This place is awesome!! First night in Monterey, we bought 5 candles.. No complaints.. Don't expect the candles to be lit just like in the store when you bring them home, it totally depends on the field of view of your light / power of the bulb. Had a girls weekend in Monterey with a friend and our daughters. Stumbled upon this candle store and the girls loved it! We went back every day to watch one of their employees (Mike) make candles while the girls stood and watched the dipping and design process. Mike was incredibly kind and patient with all their questions. They said they want to talk about candle making for their Science Fair project this year! Thanks for a great experience! Candles are good. Some looked great, while others were a bit messily made. You just gotta choose which one is right for you. The only warning i have is that these candles are super fragile and it's kinda hard to reuse with tea lights. Neat concept and they can glow beautifully at night when lit. Might be willing to buy again but not sure at that price point. I paid almost $60 for 2 candles. Also, customer service is non-existent on their website. This place is awesome! My daughter and I went inside this shop last week and we encountered a man who worked there who really touched my heart. I'm obsessed with candles and so when I got here I was in heaven the candles are amazing to say the least! Browsing through the candles I saw one with a pink ribbon and asked the gentleman if he had one with a yellow ribbon. He said no but it could easily be changed from pink to yellow if I'd like. Long story short he asked me why yellow and I told him the baby I had in my stroller was my daughter and she was recently diagnosed with stage 3 aggressive cancer. We spoke about her and in the end he told me he sent us his well wishes and would pray for her. I've gotten those words a lot lately and it's nice to hear but you know it's kinda just words now. (Not trying to sound bad) I then told him I'd return the next day prior to leaving town. The next day came and we went and he recognized my daughter and I and stopped to tell us he had made some candles with the yellow ribbon and I picked up the candle and one side read HOPE and the other read LOVE and in between each word a ribbon. All in yellow. I got really choked up and now a days that's hard to do. To see that we made someone realize that our kids are fighting big battles and they're worth to be talked about to give awareness and to know we touched someone enough to really think about our girl and all the kid fighters just yanked my heart. I never got a chance to tell the guy how much it meant to me and how much he meant to me in that moment because the waterworks would have been overwhelming. But sir if you read this know that I'm forever touched and grateful for your beautiful heart and you must be a great person, my family wishes you well! read more

I love the candling process...the whittling...and color schemes. I love this place! The colors and designs of the candles are amazing! Each candle is handmade and made on-site. The figurines for the candles brings out the uniqueness. Some of my favorite figurines are the polar bear in the igloo, penguins, and seals. You can bring the candle to the light to see what the color will be when the candle is lit. The best part about the candle is that you can replace the candle with a tealight candle. The hole is large enough to be replaced easily. Therefore, you never have to throw away the pretty candle. The candle maker was very nice and inviting to her store. Credit card is accepted. Prices are $10 for a small candle and $20 for a medium sized candle. Yeah I know, you've been into plenty of candle stores, but you have probably never seen anything like the handmade wares at Global Candle! All are handcrafted circles, with layers of colors and intricate handcarved designs (you'll be able to watch a candlemaker working as you shop). They have hundreds already made in a couple of sizes, and so many different designs to suit every personality - love hearts & doves, love palm trees & beaches, love skeletons and swords? They will take care of you! Candles can also be commissioned, I was there in late September and a few Dia de Los Muertos designs were being worked on. They can also carve names and dates, so you can personalize your heart out! Along with the personalization, the appeal of these candles is their layered design: as you light the wick, color glows from within and the design becomes multi-dimensional. And once the wick has burned down, they are still usable as tealight holders! There are several lights installed around the store that they encourage you to hold the candles up to, to get a preview of the nifty design effect. The larger size candles are $25-$30, very reasonable for a unique and handmade beauty! read more

