HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR. MOYNIHAN! This is something I've been wanting to do for over a decade and finally decided to bite the bullet before the mask mandate ends. Just incase I look crazy or need to hide the swelling. Turns out I barely needed the mask! I had rhinoplasty/septoplasty surgery done 3 weeks ago and could not be happier. Aside from minor swelling in the tip (which can take up to a year to fully subside), I can see the shape and I'm already satisfied with results. My recovery was a little uncomfortable the first 3 days post op, but I had zero pain and only took a 1/4 of the prescribed painkiller the first day of surgery - just to be safe. I felt great with the exception of minor swelling and bruises around my eyes/nose - both painless and diminished within a week. The cast removal was 7 days following my surgery and aside from looking a little swollen, I was immediately comfortable in public and with seeing my friends/family! My overall experience to date has been 10x better than what I had in mind and I could not be more satisfied. My nose is no longer running constantly throughout the day and I feel like my breathing is more balanced! It has been life changing. If you want your Rhinoplasty butchered this is the DR for you! I too fell for all the great reviews Dr.Moynihan had. I waited quite some time to write this review with the hopes that maybe I just needed longer to fully heal than most because. I was told by the Dr. I had very thick nose skin. Let me start off the review by saying, some pro's & con's are Pro's - I loved the work that I had seen online, his natural approach to a nose job. I had a very "Greek" nose, & my biggest concern was the hump from my profile view. Con's - Doesn't accept any type of insurance 12k for a nose job when average rate is 4-8k makes you pay if you'd like a revision I was originally turned off by the lack of face on shots posted on their website & when I had asked to see the front photoshop image as well as the side profile one (which I received & was happy with the potential outcome) I don't recall the excuse given but they couldn't provide one. (I had a rhinoplasty + deviated septum "fixed" even though my breathing now is worse than it was before) Surgery was smooth, recovery was uncomfortable but easy. I had my nose done by Dr.Moynihan December 2021. When I had my follow up appointment I was immediately concerned because although my visible "nose hump" was gone, the tip of my nose was NON existent. Just one very huge swollen sausage on the center of my face. As the months passed & I continued going to checkups the "swelling" wasn't subsiding much. Which Dr.Moynihan recommended injecting my nose with a steroid I believe to essentially eat away at swelling. (Thank god I got a second opinion by another plastic surgeon whom informed me he rarely if ever offers these injections because they seldom only eat away at and I quote "the bad scar/swelling tissue and do more harm than good" ) When I had gone to my follow up early after surgery I was gaslit & told "no your nose isn't crooked it's simply swollen." Im nearly at year 2 in my healing journey and my nose is still just as fat & just as crooked. Dr. Moynihan was well aware of all my concerns & how unhappy I was with my nose. My before nose had a narrow bridge, and cute nose tip. My current nose is nearly 3x the original width with a non-existent tip, a weird scarring flap that looks like a permanent booger, and CROOKED. When asking what options I had of course he recommended a revision that I would have to pay for, now I knew this from the beginning but the fact that this was a mistake made by his hands and his fault It left a sour taste in my mouth that he would essentially leave my nose unfishinished and ask me to pay to fix his shitty work. Rhinoplasty is a difficult and personal procedure. I had my rhinoplasty done by Dr. Moynihan and I couldn't have imagined better results. The after pictures I attached were taken the day I got my cast off, 7 days post-op. I may have got lucky with have an easy, quick recovery but I followed his after care instructions religiously. Dr. Moynihan's whole team including anesthesiologists, patient coordinator, practice manager, surgery tech's, nurse, basically everyone I came in contact with throughout the whole process were such a joy to work with and always made me feel comfortable and even had some good laughs on the day of surgery that helped calm my nerves. Although skeptical at first, I did a virtual consultation because of the pandemic and Dr. Moynihan was so confident in his ability give me the results I wanted. I was reassured that I chose the right doctor after years of research and previously bad consultation experiences with other doctors in the Chicagoland area. Even though it was virtual, he was able to align my ideas with what he can do, perfectly. I got a digital rendering of what he planned for my nose to look like and it was so perfect, I thought it was too good to be true but the results ended up looking the exact same as the rendering. This