestled within Alaska's Inside Passage. First off, is the price of the tram fare for August 24, 2022. It was $45 roundtrip. Yeah, that's a bit steep, but you just have to think in the big picture that when you're vacationing and enjoying yourself, you must let prices go. In the end, it's all about the memories and stories you can make while traveling. And that's what you'll get by taking this tram and then hiking Mount Roberts Trail. Btw...the ride to and from the top was one of the smoothest rides I have taken in terms of gondolas. No swinging, very sturdy and fast. It was up and down the mountain in 5 -7 minutes. At the top in the station house, there's a gift shop, restrooms, a restaurant and theater. I stopped at the gift shop to buy a magnet. But now it's time to get hiking! I was advised from people I spoke with to hike on Mount Roberts Trail and trek all the way to GOLD RIDGE and GASTINEAU PEAK to immerse myself in some of the most picturesque landscapes. And, I really can't say much more than YOU HAVE TO HIKE ALL THE WAY TO THESE 2 SPOTS. I couldn't believe my eyes! So humbled to have made the journey to Gold Ridge and Gastineau Peak. With that in mind, let me relay the distances to all the popular points, climbing up Mount Roberts and eventually leading to, lol, again, Gold Ridge and Gastineau Peak. - Alpine Loop Trail - 1/2 mile, 30 minutes. Basic. - Father Brown's Cross - 1 mile roundtrip, 45 min - 1 hour. This was a nice vantage point and photo opp. - Gold Ridge! - 3 miles roundtrip, 2 - 3 hours, gaining 1500 feet in elevation! Right beside Gold Ridge is... - Gastineau Peak! - 4 miles roundtrip, 4 - 4.5 hours and 1900 feet in elevation. And, if you're interested in advancing further... - Mount Roberts Peak - 6 miles roundtrip, 6 -8 hours and over 2000 feet in elevation gain. I did not attempt to go all the way to Mount Roberts Peak as I was told the footing along the way was a little unsteady. Plus, I was more than satisfied with the surroundings at Gastineau Peak, and...I got a late start in the day and didn't want the sun to fade while hiking to the extremes. A couple things I'd like to mention... - The hike up to Gold Ridge and Gastineau Peak wasn't difficult, imo, and that's because I was constantly stopping for pictures and lost track of the fact I was on a trail. So, yeah, the higher you go, the better the sights will be looking down upon Juneau and the seaside waterway. - While advancing further and further, there were barely any signs or posts about how far along you were. Many people were using the App on their phones called, "All Trails", to help guide them. But basically, the pathway is well defined all the way to Gastineau Peak so as long as you don't veer off too far, you'll be fine. - Although they say it rains 260 out of the 360 days of the year in Juneau, I can't believe how fortunate I was stopping here on a rare, beautifully, sunny day. Yep, the views were magical! - When you exit the tram at the Station House, the trailhead for Mount Roberts Hike can be very tricky to find because there are no signs. It's located behind one of the houses off to the right hand side. I had to ask for assistance, lol. - The tram can get very BUSY once a cruise ship pulls into port and starts letting passengers exit. Mendenhall Glacier is probably the most popular destination in Juneau, but this GoldBelt Tram is not far behind. I'd just advise to try and beat the cruise rush so you're not waiting in line long to ride the tram. - Also, I think it's very important to come here early in the day because you'll have the sun positioned at your back which will greatly enhance your photo taking moments. Eventually as the day goes along, the sun moves across the sky and by mid - late afternoon, you're looking straight into the sun. Finally, I'll just leave with this... Mount Roberts/GoldBelt Tram and Hike was my most memorable highlight from visiting Juneau, Alaska. read more

The Goldbelt Tram is conveniently located right next to the cruise ship port. The tram ascends 1,800 feet, giving you beautiful panoramic views of the Gastineau Channel and downtown Juneau. What truly made the ride worth it was that it gave us access to the Gastineau Peak hike, a challenging uphill hike with even more amazing views. We saw marmots and mountain goats! Word of warning: There's a long line to go up, and there's an even longer line to go back down. Make sure you leave enough time to get back down. read more