First thing to note about the Global Candle Gallery is that the location of the store has moved to a larger spot; it is now on the same side of Cannery Row as Bubba Gump. Now that I have noted that, let's move on... I learned about this store from a friend. They have really amazing hand-crafted candles that glow beautifully when put under a light, or obviously when they're lit. There are basically two sizes of candles. I can't remember the size of the smaller candles, but the larger ones come out to just under $25, including tax. There are tons of designs, including lots of seashells, flowers, animals, and, well, basically something for everyone. The cool thing is that once the wick has burned, you can put in a tea light and the candle's art can be preserved so it's a good buy. Great gift idea! The guy working was very helpful and friendly. Wow! These guys were really amazing. They had a bunch of candles (that they make in store), and also the ability to have a custom made candle! It's $25 for a big candle, and $35 for a custom made one if they can't resell it in the store (Having someone's name on it, etc) We bought two candles here, and they were amazing! Really wanted Pooh's honey pot, and they excitedly helped us design and make it, and it was ready super fast! (Like an hour and a half!) We got a custom candle made... not 100% happy at all. The guy charged us almost 50 bucks and didn't even let us customize the candle like we wanted. He only made a design on 1 side of the candle, when we asked him to create just lines or something simple on the other side so that it doesn't just look like a plain white candle - he refused. So he made a design on half the candle and the other half is just plain white. Waste of money. And he was rude from the very beginning. read more

Ahh OBSESSED. I'm so glad I stumbled upon this place while in Monterey! I'm a candle fanatic so of course I had to stop in, but I didn't realize how special these candles were at first glance. They carve these intricate designs on the outside and are colored on the inside. This place has everything you can imagine... Palm trees, hearts, roses, swirly patterns, animals, even clown faces. The face designs creeped me out, but the rest were so cool. It was so hard to decide which was my favorite! Pretty much every design came in different colors too. The employees said you get the effect of how it will look while burning if you hold them under the light. So fun! I ended up choosing a red/ orange one with a swirl pattern. I can't wait to burn it at home!! The only thing is I'm not sure if it will have a scent. If it doesn't though, the look of it is enough for me! I was also told that once you burn it down a few inches, you can put a tea light candle inside which makes it last so much longer! P.S. The price is right! I was expecting these to cost an arm and a leg, especially since it's in such a touristy area... But every candle is $25! So worth the quality and unique factor! read more

Not worth it if you want a candle that stays lit. Can't believe I spent 25$ on this. I was so excited to light my candle when coming home. I lit the wick and watched it burn all for about less than a minute when the candle wick burned down and the candle didn't stay lit. Highly disappointed. I came in on Saturday saw the candle. Drove all the way back on Sunday only to come home with a candle that doesn't work. I love the art work so much I came back to buy it the next day only to waste 25$ on a ball of wax I can shine a flash light through. I'm so disappointed writing this while I lay in bed trying to relax. Was trying to relax with my new candle and am more mad now than ever. read more

If I could give 10 stars I would! My family and I came to Monterey on a short weekend vacation, and while perusing the tourist shops we ran into this slyly hidden gem. The candles were beautiful and I was instantly taken with the art and care put into each one. Each candle is made individually so no candle is the same, and the candles are made right there in the tiny shop, so you can see the candle artist hard at work while at the same time making conversation with the customers and answering any questions, which I had a lot of. The people inside alone are worth the 10 stars, but the candles themselves are truly the stars of their own show. I purchased two candles there on the first day, and before leaving I made sure to stop again because I just could not get that shop out of my head, and again I had a wonderful experience. The employees were so gosh darn friendly and the candles are so amazing it's hard to walk away with just one so I came out of there with three! 10/10. Came by here for the first time roughly two weeks ago and I was on a mission for my boss to get around 9 custom candles. I brought them photos, and explained what the candles would be for and although the photos were extremely detailed, they brought the images to life in such a unique and personalized way. They stayed in touch with us throughout the entire process of making each candle and we had them shipped to the office within a week. They turned out so special. I wouldn't go to any other candle shop! You'll be blown away by their customer service and willingness to help with whatever you're looking for. This place is amazing! Not only do they make beautiful and unique candles, the candles also glow when you light them! All candles in the store at $25 plus tax but you can get a custom made candle, as intricate as you want, for $35. I love this place for unique gifts. I have bought basic candles that they have on the shelf like one that said 'Monterey' on it with pink and purple glowing colors. But I also had a custom made candle done for my mother that turned out beautifully. It was pink, purple, and blue glowing with a white glass shell and one side had a dolphin and the other side said mom with a flower under it. It turned out much better than I could have ever expected it and it's such a unique and meaningful gift that shows you really care about the person who you are giving it too for an even better price. read more
