I love coming to GLAMbeauty Bar, primarly the downtown location. Becca is my go to gal for my eyebrows, she does an amazing job and my eyebrows turn out perfect every time. I like adding the brow tinting from time to time with my brow wax. It makes a huge difference. Now that they offer Microblading to their menu of services, I will be highly considering that. I have also had a facial at the East Vancouver location by Marissa not too long ago and she was very knowledgeable with skincare. I definitely plan to see her again for future facials. I decided last minute to get a spray tan before my wedding in August to even out some tan lines and GLAMbeauty bar fortunately had availability that week. I NEVER get spray tans so don't have much to compare it to. I really like their scheduling system online and originally scheduled my appointment for Monday before my wedding on Saturday. Like I said, I never get spray tans so didn't really know how long it would last, but thankfully the staff here read my appointment details and called me recommending that I move my appointment to Wednesday, closer to the wedding. I really appreciated that because it definitely would've faded too much if I did it Monday. Everyone was very welcoming and made me feel comfortable the whole time. Also seems like a good price to me, though I didn't shop around much. My only complaint is that they didn't seem to really try and understand the color I was going for and didn't show me any examples or anything. I basically said I just want to even out tan lines and get a tad darker and they just went for it. It was definitely a lot darker of a tan than I wanted and I was pretty self conscious about it during our rehearsal events on Friday. This is my 2nd time at Glambeauty Bar. The first time was a pleasant experience like everyone on here as mentioned. Overall the location, decor, room and employees are friendly and approachable. The first girl I had was sweet, great conversationalist and very thorough (30-40 ish mins). I came in for a brow and lip wax. I was pleased by my experience and thought I'd be interested in coming again. I appreciated a reminder email when I was due for one but decided to wait another week. Sadly, my 2nd experience wasn't as pleasant or consistent in terms of service. In all fairness, I called around noonish on a Saturday for a last minute lip and brow wax and they were able to squeeze me in for a 4:30p appointment when they closed at 5. I didn't expect the best customer service because of the time frame. I've been waxed before at other places (from nail salons to specialty wax places) and have worked in retail so I get it. I came in about 10 mins early and felt that it was a bit rushed but the girl I had was sweet, ready and seemed excited. The time it took from check in to wax was about in total 15 mins and I assumed she was a seasoned waxer because that's pretty quick. But she had asked if I experienced redness before and I said something along the lines of not really but I must've been dehydrated. She put some cream to help with redness. I didn't get to see the final look with the mirror like the last time but, again, I just didn't expect much and was pleased with her conversations. Turns out when I got home to look, she had burned my right eye lid and a small portion on the side of my right lip. After the swelling came down I noticed how red the areas were and the burning/itchy sensation was still there. I honestly wouldn't have cared if I went to some random cheap wax place but being that they have such rave reviews I am pretty disappointed. I have been recommended by 5 other people and the reviews on here speak for themselves. I normally wax my own brows and lip where I have burned myself but that's for me to blame. I have been wanting to treat myself and get it professionally done. This recent experience has me hesitant on anyone waxing my face again. Photo was taken the next day. Let me start by saying that the people working here were very friendly and this review in no way reflects bad customer service. It's was also a nice atmosphere to get services. I came here with my sister, mom, and mother of the groom for wedding party hair and makeup. My sister's (bride) makeup looked good. Her hair was uneven so I had to fix it when we got back to the venue. My makeup was not so good. I told the girl that I usually have dramatic eyebrows, liquid winged liner, a cut crease, contour, but don't do shimmery highlight since I'm naturally oily. I feel like that fell on deaf ears and that my makeup was incredibly disappointing. The products they used seemed really cheap. My foundation separated from my face as did my mom's. I had to run home and redo all of my face makeup and redraw my eyebrows since the shape wasn't what I had showed them (a picture of myself with make-up on). I've included a picture of my winged eyeliner from this establishment (top) and a picture of what it's looked like from a different professional makeup artist (bottom). As for hair, I asked for two Dutch braids since I have short hair. I could have done them myself but thought I'd save myself the hassle. It didn't stay very well and wasn't as thick as I've done them. My sister fixed my hair once we got home. Honestly, just a waste of money for how many repairs we had to do after. My sister felt really bad for having us waste our time, I felt bad that she paid for us to come home and re-do our hair and makeup. If you don't normally wear makeup, this might be a good place for you. I feel like they specialize in one basic look. If you are pretty fluent and skilled in makeup and hair, I'd go elsewhere. - I'm pretty unimpressed with the response from the owner on this review. The implication that the picture was taken before the artist was done is false. I took that picture once I got home and pulled off the lashes. There was no way you could see the wing with the lashes on. As for the one look comment, I'm merely expressing an opinion of what I saw with our wedding party, the other wedding party that was there, and at least two other clients I observed that day. Take it for what you will. Honestly, the picture comparison speaks for itself. The lack of skills is evident. Madelynn is so sweet and makes my lashes look and feel amazing! I've dealt with some fall out but she's been super helpful at giving me information and tips to make my lashes last. The first time I got my lashes done (Not with Madelynn) I felt pretty uncomfortable because it was silent and took forever, but she makes the time go by so fast while still doing such a quality job. I've had about 4 classic lash sessions with her and am upgrading to Hybrid! I love coming here to get my brows done. I always start out with a complimentary mimosa, but they also offer tea and water. Becca does my brow wax, and she does such an amazing, detailed job on my brows. She keeps them looking natural, thicker, and defined. The space is so girly and cutely decorated. Alyx is truly amazing! I have gone to one other salon before to get my lashes