This place is a joke. They charge almost $6 bucks for a medium soft serve. DQ in Fairfield is the about same but at least they give you your $6 bucks worth. Don't expect this place to. And two scoops of mediocre ice cream to the tune of $7 bucks! Are you kidding. Hey, I know it's Darien and I'm willing to pay the the ridiculous prices in that neighborhood but for a good product. Frankly Gofers ice cream is bland and absolutely not worth the high cost. Honestly this was my first (and last) time at this Gofer's location and I was so grossed out. The place is filthy with young people who unfortunately, thanks to obvious poor management, don't have a clue about how to offer customer service. We had friend who recently moved to Darien, which gave us a good excuse to check out this beautiful town this past weekend. On the flight over my 8 year old son said "Hey mom. There's one thing in my life that I haven't tried yet- mint chocolate chip ice cream." Gofer Ice Cream made this 8 year old boys dream come true with a big scoop of mint chocolate chip ice cream topped with candy corn. I'm not sure I would want candy corn (and I LOVE candy corn) on my top of my mint chocolate chip ice cream, but he was in good company with his candy corn loving sister and friends. And if you're wondering..the mint chocolate chip lived up to the hype. I went for the almond milk soft serve, which was delish even on a cool fall day. We ate it outside since that was the safest pandemic option. I prefer my ice cream on hot days, but kids seem to be OK eating ice cream anytime of year. read more

I came in for some icecream on a Saturday night and was met with nothing but judgement. I happen to be wearing my favorite green puffer jacket and all the employees were laughing at me, one even came up to me and said how much he disliked it. Broken soft serve machines, and dried-up ice cream everywhere on the floor and tables. Be prepared to wait to be served even though there wasn't a line - they were really busy having a conversation. The nice high school teenagers who work there are still learning proper customer service skills. Oh yeah, soft-serve ice cream is just okay. This place is so customer unfriendly. Ordered a birthday cake for my son 24 hours in advance and they told us that they don't take cake orders ( mind you it's ice cream cake) without 48 hours notice ,but she would do this for US this time. It should be ready by 5:00 the next day she said. When I showed up at 4:30 I waited on line for 25 mins because "you have to wait on line to pick up orders placed in advance" and when I finally got to pick up the cake the girl said, "it's not ready, we said 5:00 and it is not 5:00 yet " mind you it was 4:50. Then she pulled out the blank cake with not even the base icing down, just a block of ice cream. They must have been very busy all day to not have 10 mins to get this cake ready. We got lucky choosing this place just because it was open in October (there's your first point). The boy serving us was very pleasant. I'd give major points for the variety of good flavors, excellent creamy ice cream, pretty outdoor seating, AND they will split a scoop so you don't have to choose between 2 of the delicious flavors. I wish I'd seen the special cones before I ordered! It's a bit pricey for the portion sizes, but it was definitely worth a stop and it'd be nice to have this place closer to home. read more

I LOVE ice cream, I mean totally love it. It's a food group. Some people feel it's a treat; I feel it's a necessity. So, when I love an ice cream shop, I think I know from whence I speak. Unfortunately, Gofer isn't in my back yard, or even close. I was driving home from JFK and, being too tired and hungry to make it back to the New Haven area without a pick-me-up, I used my Yelp app to find this place; I am eternally grateful. Okay, I've only been there once. I only had two flavors. Somehow, I don't think I just got lucky. The Caramel Sea Salt and Mud Pie were both delicious beyond words and as creamy as I've ever had. The flavors are really strong and each bite is a bit of heaven. I wish I could have tried more flavors but there is a limit to everything. Gofer's is at least an hour away from my home so I probably can't get there too often, but the next time I'm heading south on I-95 to NY, I think I may make an involuntary turn off the exit to Darien and see what else this shop has to offer. read more

I am a huge ice cream fan, and Gopher is my absolute favorite shop! My husband and kids love it as much as I do too. Aside from the amazing homemade hard ice cream, they have frozen yogurt, Italian ices and soft serve as well. The ice cream flavors range from traditional vanilla & rocky road (my husband's favorite), to whimsical Gopher Tracks to sophisticated Caramel with Sea Salt (my newest favorite). And of course, when I'm watching my diet, I get Gopher Lite, which is low in sugar and calories and high in protein! Also, the outdoor sitting area makes enjoying your ice cream even better on a warm summer night. read more

