Have to give this a single star. We arrived a bit after 8 pm on Saturday night. We sat at a high top in the bar & began to look at the menus that were on the table. The hostess came over and let us know that the kitchen was closed! Seems awfully early to close it down on a Saturday night and not indicate that anywhere. What a cool restaurant and bar in Springfield. I really enjoyed our lunch here. Their happy hour board mentioned an appetizer "Lincoln Logs" (bwaaa haa haaar!) but it is not on the regular menu. We ordered them and were a bit surprised to see how large these logs were. They are enormous fried monterey jack cheese sticks. Mmmmmm! They were good, served with a side of ranch. The service is fast and friendly, I think our server was named Quinn. She was very good. My brother and I shared the grilled fish tacos and the shrimp tacos, both of which were very tasty. I liked the shrimp tacos a little bit better, not sure why but I liked the presentation and the fillings. Our friend got a pulled pork sandwich with fries and she enjoyed it. The bar area is dark mostly because of the wood and has some charm. I loved that they had a Touch Tunes jukebox so we had fun playing our favorite songs and torturing the other guests with our 80s music. Had their famous original horseshoe - burger on one slice of Texas toast, smothered in a wonderful cheese sauce. came to the area on the way to St. Louis from Peoria for our little weekend roadtrip. We were between here and another place because we wanted to try the city famous "horseshoe". We got the burger horseshoe with waffle fries and the queso on top of Texas toast. Each item was good on their own, but didn't add much to each other. We still enjoyed it though! We also got a Cobb salad which was probably the best salad we've had! The chicken was crunchy and it had the perfect balsamic dressing paired with it! Haven't been back to Boone's since it was Boone's Saloon a few years ago, and I understand it's under new management. It was good back then, and thankfully, it's still pretty good. We were in town for a swim meet and stopped by on a beautiful, sunny Saturday afternoon for lunch. There were 12 of us in our party, and we were seated out on the back patio. It looks like the new owners have given Boone's a bit of a facelift without losing the cool neighborhood pub vibe it always had. The menu seems to not have changed a whole lot either, which is also good. BYO Burgers, BYO Mac and Cheese, Horseshoes, Street Tacos and some nice salads... they've got a little something for everyone. Also, we were traveling with children, and although Boone's is definitely a corner bar, they welcomed our kiddos with no issues. Our server was fantastic. We arrived with 12 people with no warning, and she couldn't have been more pleasant. She was super accommodating and even split the bill three ways with no issues. The back patio is partially shaded and features a great view of the state capitol. I built my own burger and it was delicious. Perfectly cooked to medium rare and definitely a hand packed patty. They had some great sauces and lots of options for toppings. I didn't get chance to snap a picture before I ate 1/2 of it. A few folks at our table had the street tacos, and they were also really good. Others decided to build your on Mac and cheese, and again, they said it was great. The water jar was not clean and also not covered. Politely requested them to change the water jar, the reaction from staff was rude on that request. Food : the menu has many items but the restaurant had barely any ingredients to cook them - no Naan to make any of the naan sandwiches No shrimp to make any of the sea food delicacy etc . Whatever was ordered on the table was all waste of money, we ended up eating fries and chips as the entree items were really bad Would never visit this place again nor recommend anyone to waste time money and peace of mind here. read more

My daughter got chicken strips and fries. The chicken was almost burnt when it was delivered. Should not have been served. The "grilled chicken" on the salad was boiled flavorless chicken. The homemade croutons are nothing more than white bread. Some seasonings go along way on food. $9 for a bloody mary with very warm toppings is a huge disappointment. Throw the garnishes on some ice or something. Limp warm celery is not a garnish and nobody wants warm cheese. If you want underwhelming food with zero flavor this is your place. read more