done, and they were burning for 3 days after I got them done. Alyx was amazing, and very gentle, and spent about 2.5 hrs on my lashes to make them beautiful. It was painless, and the time went by so quick. I used glam beauty bar for my wedding hair and make up this summer. I went in for my first trial and my hair wasn't anything close to what I asked. She then tried redoing it and it wasn't any better. I came home that night and e-mailed Alex, who I was back and fourth with the whole process, to let her know my disappointment. She rescheduled me with someone new a week before the wedding for another hair trial. I went in again and nothing like the pictures I showed. I emailed Alex again and voiced my concerns and asked how we can make sure my hair looks the way I want on my wedding day. She ensured she would make sure my hair would look the way I wanted it to and would talk to the hair stylist. The day of the wedding glam helped with my hair and make up, my flower girls hair and 3 bridesmaids hair and make up. All of our make up looked incredible but all of our hair was so disappointing. My hair still looked nothing like the pictures. All my curls fell out before the wedding even started and it was just super disappointing for the amount of money we spent. We were also over an hour late on getting out of the salon. I wouldn't recommend hair at glam for your wedding. read more

As an owner and producer of a fashion week event, owner of a magazine and blogger for over 10 years - I can say I have worked with hundreds of makeup artists/estheticians. Many have worked on my face for a special appearance or photoshoot, but never did they get IT. I never felt BAM - like your favorite beauty guru on Instagram (you know?). Then, yesterday I had Meghan do my makeup for a photoshoot for Skorch Magazine. The night before, I honestly gave her the worst direction ever - I said, "make me look beautiful, like gorgeous." I told her my fav beauty guru's - but honestly, was praying she would translate that and read my mind to figure out my "style". I didn't even give her an idea of my outfits as at the time, I had no idea what I was even going to WEAR! Well, next day came - and OOOOMMMMGGGGGGG. First, she showed up with serious gear, organized, professional, upbeat, amazing. Love it. She gave me a quick spray tan, which was awesome and fast! Then, she started makeup and did my face in about 30 minutes - which normally I'm used to an artist taking as long as the ICE AGEEEEE. So, to me - she was fast and awesome! I wear contacts, so was scared about that - but never did she seem phased. No eye pokes, nothing and the makeup felt great, didn't bug my eyes or contacts at all. She finished, and I looked at my face and what was staring back at me you guys. wow. Honestly, THE FACE I always wanted done - the makeup I always dreamed up. I didn't want to wash it off last night it was so beautiful!!!!! She then came on set at the photoshoot and kept the look fresh, switched out lips and you could tell this girl knew her stuff. Sad experience... I book for my wedding with Alex James through the Glam web site. I booked Myself ( The Bride ) 2 bridesmaids, and the flower girl. Totaling over $500. I asked all my bridesmaids to pay for there hair and makeup, and Glam beauty bar made that very difficult to do. First they wanted me ( The Bride ) to try and collect all the money from my bridesmaids. Brides don't have time to collect money. It took several days of phone calls, emails, and traveling to their salon, to get this straightened out with the company. Because there was no communication between the salon and Alex. Which created way to much stress and work for the whole wedding party to Pay. It just made no sense. So I go for my trial. ( I'm 48 years of age ) My makeup looks good until you get outside. It is way to heavy under the eyes. Now its the wedding day. My Maid of honor go's first and her stylist uses more of a natural power makeup on her and it looks great. So I asked my stylist to use that on me. She did not. I also asked her to go a little darker and she put concealer under one of my eyes twice. Ok once again I'm 48 not 20, so the more concealer you put under my eyes the older I look. So I asked her to please wipe it off . I guess I thought she would know that because she is the professional I am paying $250 to. Now we are finished with hair and makeup. The stylist has told me that I can buy the lipstick. So we go to the counter and she dose not have the lipstick in stock. And dose not offer the one she has. This is at 11:00 am on my wedding day. And says I owe another $125 but can't get a hold of anyone at either salon that knows anything and can't give me a receipt. I still have never received a receipt from them. I went in for my appointment today for an eyebrow wax with McKenzie, after she was "done" waxing my eyebrows she didn't even give me a mirror so I got up to look at my brows on a mirror they had hanging in the room. That's when I saw she left me a big bald spot on my eyebrow! And she had the dignity to lie to my face and said she didn't do it! I'm not stupid i didn't walk in with a huge bald spot on my eyebrow! Up until Friday I wore makeup once in a blue moon but had NO idea what I was doing. A little blush, some mascara - whatever. I decided that it was time to step up my game. I'm approaching 40 and was tired of looking like it. I booked a makeup application lesson with Meghan. I arrived and brought all my makeup with me. I was offered champagne, coffee, water etc while I waited. I dumped out my makeup bag and Meghan went through determining what was good (and bad), what was good for my face/skin and whatnot. She asked me what I was looking for and I was honest. I wanted something that looked very natural and wouldn't take 20 minutes in the morning. She went about applying makeup and explaining all the steps in detail. Meghan used mostly my makeup supplementing here and there with different colors/items. In the end I had a flawless face and a short shopping list of things that would help me look my best. The best part? I've applied my own makeup every day since (3 days so far) and it's been quick and easy. Almost every person I have seen comments on how great I look or how great my skin looks. I love GlamBB. I come here for my brows and blowouts. I have always had a positive experience here. Parking downtown is a tiny bit annoying depending on the time of day but mostly fine. They will offer you a drink when you enter and one of the options is a mimosa---- so extra stars for any service establishment that offers me a drink! :) This is also a fun place to come with some friends for some pampering before a night out. They use Kevin Murphy products which I really like too. Usually, you need to plan ahead for scheduling but there have been times when I snagged a last minute appointment. I wish they were open on Sundays but I get it. Anyway, the nice thing is that you can schedule an appointment when they are not open online-which is super convenient. read more
