If you are going to having work done on your vehicle, get a written estimate.  I didn't…read more   I took my car in for the first time to Brookings Automotive.  The owner, James, diagnosed the problem and gave me an estimate of $1500, possibly a bit more if there were problems (this amount was verified one month later, also in person).  Two months, and many promises later, my car had still not been worked on.  Finally, on May 26th James called and said that my car was ready and that it would cost $2,438.  I asked "what happened to the $1500, plus a bit more".  James said, "I don't remember telling you I could do it for $1500.  I thought we agreed on $2000 ". I am not criticizing James' work.  I take issue with his "memory" and his word.  This senior citizen learned a valuable lesson and will be eating beans.

It is not a simple task, and the filter isn't even listed for this year and model vehicle at the dealership parts depts.They just knew it was there!). Being familiar with this trans. and the required service steps, it was a pleasant relief to watch these pros at work.
