Extremely Concerning Experience - Safety, Food Quality, and Lack of Management Response I want to begin by stating that check-in was pleasant and professional. The front desk staff initially made a positive impression. However, the remainder of our stay quickly deteriorated into one of the most unsettling hotel experiences my family has ever had. I reserved two adjoining rooms specifically because I was traveling with my wife and our three small children. Upon arrival to the rooms, we discovered that the connecting door between them did not function. This was the entire reason I booked that configuration. We were forced to relocate rooms, which, while eventually resolved, created unnecessary disruption at the start of our stay. Shortly after settling into the new rooms, someone knocked on our door and ran away. I calmly informed the front desk so they would be aware. While waiting downstairs for our nearly $200 dinner order from the lobby restaurant, my wife messaged me in distress to say that someone was actively attempting to enter our room from the exterior. At that point, the situation escalated from inconvenient to frightening. My wife was alone with our three young children, and they were terrified. I immediately informed the front desk again -- this time with urgency -- and expressed that something needed to be done immediately before I handled it myself. The response was slow, lacked urgency, and showed very little concern for the seriousness of the situation. When a guest reports someone actively trying to enter their room, the reaction should be immediate and decisive. That did not occur. As a result, my family barely slept. The children were shaken the entire night. To compound matters, the food from the restaurant was extremely poor in quality. Nearly $200 was spent on a meal that was not only disappointing but ultimately made us feel ill afterward. The combination of a frightening safety concern and substandard dining made the evening completely unacceptable. The following morning, I attempted to speak with a manager. There was no manager on site. The on-call manager, Nick, did not answer calls from the staff or from me directly. I then attempted to contact the general manager, Mr. Patel, and received no answer. I called both repeatedly for approximately an hour before departing the hotel. It has now been over 48 hours, and no one has returned my calls. The front desk has my contact information and assured me I would receive a call back. No contact has been made. What is most disappointing is not just the initial incidents, but the complete lack of follow-up or accountability afterward. A family reporting someone attempting to enter their room should trigger immediate concern, investigation, and managerial outreach. Instead, we experienced indifference and silence. This stay turned what was meant to be a family trip into a stressful and deeply negative experience. Until meaningful improvements are made in guest safety protocols, food quality, and management responsiveness, I cannot recommend Glenstone Lodge to other families. read more

We stayed here as part of another hotel brand's program. This was the hotel they put us in for three nights. The team at the desk is great. Very polite and accommodating. We ultimately stayed in two rooms while at this facility. The first room was probably one of the worst we have ever stayed in. It was in disrepair, the carpet stained/dirty, and there was a noticeable unpleasant smell in the room. We tolerated the room for a bit but ultimately asked the front desk if they had anything else. The front desk did move us to a larger, cleaner room that had been "slightly" updated. What drove my decision to give this facility one star instead of two was the cleanliness of the towels. We received two bath towels that were stained. Stained linens are not the result of the facility needing an update or repairs. I would also note that the bath linens were no longer white and had seen a lot of use. As I told the front desk employees, stained linens cannot be addressed by moving guests between rooms. The lobby itself was nicely done and while there was some dated decor overall it does look nice. That is really the only area in the hotel that we found appealing. The elevator had trash on the floor and the floor was dirty most of the times we used it. We did not use the pool or any of that area so cannot speak to that particular amenity. As you can see from the pictures the right angle of a photo can make the rooms look appealing and clean. All of the photos are from the first room we used. Another review noted that several hotels in the area are "old" and while that may be true there is no reason to allow a hotel to be in disrepair or not provide clean linens. read more

