Epic Tow truck guy came up and said they will tow our car and it will cost $68 now or at the towing site, it would be like $170. They said they got video of you. There's an old drunk looking man sitting by the fence who tips off the towing guys when the customer leaves the lot. Was at the bakery for less than 10 mins. Of course we paid the towing people. SHOCKED THE BUSINESSES in the lot is allowing this. Or do they know?? Unfortunately the businesses in this lot will suffer especially if this type of extortion happens. Parking is insane at this supermarket, since its a market and other stores that share the parking lot. There is a kine to get in, at the door they take your temperature and provide you with a set of gloves and mask is a must! This is always good to see a business ser the standards. We went in looking for lobsters and we found at $5.99 a pound Sat and Sun only!! The vegetables and seafood section look fresh and well supplied. The wife and I work as a team. I get in line since the line is long. I usually do so when she is 75% of the way done, today she was done just as i was being called to step up to the register. You can pay cash, credit or debit. Gold City Supermarket is the definition of fast paced, heavily populated, Chinese supermarket. Everyone here comes to do their weekly grocery shopping stuffing their carts full of meat, veggies, and seafood. There is a path to shop here. Over the years I've learned how to get in and get out like the rest of these shoppers. You get your temperature taken then get handed a pair of plastic gloves. First you enter the seafood and fruit aisles, then turn left for the meat butchers, one out to get veggies, head back for the semi frozen section like tofu and eggs, then go down the aisles for dry food/noodles/sauces, then get on the long checkout line and grabbing any remaining veggies you forgot to get the first time. The grocery is fresh here since I'm pretty sure hundreds or maybe a thousand people come and go, so the workers are constantly putting out new veggies and fruit. This is one of the few supermarkets in Flushing where there is free parking so you have people from Long Island and Brooklyn making the trip here for their weekly groceries. read more

One of the best Chinese supermarkets you can find in the community knowing how much the owner cares for their customers and their safety. Upon walking up to the entrance, there are 2 body temp thermometers that measures customer body temp. An employee monitors it and hands out gloves as you walk in. I have been to Hmart, Jmart, none of those huge supermarket empires even give a damn About who is walking in through that door and what they touch. The money they put in to hire the gatekeeper and the amount of gloves they use shoes how little money matters and how much they care. They always have fresh fruits, seafood and produce. They got a good selection even compared to their larger competitions. As I was checking out, I see they were selling masks. A box of 50 for $4.50 .... this is how you know they care. Most places are price gouging or inflating. I think they genuinely wants to provide protection supply to the community! I bought a box, compared it to the 50 I bought for $25-$30 ..... same cheap material, same difference. I would recommend this place to anyone, stop going to heartless places like Hmart or jmart. Well well well, finally we find an Asian supermarket where it offers "true" Chinese grocery. Yes, there are a few Asian market near where we live in South Florida, but they don't have a lot of selection to choose from. In fact, we sometimes can't find things we are looking for. So naturally I can't help to take pictures on items where people here consider them everyday groceries but we consider them pots of gold. Just to name a few: Chinese vegetables. Some vegetables you can't get in S FL, the kinds only Chinese people eat. Also the meat and seafood section. They have all kinds of meat, pork, beef and chicken. Some cuts you can't get anywhere else. For example, pig ears and beef tails. Sea food sections offers a lot of fish, crabs and shrimps. And the prices are reasonable. With all kinds of different Asian supermarkets in the neighborhood, prices have to be very competitive or they will lose their customers. We bought a tons of stuff and the total still came under $100 which feed our family 8 for 2 meals. read more

I have been coming here for my groceries almost every week since it opened. This time, I parked my car and went across the street to pick up something first. It was only about 15 minutes. On my way back to the supermarket passed my car, I found a tow truck behind it ready to tow it. I had to pay the tow truck driver ransom in cash to have him drop my car off the tow truck. I really regretted it that I have spent tens of thousands of dollars at this place over the years. Well, with far more new Chinese supermarkets openned now, I will never come here again. Incidentally, where I parked, there is no warning sign about towing. I didn't have time to argue with the tow truck driver so I paid the ransom and left - for good. Gold City Supermarket I like you. I was in Flushing last weekend for some soup dumplings and found this supermarket by accident. Now, I have been to a couple of Chinese supermarkets and I am amazed at the variety of products that I am not familiar with. It is a good size supermarket and it was packed on a Saturday afternoon. The seafood department was decent