An AWESOME local !!!! I do lots of DIY house projects and have been going to Home Depot for supplies but this place has everything I need. Wish I had found sooner. Shovels, shelf brackets, on demand paint mixing, chains, garden supplies, you name it! It looks so given the size of the building from the outside it's amazing how much they packed inside and it's all organized very well. Staff here are quick to provide assistance for what you're looking for. I had what I needed within seconds of walking in thanks to a staff meeting who greeted me right away. On Sunday, 10/3/21 at 9:10 AM, because of previous poor customer service I received on Friday, 10/1/21 and on this occasion, I returned an item. I approached the counter and no one was behind it. The Proud Boy, redneck-type who was supposed to be there was in the aisle, and he yelled "What are you standing there for?". I said I wanted to make a return. He said, testily, "You can see me standing right here!!!" I said that no one was behind the counter. [How was I supposed to know that he worked behind the counter? He had no uniform or company badge--not even an apron.] The african on the stool made a flippant remark--again; he was the same guy who was there Friday. I was verbally abused twice, and I want an apology and some compensation in goods. Until then, I am going to DISrecommend this place to everyone I know. If you go in knowing roughly what you're looking for they'll help you find it and if you're not sure they're good at recommending something. I dunno where people are getting the super unprofessional or why someone described an employee as "proud boys redneck" that's pretty judgemental if you ask me, which they are not. If you go into a greek restaurant asking how their bruschetta is then they'll look at you like you're an idiot. The same applies to other places too...don't go into a hardware store asking for stuff that you wouldn't find in a hardware store. If I'm unsure then I ask and they say nope or yup, I don't feel like they're judging me at all. It's a hardware store, what level of professionalism are some of these people looking for? They're also not mind readers. If you go in with a plan and an idea of what you need, they can help you. If you go in and ask for random shit and don't give them any idea of what you're trying to do? Then yeah, they'll look at you like a nutjob and rightfully so! Some of these bad reviews I feel are more on the people than the employees cause I've never had a bad experience and I've been a customer since I was a kid. read more

I have lived in Maywood since 2007 and found the guys and gals of Cherrydale Hardware to be a valuable resource. Before moving here I would travel all the way out rt. 50 to the Home Depot. Now I would say I travel to HD once or twice a year, being able to support my local hardware store and get all of the little bits and bobbles I need. They are really friendly and smart about helping you solve your problems. They are always ready to lend a hand when searching through the thousands of items they have in their little store. Who knew buying lightbulbs during a pandemic would be so fun?! I wandered in looking at indoor spotlights. I was met by a kind, charming, laid back cashier and an inspired, energetic, knowledgeable and helpful floor guy. Luckily, the staff is very knowledgeable and always willing to help. I have always been able to find most of the standard items I am looking for. Unfortunately most of the employees who work here are not friendly, helpful or patient. I visited several times recently, as I was working on completing a small DIY project. Each time I went in I was asked by an employee if I needed help. Once I explained what I needed (or had a question about) I was treated and spoken to like I was a nuisance. The attitude of several of the different employees I spoke to (on different visits) was always as though I was bothering them-- it was very off putting. Each time I left feeling like I was annoying the staff, even when my requests were minimal. I try hard to support local businesses but after being made to feel so uncomfortable on three separate visits... I will not be back. read more

They always ask if you need help, are patient as you explain what you need, and are generally just friendly, helpful people. Convenient location. That's about the only positive. Most things are twice the price you'll find at Ayers Hardware in Westover, and the hours here are not meant for working people. The staff here is also very inconsistent about their friendliness. If you have an extra fifteen minutes, go to Ayers, where they're always friendly, selection is better, and prices are cheaper. read more

There are 2 reasons why I miss the Cherrydale/Maywood neighborhoods of Arlington. The first is the Italian Store and the second is Cherrydale Hardware. Honestly, you can drive 20 minutes to Falls Church and shop Home Depot, but why bother when you have a great hardware store with knowledgeable staff in your backyard? I used to go there all the time for minor home repair stuff (such as to refinished a small end table) and to pick up some stuff to get rid of my small ant issue. If you live in the neighborhood - or close I would shop at this store. The prices are comparable (some are even better) than the "big box" stores. Major bonus you can actually speak to someone about what your issue is and they will have a solution. read more

You can tell this hardware store has been around for a long long time. My husband and our roommate came here to get some jumper cables. Initially my husband thought he had some in his car, but after searching high and low to no avail. My roommate needed his car to be jumped since he had left a light on in his car that killed the battery. He left it on while he took off to South Africa for 3 weeks. When we walked in, we were immediately greeted by two people who pointed us in the direction of where to go to get what we needed. They were very nice, and offered further assistance if we needed it. My roommate thought that it would be a safe idea to get a fuel can just in case too. He acquired both at which both were reasonably priced. My husband bought some more jumper cables for his SUV as well. We were pleased with the quality of the products sold here at Cherrydale Hardware, and the customer service willingness to assist us with what we needed. My husband said he had been here a couple of other times previously. I am glad to see a local business that has flourished throughout the years and hope to see it withstand time for many years to come. read more

