We absolutely loved our time at The Wayback! The hotel itself was adorable; the themeing was perfect in the main lobby - the room was PERFECT - and the pool area was the best of any Gatlinburg area hotel we've ever been to! It was great at nighttime with drink service! Let's talk about the people; we got there at midnight at Michelle at the front desk was PHENOMENAL!!! She made a great first impression and handled all of our questions amazingly. Then when we walked by the office the next night, she RAN outside to talk to us! You can't beat that!!! The bartender at the pool, whose name is escaping us, was great, and made some killer cocktails!!! One one the things we loved best was the proximity to The Island. It is literally a 4 minute walk to all of the fun there! And a 15 minute ($12) Uber to Dollywood. The one negative during our time was issues in the restaurant, causing them to not serve hot food. That was unfortunate; but we WILL be back and have already told many people about The Wayback! read more

Awesome suggestions. The room and pool were also so cute! I love the theme/vibe. I had a ton of space in my room, it also had a little kitchenette. My only complaint is that my room was an adjoining and I could hear the tv in the neighboring room so loud. I had trouble sleeping. But after I put in ear plugs and turned on my sound machine app, I was fine. Would definitely stay here again. read more

We chose this motel for its retro theme. I have to say, it's not worth the money. The food is ok. In my opinion it shouldn't be serving Mexican food without knowing how to prepare it properly. Now, as far as the staff, the receptionist was quite flip when they couldn't locate our Priceline reservation information properly. After 20 minutes we finally figured it out. Now for the really bad news. After spending the day, Sunday, at Dollywood we can back to relax. We took our shoes off and within an hour of walking around our room, they have tile floors, our white socks were black on the bottoms. It's obvious they don't with know how to, or don't bother to clean their floors properly. I won't stay here again. read more

LOVED this Marriot stay. Reminded me of Palm Springs when I was there. The complimentary hot breakfast isn't buffet style. You sit down and order with the vouchers you get for booking. Loved how they did that. The pool and hot tub are open up until 10 PM, so plan accordingly. There is much to see in Pigeon Forge. I hope to return in the future for the snow season at Ober Mountain some day. read more

This hotel is cute for instagram, it felt like a safe place to stay and it was in an wonderful location on the main road on Pigeon Forage and only 10-15min from Dollywood. I wouldn't say no to staying there again. However, it is trying to be a boutique hotel but it is a fun themed motel that is taking itself to seriously with prices especially for what you get for the price. We checked in and arrived to our room not having towels, we got some when asking for them. The rooms bathroom door is cute but not really practical. There was no hand soap provided for the bathroom. The lobby seemed to have actually been renovated from the old motel they overlayed but the rooms were definitely just updated with paint and cute new retro furniture. Weirdly, our room and our friends in the room Nextdoor had different toilets and they had towel hooks but we didn't in the bathroom, so it felt very thrown together. Also, the housekeeping only took out the trash and maybe replaced the towels. Didn't replace used cups, didn't make the beds, if that is going to be the level of care and cleaning that should be announced at check-in or before. Also, again, not for the price point in which they are trying to sell themselves. It was very weird. Lastly the Breakfest as good for the free with stay we got, but the food often came a little cold, the serving staff was all kind but all seemed a bit untrained, it definitely felt like some kind of better training program should be set into place to help them and the guests, since it was all of them, not just one or two. Also, they seemed to have a spoon shortage while we were there, weird. So I guess overall, it was just pricey for what it is, or they need to work a little harder at what they want it to be. Which, mostly felt odd as a Marriott property. I feel like I'd feel only a little differently if it was locally owned without a big chain attached to it. read more