review is long overdue. I found Dr. Moynihan 10 years ago and after being talked out of getting rhinoplasty twice, I finally went through with it in May 2021. I hated my nose since I was a teenager, was bullied because of it and has very low self esteem. I decided to go with Dr. Moynihan because he is all about giving you the most natural results. If you want something and he feels like it won't suit your face, he will not do it. He is very down to earth, genuinely kind and really listens to your concerns. I wanted a rhinoplasty for well over a decade but the task of finding the perfect fit in a sea of plastic surgeons in Chicago is daunting to say the least. I noticed his "after" pictures were all... different... but in the BEST way. Every nose looked different because he crafted the nose to be fitting for each individual! Dr. Moynihan performed a Rhinoplasty/Septoplasty on me a little over a month ago and I'm thrilled with the results so far. Dr Moynihan is a ONE OF A KIND!! I had two previous Rhinoplasties from a very well know Dr and I was extremely unhappy. My nose was crooked, too long and collapsing. Today, is my one year anniversary since my rhinoplasty and I couldn't be happier!! Dr. Moynihan and his team changed my life. This was a revision rhinoplasty so I was extremely nervous going into it. Katie Ziemba was the coordinator and cosmetic manager I worked with. She was sweet, honest and genuinely focused on ensuring my comfort and knowledge of the entire process. After reviewing the paperwork from my previous doctors, they informed me they need to do use rib cartilage since my septum was used in my prior surgery. I wanted to be sure I didn't look like I got a nose job and that the change fit my face. I also didn't want to lose my exotic look and Dr Moynihan found the perfect balance. Dr. Moynihan is a skilled surgeon, as long as money is no object.  My husband suffered a traumatic nasal fracture after a crash during a bicycle race.  After having a closed reduction by an ENT, my husband was referred to Dr. Moynihan for a rhinoplasty to correct the deformity that was preventing him from breathing out of one side of his nose. I confirmed with our insurance company that Dr. Moynihan was indeed in-network. Our coverage included plastic surgery for cancer, birth defects and trauma.  We went for his consultation with Dr. Moynihan and a surgical plan was made.  After the exam, we were brought into the office to discuss the financials with Susan.  Susan went over the charges for the surgery. She stated what the fees were for the surgery and had us sign the appropriate paperwork stating we were responsible.  I stated per the insurance, this would be covered at 100%. Seeing as my husband had met his deductible and was almost to his maximum out of pocket for the year, from all the bills from the accident, we did not expect a significant out of pocket. She stated the insurance didn't always cover their fees and I stated I spoke with the insurance and had confirmed the coverage, so my husband went ahead and signed the paperwork accepting responsibility for payment. We had to pay Dr. Moynihan's $8000.00 fee up front, but were expecting a refund once the claim was submitted and processed by the insurance. What was not explained to us was Dr. Moynihan charges a premium above and beyond what our insurance covered.  We had no idea an in-network physician could have you sign paperwork that waived your rights to insurance. If we understood this fee was a premium that we were solely responsible for, we would have sought care from another plastic surgeon.  We chose Dr. Moynihan based on the referral AND because he was an in-network physician. We had paid a significant amount for my husband's emergency bills and, may I add, we pay the full premium for our insurance as my husband is retired so we wanted to make sure he was in-network to minimize our further cost. What added insult to injury was there were several months between the consultation and the actual surgery due to the nature of my husband's injury.  During that time, there were several phone calls back and forth between the insurance, Dr. Moynihan's office staff, and myself. I continued to question the billing and the coverage by the insurance.  I continued to say to Dr. Moynihan's staff that his fee would be covered at 100% by the insurance.  These conversations gave Dr. Moynihan's staff ample opportunity to clarify that this $8000.00 fee was solely our responsibility and not something they submitted to the insurance, but they never did. These conversations went on until the night before his surgery when I received written authorization from the insurance company for the procedure. After the surgery, I received the EOB from the insurance.  The charge was less than what we paid up front and I mistakenly thought this was due to the surgery taking less time than was originally scheduled.  I know OR billing is in 15 minute increments after the first hour.  The insurance was billed $6575.28 and the amount covered was $2342.44 with our portion being $234.23.  