It has been 10 months since we adopted out senior dog (a Goldie) from this rescue organization. The whole experience was a positive one. Costs cover adoption and transportation fees, final vet check, vaccines, complete medical and treatment records. Communication was timely. And we were lucky to get a beautiful pet. We just rescued from God's Dogs after seeing them at a KTSA event and hearing the need for rescues to find forever homes. Our sweet 15 year old passed and it was time. The experience was fantastic. They take the time to review applications, call references, and ensure each pet goes to a home committed to forever. We knew there was a chance we would not get a call as others may have interest, but that's a blessing in rescuing and we were ok with that. The foster that had our rescue was wonderful. She has put so much of her own resources in to help save lives, and Gods Dogs needs help to keep the food flowing (Puppy Food Bank assists as well) and the vet care and medication. I saw a rescue on their page and was drawn to one dog. I put in my application, they looked it over, called my references and vet, and approved my application within a week. I was able to meet the pup I chose to adopt and fell in love with him. He had already been neutered, potty and crate trained, and came with all his vaccinations! I just received my puppy on 2/23. He left TX on 2/20. My puppy has Parvo which he had before leaving TX. He was in n transport with 9 other puppies. I hope they will all be ok. We went to the vets Wednesday, Thursday and Friday costing us a 1000.00. Now our sweet 12 week old puppy is at the ER. This is now costing us another 7000.00. This month s a big hit to us. We had a very positive experience adopting our dog. It can be difficult to look at all the dogs available and know which would be the best fit for our family. So, we sent the rescue a paragraph describing in detail what we were hoping for, and the paragraph was forwarded to every foster family to see what they thought! We ended up having two foster moms recommend dogs they thought sounded just right. We talked in more detail with each foster and ended up choosing Jellybean (now named Sierra). The foster mom also got to speak up about the potential adoption, too - she wanted Jellybean to go to a great home. It was a wonderful experience. Sierra was transported by van and we received pictures during the trip before finally meeting her in person. Thank you, God's Dogs! Very disappointed and angry with my experience with adopting a rescue from this organization. I was told it would be a healthy pup. Took him to the vet 2 days after arrival (arrival was a Saturday) for an overall evaluation/check-up. I noticed the dog has serious fur loss from excessive itching/biting his skin I was concerned about. To make the list short the dogs health upon arrival was: double ear infection, suture infection from neutering, and mites/mange, and WORMS. When I emailed the Gods Dogs Rescue contact I had, I unexpectedly received an angry phone call from the transport individual instead. Upset with me for making her look bad to Gods Dogs Rescue, and I should've known what I was getting into when getting a rescue dog and that she would refund me and take the dog back. Even though it was very clear the dog was not being given bare minimum health care (I've kept the dog). It was apparent this individual was very upset I pointed out the poor care and poor condition the dog is in and tried to make me feel bad for telling someone at Gods Dogs about it. There was no accountability or forthcoming from this individual, just defensiveness. Ethically speaking the dog was poorly looked after, not fostered appropriately, and transported very sick. Cruel to say the least. IF the dogs best interests are in mind, I feel it's safe to say this organization does not hold up to that standard. The entire ordeal screams sketchy in the sense of truly caring for the dogs they've rescued... the pup had no medical care prior to my home. Believe the bad reviews. read more

Attention donors and sponsors!!! Make sure this agency is not taking advantage of your donations!! Unfortunately, this agency is not in the business of actually adopting their dogs out. We have been in contact with them for over a month and despite NEVER meeting anyone in person, much less actually meeting any dog we inquired about, the agency keeps deterring us from dogs on the basis of the breed and/or "first come first serve basis" (false advertisement). We are current Siberian Husky owners and were told we would not be able to adopt a husky because the breed were "escape artists"; as if we are not familiar with the breed. The owner, Julie, went so far as to accuse us of not being able to provide a secure and active environment and has never met us, our dog, or been to our home. All we wanted (still want) is a healthy sibling for our husky and know they are a pack breed. Perhaps the agency needs more education on dog breeds. Or more importantly, the agency should not pass undue judgement and claim to be "God's Dog Rescue". read more

