Note that my review for the Glen Eyrie afternoon tea is separate. This review is specifically for the Glen Eyrie castle, grounds and hiking trails. The castle is cute, not quite the grand ones you see in Europe but might say it's grand for its (only) kind in Colorado Springs! The drive up to the grounds is scenic. There's a guard post where you get confirmed for your visit and then are given a day pass to enter the grounds, enjoy the different sites and trek the trails. There is a carriage house to the side of the castle where you have a gift shop and receptionists that give you a map of the grounds and hiking trails. You even sign a waiver before you hike! Went in the canyon rock trail which was rated a moderate trail to hike but highly recommend it if it's the only one you choose to go on for the day. It's about a mile up and the views are the best. There are steel wooden slat benches along the way although the modern touch takes away from the ruggedness of the scenery. Wish they were just plain wooden benches! There were a couple of trails that weren't depicted accurately on the trail map e.g. where one just ended up as a dead end. Overall worth the reservation for afternoon tea to be able to spend time in the grounds and hike the trails. The beauty of it all includes the wild animals that you see on the property like pheasants and mountain goats that just roam. Highly recommended destination! read more

Husband and I stayed here in late July and loved it! The grounds are beautiful, lots of hammocks scattered throughout to relax in, and it's basically in the Garden of the Gods park so you see these towering red rock formations from every location in the hotel grounds. The room was clean and well maintained, and it had air conditioning which is unusual for Colorado hotels (the two hotels we stayed in at Breckenridge and Crested Butte did not have AC). The breakfast buffet was located in the castle which offered great views of the rocks. Breakfast itself was fine, eggs, sausage, toast, fruit, yogurt etc. All the staff here are incredibly nice too. Hotel rooms don't have tv or a fridge but there is a community fridge downstairs. read more

How does one sum up an experience of the beautiful Glen Eyrie? Our visit to Glen Eyrie Castle in Colorado Springs was truly one-of-a-kind. My mom, aunt, and I spent a few days totally immersed in the peaceful beauty and history of this remarkable property, and while our stay wasn't without a few drawbacks, it was overall a memorable experience. One of the highlights was the afternoon tea we enjoyed at the castle. (See my review under Glen Eyrie Castle Tea). We also took part in the guided tour of the castle grounds, which was both informative and breathtaking. Learning about the castle's rich history while exploring its stunning architecture and beautiful surroundings was a treat. We stayed at the Elk Horn Lodge, located just a short walk from the castle. Our rooms were comfortable and well-equipped with two queen beds, a dresser, and an armoire. The open bath was supplied with fresh soap, shampoo, and crisp linens. While there was a shared kitchenette in the basement, it was a bit disappointing that the coffee service was only available to conference attendees--something we would have appreciated as regular guests. It's worth noting that there are no televisions in the rooms, but honestly, we didn't miss it. With so much to explore--trails winding through the property, a serene rose garden, and ample green spaces to observe elk, deer, and even turkeys--screen time was the furthest thing from our minds. However, our stay wasn't entirely relaxing. A conference was happening during our visit, and the energy of the attendees spilled into the common areas, with loud conversations echoing in the halls. The walls of the Elk Horn Lodge were somewhat thin, so we could hear our restless neighbors at night, which disrupted the peace we had hoped for. Another consideration is the cost of staying in the castle itself, which can be a bit pricey. The Elk Horn Lodge offers a more budget-friendly option without sacrificing the proximity to the property's highlights. Overall, Glen Eyrie Castle offers a unique experience steeped in history and natural beauty. It is a great choice for those seeking a peaceful (or romantic) getaway but is also an ideal destination for history buffs, nature lovers, and anyone looking for an inspirational retreat with a touch of enchantment. read more

The tour for the castle is really fun! The information is interesting. The high tea is also pretty nice. The pastries are yummy as well as the scones. The bottom tray was just okay the sandwich being the best. Nice staff working there too so it was just a nice experience. Amazing castle too, i highly recommend. Lovely quaint tea time nestled in the red rocks of Colorado Springs! The service was sweet, the clotted cream perfection and the tea hot! I came because my mom had visited when she was in Colorado for cancer treatment and sent me a postcard from here saying that maybe one day we would go together. read more