We stopped by for lunch Boons today and waited about eight minutes before someone acknowledged our presence. A male supervisor came up to us and I asked how many servers they had. I was on a tight lunch schedule and was trying to gauge if there was enough time to eat. His first response was "you're not going to find anyplace less busy right now." My wife agreed and I started to go in when he added, "frankly, I don't care if you eat here or not". It was completely out of line and disrespectful. I told him where he could go, and we left. I need you to close your eyes and imagine that friend or family member in your life, who fits this description: well-intentioned, disorganized, and apologetic. Basically, the less time you spend in their personal space, the better. Got your person? Good! Me too (wink). This person, will be referred to as Boone throughout the review. Boone really wants you to come over to his home; he reminds you that so many people have already been over to visit, just not you. Real scheduling conflicts come up, they turn into half truths, and move straight into the land of make believe. Anything. Anything to get out of going to Boone's house because we all know what's going to happen. Ugh. Boone was on his "A" game and somehow managed to walk you into a corner that you couldn't escape. Okay. Alright, you're going over. Maybe. Maybe he'll surprise you this time. Maybe his house will be tidy, maybe he'll respect your boundaries when you say you need to leave, and maybe you'll have a pleasant experience this time. Bahhhh! Nope. You show up, Boone is frantically trying to clean up the space so you have a place to sit. A corner of the couch appears and that seems to satisfy Boone's expectations of being an acceptable host. He talks, talks, talks, talks. You have to go to the bathroom but based on the "preview" of the living room, you don't want to see the "main event"in the bathroom. Cross the legs, settle in, throw out some controversial topics to see if Boone will cut the visit short. Nope. Your head is spinning, eye balls are floating (on account of the bathroom situation), and you have the impending feeling of needing to escape. Shifting your weight back and forth you find yourself perched on the couch, just as a bird who is about to take flight. Does Boone notice? Nope. You stay longer than you wanted, you feel agitated, and you're chastising yourself for allowing Boone home court privileges. Never again! No more!!!!!Phew. You made it through the visit, vowing to never return again. The End. Yes, this place felt like that little scenario I just painted for you in words. The staff was friendly but clearly overwhelmed. I'm pretty sure they knew we were coming, just like our host Boone. However, the appropriate adjustments were not made to ensure a pleasant experience for all. I'm not sure what is going on behind the scenes, I'm kind of done guessing and giving out the "benefit of the doubt" explanation. If there's a wait, that food better be hot, appealing, and fresh. My food did not hit those three categories. In fact, I'm sad to say that two of the three items in my meal tasted as though they were dug up from the very back of the freezer and served up. I've never had hash browns that tasted stale before. I'm not even sure how that's accomplished to be honest. Same thing with the toast, it was just plain bad. All that to say, if you have the right people in place (which seemed to be the case), you have to give them the proper tools to be successful. Please taste your food from time to time, to ensure it tastes great! You can dress up hash browns that aren't homemade! You can see that the pancakes aren't cooked through and they lack a golden brown hue. The same judgement you would use if you were feeding yourself can and should apply to what you feed the public. We had a party of seven and sat outside. It was not busy, and this was on a Saturday at 6:00 pm. That was a red flag. The service was subpar. We sat for 20 minutes before drink order was taken. Then another 15 minutes before the appetizers order was taken. We then ordered the entrees. I will only speak of mine. The others were not satisfied either. I ordered a simple bacon cheeseburger. The bun was stale and dry. The meat was lukewarm warm, and the flavor was simply bland. The drinks subpar as well. The mixed drinks, I would estimate has less than 2% alcohol. Very disappointed. Terrible. I ordered steak and eggs, and my son and mom ordered pancakes. How three plates came out and NONE of the food was hot, was beyond me. I've worked restaurants before and I know when food's been sitting out. The restaurant was at less than half capacity so throw the busy excuse out the window. Kitchen staff just being lazy. if you can't fulfill a basic expectation of hot food, but want $15-20 per person with tip, then you don't deserve to be in business. Came into Boone's to eat on Saturday morning after a Bachelorette party this weekend, with my friends. Service was quick! We were seated quickly and we got our much needed food and drinks promptly. Friendly staff, clean tables and comfortable dining space. Pancakes were nice and fluffy and the waffle fry/gravy combo satiated my hunger. We came in with a bigger group and things went well overall. There wasn't a ton of tables seated but we didn't arrive until 7 (and during the pandemic) when things might have died down a little bit. That said - of our fairly big group everything came out - though some orders took a little bit of extra time. We were told there was a new cook. The menu is a big confusing, but I had the gunslinger (a jalapeno burger) and my friend got a horseshoe. I think the menu could potentially use some pictures or a slightly better description for some items, but the horseshoe looked pretty delicious and comes covered in tasty white (or yellow) melty cheese. The burger was quite pretty and tasty