I was completely hesitant on a Marriott hotel that was converted from a previous motel - but this fun kitsch experience has changed my mind on the boutique motel vacation. The modern-retro design of the rooms and lobby works well at transporting you to another era. Our room was bright and colorful and the king bed very comfortable. The room had a fun little retro fridge and Keurig coffee maker with several K-cups, but no microwave which we would have liked to have had. As this hotel is a throwback, I think fun-minded couples and empty-nesters can appreciate this venue much more than kids would. If you are looking for truly traditional, this isn't it. The breakfast might also be alienating to those wanting more tradition. The breakfast offerings had a Mexican twist with limited options - including gluten-free churro pancakes, which I thoroughly enjoyed. My partner had the Huevos al Horno - the tomato sauce was a bit overpowering. The staff at the breakfast were wonderful and made sure we were happy with our stay. This made it feel like a real family-inn with a personality. The location, in the heart of Pigeon Forge, was perfect for walking over to The Island at Pigeon Forge and neighboring Fun Centers. Horrible experience. I'll start by saying I stayed at this hotel for a couple of hours about 3 weeks ago for a quick rest stop when I was passing through town headed somewhere else. For the 5 hours I was there that time the hotel was 1/2 empty and it was a good experience. So I booked it this time for two nights and boy was I super disappointed. Do not be fooled. This is a Motel, not a hotel. They have put lipstick on a pig. The only expos that the food (my first stay) was good for breakfast. I had it this morning on the most recent stay that prompted this review and it was not good and the wait staff was extremely rude to guests (not just me), I watched time and time again as they told each guest that their free breakfast voucher didn't include a tip. (Duh, it says it on the voucher), but they talked to everyone like they were stupid as they sat then and it was very rude and condescending. Also, when you tell them Thank You, the proper response from them should be you're welcome. Not zero response at all. After all, you're thanking them for doing their job after all. Not for going above and beyond. (I've always tipped them well, even though today they didn't deserve a tip at all, I still did.) Avoid! read more

First let's start off with the girl at the front desk the young girl with the oversized nose ring that is just looking for attention clearly with that attitude that she gave me as in why are you talking to me, umm your at a front desk for a hotel why wouldn't I interact with you, great customer service skills right there. I'm not one to judge anyone for what they look like as I come from the punk scene I was clearly stating what this person looks like. Second I get into my room and I hear music coming through the vents I'm like wtf? Then I realize it's coming from the go kart track next door as it was an announcement to drive safe. Third they take a $250 deposit that's a bit excessive for a place like this as I've had some very luxurious rooms over the years and I have never had that much of a hold on my card! Basically this was just a simple generic room at a place that thinks it's better than it is with that said I wouldn't stay here again just for the inconveniences I found from start to finish! Pigeon Forge is what it is, but I found this place to be an oasis in the midst of chaos. It's a converted motel and you only know that from the parking lot pool and the open hallways facing the road, but once inside any room, you're taken back 50 years. We loved our extremely comfortable bed and the design of the room. The electric fireplace below the TV made for a nice evening after a long day of driving and breakfast the next morning was both well done and well-served by the staff. I'm not sure I'll plan on returning to the Myrtle Beach of the Mountains, but if I do, I'll absolutely stay here. read more

This was our third stay and we really enjoyed the first two stays. We liked the fact the pool area was for 21+ and enjoyed being served in the hot tub or poolside. Sadly, the Wayback changed course and is now kid friendly at all times. While I adore small kids, my vacation is the one time I enjoy a pool and hot tub sans kids. Sadly, no wait service and the airstream bar wasn't even open on Monday evening. This stay wasn't nearly as enjoyable as previous stays. In an area where all too many hotels occupy the space between regrettable and forgettable, The Wayback is truly a breath of fresh air. This cheerful, completely refurbished, classic Motor-court is a relaxing haven from all that is Pidgeon Forge. Common areas are stylish and comfortable. The rooms are full of charming details...loved the waffle robes, the toiletries and the design of the rooms. The pool area is super-cute and the Elvis impersonation was the perfect touch after a day at Dollywood. The Paloma is chill and relaxing and also quite good. The cocktails and breakfast particularly stand out. The orange dessert is to DIE FOR. They do need more staff on weekend mornings. read more

