The 1st piece I tried was obvious... A dark chocolate Carmel with a sprinkle of sea salt on top. Ooh, !!!! As I placed it on my tongue, The melting started immediately. Followed by my mouth watering as my brain reacted to the pure joy of the perfect combination of texture and taste of the Dark chocolate . Next came the savory salt that had secretly melted in to the chocolate. Last was the smooooth soft luscious caramel. Perfectly sized with the amount of chocolate and salt. This is the kind of Carmel you don't chew. It just sat in my mouth for few minutes and melted away like it was made to do. Leaving me amazed and satisfied, wondering why I had never had these Chocolates before. Each little chocolate is home made locally in Altoona PA on a small side street. In a small quaint building with a small store front. On my way home to Orangeville, I decided to check out their web sight. It was so simple and user friendly. To start, I live in Philly & my daughter was Penn State Altoona at the time & on 4/26/26 she turned 20yrs old and this was the first time I wasn't going to celebrating with her and being hands on with all the plans. But with the secret help of her College Friends I was able to plan an amazing Birthday weekend in state college for all of them to enjoy but the most stressful thing was find her the perfect Cake!! Her friends wanted to go to pick one up from a Supermarket but because I wasn't going to be there I wanted to make everything about her Bday super special and a market cake wasn't going to work unfortunately in addition they were college kids with no vehicles I didn't want to put that taste on them and it may or many not get done. I was now less then 2wks from her Bday weekend and just now starting the search for the perfect "I'm sorry Mommy couldn't be there but hopefully this amazingly crafted artwork now called your Bday Cake makes up for it" type of Cake. So my 3-4hrs long search begun..I needed to find a Bakery that could make her a cake that not only looked good but tastes even better (I have been disappointed in the past so my research was on the First 48 level, ...a bad cake can ruin entire Bday in my opinion. In addition, I needed discreet delivery services. After hours of searching, reading reviews & scanning every social media accounts as well as any and all websites that mentioned their names to ensure all T's were crossed and the reviews were actually verified by real people before choosing Dolce Vita Desserts. Their designs were all so creative & beautifully done and after emailing a few times with Anthony he not only confirmed my specific request but he also ensure that they could/would customize to design I preferred..so I took two Of their designs (because I loved them both and couldn't decide one over the other) and made it one :) I also explained to Anthony my need desperately need for delivery ..( their site mentioned how delivery was limited) I was willing to send it as uber package delivery even I was praying I wouldn't have to do that. But, Anthony not only approved my delivery he also advised me to touch bases with the Hotel staff and provide them with the box dimensions to ensure their fridge would be able fit/store and also gave specifics on how to properly store ...information I didn't even think to consider. I whole heartily appreciate all that Anthony has done to help make my daughter's Birthday super special. Everything was executed seamlessly, even down to the delivery confirmation email I received from Both Dolce & the Hotel. My daughter not only loved her surprise bday weekend but she was in love with her cake!! I ordered the 6" inch round white cake with strawberry preserves. I thought that since only my daughter & 3 of her friends were celebrating with her that they would take the left over cake to share with others at their dorm but she told me the cake was so good they devoured it. Not one crumb was left. Which was done after making a photo shoot with the cake! She loved everything about that cake! My only regret...is the fact that I wasn't able to try it myself! This is an odd sort of review, because the only chocolates I've eaten from here were the ones she tutored us to create. And...well...they were magnificent. So rewinding a bit... I was looking for gift idea for SB. A friend at work pointed me to a link to a listicle or PG article about a chocolate making class. I'd never heard of it before. Completely in the weeds. When I went to A519's webpage, it was not intuitively obvious to me where I could go to sign up. BUT...it's listed under "products"...https://shop.a519chocolate.com/products/private-truffle-making-class There...I made a link for you. If you love chocolate, or you love someone who loves chocolate, this class was really fantastic. It broke down a bit like this...(2 hours) 1) Introductions/qualifications/backstory (5 minutes) 2) Presentation about cacao to chocolate...bean to bar. Terminology, taste, geography (10-15 minutes) 3) Tasting...taste various types of "raw materials" used to make chocolate truffles, white chocolate, dulce, milk chocolate, various percentages of dark chocolate up to 85% (20 - 30 minutes) 4) Making chocolates (the remainder) Informative, entertaining, delicious, and satisfying. It's a working kitchen, but doesn't take up a ton of space, so a six person class can be a bit cramped, but not uncomfortably so. There was plenty of space for each couple to follow instructions and hands-on. We first decorated molds using cocoa butter sprinkles (a la Jackson Pollock), then painted with an air brush, then made ganache and tempered chocolate and poured and scraped, cooled and broke molds, each couple taking home 24 BEAUTIFUL truffles. SB likes 'experience gifts', and this one was a great experience for us both. And the truffles WE made were amazing, so I can't imagine how good the ones Amanda (owner/chef) produces would be. Strongly encourage (think: valentine's day gift).

They recently opened a pop up shop in central Lawrenceville which will be open through Feb 2018. When I arrived I met Amanda Wright's husband who is in charge of the shop. Chocolate truffles come in different size boxes and are very expensive. You can still order from Amanda either on-line or call her shop where she produces them if you are unable to come out. Boxes range anywhere from two to a box for $4.00 to about fifteen in a box for $30.00. Although they are grouped by category such as caramels, you are permitted to mix and match to your liking. I decided to opt for a champagne filled truffle and a dark chocolate one. They were box very nicely and I ate them when I got home. Believe me as always they are to die for! These chocolates are to be savored. Wine pairing also helps you enjoy the flavors better. I don't mind have to shelve out a little extra cash when I know something is extra special and believe me I have never been disappointed in any or their high end chocolates. If you are able to get to central Lawrenceville during the holiday season this place is a must if you want to get some of the best candy in the city. Amanda can also custom design a box using sports teams or beautiful art. This makes a great gift for someone who is indeed a chocolate lover.

Through Barkus Chocolates's website, I ordered a potato chip stack ($4.25), a peanut butter cup ($7.25), a s'more ($9.50), and an 8-ounce box of assorted milk chocolates ($17.95). Shipping cost $7.87. The next day, Barkus Chocolates shipped my package via the USPS. One day later, the USPS delivered the package to my house. I felt happy with the speed of the shipping. I enjoyed the flavors of most of the chocolates. The box of assorted chocolates included flavors such as cordial cherry (5 stars!), raspberry, mint, cashews, peanuts, coconut, raisins, orange, etcetera.
