My experience with Gold and Diamond Source was nothing short of fantastic. I went in pretty blind to how the process of creating a custom engagment ring works, and the staff was very attentive a friendly, recommending me to one of thier finest ring designers, Darrell Cox. Darrell was incredible, I wanted to present my now fiance with a hybrid claddagh ring with a couple of ideas in mind. After initial communication through email, Darrell and I sat down in the store and went over the details of the ring and how it would look. I could tell there was an element of challenge to designing this based on my specifications, but Darrell was able to take it head on and presented me with his idea for the design within a few days. From there a wax model was made and we went over more specifications. I mentioned to Darrell that I wanted to propose on a particular date about 4 weeks from when we agreed on the design. Typically, custom made rings take around 6-8 weeks, but Darrell said he would see what he could do to expedite the process. HE CAME THROUGH! I received the ring about 3 days before I wanted to propose, and everything went flawlessly. I'm so glad I walked into Gold and Diamond Source and was introduced to Darrell. My fiance had proposed to me using his great-grandmother's ring as a placeholder until after we moved to the Tampa area and were able to pick out a more permanent ring. So we stopped in on a Saturday a couple weeks ago. This place was packed. Then we realized it was the weekend before Valentine's Day. Definitely understand the crowd now. Regardless, we were sent back to the bridal area right when we walked in, and they set us up with a saleslady (can't remember her name) and the diamond specialist, Veronica, who was amazing! They really took the time to understand what I wanted in a ring and brought me many different options until I found the one that was for me. And after Veronica put the center diamond in the setting, I was done! It was amazing. Then they go through all the things that come with the ring. Lifetime warranty, twice a year cleanings, even if the center diamond comes out they'll fix it for you. Let me start with the good news. My wife is happy! When I went to purchase a Christmas present for her, I was greeted by a knowledgeable, patient, and professional salesperson (Matt B). The experience was great (but don't try biking to this place). Now the bad part. During the original shopping experience, only a few of the retail price tags were visible. Only by chance were some visible so I was annoyed to continually ask what the item cost. Prices should be visible so you can judge what works in your price range. A bit of good news, both my buddy and I received discounts because of our professions. Things went sour when (after the Holiday) my wife wanted something else only to discover that there is only a 10 day return policy. This was clearly indicated on the receipt but being a guy, I didn't look at that until after the fact (that one is on me). However, the receipt also had a 30 day credit for an exchange. So back we went, and my wife got something she liked. Again, very friendly, and professional. After talking to Mary, we ended up with surplus exchange credit which I was assured would never expire. Here is where things really went sour for me. When we came to pick up my wife's item, I decided to use that surplus credit to get myself a small gift (which I picked out and was ready to purchase) I was told the credit did not apply to the item I choose. Really???? So please be aware of this misleading exchange policy and the fact that you need to know you only have 10 days to return your item for next Christmas. read more

I told my FI I was happy with a low color (j/k/l)diamond (Its in a yellow gold setting) but when he went back on his own Tony again helped him and showed him colorless E and F diamonds next to the K and L I looked at. No surprise my loved the colorless stones. I ended up with a 3ex F SI1 and Love it so much. I have had it almost a year and have been back 3 times to have to clean/inspected/polished. I was robbed. Were it not the day before christmas eve and an hour drive, i'd have left with my original merchandise. 7 years ago I purchased an engagement ring; diamond and sapphires (from them). The original price was $799.00 I went back to upgrade it. Because of the late hour, it couldn't be done. So I was offered an exchange; for a $900.00 ring. However the trade value I was given was $300.00. They discounted the upgrade $100.00. Yet in still, my $799.00 ring was drastically devalued despite it being great condition needing only a cleaning. Nice showroom and was definitely crowded! I was shopping for a ring and was passed along to an engagement ring 'expert'. We found a spot to sit at the far end of the showroom and discussed budget and what I was looking for. I had an idea with what I wanted, but all the salesperson would talk about was the price, and how she could get this and that price lowered. That's all well and good that we can get the price lowered, but how about finding something that I told you I wanted? I was shown things I didn't want, which was a waste of time. I did, eventually, find something that was a possibility, it turned in to a gigantic sales pitch about how if I don't buy it now then it will be gone. She was not happy that I was taking notes about the ring I may have came back to buy later that afternoon. I mentioned I wanted to think it over since it was a big purchase. She asked what there was to think about. Maybe I should have asked for a new salesperson, but it was so crowded I didn't want to deal with it. read more