This place has the most amazing flavors--classic like chocolate peanut butter and toasted almond, and creative ones like gramcracker+honeycomb, mud pie, and so many more. Excellent quality ice cream! For example, I can definitely taste the difference between an ordinary vanilla and caramel ice cream, and the genuine Sea Salt Caramel swirl Gofers uses. It's expensive, ($4.99 for a medium scoop cup) but what Ice cream shop isn't expensive these days? But it's good enough Ice cream that I'd choose coming here over Baskin Robins anyday. I could do without cakes and other baked goods, so when I look for a sweet release, ice cream is my go-to option. I live a few minutes from Gofer, and I frequent many businesses in this area yet this was my first visit. There is not much to say about the shop itself - nothing really blows you away. However there is outdoor seating, which is a huge plus on those summer nights getting ice cream. I decided on an ice cream with a peanut butter base and peanut butter swirls/fudge. This is my favorite ice cream combination (vanilla and peanut butter). The ice cream was surprisingly excellent. Not only was it flavorful, but it had a creamy, exceptional texture. The base ice cream makes it, because it was so creamy. I have high standards for peanut butter ice cream, and this met those. I had poor expectations solely because I had never been here, and yet I was blown away and will certainly take another few trips back. Try it out! read more

Heard about this place from a friend. Decided to go one day after dinner, hours said open until 1030. We arrived at about 955, the doors were locked and the kids inside saw that we weren't leaving, opened the door to tell us that actually closed at 10 and they started cleaning then and left at 1030 and refused to serve us. I'm all about giving high school kids jobs but when they aren't following store hours and lying bc they want to be paid until 1030 but don't want to work later than that ... it's a problem. I find it incredibly irresponsible. I will not be returning to this location and I will be sure to tell those who recommended this place to me as well. read more

Honestly some of the nicest staff members I've ever met -- and high school kids too. They're really accommodating and kind. The ice cream is great and there's a ton of flavors. They even have an abundance of soft-serve flavors, which is really neat, along with "specialty cones", ice cream bites, and "flying discs". This is a pretty crappy and yet overly pretentious ice cream establishment. The ice cream flavors are mediocre, the kids behind the counter have an attitude problem, the portion of ice cream I got was minuscule and half melted, and everything is way overpriced. I tried this place a few years ago and had a similar experience, but figured I'd come in again with my kid because I figured maybe my prior experience was just an isolated experience, but it wasn't. This place sucks. Pretentious ice cream for pretentious people. Even the gopher on the logo looks like a jerk with a popped collar. WTF? read more

This review is not about Gofers Ice Cream, their ice cream is fantastic. I am giving them a 1 star review based on the customer service I received there last Sunday (4/12/15) at around 4:30pm. My fiancé and I are regular customer, we order the same thing every week and the girl at the counter who helped us was extremely rude. I brought it to her attention that my ice cream seemed substantially smaller than usual and she yelled at me tell me that I was wrong. My fiancé went ahead and ordered her ice cream and she seemed extremely annoyed when my fiancé wanted gummy bears on her ice cream. Upon paying for the ice cream the girl threw the change down on the counter at me and walked away, my fiancé couldn't even believe it. I wanted to say something to a manager but I didn't see an adult there. read more

This place is so cute! We stopped here on our way to Boston. Great homemade ice cream! Lot's of choices, inside and outside seating in the cute town of Darien. Definitely a must go if you are in the area. They gave my son a few tastes of different ice creams. We got milk shakes and they were amazing, a bit pricey but worth every penny! Located in a nice area with benches outside for people-watching, I have to say that's about as good as it gets. The service was good; we were taken care of promptly. However, I believe I had more ice chunks than pistachios in my ice cream. Babe got more ice chips than chocolate chips in his. Gofer has the best ice cream in town! It's creamy and delicious. I suggest the Oreo flavor, the cookie chunks are generous and perfectly textured. My other favorite flavors are Mint Chocolate Chip and Candy Bar. They elevate themselves above your typical ice cream joint by offering a fabulous selection of toppings! I am also a big fan of their Razzles -like a blizzard but better! Finally they have all sorts of interesting flavor choices for the more adventurous crowd like Peppermint and Chocolate Cherry Sensation. I bring my grandchildren to Gofer's in Darien all the time and love their ice cream. In addition, we have ordered birthday cakes with the flavors the children love. The help is friendly, the service good and the ice cream tastes great! read more

Its hit or miss at this shop. Sometimes the staff is wonderful and sometimes they are rude and careless. The ice-cream is good though.
