Ordered a roast beef sandwich, chili dog and a diet coke. Chili dog was unavailable and taken off the order right away. Roast beef sandwich shows up and as I'm eating there is something not right. I'm chewing way too much and I pull out what I can only assume is twine that was used to make the roast beef. I try to find it in the sandwich to get it out, but I can't. I think I'm in the clear, but the next bite had more in it so I had to just give up. Also, the soda was warm. The only positive thing was that the pickle came individually wrapped, so the sandwich didn't get contaminated. But nothing else was redeemable here. read more

This is a great Kosher grocery store. Although it is not my regular store because it is a little out of the way, my husband and I were in the area for a blood drive on Sunday and wanted to get some of our weekly shopping done. We are so glad that we stopped by! My husband had been to this store before because he formerly lived in Hillside. The meat section has a very good selection of cuts of meat including filet mignon (not always seen in the kosher section), beautiful hand ground beef, and a great deli section. I only wish that they had some lamb available but I understand that it was Sunday, which is somewhat of an off day to do meat shopping. The frozen, dairy and produce sections are great as well. There is a good selection of products that I haven't seen in large chain supermarkets or specialty stores. I enjoyed perusing the staples aisles. They had some interesting spices and organic products. Glatt 27 packs a lot into the 10-12 aisles. There is a fair amount of parking on the side and in the back of the store, and the parking is well designed. The store is absolutely spotless. Although the store is not nearby, I would go there for holiday shopping, if I were looking for specialty items, or if I were in the neighborhood. Since there aren't many kosher markets around this area, choices for the consumer are few. There are some nice workers in there but for the most part they simply don't give a damn. The owners are awful and disrespectful. I have had rancid cold cuts and lousy sandwiches because they do not care. The meat is fine except for the cooked foods which are terrible. I spend 300 a week there and when I brought back an unsealed horseradish without the receipt they refuse to exchange. I will be going to Aaron's in West Orange where they treat me like a human being and they are proud of their dishes. read more

This is a nice cute, small, Kosher grocery store in Highland Park. The staff is friendly, and move quickly. The prices are pretty decent, but there's not a lot of Israeli based products for a Israeli grocery store. There's maybe 4 aisles in the grocery store, which makes it good for a quick stop. So. technically its not a real supermarket. I didn't see much fruit or produce, which was a little bit of a disappointment. They had a lot of stuff that I could just buy at ShopRite which also has a large Kosher section. It's small and clean, which makes it good for a quick visit. read more

I shopped in Glatt 27 this morning. My bill was $82. Yes, I expect prices to be somewhat higher than in a chain supermarket. I purchased to bags of 30 oz ravoli, it was one of the very few items in the store that had a price associated with it. The price on the ticket was $8.49 a package. When the item was scanned it was now $9.59. I asked to speak with the boss - he was nowhere to be found. Most reputable stores would honor the marked price. The cashier wouldn't change the price. I needed them so I paid the price. Once again this is Buyer Beware. I tried to justify the extra cost in the hope that it would taste better - probably not. Of course since very few products are marked the regular customers aren't concerned about price - I need it, just buy it. read more

Glatt 27 is the only kosher market serving New Brunswick, Highland Park, and the surrounds. It has a solid selection of dairy and parve items, as well as "gourmet" and "international" ingredients and sauces, and its own cooked food and deli offerings. It offers a wide range of types and cuts of meat - but that's where the problems start. With the exception of the Wise brand organic chicken, the meat is not clearly labeled as to source. Dividers in the bin indicate that the poultry are from Empire, but if you look carefully, there are notations on the labels mentioning "Alle", "K'J", and one other I cannot recall (not Empire). The beef, lamb, and veal are not marked at all - and when asked, the staff simply gestured to the Meal Mart-branded dividers. In other words, as far as we could tell, all the meat sold in Glatt 27 - except the very expensive Wise Organic brand poultry - comes from enormous agriprocessors who treat animals inhumanely and given them unnecessary antibiotics. The major brands that avoid this unethical and unhealthy treatment - Empire and Teva - are simply unavailable at Glatt 27. A sign over the meat bin stated that Meal Mart Organic meat was available, but when we inquired, we were told it was frozen only - and only certain cuts of beef. Moreover, the butcher seemed unaware of which cuts they had available and in what quantities - and, I should mention, completely irritated by having to help us. Each time he returned from the back room, he claimed a different cut of meat was available - but whatever we asked for, it was entirely or nearly out of stock. And when we finally received our small, expensive package of meat ($15/lb for flanken that was mostly bone), half of it appeared freezer-burnt and none of it was labeled in such a way as to assure us it was indeed organic. So... as much as we like to support local businesses, we will be doing our meat shopping elsewhere - if necessary, by mail order, online. read more

