Not in a bad way, but in that unmistakable health-food-store aroma that tells you there are herbs, oils, supplements, organic everything, and probably someone blending wheatgrass in the back with spiritual conviction. I walked in thinking I'd grab a couple of health bars or maybe a smoothie, and suddenly I found myself in what felt like a live-action documentary about modern hippie culture. Real hippies. I'm talking long dreads, natural fabrics, calm serene smiles, and an energy that says they own a crystal collection and know each crystal by name. The vibe inside was amazing. Everyone looked like they were on their own personal wellness quest, floating around the aisles with purpose, shopping carts full of things I didn't even know existed. I felt like I needed to level up spiritually just to stand near the kombucha section. And the café area had this cozy, earthy coolness to it that almost convinced me to sit down and contemplate the meaning of life over a smoothie bowl. The whole experience was wild in the best possible way. Grassroots Natural Market wasn't just a store that day. It was a full-on immersion into the hippie heart of Jacksonville, and honestly, it was fabulous.

The owners are passionate about their mission and so dang nice that you'll be on cloud nine after visiting the space. All of their food is organic and vegan; basically food that you can feel good about! No artificial preservatives, what you see is what you get. My recommendations are the Acai Berry Blast smoothie and the Bliss Bowl, which is spicy tofu deliciousness! I took my first ever yoga class at Fresh Jax. To be honest, I had no clue what I was in for. Afterwards, I felt as if I achieved nirvana. I felt calm and relaxed, almost to the point of a high-like state. For newbies like myself, Fresh Jax has my stamp of approval! Although, they do offer advanced classes for experienced yogis, too. Truly, an eye-opening experience. I attended their grand opening and was able to check out the store and studio that day. The yoga studio is huge and their entire staff was super friendly and helpful. They have a retail area with the products they've carried for years plus baked goods, juices, etc. They have some tables set up both inside and outside, too. The atmosphere is very cozy and comfortable. When I attended the grand opening, I was able to purchase 30 days of unlimited classes at a significantly discounted price. I live nearby and they offer a variety of classes so I jumped at the opportunity to check it out. I've taken yogalates and tabata so far and both were great. The instructors are super helpful and encouraging. Fresh Jax is such an asset to this part of town. I feel like places like this typically open out at the beach or in Riverside but I'm so glad we have this gem on the southside.

I had read about the 14 Carrot Gold Juice Bar located inside Weise Natural Food Shoppe on their website so wanting to have an excellent Saturday morning adventure, I drove over to check it all out. Holy Wow! Who knew this place existed? Well, apparently a ton of people because when I arrived, the parking lot was full of cars and people were coming in and out up until closing. I was greeted by a super nice lady named Sue and she asked me if I needed any help. I told her I wanted to get a fresh carrot juice so she pointed the way to the back. When I got there, an equally sweet lady named Lisa told me that I could have my carrot juice plain or with celery, garlic, parsley or ginger added or however way I wanted it. In addition, the juice bar offered organic fruit smoothies and healthy vegetarian sandwiches. I thought I had died and gone to HEAVEN! I opted for straight carrot juice and their curry "chicken" salad sandwich and then walked around the store to see all of the offerings. I have had a few issues recently with food having already gone bad once I've brought it home including some meat that already smelled rancid even before the best by date and a grab-and-go meal that had mold growing in it, so just try your best to check how things look as you're placing them in your cart (and most of the time, whoever has checked me out has been on top of checking the quality of my items for me too)- most things in Native Sun are fresh goods, so it's understandable that that type of thing can happen. And when I brought in the moldy item, they were super accommodating with letting me replace it, even without my receipt! Super appreciative that they care about their customers, the local community, and have just created such a lovely shopping environment that it actually makes grocery shopping enjoyable :)
