Highly disappointed and do not recommend. I brought in two screens for replacement. Attendant thought about a week to replace. Two weeks later I called and response: this week - Thursday. After a month, called again: said screens were ready. Brought screens home and found one was not the right screen. Went back and observed as they fumbled around trying to find my screen. read more

The location is one of the smaller Ace Hardwares. They have about 4 or 5 spots right out front and then more parking across the street. Backing out of their main parking spots goes right into the street, so it's a bit difficult. You just have to be extra careful of oncoming vehicles. I picked up some items from an order I placed on their app. There was no line, the employee assisted me right away, and he saw I was in a camwalker boot, so he offered to assist me with loading really heavy soil into my vehicle. We came to this hardware store because it's located super close to our new home. We needed to get a couple of things for our first trip here. We needed to get some specific hardware to fix the garage door, as well as, a couple of brackets to fix some closet shelves, that we will eventually end-up replacing. They had a couple of things like planters that we didn't even think about. They also had some grills which got us thinking. We purchased two planters for some flowers we want to out out on our deck, and also the parts for the garage door. Someone did offer us help, but we managed to find what we were looking for on the first try. I love the convenience this hardware store has to offer. read more

Not being much of a hardware store person, I did not expect to be excited about going to the store, but it defies expectations. This is a very well curated hardware store with very friendly and helpful staff who are knowledgeable and efficient. The selection of greeting cards is small, but surprisingly funny and amusing. There are unexpected and well selected toys and handy everyday items that can be delightful for a trip to the beach or for a hike on a trail or even to a picnic in the park. I was able to replace the battery on my car key fob, and for good measure, I was able to replace another car key fob that had been broken for the past two years. All in the span of 10-15 minutes. This is probably at a fraction of the price I would've had to pay at the dealership. And there are well selected indoor plants and amaryllis bulbs for the holidays all at reasonable prices. What a TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE place for Customer service. I love supporting small businesses, but this place needs to urgently do something about their cashiers and customer service training. Let me just say that the Gentleman who oversees the grill department is very knowledgeable, and has a great attitude. But the guy who is upstairs, in the register, has no business dealing with customers. He is rude, is more interested in looking at his phone, has a lazy attitude, and doesn't really know anything. read more

As Bill's Tru Value, this was my favorite local hardware store. Knowledgeable staff, good selection. They just reorganized as Bill's Ace Hardware, and though the store is 'prettier', they now have all the usual brands, dropping some that were my go-to's, making it harder to shop for some. I could have lived without another Ace hardware store in northern VA and will miss the old Bill's. I'm sure it's a good Ace store, if that's what you're looking for, though. read more

When I was in town helping my Pawpaw with some renovations for the house, I stopped here on a whim to grab some tertiary supplies. Let me tell you, you do NOT get customer service like this at Home Depot, Lowes or even Ace. Not only was the staff super knowledgable, they were extremely pleasant, I believe the man who helped us was named Mark. I wish I lived in the area, because I would be stopping here all the time. As new homeowners, my husband and I are frequently at this hardware store, and last night was no exception. In the rain/sleet/snow, I trudged my 4 year old to the store with me to get parts for our bathroom, since our contractor was there trying to get some things done to make it functional again for us that evening. I picked out what I thought I needed, asked a question (and received a rather gruff response), paid, and left. When I got home, I had the wrong parts. So my contractor sent me back (so he could keep working, since we desperately wanted to have our toilet and sink working again!) with instructions. I bundled up the 4 year old again, and this time I asked the same rude man (who was sitting by the front door) for assistance with picking the correct pieces. One of the pieces I was unsure of the size, so I texted my contractor while we were standing there. This is when the man said that "no offense" but this is why we don't like it when the workman sends someone like you who doesn't know what they need and wastes my time. Um, I was the ONLY CUSTOMER IN THE STORE. On both trips! My contractor texted me back and I purchased my items, but I was so offended by his rudeness, I refuse to return. I'm sorry if waiting for a few minutes was a waste of his time, but I actually think it's his job to help me find the parts I need! My contractor ended up going to the same place about 90 minutes later. While he was looking for the part he needed, the same man came over and threw him out of the store, saying that they were closing and he needed to leave. Since he was unable to purchase the part he needed due to this, my sink was still not functioning last night. I'm all about supporting local and small businesses, but this one has lost all of my business moving forward - a shame for them, since we have been there routinely on weekends for the past 6 months! I'll be going to Cherrydale Hardware from now on (or Home Depot, if needed!). If the owner reads this, I would strongly encourage you to talk about customer service with your staff. read more

