This is a newer, garage-kept, well-maintained vehicle, and the damage occurred while it was under the care of Recon Techs. When we returned to the business to address our concerns, the owner was nasty and confrontational and immediately dismissed the issue, blaming an automatic car wash, which was not the cause. We took the vehicle to a local auto body shop for an independent opinion. Without knowing where the car had been detailed, they confirmed the scratches were not consistent with car wash damage and were most likely caused by a dirty microfiber cloth. We then asked for recommendations on where to take the car for repairs and, coincidentally, they recommended Recon Tech, unaware that this was where the vehicle had been detailed. This auto body shop frequently refers clients to Recon Tech, but after seeing the damage on our vehicle, the owner stated he could no longer, in good conscience, continue referring customers to this business. We gave Recon Tech the opportunity to make things right, but they refused to work with us to resolve the situation.

I explained to the owner that it had arrived broken and that the Amazon seller was reshipping a new mirror. I had questioned whether it was worth replacing, but if it could be done for a reasonable amount I would like to keep from throwing away a beautiful metal frame. Owner stated they agreed, I gave dimensions of mirror and owner stated it would cost $50. I dropped framed mirror off and didn't hear anything until I called 2 weeks later. Owner stated the mirror was complete and I could pick up. The following morning I went to pick up the mirror. However, owner was not present and when employee went to charge me there was no ticket on the item. The employee called the owner and after some discussion I was told it would cost $120! I stated I could have purchased a new mirror for $130 and that I had been quoted $50 initially. There was zero communication in letting me know that it would cost more than double the initial quote. Had I known I would not have had it replaced. In the end I ended up paying $75, which is still more than I had been quoted, but not the $120 they had tried to charge me. I absolutely will not do business with this company again and will not recommend any company, such as this one, that bait and switch their customers.

I would expect that many in reviewing these kinds of things conflate their emotions about the damage/cost with what was actually done for them. I expected the company to show up with the correct window and someone who knows how to install it and then do so. I expect to pay a fair market price for that service (insurance issues are a separate kett;e of fish that Safelite is not responsible for). We got what we expected and are satisfied. Now if we can get Nissan to take responsibility for their exploding rear window on parked cars problem, we will be even happier.

They said I could come over right away and they'd look at it…read more Damion analyzed the chip and shared that it was a 50/50 chance it would crack more because of multiple points of impact. He shared an estimate of replacing the windshield if it did. After starting the work he realized that I had a rock hit exactly on the same spot as a previous chip repair. He touched it up, buffed it, and didn't charge me anything. Excellent customer service like this is hard to find these days. Highly recommend them for your windshield repair!
