Excellent find in Scranton PA after spending the day at Steamtown viewing the Big Boy locomotives. Hot pastrami on rye, nice, delicious and stacked on fresh rye bread! Being from DC, it's nice to get some price relief! Had 6oz Pastrami and 6oz Corned Beef sandwiches (with a side of 'slaw) which were both delicious. Could have easily have devoured their 10oz options. Service was fast and friendly in a pretty casual, typical kosher deli environment. read more

Abe's presents itself as a Jewish deli and they have all the right products. But I've been eating pastrami for sixty years and this had an unpleasant smoke taste. Their rye bread is not a Jewish rye, they have to deal with a better bakery. Service was friendly and excellent. read more

Wow! While in Scranton on business, the I visited Abe's Kosher Delicatessen & Restaurant for lunch. This downtown Electric City eatery has a NYC vibe, complete with somewhat unfriendly staff - not a smile to be had. So why the wow? Their Reuben made with a mix of corned beef and pastrami, NY style (10oz) may very well have been the best reuben I've eaten. The rye bread was perfectly toasted, moist and not dry. The meat was incredibly flavorful and tender, and the sauerkraut was plentiful, with the perfect balance of tang and flavor. It was an easy 10 out of 10. Thanks to my fellow Yelpers I was able to find an authentic Jewish deli on my way to NYC in Scranton Pa, our midpoint. We stopped for lunch. There is street parking near this more than one hundred year old business. Step back in time, take a seat and wait to be amazed both by the food and the wait staff. There are plenty of old favorites like corned beef and Rueben sandwiches (they are huge!), knishes, smoked whitefish matzo ball soup and pastrami (are you hungry yet?!) and also middle eastern delights. Since I am a sucker for Middle Eastern food, I ordered the Middle Eastern sampler, which given its price was less food than the Middle Eastern platter. It was enough food for an entire day. Of course, I had to eat it all and could barely eat dinner that night. I had a choice of two salads, and selected the chick pea and the quinoa, both with enormous portions. This was served with baba ghanoush, hummus and very fluffy and delicious pita bread. My husband just had to try the potato pancakes in addition to his Vegetarian Platter, and we were served three pancakes the size of my head so I felt obligated to eat one. Perfect! The food was great and our waitress was very helpful, explaining the various tributes to The Office around town after we inquired. On our way in, we passed by Dunder and Mifflin streets! The restaurant most likely has not changed since it opened in 1908. Scranton is lucky to have such a great place! read more

We noticed that this place is highly rated so we picked up sandwiches on our way to ski at Montage. The service was friendly and speedy. My husband ordered a Smokey turkey sandwich on rye and I ordered the most popular everything bagel sandwich with smoked salmon, capers and lto. The sandwiches were very good but we would make adjustments when ordering again. The turkey sandwich needed a deli mustard and the everything bagel had caraway seeds which overpowered the sandwich. I wanted a salt bagel but the deli does not make them. Overall we were quite happy with our and look forward to our next sandwich. read more

Be careful of street parking as it is metered, but the meters are only every so often. We weren't familiar with this meter method, and thought street parking was free--this was corrected by a $35 parking ticket! Yikes! Hubby had one of their triple decker sandwiches. It was served with coleslaw that had thousand island dressing on top. That was a new way of serving coleslaw to us. Ask for the mustard for your sandwich. I had the middle eastern sampler. Stopped here on our road trip- wanted a nice regular place and this place is that. Filled with regulars and really nice efficient service. The fries with gravy were a huge hit ( we don't eat that in NY) and the pastrami Reuben's were amazing. My son enjoyed his corned beef Reuben and commented that he learned cheese was not necessary for a good Reuben. I had the "rare roast beef" sandwich and honestly would've expected it rarer and more thinly sliced so wasn't overly thrilled with it. But the rye bread was soft and delicious and I bought a loaf to go, as well as bagels because I doubt we'll get good bagels in TN! Great place, highly recommend. read more

Stopped in here randomly after Yelping out a place to eat in Scranton whilst visiting Steamtown. It was a short walk (±20min) thru DT Scranton to get here from Steamtown and we're always down to get our steps. Unassuming little place run by a friendly man (Abe?) who we actually met while paying the check. The décor is what one would expect to find at a typical diner and the waitresses themselves seemed shipped straight from the Big Apple itself―sans the attitude. When at a NY-style deli ordering a Reuben ($9/6oz) is a must. And what's a Reuben without a knish ($2.5) on the side? The Reuben was quite spectacular. It wasn't piled high like one might see at Katz's, but the sandwich as a whole was simply glorious. The star of the show, as it should be, was the juicy, well-flavored house-made pastrami. It was easily one of the best sandwiches I'd had in a long while. The knish was served with a schprtiz of deli mustard (ofc) and it was fried-up perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and gooey in the middle. Overall, great experience. Fantastic food, great prices and terrific service makes this a good choice to grab a bite when visiting Scranton. read more

What a treasure! We stopped in for breakfast on a Tuesday morning. Had yummy bagels and lox, and an order of blintzes for good measure. Everything was made to order and absolutely delicious. The coffee and tea are standard diner style, nothing fancy, but you can stop at Northern Lights if you want a cappuccino or loose-leaf tea. Extra-friendly service, too. Most popular pastrami and corned beef sandwich - served hot- was terrific. Finger licking good. We got an order of the potato pancakes and they were great. Make sure to eat the pickles and cole slaw.