My partner and I stayed here for his birthday in May and it was an amazing trip. The grounds are beautiful, as is the castle itself. We stayed in the castle, in room 207 which was Elsie Palmer's room. It had a balcony that was fully enclosed with windows you could open, which was lovely for reading and enjoying a cup of tea on in the morning. There was a thunderstorm our first night which really made the vibes immaculate. They also left sparkling cider and some desserts for us for when we checked in since we got the celebration package. The room had decent WiFi and good air flow when we had the windows open, which was crucial for the hot May days. The bathroom was nice, water was hot, shower water pressure was decent. The bed was pretty normal, it did squeak a bit but it looked pretty old. The breakfast was delicious and I found myself going back for seconds both mornings we were there. The grounds themselves are gorgeous and peaceful. We never had a single issue with noise while we were there, day or night. We were free to roam the grounds and leave and come back in the car whenever we wanted. We saw wild turkeys wandering the grounds and enjoyed some treats from the bookstore cafe. We topped off the trip with a booking in the tea room, where we had a delicious meal and wonderful tea. All in all this trip was a dream. It was an expensive dream, but it was absolutely worth it and I would definitely do it again. read more

The tour in itself gets a rave review from me because of the views alone. A castle during winter? For sure was giving even better than Frozen vibes. I did feel a little bad for the older gentleman that was our guide because we had such a large group that wanted to walk up to the castle and it looked like it might've been a strenuous walk in the cold with his cane. I may have overlooked it in an email but I didn't know they expect that you came in your own vehicle to go from the carriage house to the castle. If you Ubered you'll just need to walk. I didn't try anything in the coffee shop because my friend wasn't too impressed with her hot chocolate. Would love to come back and try the tea experience because the servings there looked yummy! read more

Came here for afternoon tea with friends. It was during the Mother's Day weekend event and staff seemed a little weird that we were there with no mother, but polite to us all the same. We just felt the vibes were slightly off. Tea service was delicious as per usual and too much food for me to eat it all! Love that they always change their menus to keep things fresh. read more

Absolutely beautiful scenery! Entry alone we seen big horn sheep which was a sight to behold. I did the 2pm tour so my review is more along that as I didn't not spend the night. The tour was great! I wish they had better directions of where to go to start it as both myself and my guest were lost. But other than that the tour was great! Very knowledgeable guide and wonderful sights! First, I made my reservations a month ahead of time for Valentine's Day as I knew they would be busy. I used the online app many times before so I was familiar with it. I called the restaurant and I was told that they had no reservations for me; that the reservations go to open table. I went to open table and there was no reservation. I am so furious with these two entities for screwing up my special day I had planned. They told me I could be placed on a cancelation list!!!! Please don't use these businesses as they clearly didn't care about mine. read more

Loved that the property was so spacious with lots of walking trails. The castle is beautiful and the property setting is in such a lovely area with the rocks formations all over considering it borders on the Garden of the Gods. Explored the bottom floors of the castle which are open to view and this wonderful, knowledgeable gentleman John showed us around. Gentleman at the front desk was very helpful too If you are wanting to get away from your usual hotel settings I would recommend. The out buildings where the guest rooms are are pretty basic and simple but had everything you need. It's the beautiful property and the castle setting that makes your stay special I would stay here again .....you feel out in the country and yet still very close to Colorado Springs for restaurants read more

I am still overwhelmed by this place! We stayed the weekend last weekend and it was just the most gorgeous property. The castle is a real castle. It is sitting so majestically on a small hill within a huge property with all kinds of wildlife living there. We had Big horned sheep come right next to our car! The room was comfortable and very intentional to allow for your reflection and peace(no tv). I appreciated this very much as we have enough media all the time robbing us of solitude. This was a 1000/10 stay and the surrounding beauty of the mountains and birds just made it all the more special. read more

