I left a review a few years ago, but I felt a time I should leave another one. I do shop there with some frequency from time to time and I love that store. It's very special! A hidden gem here in the city. The staff at Glover Park Ace are all so friendly. I'd have to say my favorite, however, is Frank. He's a jack of all trades and cuts great keys. They always work. This hardware store looks small from the outside, but tye moment you walk inside, you soon realize is actually quite large. At first glance, it looks as though that they have almost everything under the sun! I needed to make some keys for my new roommate, and sure as expected, there was a helpful employee who was ready to help me out. While I was taking care of that, I also remembered that I needed a can of wasp & hornet spray. I needed the type that you can spray from a distance. It wasn't cheap, but nothing in this store is inexpensive. Its the convenience factor here. The service that you get here is far superior to those big box hardware stores, where you could be waiting for an hour for someone to help. During my thirty minute visit, at least three employees asked me if I needed help. read more

The benefit of going to ACE over places like Home Depot used to be the customer service, sure as hell wasn't the prices (even with rewards). Sadly, now you can't even get that. Somehow they've packed up everything you would expect to find in any ace hardware...into about 1/4 of the size...but still things are ez to find and the staff is helpful. What you do sacrifice is maneuverability...but unless u need lumber it's mostly not an encumbrance. read more

Once upon a time I was a walking BuzzFeed stereotype of a college student and stopped by my local hardware store to buy some mason jars and a potted succulent arrangement. (This self-awareness is post-ironic.) But even if I hadn't been a clueless college student, it still would have been totally unacceptable for the bored, apathetic employee behind the register to charge me twice for the $5 succulent I ended up purchasing, especially since my meager transaction only included five items. But having been a clueless college student at the time, I only noticed the discrepancy on my receipt a few hours later and, of course, promptly lost the receipt that weekend in a collegiate lapse of judgment before I could go in and dispute the charge. However, I begrudgingly give Glover Park Hardware partial credit for at least having the decency to sell me a healthy succulent, as I managed to keep the succulent alive until it fell off the broken window AC unit in my decrepit hovel of a senior year house. You'd be much better off going to Home Depot instead. read more

I was walking down Wisconsin and I saw this hardware store with a wide selection of plants out front. I had been looking for a nursery nearby and yelp and google maps had been unable to help me. So I was surprised and delighted when I found this myself. As soon as I walked in the door the girl at the counter greeted me and asked if I needed any help finding anything. I informed her that I was just browsing and continued on my way. I was very impressed with the staff, I had three other different people ask me if I needed help while I was wandering around the store. I finally asked one of them if they had any wreaths besides the one I had found. Ask people if they have wreaths and they look at you like you are speaking another language. It must not be a word we use much in the English vocabulary. After I explained I wanted a wreath for my door they informed me they only had the one Christmas wreath on sale, 50% off. So I got it for only $18 rather than the $35. For a small little hardware store they have everything except groceries. They must employ at least ten people at a time and train them well, everywhere I went there was someone to help me. My only complaint was that the flowering plants they had outside had minimal to no flowers on them and looked a little dry/wilted. I think being out in the direct sun all day might be a little too much for them, or they are not getting enough water. Overall great store, I'm happy with my wreath and will be back again in the future. read more

Disbelieve all positive reviews for the ACE Hardware in Glover Park. The staff there is rude, unhelpful, incompetent and pay absolutely no attention to customer safety. This explains why today was my last shopping trip to the ACE Hardware in Glover Park. I was walking through one of the aisles in the ACE Hardware in Glover Park and was looking at items on a shelf when I suddenly tripped and fell to the floor: the staff left several thick and heavy sealed cardboard boxes scattered right on the floor. A store employee came to see what had happened and when she saw me rising from the floor she then promptly lost all interest. The employee "apologized" in an insincere manner and was offended when I criticized her and the store for leaving boxes scattered on the floor for customers to trip on, claiming that she was not the employee responsible. Although I haven't encountered scattered boxes previously in the in the ACE Hardware in Glover Park, the staff there does place too much merchandise in the aisles: they are totally incompetent and rude and cannot properly run the store. Placing heavy sealed cardboard boxes on the store floor for customers to trip on is absolutely the dumbest thing store employees can do: Washington, DC store employees can be among the worst, but I have never encountered such flagrant incompetence in a store in this city before today. The Yelp reviewers posting here leaving all of those five-star reviews probably have never shopped often in the ACE Hardware in Glover Park or spent much time in the store when shopping there. All of the Washington, DC area ACE Hardware stores are poorly staffed and managed, but the Glover Park location is the very worst and has been getting worse since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic: they are unable to deal with more customer demand. For your own safety and sanity, please avoid the ACE Hardware in Glover Park! You will find Lowe's or the Home Depot to be a safer, saner, and more courteous environment! read more