Seriously disappointed in this hotel. Our room looked nothing like the photos. Half of the lights didn't even work. Very outdated and needs updated/maintenance. Difficult to get the front desk on the phone, and check in staff members didn't gave us incorrect times for when the pool opened. Can't believe I paid over $100 per night for a regular 2 queen bed room like this. Tiny bathroom, carpet by entry door is completely worn, door lock was barely there and falling out of the door, light switches don't function properly, no sink drain cover, broken lampshade, rust all over room decor, night stand light only works if the night stand is pushed back to hold the plug in the outlet. We even had brownie chunks on the floor by the table when we arrived. I was really unimpressed. Seriously, the only good thing was the cool waterfall feature at the pool. The photos are Great, the hotel? Not so much. We ended up getting a room by the pool and it was TERRIBLE. The smell was strong, it smelled like mildew in our room. The sheets were yellowish. On the back of the door there are several holes from where they have changed the locks more than twice. it was overall dirty. I complained, and was moved upstairs to a cleaner and nicer room. However, the fireplace or the TV would not work in the new room. I would not recommend this hotel. Thankfully they tried to make it a little better for us, but overall not a good place to stay. read more

Great spot to stay super close to downtown Gatlinburg. Decent prices for the rooms. Room was clean for the most part (more on that later) and had a microwave and mini-fridge which was nice. The fridge is actually a little bigger than a mini fridge which is something I was curious about and couldn't find any info beforehand, it's about 2.5-3 feet tall and can definitely hold lots of drinks and even leftovers. The only caveat is the breakfast situation. I would highly recommend to skip their "breakfast buffet" at the restaurant inside the hotel. it's literally just your basic cooked frozen sausage, powdered eggs turned scrambled, bacon and some home style potatoes and it is SO EXPENSIVE. I couldn't find info on that before booking so I thought it would be helpful to include it in my review. No pancakes or waffles either. The indoor pool is really nice but gets so crowded with kids that it was impossible to enjoy very much. Even the hot tub unfortunately was not relaxing at all as many kids liked to jump off the ledge from the hot tub to the pool so we were constantly being splashed. Front desk staff were always super nice and helpful, only thing that made me a little uncomfortable was the night desk clerk when we checked in played some kind of gospel/religious music pretty loudly. Pertaining to room cleanliness: Let me start with that I am a clean freak and get grossed out easily. I may have higher standards than most and I understand that, I also understand this was a budget lodge not a 5 star Marriott. I just would like to make some simple observations. The beds and linens were very clean which to me are the most important. The bathroom was clean besides the tub area (see pics). The floors were OK, there was scraps of previous guests trash and dust and debris very visible around floor boards and under the desk. AC unit filter was spotless so that was great. Overall I think we'd stay here again because the nightly price is definitely some of the lowest in the area. read more

Hotel is nice location right off the Main St. Hotel staff from check in to check out were friendly and efficient. The in door pool is nice with the uncertainty of the weather in Tn however there were a lot of kids late at night making it difficult for the adults to enjoy the hot tub. The hotel is older and outdated and beds were very uncomfortable and could use some updating. After leaving the hotel I realized I had left some very expensive hair styling tools and was expecting to call and them not to have them. However next morning we called spoke to a very friendly and helpful staff member Ursula who took the time to check and found them resorting my faith they have honest and kind employees. 5/5 for staff helpfulness 3/5 just because the hotel is out of date and needs a lot of updating. read more

Love it, love it. Not for everyone, but we will definitely be back at least once a year. Who am I kidding, we will be back at least 4 times a year. The Smokies are one of our favorite places. Of course, it was the first place my man took me when we meet. Twenty years later we still go multiple times a year and have fun every time. It is an older hotel that has an out of sight pool and hot tub. Again, if you are wanting or expecting 5 stars and free breakfast, this spot is NOT for you. Benefits include later pool hours with multiple pools...YAY!! The location is great for staying in town and sightseeing. You can just about walk to 'the strip' just make sure you wear comfortable shoes. Or take advantage of the free shuttles. If you don't like to wait a long time for the elevator. Or if you don't like glass elevators, this 'resort' is not for you. Not only it is super slow, its not very big with it illogical shape. They are currently remodeling the restaurant. The rooms were done within the last year. The pool still needs to be refreshed. All around a good place to sleep. We will be back, it is perfect for what we need and expect. read more

Glenstone needs a serious renovation. If you need a place to lay your head on a budget then it's good for you. The outlets that did work were loose and our plugs fell out. We had to get a light bulb replaced then was flickering as soon as we got in the room. The wifi was slow, and the elevator was even slower. To make it worse, the stairs were emergency exit only so you couldn't even use them to avoid the elevator lines. The pool is a lot smaller than the pictures elude and decor hasn't been updated since the 80s. Be prepared and don't have high expectations. read more

