Horrible service. The women they have working there don't have the vernacular to handle the evening "rush" apparently... as if a rush of people even exists here in Ottumwa. We waited 40 minutes to place an order and another 40 minutes for them to turn on the spurs game that myself and several other patrons requested. It's a cute bar, but we didn't even get to try the food because we were waiting for so long. No one is making you work there ladies... if you don't want to work, go home. Needs new staff and probably better management to ensure that "people skills," and respect are still being implemented as part of their training. read more

Excellent dining experience. Great bar & grill atmosphere, and the patio is sooo nice in the summer time. I can tell they clean very well, too. There's literally something for everyone here. I absolutely love the southwest salad and the burgers are so thick and juicy. The wait staff are very nice and attentive. I know one of them personally - Sydney is a very hard worker and does a fantastic job all around. Godfrey's really is a perfect representation of the charming community of Ottumwa. Wings were covered in a gravy style Parmesan sauces. Service was nearly nonexistent. Granted they were busy but not even a "I be right there". Once served no follow up. Lost of revenue for sure. And likely not returning. Top it off. I had two beers and they tried charging for 4. Corrected but still no smiles no apologize nothing. Staff was not pleasant. Stopped here for lunch on my way through during a work trip. They had just opened when I got there and there were already 2 other parties inside and another 4 parties showed up while I was there so I figured it must be good if it was getting busy right at 11. I ordered the Tiger Burger which had queso and jalapenos with fries. The fries were decent, nothing out of this world by any means. The burger was messy in all the ways I was hoping for with a queso burger. It packed a little bit of heat but nothing crazy like I was expecting. The service was good. I've gone here a few times with my family as we live within walking distance of the restaurant. Overall I give it 4 stars. The food is not bad, but it's not the best food ever, somewhat average id say (although the pretzel bites are amazing) The service is pretty nice, there's usually sports games playing on the TVs and you can request them to put on a game from whatever sport you like. However the time between getting your food and ordering can be somewhat inconsistent. Most of the time you'll get your food in a fairly decent amount of time or even a little bit quicker then usual, but sometimes it will take forever to get your food. Lastly the restaurants interior+exterior is i'd say slightly above average, not amazing, but still pretty good. Although inside it can get a little loud. Overall, not a bad restaurant, and better than most in this town. 7.5/10. read more

Went for dinner on a week night. The food and atmosphere were great. The restaurant was clean and the workers were friendly.

Not a lot of places to go in Ottumwa, but this is a good choice for a couple of beers and a good meal. Pleasant sports bar atmosphere, plays local radio (not too loud), and good and attentive service. On a nice day or night, overhead doors come up to give an open air feel to the whole place. My wife and I stopped to eat here while running errands in Ottumwa. Not a ton of places so we were excited to try here! When we first got to the restaurant it looked great! Great atmosphere and every modern. My wife commented on how she like the roll up garage doors that combine the indoor and outdoor eating areas. When we got the food there was little to complain about, tasted good and except my burger was a little over cooked. No big deal. Now. When we got home is when the trouble started. Important note: Godfrey's is the only thing my wife and I had to eat today and we stopped for lunch around 2pm. By 6pm we were both wrenching and sick as a dog with Norovirus. We have spent the last 10 hours throwing up, sick, and dehydrated. It has been an awful experience and the doctor at the ER told us it had to have been food poisoning from Norovirus due to the sudden onset of symptoms and that we both ate together at the same restaurant. Could be a great place, but they need to watch their FoodSafe handling practices. read more

Started with a very good atmosphere. Has a nice outdoor area and doors that open to make inside like outside. The service is what ruined our experience. Server got us drinks to leave us hanging for about 20 minutes finally another one came to take our order. Noticed a lot of servers had friends/familiar faces that popped in which they would spend a lot of time conversing leaving tables waiting. When it came time to leave. We had to go to bar to pay because of waiting to long while people talking. This doesn't ruin the decent food we had but does the experience for traveling through. read more

This place has a really nice modern atmosphere! The fried onion strings were really good but they could have used some seasoning. The pulled pork was a lot less meat than we thought it would be, and the pork was dry. The fries were crispy but also could have used seasoning. Would definitely recommend to a friend! read more

My sister was back visiting and we dropped in just as the lunch crowd was clearing out. We had the catfish dinner and the pork tenderloin sandwich meal along with some onion strings. Everything was very good. I got a large piece of catfish and the fries were crisp and tasty. Not a coleslaw fan so passed on that. Mom had the sweet potato fries and said they were excellent as well. 3.5 stars We wanted to try something new, we are not from Ottumwa, food was great! Service was a lacking. The first server we had was fantastic and very pleasant then there was a shift change and we watched our server leave. No one came back to our table, no one asked us if we needed refills or if things were good.