The best way to review the Gold and Diamond Source is to compare it with the store right next store, the International Diamond Center, which is why I will put this review under both stores. To put it bluntly, the IDC is for people with a higher income. All the engagement rings are designer and quite beautiful (you can go on its website to see which designers they showcase). I am very impressed with their selection and I never saw a ring and thought, "who would buy that?" They sell the diamond and setting separate, which is, in my opinion, the best way to do it. (It gets you the most bang for your buck, but a lot of lower quality, i.e. chain stores at the mall, do not do it this way, because of convenience for the less informed customer.) They are aimed at a higher clientele, which is apparent from the selection. I was only looking at settings (since we already have a diamond) and I found ones I liked from as little at $995 to as much as $4,000 (although I'm sure there are ones at higher and lower prices, though probably not much lower). I was told that their Askher collection is the cheapest. You can find a setting in the Askher collection that looks very similar to the designer settings for a lot less. They have a huge variety, so as long as you have the money you will definitely find something. In comparison, the Gold and Diamond Source has cheaper jewelry. You have the choice of looking at settings with the diamonds already attached or settings and diamonds separately. (Just the fact that they sell settings with diamonds already attached signifies that they are targeting a lower income clientele than the IDC). At the Gold and Diamond Source you have a much larger variety of rings in the hundreds of dollars (as opposed to the thousands). In regards to customer service, again, it is very different based on the clientele the locations are serving. At the IDC, the salespeople are very professional. They answer questions thoroughly and are very polite. At the Gold and Diamond Source, the salespeople act like family. I went a couple months ago and when I walked in a couple days ago, the saleslady who helped me the first time remembered me and acted like I was an old friend. It may be different that I have always had a male help me at the IDC and a female at the Gold and Diamond Source. However, I have noticed that the salespeople at the Gold and Diamond Source have more bubbly and warm personalities. As for atmosphere, the IDC is generally empty. I've always seen only a couple people in there. On the other hand, the Gold and Diamond Source is always bustling and busy. It all comes down to what you are looking for. If you want a huge selection of designer rings then go to the IDC. If you want a lower quality, but less expensive gift/ring then go to the Gold and Diamond Source. read more

The sales people I have been paired up with always seem happy and eager to please! Besides the customer service, who wouldn't enjoy themselves while looking at all the shiny diamonds? I had the pleasure to work to Alexis (the brunette) about what kind of wedding band would match my uniquely shaped engagement ring. She gave me so many options and went above and beyond by requesting a price quote from the designer who made my engagement ring for a matching wedding band. She emailed me on her days off to keep me in the loop!! Alexis was with another customer when my fiancé and I came back in to buy, but Veronica took care of us as if we'd been working with her all along. I ventured in on a Sunday afternoon to sell a .5 carat engagement ring and a detailed ruby and diamond necklace. At this point, I was just wanting to get rid of the things and not go through the hassle of selling on craiglist or ebay. It's located across the street from an airport, and very close to their competitor, International Diamond Source. So, if you want to compare prices and offers, you could easily go to both places. I did not do this, because, I just wanted to be done with the jewelry! Upon entering, you go through a metal detector, but they don't really check you. The place has a nice saltwater aquarium, some birds, and even cookies laid out for customers. They have a separate section in the back for bridal jewelry, and also coins and other limited edition type pieces. The place was quite busy. A consultant greeted me and cleaned my jewelry up and inspected and weighed it in order to give me an offer. I was offered $112 for two pieces that were purchased for about $1,000, which I'm sure I could've done better at a pawn shop, but it's better than the jewelry sitting in my jewelry box collecting dust. They quickly wrote a check and I was on my way. EASY! They do custom pieces, and have a lot of unique offerings, so I'd possibly go back here to look for jewelry. I'd love to compare it to the International Diamond Source. read more