It's under construction, but that doesn't excuse the fact that they didn't even have coffee in the morning. Instead, you'll have to make the hike down to Starbucks when they open at 7am and then back up the hill. Our first room wreaked of mothballs. We tried airing it out to no avail, but the smell was not going anywhere. Thankfully, the helpful gentleman at the desk was able to get us another room that smelled fine. The rooms were clean. The property was clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. The pavilion was great because we were with a large group of people, so it gave us a nice outdoor location to hang out. Beware of bears. Don't leave food in your car and don't litter. They have a cool indoor pool and an outdoor one. I'd expect it to be awesome when the renovations are complete, but seriously, NO COFFEE?! Well, I should mention that they have room coffee and those packets of non-dairy dry creamer with sugar and a stir stick. It was pretty awful. Honestly, I would stay here again if it were the only option, but I wouldn't recommend it. read more

I've been bringing my family to Gatlinburg nearly every year, and we absolutely love it here. We're seasoned travelers who enjoy hunting for deals and trying new places to stay. However, this hotel experience was so deplorable that it's the first time I've ever felt compelled to write a negative review--and believe me, they earned it. From the moment we arrived, the issues were glaring. On day one, I noticed a solid inch-and-a-half gap under the front door of our room, which let heat and AC escape constantly. But that was just the beginning. On day two, while I was in the shower, my two-year-old son managed to open the door and wander out unsupervised--because the doors lack any secure locking mechanism to keep children safe. I ran through the hotel in a panic, screaming his name, only to find him in the lobby with a kind stranger. The experience was nothing short of traumatizing, and I urge you to choose any other establishment if you value your family's safety. The problems didn't stop there. By day three, trash had begun piling up into a small tower outside our door. We rented three rooms total--345/347 (connected), 349 was a single unit and the neglect was consistent across all of them. In 347, trash was only collected on days two and four, and our linens remained dirty until we complained to management. In 345, fresh towels didn't arrive until day four (after management intervention), and when they did, the new linens were stained, with two pillows missing pillowcases. In 349, a single unit, we had one missed trash pickup and went four days with a growing pile of used towels on the floor. Housekeeping was practically nonexistent unless we escalated issues ourselves. The rooms were plagued with additional problems. Faulty wiring meant outlets provided inconsistent power--I woke up multiple times to a phone at 23% or lower, forcing me to rely on a battery pack. The bathtub was revolting: slimy, barely draining, and clearly uncleaned. These conditions were unacceptable for a family vacation. When I raised these concerns, management offered a refund for one night's stay for two of our three rooms. I rejected it--it was an insulting gesture that did nothing to address the gross negligence we endured. I've attached photos and a video documenting these issues as proof. For the sake of other families, I cannot stay silent about this hotel's appalling standards. Save yourself the frustration and book elsewhere. read more

