This review is mostly based on the lack of timely customer service I received this morning and a cleanliness issue. I chose the Glider Diner cause I have not eaten there in a couple years and decided to see if anything was new. The place was busy but not overcrowded at 1030 this morning. I sat down and immediately noticed how filthy the knife was on the table. The fork was fine, but the knife had food stains and fingerprint smudges all over them. After almost 10 minutes of waiting a server finally decides to come over to hand me a menu. While she was nice there was no introduction on her behalf. I told her about the knife and she took my drink order. Fast forward to the food and it was passable. Glider was never known for their breakfast options so I won't knock them for that. During my meal the server came over one time to fill my coffee. She however never asked how was everything or if I needed anything else. My last negative was the wait time after I got after that fill up of coffee. I was done eating and had finished my coffee but my server never came back around to my table for almost 20 minutes. I was pretty patient as I was in no hurry, but at the same time wanted to get my day going and not just sit there. I had seen her at the other end of the room the couple times serving other tables. She finally came to my table to ask if I wanted more coffee. I kindly declined and asked for my check. Short version is the food was fine, but customer service and cleanliness are more important to me and need improvement. As a part of my job, I am required to go to the Glider due to handicapped accessibility. The food is so bad, I always come home and say I had "crap" again. It's been about 8 months that I've had a steady taste of the Glider, due to work, and not once, can I say I had a good meal. From breakfast to supper, just garbage. It's nice when your forced to get what you DON'T want to order. All we wanted was a plain hamburger each. And the very rude waitress told us we can't just get hamburger, you must get French fries, and lettuce, tomato and onion on burger. Forced to get platter. went there last Sunday after church. couldn't at first understand why the parking lot was so full but pulled around back to where the handicapped parking is by the rear doors to find the entire rear lot including ALL handicapped spaces were taken up by an outdoor dining canopy. we parked in the lot belonging to the bar next door pushed my wheelchair over and had to manually unlock the double swinging doors so my wheelchair fit. the waitress said they all told the owner about blocking the handicapped acces and were told it was none of their business. asked to speak to the owner (who was VISIBLY on site) we were told he was "busy" and would speak to us soon. we were there for an hour and the coward would NOT come out to speak to us. The food was ehhhh. It's a Scranton institution. Was. I'll never be back. Definitely not ADA compliant read more

I refuse to eat at this diner ever again. Staff is slow. They make no effort to clean tables when people are waiting to sit. One Sunday a group of us came in for brunch and we were waiting for a big table to be cleared for a while. I have yet to go to the Glider Diner and not get violently ill afterwards. I've ordered a variety of things on the menu, and have gotten sick every time. The food is typically very greasy (even the pancakes!) so I assume everything goes on the same grill. People rave about this place, but I don't understand the appeal. Although I don't expect "fine dining" at a diner, I've been to several who have had much better food than the Glider. If you want cheap food that's NOT saturated in butter and oil, I'd go elsewhere. read more

Born and raised in Scranton. Always loved the glider. Moved away 22 years ago and was in Scranton so we had dinner at the glider. OMG it was great had there famous hot roast beef with fries and gravy over every thing. It was just as I remember delicious. It was my husbands first time there he also enjoyed it very much. summer time while eating your meal plan on having your fork in one hand and a fly swatter in the other hand. its absolutely disgusting the amount of flies hovering around your food! now the worse part is you cant just order a regular hamburger or cheeseburger, your forced to buy a platter even if you don't want all the stuff that comes with it! its extortion at its best! "what if im allergic or do not like frech fries, tomatoes, lettuce, onions whatever platter stuff is included but im still forced to PAY for all of it despite just wanting a burger". this is ridiculous and shouldn't be legal! My local friends introduced me to the Glider during my fourth year at MU. Honestly I'm glad I didn't know about it sooner because my waistline would have doubled. Everything is good. The staff is friendly and the prices are so reasonable. The hot roast beef truly is the best, hands down. I even brought my family here when they were in town for graduation. The staff cheerfully accommodated the group of 8 and, although the place was packed, managed to get us tables together fairly quickly. It's much larger than you would think from the street. At least half of my family had the hot roast beef based on my recommendation and they were all very happy with it. Everyone else was happy with their meals too! I make a point to stop when I visit NEPA. read more

The service is friendly but the breakfasts are sub par. The breakfast burrito is a wholewheat wrap with an omelet inside, I once ordered the fruit with my breakfast and was told that I couldn't order that because it's seasonal (I had assumed that the selection of fruits would be seasonal, not that there is a set season for fruit), and their corn beef hash is flavorless. Love the Glider. We go here with the kids every now and then. Prototypical diner. Good breakfast( THE best cinnamon rolls anywhere. They're roughly the size of a grapefruit. Awesome). Good lunch/dinner selection. I can't say I've ever had anything I didn't like here. Everything is reasonably priced. My main gripe is that they are closed on Sundays. read more

Was in area for work. Stopped in for some breakfast. Home fries were cold. Had my empty cup on end of table entire time I ate - not once refilled. It's a well-known local Diner; like most large Diner's they have a large menu which subtracts to the equality. Breakfast is always good, if you're in for lunch or dinner you have to try the meatloaf. read more

The Glider has been around forever with good reason. The food is great at great prices. There's a reason President Obama ate here on his first campaign trail. Breakfast is served all day long. They are famous for their roast beef but I prefer the turkey. Nothing wrong with roast beef. If you're eating a late dinner, have plenty of choices. They have good food diner food here and for decent prices. I'm not a fan of roast beef, but I have many friends who say the open face roast beef with gravy is amazing. Whenever I visit Scranton I make it a point to get here at least for one meal. Food is on point and at times surpasses for what is expected of typical diners. This is probably the worst restaurant I've ever been to in my life. I walked into the restaurant with a group of 7 and they immediately told us we couldn't sit together. We were told to sit in the back of the restaurant in a corner. Next, the ketchup for my French fries was glued to the back of the bottle and refused to come out. After a few taps it eventually squirted all over my pants. Also, my chicken Caesar wrap only had chicken on on side of the wrap. I was famished after my meal. The man next to me ordered a cheeseburger. It arrived 10 minutes late, and he described as the worst burger he's ever eaten. DO NOT GET THE MEATBALL SANDWICH!!!!!!! I just got a meatball sandwich and it was INCREDIBLY greasy!! The meatballs were bland, as was the sauce. The fries were okay at best, a bit cold though. My coworkers and I decided to try this place out for lunch today. The booth was a bit cramped when sharing a side with another person, but the food was excellent. I had the roast beef sandwich with mashed potatos and it was well worth it. The waitress asked right away if we wanted to split the check which was good since we had forgotten to ask for a split check ourselves. The only downside is that there's a minimum $10 purchase for credit card transactions, so one of us then had to pay cash. Overall though, great food, great pricing. read more
