The level of professionalism and schedule conflicts that have risen from Glendy in trying to get my daughter swimming lessons has been abysmal. I began to try to schedule lessons in June 2021. When we got lessons lined up for July, she canceled due to her getting COVID. After months of uncertainty of when rescheduling would be possible (due to her health) we sadly decided to cancel lessons and try again in 2022. I set up lessons in February/March 2022 for July 2022. Everything was set. I received an email confirmation and text with lesson details (which were very demanding) about a month ahead of lessons, and then a few days ahead. Today, on the first date of our scheduled lessons I received a phone call from Glendy saying she did not have me on her schedule for my time slot and if I can take a slot 2 hours later. As we live in Houston and Glendy is 45 minutes away, I told her I would have to speak to my husband about the change as we both work. I spoke to my husband, and we rearranged both of our work schedules for the entire week. Glendy then calls me back and says we do have a slot that she was just looking at the wrong schedule. I informed her that we just moved our entire weeks around and she apologized for the first time at this time. She then said she would try to move some things around. I got a text saying she will "make it work". I got another call and she said for us to come anyway and she'll "figure it out". What does that mean? I told her I didn't want my daughter to have to share a session with anyone and she raised her voice with me, told me she wouldn't do that, and hung up on me. I sent Glendy a text saying I didn't appreciate her hanging up on me especially after we have been accommodating on all the changes. I got another call from her saying she figured out a solution by asking another family to move their session and we would get a session today later in the evening close to the rescheduled time which I accepted. Now out of the blue, this afternoon she called me to cancel our lessons indefinitely and that we can find someone else to give our daughter lessons. This woman is unprofessional and unorganized. Took my autistic 3 year old for (5) 30-minute lessons and he can swim completely independently now. This was the best decision we ever made for him. We did conventional lessons at swim labs for over a year and got almost nothing out of them other than play time. We were referred by some close friends and now I tell everyone. Swimming is such an enjoyable activity for our family now. read more

She is on her second round of classes and is doing incredibly well at her first lesson. People need to understand these are NOT swim lessons, these are survival lessons. The lessons are pretty pricy, but I had high hopes because no one charges that much if they're not good. The "course" is for 30 minutes a day for 5 days. I was clearly mistaken in trusting her, my son basically learned how to float and paddle around, it was all very mediocre. Things that could've been done by any average swimming instructor WITHOUT having to charge that hefty price. This happened a little over a year ago. My son ended up being taught by my neighbor's teenage son and he was able to swim alone by the end of the first week. Case and point, just because someone is overpriced doesn't mean they offer quality. read more

Original review, right after we finished lessons: If you have a young child, you should sign up for swim lessons with Glendy! (I think she also teaches kids of all ages and adults.) The lessons we took weren't the splash around, play games, and sing songs kind of swim lessons. They were survival swimming, so that if my child fell into water and nobody was there to rescue him immediately, he would know enough to stay alive. My 2 year old took 5 consecutive days of 30 minute private lessons, and by the second day he knew how to roll to his back and kick until he found the side of the pool. It's amazing how quickly even very young kids can learn these skills. And it's definitely a skill every child needs. These lessons are a little more expensive than others, but they are private, intense, and effective. So they are worth it. Update: Glendy uses a teaching method that may work well for some, but created psychological trauma for my kid. My son loved the pool and was fearless, which made we worried about him not really being able to swim. So I signed him up for the week of classes that were designed to teach a young child how to survive falling into the water. I was warned that watching would be difficult, and it was. As my child screamed and cried while being lifted over her head and dropped head first into the water, I cried a little too (hiding, so he wouldn't see mommy upset). By the end of the week, he supposedly had learned the skills and was able to show me that he could roll over and float after being dropped into the water. Except that a few weeks later at the neighborhood pool when he fell in, he wasn't able to roll over and float (I was right behind him, so he wasn't in danger), so the hard-won skills didn't stick. And then when we signed up for regular swim lessons, I realized the full extent of the damage that had been done. My child would not go anywhere in the water with an instructor. He was terrified, shaking, screaming and crying. No matter how many times I explained that this teacher wouldn't do the things Glendy had done, he was just too scared. (This didn't happen anywhere else like MDO, just the pool.) It took about 18 months of private weekly swim lessons and then finding FINS before he would trust another adult in the pool. Thankfully, he now loves the pool again and is joining the swim team this year. Bottom line - if your kid doesn't get upset when dropped/dunked in the pool, then Glendy's lessons would probably be great. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend them. read more

Ms. Glenda is an amazing swim instructor! We took our daughter when she was 3 years old and by day two she could jump in and swim across the pool on her own (she is 8 years old now & still loves the pool). This is teaching the kids skills of how to save themselves if they fall in, along with swimming instructions too. It is tough but also Ms. Glendy is nurturing too. She knows when to help them and when they can do it on their own. The lessons lasted one week and by day five, they know how to swim on their own. These lessons are teaching kids survival swim skills if they fall in, get too tired in the water and learn how to swim. My sister took her twin 3 year old boys also and they did great too. After the lessons we went on a family vacation with all the kids & they were all swimming and felt very confident in the water after 1 week of swim lessons. It was well worth the money and I recommend her to anyone looking for serious results about their kid's water safety and learning to swim. Ms. Glendy was recommended by a friend who took lessons from her when she was a kid (many years before). So I was prepared for how serious the lessons were going to be. It was worth it for my child to know what to to do for her water safety, if it was needed. read more

Glendy is hands down, THE BEST swim instructor in the city, possibly the nation. Her method, "the Phil Hansel method" is unmatched. She has taught all three of my boys to swim at 18 months - 30 months old. It takes 5, 30 minute classes to acheive this. actually, after 5 classes, they are normally swimming independently. She is loving yet firm in her approach. She takes the idea of getting your child water safe very seriously. All of my children have dreaded going the first couple of days but then are excited to show me what they have learned by the fourth day. This is by far the hardest they have ever had to work at anything and they have a real feeling of accomplishment when they are finished. My 2 year old tells everyone he meets, "I'm an awesome swimmer!" Don't spend all summer in swim classes that only teach your child to blow bubbles. Send them to Ms. Glendy, she is the real deal! read more