I was completely shocked, surprised, and at a loss of words when I was greeted by 2 police officers as I was heading to the front desk to check out of my hotel room. I had a luggage trolley full of all my items, along with my 12 year old son holding his items. At this point, I was unaware of any contact attempt by the hotel to me. My son told me the day before that he was told by "a manager" to stop riding his scooter in the hotel. When I asked my son if the manager requested to speak with me or if the manager was upset in any way and that I needed to speak with them, his response was "No, he was friendly, just told me to stop". At that point I didn't think anything further about the incident. We put away the scooter in our trunk at some point that afternoon. I would like to point out that we arrived on Saturday at 230pm and it wasn't until Monday that my son was addressed for his scooter riding. I also would like to point out that instead of addressing it further with me, the adult and parent, it was only discussed with my son. When I asked what this was about - why the police were called - The front desk person stated she was aware of tire marks made by the scooter. Again, I asked why this prompted a call to the police and I was not given a clear answer. I was mentally paralyzed as I was before 2 police officers thinking I was being charged or arrested for something unclear and how I would get my kid somewhere safe. There was no one from management present to further explain. I was told by the staff that a charge had been made on my card for $548 (without my authorization or discussion) AFTER I asked if any charges were made. Why I had to be the one to ask instead of the hotel staff printing some sort of receipt with breakdown of charges is beyond me. The next statement made by the police officers were that we were banned for life and that we would be considered trespassing if we set foot on the premises again. The officers waited for me to finish checking out to escort us out of the premises like criminals. If the staff was really concerned about finding me, then why was there no more urgency to that search? A note under the door. A note on the door. An email (I had been receiving emails from the hotel so I know for a fact you had that on file). I do not know why the hotel staff had my old number on file since I had to input my information to book the room as well as fill out the pre-arrival check in. Apparently the staff knew my son and stopped him at one point - why not ask to speak to me at that time? I was unaware of any knocks on my door as I was exploring and visiting a new city and wanted to enjoy it. I brought my son to Gaitlinburg for his spring break, it was our first time ever at the city and opted to visit Gatlinburg over Myrtle Beach because of the great reviews I was given by my co-workers. Me and my son were making plans to visit the hotel again during the summer since it had been an enjoyable experience up until I was checking out. Never again will I be setting foot in your town or ever recommending the town, let alone your hotel, to anyone. As a hotel, they are in the service and hospitality business, we are your guests. I would have been more than happy to discuss any alleged damages to the pool carpet. Instead, it was assumed that I was actively avoiding the staff when your search was lacking much effort. Stayed one night at Glenstone Lodge before a backpacking trip. My main criteria for hotels are location, cleanliness, comfort of bed, shower pressure. John at check in gets a 5 for friendliness and going above and beyond to give us great information. Location gets a 5 because walking distance to the main drag. And the little creek behind the hotel is charming and there is a little coin out area. However - here are the negatives -it's a family place- the pool was overrun by children so couldn't even sit in the hot tub if you wanted. So great if you're a family- but not great if you're single and child free- that's a personal preference no one can help -the bed was comfortable but the pillows weren't super soft and the bedding was thin -the sink had a very slow drain -the shower pressure was weak -there seemed to be mildew or mold in the shower -TV was fine- had the channel list- so could get to what to watch -walls are thin- back to the families- there was a kid up early and we could hear every single thing Overall 3/5 stars- would not stay again - but wouldn't tell people to avoid. read more

With current reviews I came in with really low expectations and was really worried about how our stay might be. That being said, I don't know if I have ultra low standards or if this place really doesn't deserve the type of hate it gets. Yes, it's an old hotel. And they renovated it with some paint and newer fixtures, new carpet. It doesn't look brand new because it's not brand new. The rooms are "dated" because it was built many years ago, and that's that. The renovation is nice and the hotels were clean. The beds were comfy enough. The bathrooms were a bit small but doable. Good heat and water pressure and our tub fixtures while not top of the line still were new with their renovation. We were in an exterior room and can't speak to complaints about humidity in the rooms near the pool area. Exterior elevator was for staff only, I guess. This was a bit lame. Wifi worked well for us. The lobby is large and nicely renovated and the restaurant is now open for business although we didn't use it this visit. We had a pleasant and quick check in process. The parking was not as bad as I expected it to be. There were always spots available even during our busy weekend stay and the spots are spacious enough. Things that might improve the hotel is tidying up some detail work from the renovation... mostly paint chips and a few gaps in between mirrors and the wall, etc that weren't accounted for. A smart tv. And I do think overall I enjoy a hotel with hard floors and not carpet... that however is unlikely to happen any time soon. read more

The room was not very clean, we had a roach crawling on our bed. When we said something they would not accommodate us, we were telling family on the phone about the situation and Rebecca the manager threaten to call the police and have us removed. And that is just what she did. My family was there for cheer comp, she put me and my husband out with our 13 yo 2 yo and a new born and refused to give us a refund, she charged is for the whole time even though we got forced to leave. She then lied when I called to ask about the charges and said there were damages to the room. I am entirely to ocd to leave damages or a mess especially when my card is on file. I would never stay again. I would recommend baskin creek! This place doesn't even deserve one star! We come to Gatlinburg every year and have never been treated like this! read more