with a large variety of fish. Nothing goes to waste here; from head to tail and everything in between is for sale. They had razor clams for sale. Need to figure out how to cook for future purchases. Same goes for the meat department; every thing is for sale. Lamb, beef, pork, etc. all looking fresh with bright colors. Bought some thin sliced lamb. Need to find a recipe on FoodNetwork.com. Veggie department a home run here. Tons of produce at good prices. Bought some yu choy and bok choy that was delicious. Easy to cook and very fresh. Bright green and firm, I was amaze was the variety of dumplings. Did I say 20 plus types in the frozen section; 3 or 4 bags for 10 bucks. Sounds like a deal. Overall, this is a nice destination supermarket. Gold City Supermarket with it's private parking lot has an edge over other supermarkets in the area. This is now my new Trader Joe's, laugh out loud! I live walking distance from this supermarket and secretly, I really like it here. Why? Because they have awesome, awesome produce. I eat pretty much any vegetable or fruit you put in front of me and well this place is like an oasis for me. The fruits and vegetables are fresh and the prices are really really good. About half that of Whole Foods? Whoa... They also carry all things Asian, so if you're looking for sauces, noodles, dried goods, frozen items, snacks, this is the place for you. Gold City has been in the area for years already. I remember when this place used to be a Rite-Aid, which was like eons ago. I can't imagine how vastly different the Chinese community here would be if GC wasn't around and if it were still Rite-Aid. GC is a decent sized Asian supermarket stocked with lots common Asian products, poultry, and grocery. Produce is sometimes hit or miss. Prices here are higher compared to that of other supermarkets in Downtown Flushing. When it comes to checking out, cashiers can have attitude problems. This is your typical Asian supermarket with the smell of the ocean wafting through the air. You can even see some of the sea creatures still moving (not just the fish swimming in the tanks). A sign of freshness for sure. I usually find the produce here pretty fresh as well compared to another Asian supermarket in Flushing I used to go to. You can usually find everything you need here in one go and the prices are reasonable so it's very convenient. Everyone's comment about the parking lot is true though. There's a line just trying to turn in and you can easily clog up Kissena Ave trying to do so. Congratulations if you made it through that parking lot unscathed. Have been to this Asian Grocery store several times now. I love their fresh seafood options, including the Live Fishes (ex. Catfish, Carp, Tilapia etc). Their prices are also comparatively lower with all the other Asian Groceries. Love the fact that it also has a huge parking lot, which makes shopping a hell of a lot easier. Besides having the usual fresh veggies and noodles sections, they also have cutely decorated ceramic bowls and plates for your household items. This supermarket has everything you expect from a supermarket. Its huge and every single isle is stocked with a lot of food. Its just a great place to visit to walk through the isles and just see what items they have. The meats are fresh and there's always a lot of people buying it, so you know its gotta be fresh. What I don't like about the place is that the parking lot is really cramped and it feels like by parking there you might end up getting your car hit or scratched. A lot of times, its so crowded, that cars are blocking you from exiting. Its a really crowded supermarket so expect a crowded parking lot. I end up parking outside on the streets. Not bad, found garlic stems here that are hard-to-find otherwise in the NYC area. While the place is a bit far off the beaten path of most people that go to Flushing from outside the area, it's worth a trip if you have a car to pop in here... but like Michelle C. said - watch your car. It is a tight parking lot. That being said, they have a fairly decent, open space lanes inside and not too crazy in the way of people pushing and shoving other than at the meat counter, of course. Their prices aren't bad at all, and I liked the dragonfruits they had. Will have to look more carefully through here - didn't find the snacks (jelly) that was looking for, but maybe it's in a different corner? If you've gone to Asian supermarkets in New York City, specifically Flushing where there are quite a few options to choose from, then you'll see similarities at Gold City. Years ago, Gold City use to be a Rite Aid. What a change. The parking situation is a mess at the parking lot here because of Gold City especially during the weekends. With traffic of cars, buses, and then people go in and out of the Gold City and the other businesses in the area, be prepared. Prices here are good but you won't find all your organic crap here if you're looking for that. Honestly don't care but I do wish they had more yogurt brands but that's wishful thinking on my part. The layout is standard with aisles being labeled and the fruits and veggies in one section and the meat, poultry, and fish in another. Aisle width is better compared to J Mart in downtown area and the Sky Foods at the Sky View Mall. The quality of the fruits and vegetables are hit or miss so you'll have to search to find the good apple (see what I did there). I remember one time rummaging through kiwis to find one