Putt Putt Van Winkle - The whole course is an exquisite labor of love.

This place is like a cross between Brigadoon and a Jimmy Buffet concert. It's as close to the…read moremiddle of nowhere as you can get in the Catskills -- it may be a half hour to get to another commercial establishment, and the only reason it was on the way to where we were going was we first decided to go on a more scenic route, and *then* we got lost. And then, poof! There it is! Announced with a National Park-style sign, a themed home-made labor of love based on the legends of Rip van Winkle. It is impossible, simply impossible, to get a more authentic and original and well-situated theme for a course. The holes themselves are homespun -- could use some maintenance and a few cases redesign -- but that is part of the charm. The fact that it's free to play makes it extremely difficult to complain about this aspect of it. The amenities are very relaxed -- a bar, coffee, and a souvenir shop which seemed to be staffed in an irregular rotation -- and I only regret we were there on such a busy day that it was hard to get the attention of any of the staff (staff? owners? auteurs?) I've never been to a mini-golf where you could sit in a chair in the middle of a roaring brook between holes. There's no cell phone service here, near as I can tell, which (a) may account for the low number of reviews, and (b) is a feature, IMHO. You can imagine the sense of isolation and wonder of the old Washington Irving tales from 200 years ago pretty easily without your magical screen functioning. Whatever mad genius thought this place up and keeps it open -- my old school tipped dutch hat is off to you, sir or madam. May you be here forever.

It's just as I remembered! Bonus addition, Voss' BBQ now has a location here too! Palm springs is a great mini golf course. Upon entry there is ample parking in a private lot. Walk down a short path to the Voss' BBQ order window. Just past that is a covered pavilion with ample picnic table seating. At the end of the path is the mini golf rental hut. Everything here is cash only, but there is an available ATM. The course itself is great fun for all ages. It has challenges, even for adults! There is gorgeous landscaping everywhere! You can really tell they put a lot into it. There are nice water features and a few places for photo ops including a giant Adirondack chair! There currently is no Par 3, but wondering if they eventually plan to reopen that too?! Everything is very clean, friendly staff, and very reasonable prices!

While the golf is cash only, there is an ATM on site, so you won't be left without a way to play. The staff is constantly cleaning around the course, so you're playing on immaculate turf, and surrounded by clean, green and shade. Highly recommended for all visitors to the area!