Avoid this hotel! The pictures they have are deceptive. We checked in and realized right away this wasn't for us. We chose it because it is supposedly a Marriott and that is where we choose to stay. First, We are quiet hotel people. All of the rooms surround the pool and it was very loud. The elevator was cramped and not clean at all. When we got to the room we found that it was dirty. We found a used hairnet on the floor and the sheets had stains on them. The second room we had was also dirty. Then, we discovered that the toilet doesn't flush. We were supposed to stay two more nights but we have decided to move to another hotel for the next two nights, even though it means losing money on this one and having to pay more for another hotel. My room is right by the ice machine and people will come by at all hrs of the night to get ice. It is loud as hell. I put earplugs in my ears and could still hear all the ruckus. That is the biggest drawback of this place. The second thing is I saw multiple hairs on the sink when I first checked into my room. So it was not very well cleaned. The wall also has a weird stain. The shower is at least clean. However, the bedroom part is clean and I was comfortable! The best part of this hotel is the bartenders! The guy at the Airstream and Nicole in the main lobby bar were both so personable and provided great service. If only all bartenders were like them! The food at the restaurant Paloma Scratch Kitchen is hit or miss. That said, the best things I tried were the elote, the combination of the kohlrabi fries+sauce, and the strawberries and cream dessert. (I tried the tacos and it wasn't to my liking.) The pool area is awesome. Even if you don'r swim, it is a great space to chill, and the bar is right there too. This place has lots of potential but also room to improve. The theme is a good idea. We stayed because we usually have good experiences with Marriott. The room wasn't very clean at all. It looks like they wiped the bathroom wall with a dirty rag and it stained the wall. There was a little streak of what looked like blood on the wall opposite that. There floor was filthy. The second morning we asked the front desk if they could clean the floor. That night there was still Cheerios under the corner of the bed. It looked like they just made the beds, set new towels and left everything else. One of our group found a wad of hair in a towel. I found hair in the shower. We stayed in a connecting room. Both the rooms were dirty and we were startled awake at 4AM when the garbage truck emptied the dumpster right outside the door. The bed was comfortable. read more

Upon first arriving, I was hesitant by the exterior. It's a motel, with outdoor entrances. But the interior is totally renovated and has a really neat throwback palm springs theme going on. We only stayed one night but enjoyed it! Employees at the front desk were so nice and personable. The provided robes was a nice touch you don't get at most hotels. And the pool and cabanas looked nice too, though we didn't check them out. Since its an older building the walls are kind of thin, but for the most part the outdoor noise didnt bother us. So cute! Total 60s retro style with a true Palm Springs motel feel. The lobby to the rooms to the pool are perfect! I also love a room with good mirrors. The hot tub is killer and is adults only after 6pm, which is something I really appreciate. However, they only give you 2 coffee pods in your room, and we went down to get some from the lobby, but they said they don't start serving it until 7. My biggest complaint is the stuffiness of the room. Our air conditioner didn't get very cold and it felt like we could hardly breathe both nights we stayed (it's October, I can't imagine if it was July). We had a wonderful stay at the beautiful new Wayback hotel in Pigeon Forge! From the location to the service -- I can't recommend this spot enough. This was my first visit to this area, and it seems like there are two camps of visitors: those who stay in cabins, and those who stay in hotels. Before this trip, my husband fell into the former category -- but our time at the Wayback may have changed his mind! We stayed for three nights and have nothing but positive things to say about our visit. The Wayback is right off of the main road through Pigeon Forge, which provides easy access to and from Gatlinburg or Sevierville. The lobby is gorgeous -- full of carefully curated decor with an artsy, bohemian-inspired theme. Our room had the same colorful details throughout. Everything was clean and comfortable, with that slightly elevated feel you find at Tribute Portfolio hotels. I also love the lit up mirror in the bathroom, which is perfect for getting ready. We didn't get to enjoy the bar on this particular visit, but I love that they include vouchers for their signature drink, the Paloma, when you check in. We did, however, enjoy some lattes from the espresso bar. Every time we came to a team member in the lobby with a question, they were friendly and helpful. We even met the general manager as we were checking out, and he was a delight! I absolutely recommend The Wayback to Gatlinburg newbies and veteran travelers alike. We will be back! read more