Roaches. We paid almost 400 dollars to stay here for two nights. We got everything unpacked and got ready to lay down when I saw a roach run across the desk that was holding our food and clothing. We hadn't been in the room for more than three hours. I called the front desk and they told me they would NOT give me a refund but would love me to a different room. I told them that is not acceptable and they have to give me a refund. Oddly they immediately agreed. The guy at the desk told me that it was strange that they haven't had any complaints about roaches before. So, while I was waiting for the paper work I decided to look it up on here and just EIGHT days prior somebody else posted that they saw roaches. I showed him and his manager and told them that they were being dishonest. He tried to change what he said to "we haven't had complaints about roaches in THAT room" but had had complaints about roaches. I told them then that means that they have a roach problem and the manager got nasty and said "no it does not mean we have any problems". At 9pm I had to repack my room and drive to Pigeon Forge to get a room at the Home2 which was half the price and 100 times nicer...... and roach free! read more

As a guest at the hotel on October 8, 2021, we received our room keys. Later that same day while we were laying on our beds, another guest at the hotel was able to use their key to get in our room without knocking. The hotel checked then in to our occupied room giving them free access to our room and our stuff if we had not been there. My boyfriend was very upset about this, and we decided to leave the next day earlier than we had planned. Logan checked me out and told me the day of check out would be an issue, but he could put the 3rd day back on my card. When I told him what happened to me, he stated he'd personally take care of my check out for that day too. After 2 days, I notice nothing was put back on my card. I called to talk to the manager, Rebecca, and she claimed Logan had not talked to her; thus, calling me a liar and stating the 2 days will not be funded back to my card. She told me to call expedia when Logan stated she had called ecpedia for other guests before and it would be no problem for her to handle it. She needs to call expedia and refund my money., period. She comes across lazy and not backing the word of her employees. My trip was ruined because of what happened, and I'm not paying for 2 days I didn't stay there, especially after given the okay by Logan is was going to be refunded. I enjoyed my stay here. The building is old (as most things are in Gatlinburg) but has been remodeled and looks nice. The lobby and entryway are stunning. I will admit that it was humid in the lobby due to it being summertime and the pool being indoors. We had a seamless check-in and our room was on the 3rd floor with a balcony. Everything was clean and fresh. The A/C was cold too, so our room was very comfortable. The pool area is nice and while it's older and shows it's age in spots, is still well-maintained. I'll definitely be staying here again. The price and proximity to the strip is 100% worth any cosmetic issues that may have been present. read more

We come here every year for the 4th of July and a family reunion. The staff is great and always so welcoming even though we're a large group and can be overwhelming. I really appreciate everyone from the front desk, housekeeping, the breakfast cafe, to the maintenance team. Everyone does a great job and makes you feel at home. Highly recommend this hotel. Okay hotel for the price. It is conveniently located and an okay deal. The room and hotel are non-smoking and clean. The bedding and furniture feel new and look good. Likely had a recent remodel. The hotel is very close to the center of the main drag. A quarter mile to Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts. One drawback is they do charge $6.00 for breakfast. Update: The $6.00 breakfast isn't worth $2.00. It's old and cold and may have a handful of canned and old choices. There is a Log Cabin Pancake House a hundred yards down the hill. Go there for breakfast. They have one elevator and it is soooo slow. Always has a wait during prime coming and going time. 3-Star--average at best. read more

I seen the reviews on this hotel and was kind of skeptical because they were mixed. I am a stickler for a nice hotel and can't stay just anywhere but the rooms were clean, the people were nice and the beautiful pool area was as expected. I liked it for the most part the only thing I could complain about is that the toilet in my room was running and you had to make sure the knob was lifted other than that it was a pretty good stay and I would return. read more