What a wonderful store! A while back when my husband and I were just dating (over 10 years ago) he bought me a beautiful promise ring from Greece with large amethyst. The ring was made with yellow gold and since I usually wear white gold it was siting in my jewelry box most of the time. A good friend of mine got her wedding band from GDS and said they can create any type of custom jewelry. I met with the sales associate and the designer to go over the ring design. Shortly after I received an email with pictures of initial design. We went back and forth on the design until I said 'this is it'. The ring was ready in couple of month and it was spectacular! The craftsmanship was amazing - if you look at the ring from the top, any of the sides, etc you could only see diamonds! The pave technique used to create the ring was exceptional! After that we've been back to purchase few more jewelry pieces (for myself and our daughter) as well as bought gold coins for Christenings as well as other special celebrations. I searched for the perfect engagement-ring setting in New York, New Jersey, and even Arkansas before finding this "gem" of a jewelry store. It was recommended to me by my cousin who lives in Florida and really knows jewelry. At first we were very disappointed because I had called to ask if they had any Tacori settings, and the man I spoke with on the phone said they had a few, but also similar designs. So off we went, traveling 40 minutes out of our way, only to arrive and find out that they didn't have any Tacori. That was upsetting -- at first. We soon got over our initial disappointment as Veronica and Hala brought out several beautiful settings that were thousands of dollars less than Tacori would have been. (Of course, not as haute but stunning nonetheless.) Each ring they brought out was more breathtaking than the one before. I really felt that Veronica and Hala understood exactly what I was looking for as they helped me decide. After a while, they began to feel like good friends and not just salesgals. They were extremely patient with me, maintaining their professionalism while relating on a very personal level. We spent 2.5 hours at G&DS before I unexpectedly lit upon the absolutely perfect setting for me. It was exactly what I had been looking for! We were all so excited about the end of my long search, that V&H offered to pour us some wine for a toast, and took our photograph for posterity. I really like the store's warranty and service policy. I was also able to get an appraisal that day to take to my insurance agent. Because I was leaving Fla. the next morning, they sized the ring and shipped it to me the next day via FedEx. It arrived in a well-protected and beautiful box . The only problem was that the 18k mark had been removed during sizing, which was only a minor annoyance. Overall - despite the initial phone faux pas -- I enjoyed the experience immensely, thanks to Veronica and Hala. This establishment was recommended to me when I had some side diamonds fall out of a ring that no one would fix as it was an invisible setting which is apparently very hard to fix and secure the stones in place. I decided to venture up and see what if anything could be done. The initial person took my ring to a jeweler out back and came back and said they would have to send it out for an estimate. This is a pretty expensive ring so sending it out was not an option I wanted. A manager soon came over and assisted the clerk, taking my ring to inspect. I soon had several choices including repairing it but he said they have found one company who does that type of setting so it would have to be sent out. He also said because of the ring being previously sized it caused the stones to be unstable and there was no guarantee they would not come loose. At least I felt like I had several options now. The staff were very helpful and the store has a huge variety of options for any buyer in any price range. Security is in place throughout the store and plenty of staff who are very attentive as soon as you enter. Wow! Just wow. I stopped in today to have my ring dipped (white gold) and cleaned, and was so impressed! The service was amazing and professional. My salesperson was 3SH according to my receipt. She tested my diamond for authenticity, then measured the diamond and then photographed the diamond for their records. My ring was ready in 2 hours and they even tightened the prongs.