On a road trip from the Canadian border down through Ohio and Bardstown to Charleston and ending in Miami we stayed at many Marriott Bonovoy top hotels. The Wayback in Pigeon Forge is an Autograph Collection property and looked very cool - Palm Springs retro motel a la moderne- so we stayed. This is a nice concept but no one thought to hire trained, experienced or passionate staff , thus the Wayback is a nice idea until you need assistance with anything. Shame, Marriot. After the Ritz in Cleveland, Lytle Park in Cincinnati, Grand Bohemian in Charleston and Casa Monica in St Augustine on this road trip, the Wayback is not worthy of esteem or Autograph Collection designation. Get an hotelier to run this establishment, get properly trained staff and start over. I give 3 stars only because of the cool concept. From non existent poolside service, to no soap and unclean bathrooms in the restaurant, to disinterested staff when concerns were raised, this hotel survives only based on its appearance. Very disappointing stay. There was constant noise in the hallway starting around 7am, making it impossible to sleep past that time. Employees were loudly yelling outside the room, which was extremely disruptive. On top of that, the shower head pressure was terrible. Stayed over for a night while visiting Dollywood. The rooms are nice and spacious - love the theming to feel like I've stepped into the 70s. Our room wasn't ready until 4 - but that's check in time so I cannot complain! After a few hours in the theme park, we returned to Paloma - the lobby bar/restaurant and hung out for a few rounds. Fairly priced food and drinks and the cocktails were delightful. Every staff member I came into contact with was friendly and helpful and they all talked about how happy they were to be working there. The bartender was a 10/10! Giving two stars because it's better than the local campsites. I can't believe Marriott calls it one of theirs. While I was acknowledged for my status when I checked in (which they did do an early check-in), which was the other good thing, other than location (for Pigeon Forge). Booked for 7 days, left at five because it wasn't worth staying. I love the mountains, but it's become so touristy, even in the winter months. Very sad what it's become. Then the room itself, the one appliance that was actually here (a coffee maker), I asked 3 days in a row for them to bring up one that worked. Never did they ever do that. Then to add on the cleaning. They did not clean the first 2 days. I was here the entire first day after check-in and there was no knock at all on the door. The 2nd day they left my towels and cups/etc outside of my door for me to take inside. Then on the 3rd-5th days, --they don't appear to clean until after 3 pm, or whatever it is that they call clean (pick up/change out towels and pull the covers up). The counters were not wiped down, the shower was not cleaned, the shampoo didn't work, and the lid was completely off, but they didn't fix that either, they don't wash cups, didn't take out the trash. In addition, there was plenty of construction work of sorts going on in the facility, which every morning at 830am all that happened was the constant slamming of the door next to mine. Living that dream. From there, I walk out to my car and lying in the parking lot was a razor blade from one of the construction workers' box cutters. Do not recommend and will not be back. read more

