This church has been my home since I first moved to LA. When I was just 10 years old my family attended this church, and my parents used to attend Glendale Church of Christ before I was even born when they lived in the area. Glendale is a very progressive church, and that is the reason why I'm still a dedicated Christian at 20 years old. I feel the church aims to learn and grow rather than keeping to the comfort of exclusion and outdated ideals that are not truly bible-centric. I am always proud to introduce and include my non Christian friends in events at my church such as the annual Christmas concert and our monthly group talks (always good food and good company!). Finding a church home when you are in unfamiliar territory can be difficult. We were drawn to Glendale's website because it appeared to be an active, thriving church. The church was as advertised. When we visited, we were immediately greeted and introduced to lots of different people. It was wonderful! I live in Dallas, Texas, but I visit once or twice a year for extended amounts of time. Initially I came to the church to enjoy their Christmas concert, and it ended up helping me with a project I was working on! So this review is about my experience renting the church as a location for a recent independent film/television shoot. I wanted to use the auditorium to stage a comedy scene because it was the perfect backdrop for what we were looking for, and the location representatives/lighting engineer had quick and complete control over the lighting grid to make adjustments on the fly, exactly the way we wanted. It was very easy to park and easy to access the location--parking was right next to the building and behind a fence so the crew felt safe leaving their cars there. It was incredibly easy to set up the rental and the paperwork was handled digitally (save the trees!) They even had customized signs made for us to direct the cast and crew exactly to the right place, and we had ample seating and room to take breaks (with comfy couches laid out for us), as well as clean bathrooms and nice accommodations. We EVEN were given the wifi password. If you need a location to film a scene in a large church auditorium, don't hesitate to ask for Gabrielle--the church's rates are reasonable, the hours are accommodating, the location is clean, and the lighting is adjustable. I was a member from 2015 to 2019 before moving to Illinois. Glendale Church of Christ is a great place for those who want to feel known and loved by a community. There are many opportunities to get involved ranging from worship, technology, education and outreach ministries. The people of Glendale Church of Christ exemplify the two greatest commands of loving God and loving others. Glendale is one of the few churches in LA that cultivates a genuine community founded in love. Go visit, and talk to the members. They are kind, loving, and Christ-centered. My husband and I started and ended our church search here! Love it here, and it feels like home immediately. We were almost suspicious of how nice everyone is, but 3 1/2 years later, they really are that genuine. The diversity and inclusivity is something you rarely see in this city. Bryan preaches a relevant, smart, relatable sermon, and Philip does a great job leading the choir/band. We are excited that we live even closer now than we did last year. Neither of us grew up in the Church of Christ, but from what we put together, it's a good mix of traditional CoC hymns and heart combined with contemporary Christian themes and inclusivity for all. I consider this church my family. I moved out to Los Angeles in 2010 to pursue a career in the Entertainment industry, and it took me about a year to find a church were I felt like I belonged. When I visited, I was immediately connected to someone with similar interests (also in Entertainment) and instantly felt like a valued member of the church. GCOC has gone through many changes in the past decade, but one thing that remains constant is the heart of its community. If something catastrophic happened to me today, I know that my cry for help would be answered by many caring, loving, and giving individuals. When I moved to Los Angeles from Texas, I really didn't know what to expect. My first week here, I was nervous, afraid, and alone but a friend invited me to the Glendale Church of Chirst to get to know her friends. It was then that I realized that it more like a family. More often than not, when I visit I new church, I keep my guard up. I'm looking to see if the church is kind not only to new folks but also the current members. However, when I came to Glendale Church of Christ for the first time; I was met warm smiles, friendly welcomes, and in-depth conversations. It was more than the pleasantries, this church is honest and loving--and that's something you can feel immediately. I've since made this my home church and become involved in the community outreach, worship service, and bible study. Friendly warm church with many ways to be involved. Strong leadership and ministry team. Don't let the outside of the building scare you off ... the inside is much nicer.
