Great space for dogs and their human companions. Easy access and parking. Benches and gazebo seating available.

They have water bowls, poop bags, toys and water pools for public use. There's only one dog there when I went on a Saturday afternoon. But the owner of the dog told me it's a great park and there's usually a lot of people during the weekdays around 4-5pm. I can't say this park is the cleanest I've ever been to but dogs like to play messy and my furry friend definitely had lots of fun today playing fetch and catch. read more

I'm leaving this review more for Capital Hills golf course that extends beyond this enclosed area and permits dogs off-leash after golf season closes (fall/winter) but there's no way to leave a review on the Golf Course page that would speak to people searching Yelp for dog parks. In a word: AWESOME. Rolling hills, some strikingly pretty lone wolf trees, trails carved through thicket brush, a creek, ponds, etc. Everyone I've met here is nice, dogs are so happy. You have to park at Martel's Restaurant/Golf Course area and you'll see where to go; tons of doggos running around. Since it's also open to x-c skiing, you have to observe not walking on groomed trails--and please do so they don't kick us out. On that note: please please pick up after your dogs. I try and grab random piles of poo when I'm here just to pay it forward. There are free bags on the post at the parking lot and trash cans along the paved foot trail. I've walked past this specific enclosed dog area many times (the one that is attached to the community garden). It is small but looks fine. It's at least nice that there will be a place close by that provides a great view and easy parking when winter is over and golf season starts back up. read more

Hands down my favorite dog park in the area. A good mix of dogs and responsible owners. I've never had a bad experience. Be wary of two ladies in a grey car with a black pit bull and grey spots. The community has experienced a couple incidents and had one dog get hurt as a result. Though since that incident, the police were called, the owners held accountable to pay for the surgery and medical bills. Since then, they have not returned. I took this as a positive in that this is how strong the dog owner community is here about enforcing good behavior and taking responsibility. The park is well maintained, has a gazebo and couple of park benches and picnic tables spread throughout. There are even a couple kid pools and water bowls that can be filled by a functional spigget/faucet. If gardening is your thing, the dog park abuts a community garden and during certain times of the year you can see all manner of vegetables and fruits like tomatoes and such. The park is also right next to the capital hills golf course. Which is open during the winter time for off leash walking when the regular park is tough to use/possibly closed (not sure on seasons and hours). read more

Hart Rd Dog Park is a decently clean, well managed park. Owners seem very friendly, and there are regularly dogs that come by. My dog Charlie loves running around. It is gated, has baby pools, toys, water and poop bags. Great place to take your pup. read more

Got on the city of albany's website and found that there are 4 dog parks in albany. I noticed the address is very close to hartman rd, so i started thinking maybe this listing is for the hartman rd dog park instead. Studied the map extensively and found that hartman rd is a short street, so i just put in a random address on the gps. Saw the community garden and read that it was right bext to the garden. It's smaller than the department services one, and maybe less nice. But all the doors are working. People here are not bad and dogs are food for the most part. Has water bowels and kiddie pools and a water source and some benches and a picnic table, a very dirty gazebo. Very buggy :/ read more

This is one of my favorite benefits of living in the city of Albany - they operate a few dog parks throughout the city. My favorite (and my dog's favorite, which is convenient) is the one on Hartman Road. Its just off New Scotland Rd, going towards Slingerlands if you're driving from Albany. The Hartman Road dog park is well-kept (the Dept of General Svcs mows the grass, empties the trash barrels and keeps the park clean) with a bench, picnic table and a new gazebo for sitting while your pups frolic, has bags for picking up after your dogs, and even has a water pump in the back corner for filling the puppy pool and water bowls (although I think the water might be turned off in the winter - we've been bringing jugs of water to fill the water bowls). There are trees for the dogs to run circles around (unlike the Erie Blvd Dog Park) and a bag of tennis balls donated by owners of dogs that visit. Best of all, its totally free (unlike some dog parks in the 'burbs) and the people that go there are genuinely caring dog owners - who else would go out of their way to make sure their doggie is enjoying his life? Its a delight bringing Sputnik there to play with the other pups. If you've got a dog that enjoys playing off leash with other dogs - bring him or her to the Hartman Road dog park.