The highlight of our stay was breakfast. The room was below Motel 6 in quality (the Oaks Lodge) and whatever you do, do NOT fall for the little extra of the "hand made pastries" waiting in your room. I promise you, the crap left in the room was the lowest of the generic from Shamrock foods freezer stock and had spent many months in the freezer. It was gross and dry and just nasty!! Do NOT pay extra for that junk! As for the room.....Paint was peeling on the wall and ceiling, the room in general was extremely basic, and the heater was so loud that I spent two nights not sleeping. This was a horrible stay!!! The reason for the rating above a single star is that the staff at breakfast was INCREDIBLE!!! So warm and friendly and just fun to talk to and the buffet food was good. Absolutely loved breakfast but hated the room. The grounds were nice to wander and the castle was pretty....more of a nice mansion if you've actually visited a real castle, though. I would not stay here again and feel very disappointed and misled about the whole thing but it would be a decent place to wander and have high tea. Just don't stay and take all the info online with more than just a grain of salt. read more

They assert that it is a Christian establishment; however, I regret to express that they exhibit racist behavior. I had made reservations well in advance, and as soon as the front desk noticed that we were Latinos from Texas, they requested that we hold on to make changes. Subsequently, they provided us with a room that resembled underground barracks located in a basement area. It seemed that this space had previously been utilized for storage or a similar purpose. I was very disappointed with the room. While the grounds are aesthetically pleasing and they showcase attractive images online, it appears they assign subpar accommodations to guests they believe will accept anything. read more

If you haven't experienced the Madrigal at Glen Eyrie yet, put it on the list of things to do in Colorado. It's an amazing trip back to the 16th century including costumes, music, performance, and food. 5 sumptuous courses from appetizers to soup to salad to roast pork (or a veg option) to dessert, all is mouth watering delicious! Come with an appetite! The evening started out driving in to the site and experienced light displays, turkeys, and we were lucky to see the big horns. Driving up to the front door, a valet perked our car and we walked a short way inside to the tunes from a bagpipe. Going into the castle, we checked our coats and had many choices of munchies and Glen Eyrie's wasail. We learned some of the customs of the 16th century and met many friendly people to talk to.the cast of servers and performers were friendly and funny and very accommodating. From downstairs we headed up to the banquet hall (an elevator is provided if needed). We were arranged in sitting order and taken through Oriel Hall to the Great room. After our shire was introduced we entered the GREAT room. What a room it was! Humongous and decorated to the hilt! The tables, the walls, fireplace, balcony, stained glass window, costumes, it was just amazing! Some of the guests even wore costumes! We were dressed for a fancy dinner but here, almost anything goes. Some in tshirts, sweaters, gowns, and suits. The food was served by the servants and everything a production from the soup to toast (Martinelli's), even clearing plates part of the production. There was music by a fabulous choir and dancing and drama. We loved every minute of it. Our experience at the Madrigal happened in 2018. Now 3 years later I am a volunteer and get to experience the event from the inside. It is expensive but well worth it for at least a one time opportunity. I hope to see you there! read more

A few days prior to my California vacation, a new mandate put it on lockdown. There were only a few states that were open for travel within a day's driving distance, and on a whim I googled "unique Colorado lodging." Glen Eyrie was the best reviewed option, and once I realized I could stay in a castle, I made up a whole vacation based around it! Glen Eyrie, while perhaps not a true castle in the European sense, is certainly a historical home, and it's original owner designed it after real castles. From the moat, to the stone entryway, the giant fireplace, flags hanging across hallways, and even a suit of armor greeting your arrival inside, it certainly feels like the real deal. The photographs on their website are low quality, and I honestly thought we might be staying in a dusty ol' bed and breakfast, but no! It's gorgeous inside! My room, Castle 401, featured a full bedroom set of General Palmers furniture, even the original claw foot tub (on heated bathroom floors)! The ceilings are so high and the decor is stately. They leave the unoccupied rooms open, and all those in the castle were beautiful. They also offer rooms in the pink house and lodges, and I think they are not decorated quite so fancy, but I'm sure are still very nice (and offered at a lower price). Situated on 800 acres featuring majestic red rock formations, wild big horn sheep and turkeys, along with 8 miles of hiking paths, you could easily stay here for a few days and never leave the grounds at all. They even offer room service, and while the breakfast included with the stay left a bit to be desired, it is nice to have the option of just eating right there (I'd recommend traveling a few miles into town and patronizing Monse's Papuseria-yum!). They also have a book store that doubles as a coffee shop with loads of drinks, treats and snacks. Our stay was a few weeks before Christmas, and they host carolers on Friday and Saturday evenings at six. That's right, I got to hang out at a castle, listening to live Christmas carols by a cracking fire, as fluffy snow fell. Can you imagine anything more perfect? Employees were all so friendly and seemed genuinely happy to assist in any way. I left my pillow, and they got back to me immediately, shipping it home right away. Our stay was about $125 a night, slightly more on the weekends, which is an absolute steal. Prior to COVID, Glen Eyrie was more a conference center than anything else, and it is only a matter of time before word gets out and this stunning getaway is booked months in advance. I rarely want to do the same thing twice, but both myself and my husband (who is definitely not bewitched by the idea of staying in a castle), determined we would return even before our trip finished. Whether you never leave the grounds, or you venture out a bit (Garden of the Gods is like two minutes away and breathtaking, downtown Manitou Springs is a hippie haven, and even larger Colorado Springs holds some charm), you are guaranteed a magical experience. read more

