This is an excellent place for the very young kids to run around, probably under 7 is ideal. There…read morewere two hay mazes, best for under 4' crowd, a hay pyramid, cute baby animals, two tether balls (my teen/tween boys were excited by this), live music, educational panels, and friendly staff. There are lots of pumpkins (mostly off the vine when we went late in the season), including the cool "warty" knucklehead variety. Prices depend on girth, not weight, and range from $13-$22 for most of the average sizes. You can bring your own lunch or purchase from vendors. Either way, there are plenty of clean covered picnic tables, It started misting with blustery winds, and we stayed dry. The canopies seemed securely anchored. The drive is beautiful, with the hills and redwoods and happy cows. Parking was okay, but I advise to get there early. The cheese shop abuts the patch and is a must.

Parking: plenty but busy days require patience for families loading back into car and leaving. Activities: petting zoo with a horse for children to ride, ducks, chickens, pigs, goats and more, hayride, face painting, bounce houses, maze, live music from littles and a band for adults. Payment: Best to bring cash but vendors have card readers too, reception can be spotty. Pumpkins: Nice variety, priced by size. I heard a few families complaining about pricing but a few extra bucks is well worth supporting a local farm that supports the neighboring natural environment and creates a wonderful fall experience for families this time of year. Vibe: Extremely family friendly, vendors were sweet to the children. Many children running around, smiles seen, laughter heard. Food: Coffee, Bbq, shaved ice, ice cream and drinks.

When we got there we learnt apple picking was not happening anymore but they have a huge property with alot of vegetables, a walking and tasting tour and a horse!!! First we met Ben, the magical horse who made our day! We got to brush his hair , feed him and just hang out with him. What a unique experience! Note- They host birthday parties there so the horse can play with the kids. Next we met the main farmer who took us on a walking tour of everything they grow. We tried the most unique flowers, herbs, leaves, etc. most memorable were the chocolate mint, fennel, quinine, edible flowers that taste like cucumber. We tasted alot more including their honey which was great! The farmer was funny, engaging and so knowledgeable too! They sell plants and dried herbs and honey along with veggies and other things. We bought a few things and some plants and had a great chat with the kind farm owner. She is just amazing and knew everything about everything on the farm! Highly recommend! Note- They have parking on site and carry cash to buy things!

They told us a bunch of vegetables was $6 - that's is 2x what I pay at my expensive farmer's market. I picked a very healthy bunch of chard- $6 and then i had 2 beets also $6- what I object to is she says the price (not of everything) but doesn't define what constitutes a bunch. We ended up spending close to $100 for some starts and very little produce. The owner actually seemed embarrassed by the high prices when we commented at check out but still went ahead with outrageous pricing. Glad to support it the 1x but probably won't be returning as it is too precious for me.

Blackberries. Make sure you wear long pants/sleeves. The thorns can be brutal! Also a bit of poison oak up the hillside so be careful.

After trying other CSAs in the area I came across Riverdog Farm from a newsletter sent out by my…read morefavorite pork butcher, Fatted Calf. $20 a week for organic produce, why not give it a shot. So I paid for a month in advance (you pay by check either by the month or the quarter) and waited for my first pick up. Fortunately there are a few options for picking up your box in Napa (check their website to see if there's one nearby you) including one only a mile away from our home. Yeah! The pickup location, at least in my area, is in someone's carport which is fairly typical of CSAs, thank goodness for volunteers. Just verify your pick up by signing the clipboard by your name, grab your box or unload it into your own bags (if you take the box return it in your next visit) then prepare to be wowed by the amazing produce. Each week is a little but different and changes along with the season. What's always in the box is the most beautiful organic produce I've ever seen. This weeks box had a bunch of gorgeous rainbow chard which was sautéed along with Fatted Calf sweet sausage served on top of Model bread with poached eggs. Best chard ever! I've posted a few pics of the last few boxes, judge for yourself, Riverdog Farm is amazing. It doesn't get any better than this. PS... They also raise organic fed hogs and chickens. Picked up my first pork share (delivered along with my regular box pick up) and the cuts look so tasty. Can not wait to braise the fresh hocks. Check their website for a complete list of pork share offerings.

I was pretty confident that I'd written about Riverdog in the past and was somewhat shocked to see that I praised only their eggs in my short initial review. Yes, the eggs are great, and everyone knows it. But I can make a long, long list of Riverdog products that consider to be top notch: green garlic, raw chickens, pork chops, carrots, daikons, asparagus tips, onions, black radishes, little gems when they're available, .... At the moment, their early girl and heirloom tomatoes are truly excellent. In recent weeks, I've gotten their squash and green beans -- excellent again, of course. Riverdog prices are not outrageous, in view of the high quality. Their wares merit a detour. The farmers (Trini and Tim) and their employees (shout out here for Becky) are all super-nice. Check them out!
