We decided to come to Gobblers Knob for Groundhog Day as we were staying semi close by at State College and the weather was going to cooperate. As we approached the turn off to the Knob, we were prevented from driving near there without a pass. The police just pointed us down the road. As we drove for a few minutes, it was clear to us that we should probably find a parking spot on our own. There was absolutely no signage or communication besides a lit up sign directing us to a local radio station for parking info. We tuned in only to listen to classic rock songs but no clarity on where to park. We drove around and found a spot not too far from what looked like to us what could be post Phil sighting festivities. We joined another group after asking how to get to the knob. There was much confusion on what to do and we ended up with a bigger group who all came to the conclusion that we needed to find where buses were picking up people to transport to see the groundhog. After finally finding the pickup location and paying $5 per person, we were driven to the infamous Gobblers Knob. And what a sight to behold! So many people, absurdly long lines for the port-a-Johns and a surprising lack of food and concessions. We were quite disappointed and underwhelmed. We smartly decided to hang back to wait for Phil to make his appearance but in doing so, we could barely hear what was going on let alone see anything. As soon as Phil indicated we would have an early spring, we quickly made our way back to the bus line and we were relieved that we did so because it became a mob scene of people hurrying to catch a bus. There were no designated lines with people rushing in and cutting. It was a nightmare! We do not understand why there couldn't be some small improvements that would have made the experience so much better. The lack of communication on where to park and how to get to the attraction is unacceptable. It would have been appreciated if there were some speakers at the event so that we could hear what was going on. Some jumbo screens would have been helpful as well. It really was such a let down and one of the worst tourist attractions we have ever experienced. Despite checking it off our bucket list, we have no need to ever come again or to recommend making the journey to Punxsutawney.

Groundhog Day is a day where you seek out this mythical mysterious creature that lives in the ground to ask him if he wants more winter or spring! This was a very fun and unique experience that was definitely fun to visit as it's just a totally random way to spend a cold cold morning in a huge crowd of people singing songs freezing and waiting for Phil to come out and tell you what you wanna hear! So they offered a few different ways to get here one was by bus and the other was to park and walk which is the way we choose to as we parked and walked about a mile or so mostly up hill in total darkness to the Knob we arrived about 3:30am and hangout and waited until it was time for Phil to do his thing! There really isn't too much here other than the stage so plan accordingly as you might wanna bring some food with you as it's a few hours to wait they do offer some concessions but it's very limited so definitely take care of you first. Dress warm too as it got quite cold standing here even though I was dancing around it was still cold they did have a fire but it was away from the stage so you have to leave your spot. Overall seeing Phil was totally worth it as who doesn't like a groundhog who knows when and if I'll ever get here again but if you find yourself in Pennsylvania in the beginning of February make the trek here because it's quite fun!

To continue your Groundhog Day tour, make sure you stop here. I didn't stop during festivities, but I wanted to see where the event happens and was here on a cloudy April day. There weren't any groundhogs in sight, including Phil. And Bill Murray wasn't there either. Gobblers Knob is off the beaten path and away from town. It is easy to get to if you use your phone or GPS. It took me about 10 minutes to go through everything; the stage area, read the various signs, and take pictures of the entrance. It was a really cool experience and I'm glad I went on a day that there wasn't anyone around. The inside of the tree stump that Phil comes out of to see his shadow still had hay in it for Phil. There is a trail for you to take if you are so inclined. I was not.

We loved visiting here and seeing where all of the groundhog festivities take place! We liked the section of souvenirs and the things they had inside. We also loved looking at the famous area itself! Definitely worth a visit!

Gobblers Knob boasts a large area with some agreeable amenities for an outdoor park. But guys, for a place that's the focal point of a major American cultural observance: it's time to do some landscaping on the arena, add some basic benches, or at mininum: mount some speakers on poles near the crest so people can actually engage with what's going on!

However, if you want to see Phil the groundhog, drive to the Punxsutawney Memorial Library about 2 miles away.

It's in the middle of nowhere in a huge field/farm area, in Saxonburg, PA so a far jaunt from Pittsburgh & about 40 minutes from Cranberry Twp. They had many parking volunteers dressed in period colonial clothing and parking was fast (free) and easy when we arrived at 11am. They opened at 10am. There were 3 entrance points so lines moved fairly quickly. There is a small senior discount. They should have let people with pre-purchased tickets skip the line but they had to wait too, which seemed to defeat the purpose of pre-purchasing (although they did get a discount). We paid $14 total for one adult & one senior. They had over lots and lots of vendors of all sorts as well as one aisle that was all foods. They had several kids crafts such a face painting, pumpkin painting, pony rides, forge your own mini sword. They have music, regiments marching, guys who know their history inside and out & will expand your knowledge. We spent about 2 hours exploring & really enjoyed it. It is held rain or shine, so in rain or after rain do wear boots because you WILL get muddy. They also have horse & carriage rides. If you enjoy craft fairs, colonial times & want to teach the kids some hands on history through live demonstrations I highly recommend it!