The pictures are NOT accurate. Think less "mountain lodge" and more "the shining". Dimly lit everywhere. Dark, stained carpet throughout. As we stood in line to check in, the desk staff randomly gave the customer ahead of us a pretty passionate speech about how they aren't liable for injuries if someone jumps into the pool. Super off putting. Maybe just put a sign up, so we aren't greeted by that speech? Welcome! If you die, not our problem! Bugs in our room. Yes. BUGS. Huge stain on carpet of our room. Balcony cement was cracked and chunks were missing. Didn't feel safe standing on it. Air conditioner was loud and really struggled to keep up. They have a picnic area with a labeled bear proof trash can. The issue was, they also had a random aluminum trash can right next to it that was overflowing. Why even have a bear proof trash can if you're just going to put out a non bear proof trash can next to it? There is a beautiful creek behind the building...that was covered in trash. Really sad to see. The first thing we did was walk to the creek, and were immediately disappointed when we saw water bottles, beer cans, cigarette packs, etc. Utilize that creek! Clean it up and add some seating. Let people enjoy that area. If you want any privacy at all, don't stay here. We. Heard. Everything. Every cough. Every sneeze. Every door shutting. (The doors shutting sound like an explosion they're so loud, but that's another issue altogether). We could hear everything from our neighbor's room and the hallway. And the parking lot. And people on their balconies. You get the picture. Our room also just wasn't cleaned. We saw the cart on another floor when we left for the day. Came back and our room hadn't been touched. No new towels. Bed wasn't made, etc. No free breakfast, but the bugs were a free add on that we didn't even order, so I guess you have to weigh the pros and cons. read more

Room was clean, however the shower floor felt like it was hollow and like you were rocking in a boat. Pillows were hard and felt like they weighed 5lbs. Beds were hard. Staff was friendly. Food from restaurant was not great. Wings were burnt and pizza was okay. Refrigerator leaked and didn't keep items cold. It's not the fanciest place but it's clean and the staff is very welcoming. Unfortunately the way the hotel is built does not make for any sort of quiet time. You are either facing the indoor pool with an interior room that is very loud (and the pool is open from 9am-11pm) or an exterior room that opens up to the parking lot with nothing to help with sound dampening, which is about the same feeling sleeping in my car. I woke up both nights with the garbage truck emptying dumpsters in the parking lot next door at 4am like it was in my room. Nothing the hotel can do there but the exterior rooms have zero barrier for sound or light other than some curtains and a very cheap and not well-made door. We were here for a quick weekend for sports so it was fine since we weren't hanging out in the room much. One super positive note is the Mountain Trail Grill and Pizza restaurant on site that just re-opened. I was expecting mediocre to bad hotel food but we were pleasantly surprised by how great the food was. We had pizza one night, pasta dishes the next and breakfast one morning and it was all really good. I would highly recommend the restaurant for an easy and casual meal that was not super expensive and very good. The staff in the restaurant is also very nice. read more

Ok my family came down for The Battle at Rocky Top. I read the reviews for the place before we arrived. The comments about roaches had me second guessing the place. As soon as I open the door boom roaches. The room was outdated and every time I opened the refrigerator the TV went off and came back on, lol. My wife and I brought bug spray and cleaning supplies to clean the bathroom. We dealt with it but for the price this place needs to to better. One plus the restaurant dinner was pretty good and staff. Don't buy a six pack of beer though it's s 25 bucks lol. read more

Pros- the staff was nice. The lodge was probably nice in the early 80s Cons-old and needs to be updated, ROACHES, ROACHES, ROACHES. The waterfall from the pool is very loud and people are out there until at 11pm. There is also no break from the smell of chlorine. I wouldn't recommend this place to a dog with fleas read more

Started with 2 stars down to 1 Star! Front staff was irritated that I asked for a hard copy which I explained I haven't received the email. I hadn't intended to complain about the facility until the looked she gave me. I told her another reason to be disappointed, no email and the place was dirty. Her response with the look "this place is not dirty". In my mind "yes it is", pictures don't lie. Advertised as newly renovated. That's pushing it a little bit. New carpet, pillows are the worst it must have been a complete mess. New flooring here and there. Impressive pool, although I personally wouldn't spend time in it. But public pools are not a plus in my book. First night charge not bad but weekends are ridiculous. Don't do it, believe me there's other places available. read more