enough. You can up-option to tasty waffle cut sweet potato fries for $2 on most orders (or free on the horseshoe). There was a decent beer selection for a local place, though the bar looked fully stocked with alcohol. Overall the server was friendly and pretty prompt considering the amount of orders at our table. Couldn't go out for Mother's Day last week so DH took me to brunch this morning. He picked out Boone's. The building is wonderful...the noise is LOUD...the server was prompt and attentive...the food was pretty good. I really wanted Eggs Benedict so was happy to see it on the menu. It was good but could use a little more ham and PLEASE poached eggs are not supposed to be like hard-boiled!! The hollandaise sauce is fabulous!! DH ordered the CYI Breakfast...basted eggs, crispy bacon, hash browns, and wheat toast. His toast was 1/2 slice that was barely toasted. What happened? Did the other half slide off the plate??? And, BTW, most places serve 2 pieces of toast, like 2 slices! I didn't care for the taste of the bacon but he liked it. He said the coffee was great, nice and strong. Being an overnight employee at a local hospital my coworkers and I always needed a place to unwind and eat good food after our shift. On the weekends boons opens at 8am for breakfast with a full open bar. I can not stress enough how good the food is and how amazing the prices are! Get some pancakes, skillets, biscuits and gravy and maybe a pitcher of mimosas! The staff is super friendly and the service is very fast. Amazing horseshoe and so much fun! Loved this place! The waitress was great, the food was awesome and trivia night was so much fun!

For pub style dining this is as close to a 5* you will get from me. Super chill atmosphere, great service and the food is really good (if you choose correctly). One of the major points for me going from 4* to 5* is can I order anything and be impressed? The answer here was no on two occasions. The first time through the salad I had was okay (the chicken on the salad was great, the rest was pretty bland). Next week I stopped on by again with my father and fiancee; she ordered a salad (was not impressed had some butt of the lettuce hard chunked in her salad) but he and I had the fish tacos with homemade chips and were blown away. The portion size of the tacos are enormous and have a great fresh flavor (instead of flour tortillas I wish I could option for corn) but besides that wonderful. We also ordered a basket of onion rings for the table and were not impressed; pretty sure they were cooked in oil that was not hot enough as the batter was overly oily and falling apart. Let me start by saying that I've gone to Boone's several times, I especially enjoy their brunch . However, all it takes is one bad apple to spoil the bunch ! Ordered the Carolina Hot Chicken Naanwich with breaded chicken . I noticed right away that there was very little breading on the outside and luckily there wasn't because the chicken wasn't done. I called and spoke with Mike the manager . Mike was condescending and rude with his response. "I've worked with this cook for 20 years and he knows what he's doing. Go ahead and eat the sandwich it'll be fine and I'll take care of you on your next visit." His response should've been ," I'm sorry you had that experience, bring it back and I'll take care of it for you." Needless to say there will be no more visits . This is not a dig at Boone's, it's about the crappy parking in downtown Springfield. I got there at about 4:45 pm. There is tons of parking but it is all posted permit parking only. Most of the Illinois government worker bees HAVE ALREADY GONE HOME FOR THE EVENING. Why can't I park in that lot for the evening. If my car is there at 1:00am, then it deserves to be towed. There is metered street parking, but I had no coins and I didn't see a credit card pay terminal. This might be the best food and service in the city, but because of the city I'll never know. Boone's should work with parking lot folks and work out a deal. read more

Last night we held our high school class reunion mixer in the beautiful beer garden at Boone's. From the initial making of the arrangements, through the end of the evening (hosting well over 100 guests) Mike and Sabir were so easy to work with, and so very accommodating. We got a $25 credit here when we bought a package at the State House Inn. Being suckers for a deal, we walked on over. It's about a half mile away which is nothing for us. They were having a private party inside (a wedding?!) so we sat outside... which turned out to be a pain because it started raining. Luckily there was available covered tables for us to move to. We got a couple appetizers, the Bull Bites and the stuffed pickles. I thought that Bull Bites were ok but the pickles were AMAZING. I'd order that again in a heartbeat. When in Rome... so I got a Horseshoe. It was a burger one and it was very good. No complaints here. My kids got a horseshoe and a kids mac and cheese. They loved it. Our friends enjoyed their food as well. We were drinking wine and they had reasonably priced bottles. My husband enjoyed the beer selection. Our server was super nice and very attentive.