This hotel is not a Marriott owned hotel and they do not faithfully follow Marriott policies or procedures. On the day of, they canceled our room for overbooking. Marriott booked us at another hotel 30 minutes away at our our expense. No breakfast, no extra 5000 points as was a promotion in our original booking for 5 nights, and no apologies. We even paid more for the hotel stay out of town. They made excuses and did not offer a single thing for the inconveniences. Do not book at this hotel is all I can recommend. What an adorable hotel! We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived by the sophisticated charm of this Marriott property right across from The Island of Pigeon Forge on the Strip downtown. This 3 story property is retro and quirky, painted white with pink railings and trim and sage green room doors that catch your attention! The decor is a modern and colorfully eccentric twist of retro and art deco throughout the property. Even the room mini fridge is a play on the 50's icebox style! The Staff were super friendly and accommodating all 3 days we were there. The lobby does not have a "market place" as most Marriotts do so bring your own snacks, supplies. Rooms are clean, colorful and comfortable. (No microwaves in room or lobby though) An on site restaurant that has a 4.5 star Yelp review. The Paloma serves breakfast til 11 at a quaint breakfast bar or in the charming dining room. They have an espresso coffee assortment too! The dinner menu is primarily Mexican food and we did not get a chance to try it so can't rate it. The pool area is so charming and colorful. 3 colorful well appointed cabanas along with comfy, colorful and classy poolside lounge chairs and seating. The pool has beach entry with bubblers and a covered dining area with TV ceiling fans and the CUTEST Airstream trailer that serves as a bar and refreshment stand! The pool floaters provided include colorful striped tubes and a huge pink Flamingo! This place is something the 50's Barbie would LOVE to spend summer afternoons enjoying. All rooms face the pool and strip. One main elevator accessible from the parking lot and also a ramp walk to all 3 floors, which we used each day. We stayed in Mid August for an event at the Le Conte Center only a mile away. Walking distance to great shops, food and family fun. We recommend this hotel and will be back! read more

Not the usual cheap soap, coffee and shampoo that other hotels have. I never heard a neighbor and I needed that! My hubby and I visited Pigeon Forge for one night and decided to stay at this hotel. I made the reservation ahead of time but for some reason they couldn't find it when we got there. It somehow showed up in one system but not on the one that would give me a room. However, the staff was superb and made every effort to help me. Finally, the manager had to take care of our check in. For our inconvenience, he upgraded our room and gave us drink vouchers. I would recommend this place just based on the service, but the hotel aesthetic is definitely worth the stay. We loved having a fireplace in our suite especially since we were freezing ourselves. read more

This motel hotel is so cute and very clean. You cannot beat the location. It may seem scary to cross the busy street to the island but we did it easily with two small children. With the location comes my only complaint- the street and surrounding noise. Police sirens, horn honking, and the go kart place next door. None of it woke up my kids but it did wake up the adults. TERRIBLE! The room was dirty upon arrival, there was absolutely NO SOAP ANYWHERE, and the parking was very confusing. We went to the breakfast, and waited an hour and a half for our food. There was absolutely no communication between the kitchen staff and the waiters/waitresses, and when our food finally did come out, it was INEDIBLE. It was so disgusting we immediately left. Every single table next to us was also complaining and had been waiting for just as long as us, if not longer. When the food for the table next to us did come out, they told them they ran out of potatoes. Rightfully so, the table was upset that the staff did not communicate this in the HOUR AND A HALF beforehand that they had spent waiting with no check ins from the staff. I will say the waiters were absolutely not the problem and were being very kind, but it is quite clear management is incompetent and unable to run their business effectively. The prices are RIDICULOUS for the slop you get served and the way you get treated. I would never recommend coming to this place. TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!! read more

