My local guy was closed, but I needed veal scalloppine for Marcella Hazan's 'veal in parchment with asparagus, Fontina, and Marsala'-my go to 'cook to impress meal. The owner hand sliced the veal from a beautiful piece of leg, trimmed it, and handed each piece to his aide, who then lightly pounded each slice AND layered each piece separately on shiny butcher paper. They were a work of art, and tender and delicious. He also sliced me up a pound of soppresatta, sliced it exactly to order, and first offered me a slice to see if the thickness was correct. The best part is that his prices are very reasonable. I always get my prime tomahawk steaks from him, my wagyu NY strip is the probably the best steak I've ever tasted, prime ground beef, prime filet mignon, and prime ribeye. He also has amazing hot Italian sausage and prime baby back ribs. I am a repeat customer and I am so happy it's in the area. Stopped by to order a sandwich for lunch. They have a nice selection of sandwich choices and soup on the lunch menu. Ordered a corn beef sandwich and was asked the fatty cut or lean! Of course the fatty cut! The sandwich didn't disappoint. It was delicious, the corn beef was moist and left my lips nice and oily! (I'm salivating as I'm composing this review.) Only issue was I wish there was a little more meat and maybe a pickle with my sandwich. Looking through their website and it looks like they also cater and they have a nice catering menu with good rates. I'm tempted to try them for a future family get together. The store itself smells like a cook making a nice steak dinner. The owner says they are always cooking something. Looking at the meat counter and the meat look really fresh and they also have veggies, bbq accessories, and variety of sauces and spices to make your meat taste good. For an early Mother's Day dinner, decided to have a home cooked dinner with the centerpiece being some high quality steaks. Looking for a local butcher, I keyed on Monmouth Meats because it opens early (8am) and also due to very good yelp reviews. Walking in you see a prominent display case with a multitude of meats and a coldcut section at the rear of the store. Plenty of beef cuts available, steaks (filet mignons, sirloins, ribeyes, bone-in ribeyes), roasts, bone-in and boneless short ribs, whole briskets, and ground beef. I even noticed bone marrow which is an item you'll probably never find in your local supermarket. Prices are very reasonable, and considering the quality of the meat and personal service, the slight extra in cost is more than worth it IMO. Keying in on the steaks, I decided on the filet mignon (for the parents) and boneless ribeyes (for me and my sister). Spoke to the butcher/owner (I believe his name was Stewart) and placed my order. Started off with two 8oz. filet mignon medallions which were beautiful in color and actually had some slight fat marbling in them. Ribeyes were cut to order from a large rib roast at 1-1/2" to 2" in thickness and it was quite funny when having cut one steak Stewart started to put back the roast into the display only for me to say I was looking to order two steaks. He said he thought we were going to share one Ribeye, but I reassured him that despite my slight frame, I was quite the carnivore and more than capable of holding my own when it comes to eating steak. That induced a nice laugh. Actually, we did wind up sharing one Ribeye; saving the other for the day after. The steaks were so delicious! Having a real "beefy" flavor that is really hard to describe; the best analogy is that the beef tasted nutty and gamey.....in a very good way! They really were a step above anything you can get from your local supermarket; unless your market sells Prime grade steaks. Mom and Dad loved their Filet Mignons as they each finished their steaks, which is notable as they are not huge fans of beef and rarely ever finish a steak (even as small as this 8oz. cut). Definitely will be re-visiting Monmouth Meats come BBQ/grilling/smoking season! read more

We're renting locally for the month of July and ordered meat for a barbecue. We got chicken breast, sirloin steak and ground beef for hamburgers. We called in our order and they told us it would be ready 90 minutes later for curbside pick up. They brought the order out to our car after we previously paid over the phone. High marks for Covid caution and safety. Most important, the meats were all of excellent quality. Delicious, tender, fresh - all top-quality. And reasonably priced for prime meats.