wasn't bruised. Looked like I was crazy. Is it spotless? Ha, definitely not but it's clean enough for me. Overally Gold City Supermarket is pretty decent, has most of the stuff I need and I've been shopping here for years. Hasn't changed one bit but it doesn't need to. The management of the supermarket is so mean!!!! If they have a sense that you park there and don't go to their place FIRST, and shop there for AT LEAST 30 MINUTES, your car will get towed or booted. The best way to reward them is by NOT SPENDING A PENNY AT THEIR PLACE. Gold City Supermarket is good for two things: fresh produce and frozen dumplings. The produce is clean, vibrant, cheap and the selection is excellent. They even offer a lot of fruit hybrids. I've never heard of them but they looked really good. As for the dumplings, they had a whole section of them and if I didn't have to go so far, I would have bought a bag or two. Gold City offers aisles of every Asian culture's cuisine. I found the Filipino section a bit lacking and after circling the supermarket a few times in search of a specific boxed Japanese chestnut cake I realized I was not going to find what I was looking for. After all, I was in a Chinese grocery store and the emphasis was mostly on items Chinese. The place is chaotic but go figure. Your dollar can go a long way at Gold City and if all the items you take home remind you of the mother land then all the better. I walked around with my friends and we all filled our baskets with things we did not initially plan on buying. For sh*ts n giggles, I recommend studying the packaging on some of the items sold. It's pretty amusing - some of the marketing tactics and English translations. My one issue with Gold City Supermarket was the seafood section. Yes they have fresh fish and it's like it just came off of the boat, but I don't think customers should be using their bare hands to pick up their choices. The parking lot is madness on weekends! Try to park on a side street and walk around... unless you want to risk getting a love tap on your car or having someone double park behind you and refuse to move because they "have a right to be there as much as you". With that said... they have the goods of a typical chinese supermarket exceeeppptt after 8pm all produce are discounted! I don't know how much because one time the broccoli I bought was half off and another time I bought some water spinach that was 20% off. My history of being drawn to this neighborhood to shop was spawned by some of the good places to eat along Kissina Blvd, introduced to my by my neighbors. Different neighbors have taken me to different neighborhoods to show me some of their specialty stores, where items they grew up with are still open for business and still shoveling items over the counters that are for sale, generally under management of the next generation. I think it gives them a sense of pride to be so knowledgeable about the history of the foods they grew up on, typically in the country that they were raised in. In Forest Hills, there is no shortage on nationality diversity. Polish, Italian, German, Armenian, Russian, Chinese, Tawianese and more. On this day I was in tow with my Chinese neighbor who made a comfortable living for himself in China in the medical devices field. Off we went to Flushing where most all of the neighborhood is comprised of Chinese businesses and Gold City is no exception. With quality produce, non perishables and a fish section that is second to none I am aware of, the Chinese do know quality and demand no less from the merchants they shop from. Isn't it such a glorious and uplifting experience to stroll the aisles of low cost, high quality fruits and vegetables. Some that you may recognize and some that you probably never heard of. (Isn't that a lyric to a Kinks song?) When you enter Gold City for the first time, I advise you to not look left to the abundance of fish and shelled crustations. Look right and continue toward the back. Even if you never cooked fish and your only knowledge of fish was Gary Coleman's goldfish 'Abraham' in the 1970's TV sit com Different Strokes, you can easily become mesmerized as the displayed, choice cuts and whole fish have some aquariums jealous. Rows upon rows of canned and packaged goods that I have never seen before, yet know that in my kitchen's refrigerator or spice rack, they will be used many times over. The hardest part is making that first purchase of a product that you just don't know what to do with and unfortunately the staff is not bilingual for the most part. To adequately describe the fish area that I encouraged you to not look straight into, like a welders torch would do it an injustice. I left a bag of groceries and went back to ask for it; it was only a few dollars of stuff. I honestly expected that they'd say they don't have it but it's that the lady was so rude that pissed me off. She could have at least pretended to look and then shooed me away. I remember once I asked for chicken wings in English and I heard the guy say to his coworker, "Kids these days don't know Chinese. How you Chinese but not speak any of it!" RUDE MUCH???? My dad use to work for them too in the meat department and he left because he couldn't take how rude and disrespectful his coworkers were. I didn't understand at first how coworkers can be rude to each other, NOW I FULLY UNDERSTAND! If this wasn't the only supermarket that I can go to to buy groceries for my BF's house, I wouldn't go here.