So, this was an interesting experience. We were recently on a cruise and we had some more time at port and decided to take the tram up the mountain. It was pricey, but since this would probably be our only time in Alaska we thought let's go for it! So, we took it up and they gave us the last trip up time and last trip down time (noted because we planned to do a hike once we reached the top). It was a smooth ride up and we explore the main area which had a restaurant and gift area. Then, we decided let's go on a quick hike-- it was beautiful. The sun was starting to set though and we didn't see any other humans, so we thought let's head back. We make it back to the main area and notice it felt pretty abandoned. I peek my head in the theater area and the lights are off. One of the workers sees me and with surprise in his voice he asks 'what are you doing here?!' I respond, we are trying to watch the movie that plays at 8:30 (I believe was the last showing posted on the wall). He then indicates, 'well we are closed-- everything is closed.' My kids and I look around and they were literally taking out the trash. He then says, sometimes we close at 8:00, sometimes later. We were shocked!! If the front desk that is selling tickets tells customers a closing time and last team down time, that should be the closing time-- we could've been stuck up there stranded if we didn't walk back from our hike when we did. Notice to staff: you should have a clicker and count how many people go up, then how many people go down as a talley. Saying someone yells out into the woods before they close up isn't sufficient at all for public safety-- I am a woman with two young kids and couldn't been in real danger due to misinformation provided. That made a real impression on us, and I recently informed another family about this experience so they lead with caution if they decide to explore the Tram area. Also, for the price we paid and to get a full hour shaved off was not okay. read more

After a fun day at Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget Fall, we ended the day by riding the tram. Located close to the cruise port, this was a quick last minute stop. For $55/person, they pack you in like sardines to ride the tram up to a gift shop and restaurant. We already ate so I quickly explored the gift shop and stood in long line for 15 mins to ride a packed tram back down. Wish I had skipped this! read more

After arriving in Juneau on a cruise ship, we had planned to take in the city, look through the shops and then ride the tram. The weather was perfect, blue skies and almost 70. There was really no wait for us to get tickets and we hopped right on. The ride was smooth and pretty quick to the top while listening to a recorded narration of sights. At the top, there's a lodge with a restaurant, a terrace with a view of the city below, and a gift shop. There are trail maps for sale for $1 at a few locations. We decided to walk the 1/2 mile loop, but didn't grab a trail map. We continued to hike quite a ways, and made it to some incredible views, including a view of the cross with the city and water below. We spotted some mountain goats along the ridge near the top with some snow capped mts. The only drawback were the biting flies - ouch. Just be prepared. If the weather is nice, this is the place to go! And spend some time hiking around and enjoying the scenery. I would have loved to spend more time on the trails, but I was not prepared well for a long hike. Next time!! read more

My family and I were visiting Juneau a few weeks ago while on a cruise and when we saw the trambelt we knew we had to ride and see the beautiful views from on top of the mountain. We were able to board quickly and easily. The ride was smooth, gave us a gorgeous panoramic view of the town, and was relaxing. The tickets were pricey at around $40-$50, but it was a once in a lifetime ride and we're glad that we took it. When we arrived at the top there was a large gift shop where we got a few souvenirs for ourselves and our family. My son fell in love with a snow globe with a bear inside so, of course, we had to get it for him. My husband found a knife engraved with his dad's name on it and some fresh, manly smelling beard balm on clearance. On the wait to go back down the mountain we got to watch a video of native Alaskan tribal dances and hear the significance of the dances. We enjoyed getting to see that and learn a little more about their culture. Rating from F to A+++, I give it an A++. read more

If you visit Juneau you gotta ride the tram. The view as you ascend and descend is amazing. I would highly recommend this attraction. read more

The Mount Roberts Tramway may be one of the most convenient activities in your stop at Juneau. The base of the tram is right next to most of the ships and the transit center for tour buses. There is no parking in the area so enjoy the short walk. The tram takes you up the side of Mount Roberts with a steep climb. The view can range from none to spectacular depending on the cloud cover at the base and top. My ride was pretty clear although it was an overcast day. The wait can be a little long at the base, but the ride back is a much shorter wait. The ride is fun with a rather large gondola. There are no seats, but there are plenty of places to hold on. The windows allow a lot of views which are spectacular. At the top, there is a large gift shop and restaurant and a nice nature hike. The views are great! The cost of the ride is as steep as the climb, but the Mount Roberts Tramway is a nice and quick option while in the Juneau port. Watch the lines and time it well. If it's a good day, it's a good option! read more

I am absolutely terrified of heights! But I do love the tram living downtown. I watch it go up and down the mountain all the time during the summer the restaurant on top of the mountain although isn't my favorite place to eat it does still have a decent variety of food. The bars is quite nice and service is always lovely! If you have the opportunity to ride the tram, I definitely recommend it if you're visiting Juno, the price can be pretty expensive, but I think it's totally worth it on a nice and sunny day! read more

Yes, this is a five star must do in Juneau Alaska. The ride is smooth and fairly quick and the view from the top is spectacular. In addition to the landscape we also got to enjoy a Bald Eagle hanging on the tree top which was eye level to us from the top of the ridge. read more