I had such an amazing time at the being well in Christ Retreat last weekend. Mary, Donna and Heather were an incredible team. The big horn lodge was so comfortable and the staff very friendly. The food at the castle was unexpectedly terrific. Every person I came in contact with was above and beyond. Me and my family had stopped by yesterday and we were told that they close at 4:30 PM but that we can come back the next day and get off of the car and tour the castle so that's what we did. Today we came back and the lady who is working today is Serenity and the time is 3:20PM on March 19th just in case the manager reads this so that they can look at the cameras and see how poorly she treated us. In my party it was three cars, my aunt at the front, my dad and then my mom and me last. Serenity told my aunt and my dad the first two cars that they can't go inside because it was booked but that they can drive around and Serenity gave them a purple pass to drive around. When it was my moms turn to talk to her we had mentioned that the person working yesterday told us we can get off and she explained someone booked it so we can only drive around and we said "oh okay that's fine we'll just drive around". Then she said "no y'all are lying my security guard would never say that y'all need to turn around because yall said yall are going inside the castle" and my mom with a confused face said "no we understand we'll just drive around". She said "no I'm calling security you and the car in front of you need to leave now. That's my baby and I own it and y'all aren't seeing the castle." And we left immediately and will never go back again. We aren't sure if it's because we are Mexican and she's racist or if shes having a bad day. But I think it's because she is racist so if you are a person who is not white tread lightly and be careful please because this place is not friendly towards our kind. I hope that the manager will see this and take appropriate action. Diversity is important to us. I love the Glen. I have been volunteering here for their Christmas Madrigal for 6 years now and every year I come back and it's just so nice to be back walking these halls. The staff here is super nice. They work really hard to give you the best experience. There is a lot of work that goes behind the production of shows and catering the food and hospitality for it and it's really done from the heart. The wildlife has been more present since the Waldo Canyon fire. I have seen a distinct difference between the amount of wildlife on the property before and after the fire. I guess that with less options on the slopes they find nice manicured lawns here on the grounds. They make for one yet another addition to this wonderfully historical property. read more

Beautiful property tucked in near Garden of the Gods! Had the opportunity to stay here for a week for a conference and seriously have no complaints! They have multiple lodges and rooming accommodations and all of them were awesome. We stayed in Eagles Nest and our room was so spacious and had a beautiful cabin theme. The Castle itself is gorgeous! Don't be surprised if you see wildlife while on the property. The food as Glen Eyrie is uh-mazing! The chef is really excellent. Throughout the course of the week we had many different dishes and theres really not one that I did not enjoy. Bravo! I hope to be back here some day! read more

