    Tomato soup - seriously?
    Victoria B.

I ordered the soup to go while staying at the Doubletree (where the restaurant is located). It's supposed to be presented with a swirl of basil cream and topped with fried arugula. Instead, I got a plastic container (hello toxic emissions, that thing is NOT intended for hot food) with soup blopped in it that looked like it had been pulled out of the freezer. To add insult to injury, the cutlery packet included in the bag (fork, knife, napkin, salt, pepper... um... it's kind of missing something important for the consumption of SOUP... the pack had been opened and the spoon removed, then I guess they threw the opened pack back in with the rest of the packs. Lucky me). The soup was just under $10, so plus tax & tip it wound up close to $15. I had to drink it from the plastic container because I was not, after a 12 hour journey, trudging back downstairs to get myself a damn spoon. And I asked for a roll or a slice of bread... and got a couple of packets of stale crackers. Really, really unimpressed.

Globe Tavern is located in the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Hotel. It is a beautifully decorated bar/restaurant with seven televisions. I will go by my standard criteria so it's easy for people to understand why I gave this place four stars. Atmosphere: Very quiet, ambience is perfect for a small bar restaurant located in a hotel. There are seven televisions located in the bar. The only problem is four are on one wall and three are on the other side of the tavern 25 feet on the other side of the bar. The restaurant/bar is shaped in a rectangular fashion so it is very difficult to watch any television from the bar itself. But, if you're sitting at a table having a bite to eat it is very easy. If you want you simply ask the bartender. At that time, it was Kathleen who was fantastic and she will simply change the channel for you. Beautiful decor, wonderful staff, wonderful music that is played, and all-around great bar/Restaurant, but very expensive. Food: I had a 12 ounce New York strip with a side of broccoli and a Michelob ultra light. It was fantastic. The steak had blue cheese melted on top of it. The broccoli was cooked to perfection. My mother had what seemed to me to be a BLT it was incredible in portions and she loved it. The Pinot Grigio wine she drank she said was fantastic. But, once again the food is extremely expensive. Service: Kathleen was fantastic. She was a great bartender. Was very informative about the local area and places we needed to go look at. Such as Lincoln's tomb, the Abraham Lincoln Museum and of course Abraham Lincoln's home. I would give Kathleen five stars. The only reason I gave this place four stars. It's because I could not give it four and a half stars. It is very steep in price on the food. The menu is very limited. Other than that I found this to be a fantastic little tavern to have a beer and watch a little sports to relax after a long day of walking around downtown Springfield, Illinois checking out all the wonderful sites of the area. Everything can be simply billed to your room. I would recommend the Globe Tavern to anyone who is staying at the hotel or close by for a fantastic Steak.

I was neither impressed nor unimpressed with this bar. The bartender was friendly but not overly so. The menu was decent, but they were out of many things. For example, the dish I ordered was supposed to come with brussel sprouts, I was informed it would instead come with asparagus, and I ended up with green beans with no explanation as to why. They also ran out of to-go boxes while I was there. I found this to be very interested for a bar/restaurant in a hotel. I suppose the guests who wanted to take food to go back up to their rooms had to splurge for room service. Regarding the decor, it does have many TVs, as advertised on their website, but they are very small and on the far walls. It would be difficult to sit at the bar and see the score of any sporting event. On the plus side, the bar stools had nice comfy backs on them. I would say this is a good place to go if you're staying in the Abe Lincoln Hotel, the weather is bad, and you don't care what's on the TV. Otherwise, I would recommend guests venture out to bigger and better bars.

    So far nice quaint atmosphere

The in house menu does not match the online menu, but we both enjoyed our sushi rolls. So you walk in and upon approaching you can't miss the beer garden. If it wasn't so windy that day it would have been a perfect dine outside situation. But because of the wind we got a booth inside. In the middle of the floor is bar height tables a chairs, booths along one side of the room. The booths are only on one side because the other side is a beer wall. That's right, I said a beer wall. A wall full of taps. You get a swipe card and it charges your swipe card by the ounce. I don't drink beer but my friend appeared to be really happy with the selection. Because she couldn't pick just one, she made herself a flight. That's right, you can make your own beer flight from the beer wall. So for you beer drinkers I imagine this west side establishment is a hidden gem. I'd definitely come here again, with spouses and adult children in tow. There was fun food, good drinks and some entertainment. And not just karaoke either. We played name that tune. There was a prize at the end but we didn't stay long enough to see the winner. Well, we also didn't play competitively enough to be the winner either. But we had a great time and for a fair price. So, let it be said...I give this place 2thumbs up and definitely give it my seal of approval.

October 30, 2025. I'm so sorry to write a negative review; I really don't like to complain,…read moreBUT... I had picked LONG 9 for lunch for a monthly lunch meeting with friends as I'd been there 4 years ago and the restaurant was quiet and comfortable and lunch was good. It's still a lovely, quiet restaurant and so nice to be able to hear a conversation....but the food today was horrible!! The waitress was personable and friendly. I ordered the small plate French Dip sliders. I should have refused what came. Menu says "sliced sirloin, carmelized onions...." What I got looked like the scrapings of hamburger bits from a too-hot grill (in fact, perhaps it was, as my friend ordered a burger and it was burnt). The meat scrapings were on 3 Hawaiian rolls with a smattering of grilled onions and cheese to hide it. A bowl of au jus came with it. I did manage to consume some by dipping it in the au jus but that was very salty and I lost my appetite quickly. What a disappointment! One of my friends ordered a hamburger (came with lots of fries); the burger was burnt but she ate parts of it. My other friend ordered salad (it was ok) and soup d'jour. The soup finally arrived 10 minutes after our meal and tasted canned. Her breadstick was hard and inedible in the middle--obviously stale and nuked. Awful! I can't begin to say how disappointed we all were. We left our waitress good tips because it was not her fault. She did offer to bring us something else to eat. We should have taken her up on the offer. Perhaps the "cook" could have made us decent sandwiches to take home? What a disappointment. We'd give it a negative star rating and we are not picky people. I sure would love to hear back from a manager about this!