Especially from Frank Hughes, who took the time today to find exactly the stem valve I needed for an ancient hose outlet. It took me only one visit with a small purchase after speaking to one of the store managers (Nohie) when I realized that, this is the one I wanted to continue my hardware shopping, in compare to other hardware stored near or away from my residence. Always staffed with happy helpful people who know lots - even when to tell you that they don't know, which is rare, but then they'll go and find someone who does know... and they have water for the doggie, too! This is a business that feels and acts like a neighbor. I've come here for those cool personalized keys with happy faces on them, pipes (from which to hang my curtains), gardening supplies for the public garden I was kicked out of for not weeding, paint, cable splitters, and for the 11 cent nut that holds the toilet in place. My friends gave me a lot of grief about insisting on a trip to Glover Park Hardware. Why do we have to go all the way to Glover Park, they asked. Truth be told, I hate hardware stores, and I figured I might as well go to the best rated one if I have to engage in hardware shopping. And let me say, there's a reason Glover Park Hardware has so many stars -- unlike, let's say, Home Depot where you'll spend hours wandering around hoping someone will pop out and say "can I help you?" the staff at Glover Park Hardware (GPH) is always accessible, and always willing to help. No matter what it is you're looking for, the store has it, and the staff knows where it's located. There's never a long line for checkout, the cashiers are always superfriendly (shout out to the one who offered me suggestions on how to best remove my old Massachusetts inspection stickers from my windshield), and the entire place just seems to run efficiently and smoothly. read more

It's really true. The great thing about this string of hardware stores is the customer service. They employ some of the nicest and most helpful people in the industry. I work a few doors down, so I've come in a couple times for random things. When I first started at my job, I had to have a key made for the office, and it was done quickly and of course professionally. There was one time that I came in needing a new watch battery. I thought they might be able to help me out, but an employee told me that they sold watch batteries, but didn't have the tools to change it for me. But that certainly didn't stop him from whipping out a small screwdriver and trying to pry it open for a couple minutes. He seemed so disappointed that he couldn't help me when he couldn't get it open. I like that they actually care! They also have some great looking flowers outside - I may have to get some when I've got a chance so I can spruce up my patio! read more

When I became the proud of owner of a co op on Wisconsin Avenue, I knew I would have to make regular trips to a hardware stores to up keep my new home. I've heard the horror stories about making several failed trips to hardware stores but that is not the case with Ace Hardware store in Glover Park. This store is just fabulous but what makes me write this 5 Star review is its people and their excellent customer service. Three weeks ago, I had to replace a kitchen light bulb and cover, and Drea spent almost 30 minutes with me to make sure I was not only satisfied but taught me what to look for in the future. When the cover came, it was two inches too small but not a problem...Drea continued to persevere for another 30 minutes and found a quality cover that fits and looks better than ever. Just a little FYI, I originally went to a light fixture store and they turned me away after having no idea what I need after 5 minutes. So, if this review hasn't influenced you to go Ace, go now for your hardware needs and feel like a MVP and tell Drea I say hi :-). read more

This place is the best little hardware store EVER! A true testament to the spirit of small, independent businesses. They also let me bring my two Weimaraners in and give them treats every time I do. Any business that caters to my dogs definitely gets my vote. It's also sooooo nice that it's right in the city. You might pay a little more here than at Home Depot or Lowe's, but probably not, once you consider how much you saved in gas by not having to drive out to the 'burbs. read more

I've never had problems finding anyone to help answer my inane questions like: "How do I hang a tremendously heavy picture on the wall of my rented apartment?" or: "If I were to possibly have ants in my living room, not saying that I do...but just imagine that I had an ant problem, how could I kill them?" I lived in Glover Park for a year and a half, and during that time this Ace Hardware store was just sort of part of the landscape. But after a highly unsuccessful visit to a Home Depot mega-store this afternoon, I returned to Glover Park Hardware and could finally really appreciate how good it is. As soon as I walked in, the guy at the register walkie-talkied the guy in the back of the store, who walked me right to the item I was looking for. Took less than 5 minutes to find what I needed. They were training a new employee who somehow made the computer system crash while he was ringing up my ShopVac. The situation could've turned into a real fiasco, but the manager handled it really well. I was out the door in no time. Neighborhood location. Fine selection. Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. As a serial home renovator, I have come to rely heavily on GP Hardware. I'll admit the biggest reason is convenience -- If I'm in the middle of a project and need nails, wire, pipe, or even a tool, I can run down here and be back on the project in no time. They provide free parking behind the store, and there's rarely a wait for check out. But they also have a decent selection of real hardware supplies -- obviously there are some things that you just have to go to Home Depot for, but for many items, a quick trip to GP Hardware will get the job done. The DC Home Depot is miserable experience -- most times it's hard to even find a shopping cart with all four wheels working. GP Hardware, on the other hand, is well organized, friendly and helpful. Yes, you will pay a slight premium over the big box stores -- but it is well worth it for the convenience and to support a great local business. read more

I think my confusion upon walking into a hardware store all alone was written all over my face when I entered GP hardware, because a sales associate came up to me in a blink of an eye to ask if I needed assistance. Yes, I did, because I still can't fathom why there are so many types of screws and what the differences amongst them are. That said, the employee helped me find the right screws for my curtain rods and a couple other items. My boyfriend seemed to think that I could get the same products at Home Depot or Lowes for less $$$, which almost knocked the rating down to a 4, but the sheer convenience of this place and the fact that they played SPICE GIRLS over the speakers while I shopped keeps this rating at a solid 5. read more

This is a great neighborhood hardware store with a huge variety and very friendly sales people. The store is well organized and items on the shelves are clearly labeled. While there's always a temptation to run to Home Depot to (possibly) save a few dollars this store is much more convenient for a wide variety of items. I've visited several times and it's easy to get in and out quickly. Just one thing to be aware of. This store is below grade next to Bread & Soda and below Theodore's Furniture Store.