The only positive thing I have to say about this hotel is "I'm no longer staying there". This is a Marriot Tribute hotel, and that has me rethinking Marriot Bonvoy as a program. I've enjoyed some of their other Tribute, boutique like hotels, but this is a travesty. It's puzzling how Marriot is associated with this. I discovered it is impossible to communicate via the Bonvoy website or application - I can either call or send a letter, no email or messages, and there are no reviews, so that is a major weakness with their program. We checked in around 3:30 and several people before us were told rooms were not yet available - not a great start but understandable, check in is at 4. Yay for us, our room was available. This hotel is an older Holiday Inn style hotel with outward facing doors, no significant lobby. We make the trek to our room to find a very questionable door (I've attached a picture) - flaking paint and it's dented. I looked around and found a few like that. This hotel is in a somewhat well lit area but it's high traffic, so I didn't immediately think crime, but I've yet to come up with any plausible reasoning for how these doors are dented. When we went into the room, it was very obvious it had not been cleaned. Both beds were unmade, trash in several locations, unfinished drinks waiting to be discarded (the previous tenant made no effort to clean). I should have left at this point but room availability in the area was scarce. Front desk did their best to apologize (sorry!), "give us a few hours and we'll get it refreshed". I suppose they did, but the whole experience left me wondering if I'm sleeping on clean sheets or a "made up bed". Cleaning staff also left some cleaning supplies in the restroom before leaving. All in all, I'll never stay in this hotel again, regardless of availability at other hotels. I'd rather "just go somewhere else". The idea of a boutique hotel is appealing, they can be fun, and this hotel delivers in some of those aspects. The room décor is art-deco, the restaurant seems nice (no way I would consider eating there after the state of the room). The bar area is well appointed, we were given two free drinks from a very limited menu on check in. The pool area also has a period specific bar (don't expect a lot there, it's just an airstream) and some heated igloos for the weather. Pros: none that I can really think of, I suppose the décor is nice but that's useless if the room and service are questionable; I suppose location is nice, it's on the parkway, but it dumps you into the middle of traffic on a red light, good luck getting out Cons: one elevator, outdoor access (I knew that checking in, but I was willing to roll the dice), understaffed, chaotic (staff communicates poorly), small rooms, no lock on bathroom door, bathroom doors do not shut - they are barn style, no ironing board and iron - there is a steamer - ours did not work; any number of these I could have overlooked, but all together, this was upsetting; NOT A MARRIOT BONVOY EXPERIENCE - I suspect on the weekdays, you could rent this hotel by the hour read more

We stayed here for a night to do some shopping!! Loved the Decor, it was CLEAN, Showers were great, beds great!! Probably one of the best beds. However beds are so different from person to person & each person has their own preference to what they like..... Over all tho the best part is the staff!! They are exceptionally friendly. Even offered to help us with our luggage. They gave everyone a drink voucher for a free cocktail, coffee, specialty coffee!! We used them the morning we left for specialty coffees. The lady making the coffees was extremely nice & patient. Good Coffees. They have a restaurant when we looked over the menu we wasn't sure what everything was but we watched some YouTubers that had the food and it looked good & they raved about it. If we would have stayed longer we probably would have tried it. We loved the Boxed complimentary waters in our room. My husband is wanting to switch to boxed water now. He said bottled water isn't that good for us cause of the plastic or something. LOL We didn't get to try out the pool area which was one of the reasons we booked it. The heated dome tents, heated pool and 20 person hot tub & the Airsteam outdoor bar & food allsounded fabulous. However, we had went to Anakeesta & waiting in the long line for tickets, the long line for the lift chairs, walking around & waiting in more lines. Spending about 4 hours there and waiting in a LONG for a bus back down we were so exhausted.. If you have kids I probably wouldn't stay here. The pool area turns into adults only at 5 leaving no time really for kids to get to enjoy the area. Our kids are grown but my oldest daughter had her 2 children, 6 and 2 with her and even if we would have gotten to go down we probably wouldn't because they love to swim & we would have felt guilty.. We had a room in the back but you can hear people come up the steps (we were right at the steps) and people these days don't care about others & if they are sleeping. There's only one elevator so unless you are close to it, it's not that convenient.. Again the employees were amazing. Probably the friendliest we have ever had and we have stayed in the area more than I can count or remember... so if me & my husband would come back with no children in our group then I'd Definitely stay again. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The only 2 drawbacks were the tile in the room was dated and didn't seem clean. Everything else was good in the room. Our room was next to the dumpsters so the garbage truck woke us up at 4:30 am 3 of the 4 mornings we were there. read more