Great neighborhood hardware store. They seem to have the most random stuff and just chock full of anything you could need. I stopped by to get 3 keys copies (2 locks and a mail key) and they copied it within 5mins. While waiting, I was looking at their flashlight and battery section and noticed they had just about anything related to batteries and flashlights, from pen lights to regular torches to little keychain lights. Less than $5 later, I was on my way with 3 brand new keys that work flawlessly (unlike some places where the key is justttttt not right and requires some arm wrenching). Cherrydale Hardware has made my home improvement projects possible in a way no other store has. While home depot does have more stuff, I got really tired of the staff not knowing anything about what they carried, where it was, and how one would use it. Cherrydale is always swarming with helpful staff. If the guy you talk to doesn't have the advice you need, rather than feeding you BS they find someone else who does. Their creativity and knowledge is incredible, their helpfulness is shockingly and refreshingly good these days, and it's surprising how much they DO have in stock given their small size (and how good the prices are). When they don't have something they always know where else to try and still provide helpful details about what you'd need. There's also never any hassle about returning something that didn't work out or I didn't need (which is a bonus as I bike several miles to get there and sometimes get things I might need to avoid making 6 trips for a single project). Anyway, I could go on and on but you get the idea. I've never been to a hardware store anything like Cherrydale. read more

There has not been a single time when I have visited Cherrydale that I did not find exactly what I was looking for. Whether this was toilet tubing that needed different sized joins on the ends, or specialty screws, or a 5-gallon fuel drum after a recent storm/power outage, I always find what I need in a single visit. Why then, do I insist on going to Home Depot and similar stores first? I know Cherrydale will have it, but I doubt myself because of the small size of the store. But indeed, the size does not matter-they have it all. With good staff and good prices to boot. Do yourself a favor and don't doubt that the store will have it, because they will. In the time it will take you to get to Home Depot, find a parking spot, navigate the massive aisles, and wait for help at the "self"-checkout, you'd have bought what you needed and returned home with a stop at Cherrydale. read more

My history with Cherrydale Hardware Store goes way back... and I didn't even know it! So, my family in Alexandria has a huge, super retro set of light up plastic Christmas decorations, including Santa in a sleigh and a line of individual reindeer. A few feet in diameter for each piece, they are big enough to see from far away but small enough to string with some bungee cord along the front of your house, which we have done every year of my childhood through today. They never fail to dazzle the neighbors but at the same time I'm sure they would win "tackiest decorations" award if there was one. I love it. Little did I know, until I asked my mom about them one day, that our wonderful Santa and reindeer came from Cherrydale Hardware Store over 20 years ago. And we still have them! Intact and dutifully delighting passersby every year. Dang. Fast forward to today, I've since moved away but came back for a visit to discover that this place is still as quaint and friendly as it always has been. I came specifically to get keys cut after idiotically losing my sister's house keys the night before. The products were cool and the service was great. These guys are so nice, helpful and honest. The only problem was that after recutting the keys several times with different issues, they still didn't fit in the door. The final copies were "copies of a copy" which may have been the issue. Oh well... I gave up after two trips. Not their fault. Keys suck. Anyways, the store staff was more than willing to work with me price-wise even though they didn't even need to give me a discount or a refund. That's just how they are and it's great to find a friendly and honest local business amid all the money-grubbing big box stores today. It's also worth noting that they had at least 5 people working there when I came by - on a Sunday! Obviously customer service and keeping people happy is a priority. Awesome. If you live in Arlington or Northern VA in general, support this little retro gem and keep them in business for another 20 years! I hope to do the same when I'm back in town in the future. read more

For such a small store they do carry a big variety of stuff. The staff is always helpful and friendly. I go here first before trying the big-box stores. This is the kind of hardware store that used to be so much more common before the big-box era really got going in the 90's. There is staff here that can actually help you. I have been here numerous times for things Home Depot doesn't have (and vice versa of course, but I always check here first) and I am always pleased with my visit even when there is something they don't have (rare). read more

In addition to having an extremely helpful staff and just about everything you would need for basic home repairs, the Cherrydale store provides a much-needed break from the constantly increasing supply of big-box stores that crowd around the DC metro area like vultures, constantly picking at our collective carcass like we're freaking Prometheus over here! Word to the wise- as John B says, you'll pay a bit more, but for most of us, the extra money is TOTALLY WORTH IT. You will be in and out in no time, actually get that project done for a change and then be cleaned up in time to enjoy some home cooking that the wife/girlfriend/boyfriend should be rewarding you with for your efforts. read more

This place is awesome! I've definitely found my new hardware store and am so glad I never again have to brave Home Depot and its horde of condescending eye rolling employees again. I had a dog vs wood door situation that the dog clearly won, and needed to try and fix it before the new tenants moved into my apartment. After reading the reviews on Yelp, I headed over to Cherrydale and was immediately asked if I needed help. As an early 20's single girl who has always relied on apartment maintenance staff, yes, I definitely needed help. These guys were great- the first guy I asked wasn't sure what to recommend and went to get his manager for me, who knew exactly what to get. He was great in explaining to me exactly how to fix the problem, and I felt like the whole staff genuinely wanted to help. The best part was everything I needed cost less than $10, when I was considering hiring a handyman for much more. They saved me a ton of time and money. I love this place. The staff is very friendly and they carry everything I've ever needed for small projects around my home. Not sure if it would be good for someone running a contractor-type business but they really cater to homeowners and apartment dwellers. One benefit I love is that when you walk in, there are people waiting by the front register that will help find items for your or talk you through your problem to help with a resolution. Parking can be tough at times but there is street parking available on the side street. read more
