Globus books is one of those beautifully independent bookstores that you're glad you stumbled upon. I walked in not knowing it was a Russian bookstore and still had a pleasant time there. The very nice Russian lady (who I assume is the owner) talked with me about the bookstore and was very welcoming. She knew I didn't know any Russian and probably wouldn't buy anything but she still walked me through the different kinds of books that were available. (Surprisingly, there were a good amount of very random English books.) Though I didn't understand Russian, I found the art books very interesting and admired the thorough collection that was available. Needless to say, it was quite an adventure, stumbling across a place I have never heard or known about. I would suggest visiting at least once and then telling all your Russian friends about it!

I love this local Russian book store. Every time I stop by I leave with a children's book for my daughter. They have great selection of kids new books (something what I usually order from online stores from Russia). Customer service is great, they also ordered for me a couple of Russian kid's books which they did not had in store and I could not find online.

The Russian community in SF is significant, but not sprawling - so I didn't expect to find a very good Russian bookstore here. Was I ever wrong - this place is packed floor to ceiling with gorgeous Russian books. No cheap paperbacks - glossy atlases, cookbooks, bizarre poetry, dictionaries, gardening, travel, history, modern fiction, and an incredible children's section. I found translations of english books like harry potter, winnie the pooh, LOR, as well as Russian fairy tales and novels This place has weird hours because of the niche market, and it's closed off with a locked gate (you have to ring a doorbell to be let in). But the women who run/own the place are incredibly warm and helpful, and will help you navigate the shelves or let you browse if that's your thing. I'm studying Russian and found a great section on the language - textbooks, picture dictionaries, and workbooks from the perspective of an English or Russian student. The books are very reasonably priced, and you can get a deal if you buy several things.

A very good selection of children's books in Russian. And I had to rush out due to a cranky baby. Will be back!

Pretty good selection of Russian books. The only negative thing is that parking can be challenging.

With every twist and turn, another staircase or room appears, filled with books and entirely new worlds to discover. It always brings me back to the days I spent with my grandmother at our old library. We would sit together on the stairs and read to each other, completely content to spend hours surrounded by books. I think that's part of why City Lights feels so special to me--it brings back that same sense of curiosity, comfort, and excitement I felt with her. I rarely come here looking for one specific thing. The fun is wandering the shelves until a cover, title, or completely unexpected book catches my attention. Somehow I always leave with another story I can't wait to disappear into. There are bookstores you go to simply to buy a book, and then there are bookstores you experience. City Lights is the latter. It's a little piece of San Francisco that I hope never changes.

They spoke Japanese and received a Japanese education, so this bookstore always held a special meaning for them. The store carries a wide selection of Japanese books, magazines, Reader's Digest (Japanese edition), and manga. It also offers many adorable Japanese-style plush toys, collectibles, and accessories. You'll often see American teenagers who are passionate about Japanese anime and manga browsing here, which gives the bookstore a lively and welcoming atmosphere. I highly recommend this bookstore to anyone who loves Japanese culture, anime, manga, or simply wants to experience a little piece of Japan.

Like you see more Japanese writing on the walls and signs. They also have a much larger variety of magazines and books here. As with all bookstores, they do sell a lot of plushies and toys here. Saw a lot of Pusheen stuff. There's also a lower level that's dedicated entirely to Manga. And it looks like a pretty huge collection. So I would say this location is maybe 40% reading books, 40% Manga, toys, and gifts and 20% magazines. Or, you can come visit and check it out yourself. There's cute things here worth checking out.