The Glen Eyrie Conference Center is a hidden gem, located just north of Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. We stumbled upon the grounds while on our 10th anniversary weekend in colorado springs and were very dissappointed we didnt know about it sooner. A month later we decided to go and stay for a week. The breakfast was so good, they have your typical hotel breakfast food bagels, eggs, cereals, fruit, milk, coffee, tea and juices but then they go beyond and have a fresh made meal for those who have a few minutes to sit and enjoy some eggs Benedict. Soooo delicious. The accommodations range from conference dorm rooms to 5 star accommodations. We stayed in a recently renovated beautiful room, where wild turkeys roamed outside our room. (We didnt stay in the castle, but absolutely loved our quiet room tucked in the trees and only a few minutes walking distance from the castle.). We fell in love with the friendly and highly competent staff! I have never met a staff at a conference center or hotel With so much love and pride in their jobs! They were amazing. We highly recommend this place for events, conferences, weekend get away, family vacation or to go to the madrigal banquet in December. read more

Glen Eyrie has an authentic European look, but we had the breakfast buffet and it seemed very American. The breakfast was very good. The service was outstanding and very accommodating. Lunch was again a buffet and the sausage was great. I didn't enjoy the lasagna as much, but that could just be personal preference. We participated in a group event with simulated rock climbing on a tower and a scenario driven team event. The employees that ran this were great. They obviously love what they do and show it. The views are unbelievable from the time you arrive until you leave. The main building they call a castle is more like a Belgian chalet. I loved that part, but urge visitors to not come expecting brand new facilities. It is older and very beautiful. We will be back. read more

Love the grounds here...lots of areas to explore and places to take pictures of. Took the tour of the Glen Eyrie Castle. TOUR: Tour starts off with a video history of the beginnings of Colorado Springs and of the life and career of General Palmer...the man who founded C. Springs and built Glen Eyrie (Valley of the Eagle's Nest). Goes into details that Gen Palmer was the second youngest Brigadier General in history, was a Quaker and decided to take up the challenge of fighting slavery...subsequent punishment from the Quakers was to have his name stricken from the membership books...or something like that. Palmer built Glen Eyrie for his family and also built the Antler's hotel in downtown Colorado Springs...it later burnt down. The second part of the video is more Navigator's propaganda about the influence of God and how you can use the Glen Eyrie conference grounds for your organization's religious events. Tour proceeds to the courtyard, around the grounds and eventually to the castle. You'll hear about the rock formations, the plants Gen Palmer planted, and details about the construction of the castle. They'll also inform you that rooms are available for rent if you desire. Overall, the tour was informative but could have been a little faster...too much detail was presented...an agonizing experience at certain points. GROUNDS: Bring a camera and shoot the heck out of this place. You can come here during the week without signing up for the tour just by stating you are going to the bookstore. Check the website for hiking reservations and spend your day leisurely discovering magnificent views. read more

I have a friend here from out of town, and hoped she could experience this beautiful place, so I asked if they could squeeze just one more person in. Nope. We attended a great concert there yesterday afternoon then spent the night. The room ran circles around every place we have stayed because the surroundings were luxurious, scenic, and quiet. We stayed in the room with the solarium. The colors were celery green, pale blue, and cream. We had a window boxed seat, lovely view of the Christmas lights, and were greeted by about 50 long-horned sheep on the terrace this morning. read more

The conference grounds has a variety of lodges, a dry stream bed, lots of woods and towering rock formations and a genuine castle with excellent rooms and food. Every time I visit Colorado Springs I make it a point to stay overnight in the castle. The attention to detail, orderliness and cleanliness all add to the atmosphere. For about $120 a night it's a real deal! Be sure to walk around the conference grounds and enjoy the scenery, beautiful and solitude. There's a good bookstore and cafe in the old carriage house adjacent to the castle. Also, if you sign the waiver, the hiking trails up and above the conference center are available. This place is a hidden gem in Colorado Springs and a definite must for an overnight stay away from the hustle and traffic that most of us have to endure back home. The castle itself is amazing. The grounds are breathtaking and the castle as a whole is well kept and rich in history. We stayed in a deluxe room and though we seemed to be one of very few in the castle, our room was somewhat lacking in comfort. One problem was that our room was tucked away in what seemed to be old servants quarters and it took a long series of twists and tightly uncomfortable turns through rough looking hallways to get to our room. Overall it just wasn't a very comfortable stay as far as the room goes, and this was frustrating considering the cost. Still, the staff was very polite and we had fun exploring the rest of the castle and grounds. Breakfast was enjoyable.