Glatt 27 is a small Kosher supermarket. They carry baked goods, meats, frozen foods, and other international delicacies. They also have a reasonably priced deli and prepared food. I tried a dish that comprised of two breaded pieces of eggplant with broccoli salad in between. It was really good and fairly cheap. read more

Glatt 27 was great in the former location and now is a top class kosher supermarket. The staff is very helpful and will help you find what you need or an alternative. The new location is gorgeous, wide aisles, and tons of variety. I love Glatt 27! read more

Unless you enjoy grinding your teeth in frustration to prepare for Shabbat, I would recommend against this sad example of a Kosher market/deli. Most of the staff are unapproachable, rude and unfriendly. A bad attitude is one thing, but it is clear that the management has no concept of "customer service" either. I was looking for organic beef, and asked whether they carried any. The staff person I asked - who was just standing around - snappishly informed me that they only had a particular cut. He then took upwards of ten minutes "searching" in the back only to return and report that they in fact didn't have that. So I asked for a different cut. Another ten minutes, and further unpleasantness, and... they barely had any, and not nearly enough. Really reminded me of the "Cheese Shop" sketch, only less funny. In this instance, they only had a sufficient amount of organic Flanken - overpriced, and, as it turned out, poor-quality from sitting in the freezer. Of course, I can only take their word for it that it was indeed organic, since it had no real labeling. Just one staff person wouldn't make a difference, but the fact is, very few of the staff I have spoken to, including the manager, have ever been helpful. Given that Highland Park is a small town with only the one kosher meat market, I expected far better. For their sake, I hope that no competitor ever opens, because anyone who paid attention to politeness and customer service could easily surpass Glatt 27. read more

I bought a soup from this store, brought it home and poured the soup into a pot to warm up. That's when I heard a metallic thud as a metal "S" hook, that hangs in an industrial kitchen to hang pots, fell into pot. The owners of the store were arrogant and obnoxious when I brought it back saying "what do you want me to do about it"? read more

The deli service is awful. Understaffed and slow. More often than not, they run out of prepared food by mid-day. I bought prepared food several times there, and almost always it was dried out. Staffing of cashier is ill-managed, resulting in long waiting time. I get the impression that management doesn't give s**t about its customers or it is merely incompetent but the store survives because it has no real competition in the area. read more

I stumbled upon the Yelp listing for Glatt 27 just a few moments ago and was utterly bewildered and appalled by what I read! I was so shocked to read negative reviews, that although I NEVER write reviews, the thought of the rest of the world getting such a poor impression of such a fantastic establishment was utterly criminal! Regardless, I have been a customer of Glatt27's for the last 8 years or so, shopping a minimum of 1-2 times a week. I have always had a wonderful experience shopping there, though at times I certainly wished they had more physical space to accomodate for the all the customers, neverthe less my experience has always been positive. . Their meats and Chicken are far and away the highest quality and freshest available in our central NJ area, Their beef is never frozen, and to the best of my knowledge, the majority of the time they only sell domestic product, rather than the cheaper yet poorer quality imported product from Uraguay. The butcher is always helpful and curteous, will even slice chicken breast thin for me when I buy the more economical Family pack. Any specialty cuts of meat I have ordered are always beatifullly butchered and delivered on time. There have been many times when I've made special requests for grocery items the stpre didn't traditionally stock. In those cases the owners and employees have alway been responisve and accomodating. One time in particluar sticks out in my mind. I needed a Passover item right around Rosh Hashannah time and no one had it in stock. The item was KFP Confectioners Sugar, I checked every grocery in the area and after realizing the product truly wasn't avalable, decided to ask the owners of Glatt27 if they could help me out. They called their suppliers and even checked the local markets where they lived and came up with nolthing. Obviously, the story does turn out well for me, the owners wife searched in their personal passover pantry and found an extra canister of Lieber's Confectioners Sugar and brought it for me the following day, I can not tell you how overjoyed I was!