Why did I ever used to go to Home Depot???? I have gone to Bill's True Value 4 times over the last 2-3 months - each time looking for something that I would usually head to Home Depot for. Usually I would drop in because i would be driving by Lee Hwy and I would assume that they wouldn't have the piece. Ha - who was I kidding - they had what I was looking for every time. here are the good parts 1. easy parking 2. Much shorter drive from Ballston to Bill's than Home Depot 3. Prices are fine 4. Selection is smaller...but they always have what I'm looking for (seriously - do I need 14 different versions of the same 9 in 1 screw driver) 5. This is my hardware store of choice. While much smaller than a home megastore, I have yet to go there and not find what I wanted. Typical experience was this Sunday: I roll in with a burned out specialty lighbulb from my range hood. I am met at the door by someone who asks if he can help me find something. I show him the lightbulb, he immediately takes me to an aisle, helps me find the exact match, and then walks me back up front and rings me up. In and out in about four minutes. I've purchased plenty of home maintenance supplies there, lightbulbs, HVAC filters, caulk, fasteners, tools, etc. They are also a weber dealer so they have grills, propane, and hardwood charcoal. I can't recommend this place enough. A polar opposite of the frustrating Lowes/Home Depot experience. read more

They've generally had what I needed, but their stock isn't that broad nor that deep. Somehow, Cherrydale hardward, which seems to be a much smaller store, has a much more comprehensive selection. Bill's is fairly close to my house and I often pass it on my way home, so I'll stop in if I need something. But, if I'm looking for a wider selection, I'll head to Ayers or Cherrydale Hardware first. read more

Each time I go, there is a real-talk salesperson there to assist (including finding the right item(s) for my needs, pointing me toward the best deal, alerting me to their very generous return policies (I bought a big clay indoor planter and was told I could return it if I didn't like it even if I'd used it) and sales, and even helping me schlep stuff to my car.) I was in the market for a natural gas grill. After lots of looking around a researching mostly on Amazon I found the grill best suited for my needs with free white glove assembly and delivery. The Weber Summit II S-670 at a cost of $2600.00. I enjoy the convenience of Amazon, but in these occasions I like to work with local companies and providers if they can do the same service. I called Bills True Value in Arlington, as they were my local go to hardware store for many years when living in Clarendon. I spoke with Rod/Rad in the grill department and he informed me that hey did not carry that grill. But he did inform me that if I ordered online and selected their location they would receive the order and handle it from there. I stressed again the need for the free setup and delivery, since this was being purchased for a condo and I have a fiduciary responsibility to the residents to get the best possible deal I can. Rod/Rad replied absolutely it wouldn't be a problem at all. I ordered through true value online the same day Tuesday. The store locator came up with Bills True Value as the closet provider as well. Great! I was looking forward to the new grill being assembled and delivered in days as promised by Rod/Rad and Bills True Value team. Fast forward to Friday of this same week. Rod/Rad calls me and informs me that there is now a delivery charge because I am now deemed to far away from the store approx 10 miles. They wanted to charge me close to $100 to drop-off the grill. To which I respond, that's not what we discussed. Rod/Rad then proceed to tell me he needed manger approvals to make that decision. This was the first I was hearing deliver charges and manger approval. To be clear, I would have waited to hear the answer or just skipped the purchase with Bills True Value all together had this been brought to my attention. I asked Rod/Rad kindly to please have Bill call me to discuss the matter as it now sits. I heard nothing back, so I picked up the phone again the following week Wednesday. I spoke with Rich who identified himself as Rod/Rads manager. He told me that I had be informed upfront by his employee about the delivery charges, and I didn't have accurate recall of the conversation. There was no listening to me account of the sorry at all. Again I pointed out have a fiduciary responsibility I possess as a aboard member of my condo association. I clearly wouldn't have made the order if I could get the exact item for less somewhere else and have assembly/delivery/hookup a at no cost. I was "basically" called a liar. I asked again that "Bill" of the Bills True Value Store call me to work something out. On Thursday I received a call from Mark, who is Bills son. Still not Bill but who's checking for accuracy at this place. Marked followed some of the same lines as Rich, stopping short of also calling me liar to my face. But would "drop-off" the grill to the curb of the building and leave it. So dropping off a $2600.00 grill and the cover I ordered on the street curb was the solution. I asked if he could do that for free as I was promised, why was there an issue moving the grill an additional 30 feet to hook it up to the natural gas line. Mark, said take it or leave it. I expressed concern with having someone other than his team hook up the grill since that seemed careless and potentially dangerous. Mark simply said he did not care, and again called me a liar as nicely as one can. Needles to say, I still haven't spoken to Bill. I guess I won't be supporting a local store, and will be purchasing the grill from Amazon where it's written in black and white free assembly and hook-up. Look forward to working with a company that won't be calling me a liar, and one that wants to work through promises right or wrong an employee made to a customer. Outstanding experience this morning. Had been researching new grill and wondering what to do for Halloween candy chute. Their basement has grills all set up. They had the perfect one - ready to go. They also had precut 10 foot/4 inch pvc pipes for $20 - check that off my list. For $30 they deliver the already put together grill AND haul the old one away. I was in and out of that store in 20 minutes and the new grill was set up in my back yard within the hour - they even attached the old tank, etc... very qualified and friendly staff. They were very organized and had everything waiting when I arrived. Check out was quick and efficient. I have gone back a few times to buy odds and ends while fixing up my house. I even bought the wrong size items once and had no problems with an exchange the next day - even without a receipt.