CORRESPONDENCE ATTACHED along with a picture of our lovey sick doggy. In December we adopted a 1.5 year old American Blue Heeler. From the second we got her home she had health problems. They said it was because she was stressed from transport from Texas. It got worse so we took her to the vet and they told us that there was no way that it didn't present before we got her. We have spent over 1k on vet bills and medications. Today I messaged the foster who took care of her when she was with them asking to talk to the rescue about these issues. I'm not going to lie I was angry! I asked them if they knew anything about her health issues prior to her adoption. Which, by the way was $400. I received a call from a women named Julie. As soon as I said hello I could tell that she was going to be hostile. I explained all of our dogs health issues. She responded by saying there was no way they could have known about any of those. Which according to our vet was highly unlikely. She then proceeded to shame and basically say I was neglecting our dog and that she was actually still THEIR dog because THEY rescued her not me. She then said they need her back. The way she reacted makes me think that they knew about at least some of these issues before she came to us. You are 100% better off rescuing directly from a Texas Kill Shelter. You can fine a wonderful dog who will love you unconditionally for less money and you will know that they need your love. God's Dog Rescue definitely makes a profit off of every person who pays $400+ on adoption fees. They then ask for donations. Quite frankly I think it's a scam. You don't deserve to be lied to like I was. Please be really careful with who you adopt from so you don't make the same mistakes I have made. I hope this review was helpful. read more

I was communicating with the foster mom and adoption coordinator as my application was progressing along. I informed God's Dog I adopted a cat shortly after I submitted my application. I was then informed the dog I was interested in never met a cat and that would need to be cat tested. Yesterday I received an email saying the dog was adopted to someone else the day before! We applied for a dog back in OCTOBER. We waited very patiently for WEEKS, even though their site said they would notify us within 3-5 business days. THEY NEVER SENT ANYTHING. I just checked on the puppy today, in DECEMBER, and the puppy had been adopted. They never notified us of anything other than that our application was under review. We wanted a puppy to train for an emotional support dog. It was VERY disappointing that we didn't even receive an email saying that our application was unapproved or even that the dog had been adopted. read more

After going through the entire adoption process, paying the fee, talking to our pups foster parents and various email's later, we did not get our pup. We waited a few extra weeks for her to ship to us because her foster parents would be on vacation. We continued to talk to the foster parents via phone and email to address any concerns for over a month. She was given a date to ship out to us, Dec. 17th, and on Dec. 14 we receive an email sating that she is not coming. The "foster parents" sent an email with a list of concerns that we already covered and asked my wife and I to email them back. Less than 24 hours had passed before we did. We receive another email that night from the organization that the "foster parents" have decided to adopt our pup and she would not be coming. This is after over a month of communication, bonding, and preparing for this wonderful dog to come into our lives. Three days before she is set to come to us they say she is not coming. THREE DAYS! We received an email from the organization saying "this almost never happens, but sorry!". Overall, this has been a long, exhausting, heartbreaking experience. If you decide to adopt from this organization just know that they can just scrap everything and give the dog to someone within their own organization over you. Even after an application, fee, and even calling and checking references they will still pull the rug out from under your feet. read more

I found this organization a little over 2 years after moving to SA. I have followed them since and had hoped to adopt from them. My gf & I went to look at a puppy and were not pleased first of all with the condition the animals were living in. The place was filled with urine & feces everywhere. I don't think that 1 foster taking care of 7 dogs, 7 puppies, 2 cats, and 2 birds is a good idea and this foster could use some help. Although the foster does seem like a good person, she obviously has too much on her plate. One dog managed to escape when we were leaving so we went to get him back for her which she then almost made it seem like we were trying to take him. After all of this we felt still confident to adopt the puppy we wanted. After thinking everything was ok and they had everything they needed, we received an email 2 days later to find out they changed their mind. The reason? They were unable to get a hold of 2 out of my 3 references and no shot records of my previous dog could be found. The application asked for the name of your veterinarian. The one I put was the last one used as I moved to SA in 2016. This is why they could not get the shot records. But instead of asking me they decided just to say no and change their mind. Had I known they needed shot records, then I could have worked to get this as I no longer have this information. I emailed the board and explained to them this and also to look into the condition of the animals. They said there was nothing wrong. I do not feel safe adopting a puppy in such living conditions nor are we ok with an organization that allows such living conditions for their rescues. Very disappointed and will no longer support this shelter. read more

If I could put no stars I would. I was denied an adoption due to my current pet not being "current" on distemper. What they didn't even care to ask was why. She has previously had a vaccine reaction and therefore as an owner, I spoke with our vet and decided not to do another vaccination. I understand if that is policy or requirements, that is not my issues with this rescue. I am very disappointed in the way they responded to me as well. It came off super rude and they told me their dogs "deserve better". Excuse me? You think because my dog isn't vaccinated due to a reaction that she is not in a good home? I could have welcomed another dog in need of a home into my house, but due to this situation they denied me and handled it very rudely. I do hope the particular dog does find a good home. read more
