They're nice and the work is quality However the inconsistencies with pricing when you call and request pricing versus when you get in there, it's very problematic. I called last Thursday to get the pricing of how much it would be to touchup my perimeter braids on the phone. The young lady who said her name was FiFi stated it was $80 for bow hole knotless touchup the entire perimeter of my head. I get in there today and a woman who also claims her name is FiFi, but doesn't remember speaking to me states that it's 155 to redo the perimeter of my head stating l that only the front is $80. I tried to explain to her several times. That's not what I was told on the phone when I called I also explained what I was told on the phone and I stated that at this point it didn't matter because I had already taken my perimeter braids down so I had to pay for it regardless this woman goes back-and-forth with me about how there's no way that could've been stated and trying to discuss in-depth with me. What I paid on my previous appointment when I was there a month ago when when I was getting my hair done. She wasn't even there the whole day. I asked her twice if we can move forward I also asked her why she was discussing a hair appointment from a month ago. This woman wanted to argue with me about how she claimed to tell me the price, but doesn't remember the phone conversation The manager ended up getting involved and she gave me a discount 125 which is fine. I don't have a problem with the price of 155 I simply was explaining that wasn't what I was told the other one and men wanted to argue with me so bad about this even going so much just saying that she wasn't lying and I stated I never said that you were what I'm saying is I wasn't told. I also asked three times if I could just start my hair and not go back-and-forth with her, she made a scene in that salon and it was very rude and it was very unprofessional. The problem I have is when you call the prices are inconsistent. Then later on she told me it was gonna be an extra if I wanted four strands of bow hole left out versus three when the last time I was there and I paid 260 for my hair done that is the way that they did it. Three strands left out in the middle four on the top and no one charged me extra. Then she tells me that the Hair is extra cost again when I was there a month ago nobody stated here was extra cost nor did they pay so every time I go in here which is now twice the story is different at this point if you go, just make sure you get confirmed pricing. I'd also like to add that nobody in that shop after this whole ordeal said goodbye to me like they had said every other customer with the exception of the lady who was braiding my hair so when I left, it's pretty clear that they were all upset because I told that woman that she did not give me the correct pricing over the phone because she didn't. And I still end up paying $150 because I tipped my braider $30. Which was never my issue. My issue is the lack of consistency with pricing in the Rood nature in the ordeal. I went through while simply trying to get my hair done.

Service: Needs significant improvement. After checking Google and seeing that they are to be open until 8pm on a Saturday, I called on a Saturday afternoon to see if they had availability for a walk-in appt. No one answered the phone. Shortly after the no answer, a woman from the salon returned the call and asked how could she help me. I asked if they were available for a walk-in and she replied 'yes, you can come now'. I drove to the salon and there was only one male stylist working who was finishing up with someone else's hair. I waited a minute before he asked a woman who seemed to be an assistant to wash my hair. The woman was aggressive with my hair during the wash, didn't have proper temperature, and clearly needed training. The stylist informed me that it was her first day, yet she didn't have anyone training her nor did she speak good English. My visit ended around 5pm, but I waited for my husband to pick me up. 2 men (one being the stylist and another being a barber) started cleaning and sweeping so I asked what time they closed and the barber said 'don't worry we'll wait until you're picked up' failing to answer my question. When my husband picked me up, the stylist and assistant had left and the barber locked the door behind me immediately so I'm not sure what their hours of business are. I received a wash, blow dry, and flat iron for $50. Value: similar to previous owner. They even have the previous owners price chart still on the wall. Ambiance: very dull at the time I went. No music or tv on. Salon seemed messy and could use a deep cleaning. Only one stylist and one barber was available. What used to be a coat closet at the entrance of the salon is now a small room where Ethiopian garments are showcased and sold. The style was okay, but I would have preferred the former owner or stylists to do it because it always looked much better and they were more customer friendly. I wasn't aware that the salon had new management until I arrived. I tried them out, but I think I'll go elsewhere next time.

Bottom line is that I needed to find someone who actually knew what they were doing to help me through this journey. Most of the women I publicly admired were in fact wearing extensions or weaves or wigs or you know some sort of sew-in. I'm so glad I found Ann and her shop Not Just Hair. I had a job interview and I really wanted my short pixie afro to look nice and I wanted to color it and I knew I couldn't do it myself because I had already tried and it just turned red. The minute that Ann saw me she knew exactly what needed to be done and squared me away. I'm happy to post photos because I want you to see the difference! I was able to get highlights and products that allow my hair to look pretty nice with minimal effort. I simply had my barber shape my haircut to highlight Ann's amazing work. There was no long wait at Ann's place or parking issues (if you're familiar with Olde Towne Alexandria, time of day is everything). The women were British, American, and Nigerian. It was so positive. The energy, level of hard work being put into our hair because everyone had a different hair type was amazing. I'm embracing in lieu of chemically torturing myself. I was able to get an appointment within a week and the stylist Luis gave the option to have her wash her hair at home with shampoo and conditioner and arrive with wet hair or use the communal hair washing bowl. He assured that they clean it after every use, but it is about what my (elderly) mother was comfortable with. She elected to show up with wet hair. Writing this review based on her feedback, as I only dropper her off and picked her up. You are allowed to wait in the waiting area, with mask and chairs a spread out to comply social distancing. She reported that when you enter and before you get seated in your chair, they ask you to wash your hands. While you are washing your hands she observed that Luis was sanitizing the chair at his station and placed a fresh plastic covering on it. My mother was asked to remove the mask from the ear loops and hold it against her mouth and face. The tools were in the typical sanitizing fluid at the station. The stylist was wearing a mask the entire time. She felt save with the covid precautions taken. Sidenote: my mom is in the high-risk age category and has not really gone outside doing "normal" things since march. So this haircut was a treat but also only allowed thanks to the precautions PhD for Hair was doing. She said she will go back to get her hair colored.

I asked the questions I ask every Braider the price for the style, price for the lengths, and if HAIR IS INCLUDED. I was told the price would be between $250-$300 and hair was included. I decided to get the hair a little longer than waist. I got it where she stopped at the top of my behind. Isha did not have anyone help her, when I asked if she was going to have help she stated No, because it's been slow and she wanted to keep all the money. During the time she was braiding my hair after each pack of hair being used she would call out a number to show how many packs she used!! Also, while braiding she would take/make calls. One call in particular was a female whom she kept asking for advice about pricing. By the time she finished my hair whomever she inquired with told her $400. Then Isha kept saying things like it's so long, we started at 7:45, ohh idkk.. she just kept trying to make a justification to charge me more!! By the time she got off the phone and finally told me my price she stated $550!!!!!!!!! Wtf!! I have never in my life paid that much for some trash braids! The knots were huge, the parts were spread far apart like I had alopecia, and the braids were too big for my length of hair! Next she sat me down and began to try blow drying my hair without any heat protectant. I made her out hear protectant. She was not gentle and clearly did not care if she was ripping my hair out or not. After blow drying she tried flat ironing my hair. First the pieces she took were far too large then she blamed her inability to straighten my 4C hair on the fact my hair was too thick. This is not the truth my hair can get silky straight with proper technique which she did not have. To compensate she tried to flat iron each huge strand over 10 times during which I made her stop because she was giving me excessive heat damage without results. In the end she told me she did not have the proper tools to do the service so I was confused why she even took the appointment. Also during the entire appointment she spent time harassing me to zelle or cash app her despite the fact I had already paid her on style seat. I left there having wasted 80 dollars.