I expected a refund of the $8000 less this amount.  To my surprise I was told there would be no refund.  In fact, in response to my inquiry I was told. "You asked how insurance coverage would be handled for the $8000 surgeon's fee. I explained that any additional coverage would need to come in the form of a reimbursement after the procedure. You were confident that a significant portion would be covered so I noted again that I have not seen more that $2,000-$3000 total coverage even in the most extreme cases. I also noted that Dr. Moynihan is not the only doctor who performs these procedures and there my be another doctor who could do a decent job within the limitations of insurance coverage." Even in this emailed reply from Susan, you can see the ambiguity of lumping the $8000.00 fee with the $2,000-$3,000 the insurance company would cover.  The $2,000-$3,000 coverage was for the amount billed the day of surgery and had nothing to do with the separate $8,000 fee paid up front.  Stating the insurance would cover any portion of the $8,000 was completely misleading since this amount was Dr. Moynihan's premium and was not submitted to the insurance. Never once prior to surgery or even in the above quoted response from Susan after the procedure, was it explained that an in-network physician was not obligated to accept the in-network contract limitations that would limit the fee charged.  I found out the hard way the piece of paper my husband signed essentially waived the insurance obligation Dr. Moynihan had as an in-network physician.  A little bait and switch for those of us not savvy in the ways of insurance billing, even though he advertises himself as an in-network physician. read more

He botched my primary rhinoplasty/septoplasty 6 years ago and I finally got my secondary revision this month from a different surgeon! He overdid my nasal dorsum and my profile looked like a ski slope (I.e., over resected for my facial aesthetic), my nostrils were two different sizes, and my right nostril was still significantly deviated causing difficulty breathing which was the most important reason for getting the surgery in the first place. My nose was overdone so much by dr. Moynihan my new surgeon for my revision had to use rib cartilage to build it back up. Lastly, my tip was not refined correctly and others could see up my nostrils. I chose someone else in Chicago to do my revision. Dr Moynihan also made me cry before my surgery by telling me we weren't doing what I had thought the surgery originally was going to be. I considered going back to him to do my revision but it just didn't make sense as I lost his trust and did not appreciate what he did to my nose. Maybe other people had a good experience with him but I did not. Just wanted to put this out there for people considering him for a rhinoplasty, but I understand every patient and case is different and the surgery doesn't guarantee results. Just consider my review when you are searching for a rhinoplasty surgeon in Chicago so you don't have to pay $10,000 to fix the mess this doctor may make to your face- remember that. Would not recommend. The nurse, I believe her name was Kimberly, didn't use numbing cream even though i had asked for it. This was my first time getting filler so when i first got them done, I thought they looked amazing so I made an appointment to get some more injected 2 weeks later. Because she did not use numbing cream and the pain was excruciating, I was getting very bad anxiety about coming back so i called to cancel my appointment. When calling back, I mentioned this to the person on the phone and she was quite confused because they do in fact offer numbing cream. At this point i was thinking that she probably just was rushing and didn't wanna wait the 10 minutes for the numbing cream to set in. Very unprofessional. In addition to this, Kimberly injected the filler way too high on my lips causing a dark overlaying shadow. For a nurse that was supposedly hand picked by Dr Moynihan and had over 13 years of experience, absolutely did not know what she was doing. This place is very unprofessional and has no idea what they are doing when it comes to lip injections. Office was clean and staff was friendly but service was very very disappointing. I have hesitated for a long time to write this, as I always told myself that I will eventually enjoy the results of my rhinoplasty. However, its been over a year and half since my surgery and I could not be more unhappy. I am over $10k in the hole with results that make me want to cry each time I think about it. When I went back for my one year follow-up, I expressed my deep dissatisfaction with the results. They did reach out to me schedule a revision, however, I would have to pay other fees such as anesthesia. I was angry and at that point did not have the funds and hesitated putting my body through that again. Not t mention the time off from work I'd have to take off again. I felt like I should not have to go through a SECOND surgery after spending $10k. I trusted this surgeon and that was a mistake. After my surgery, I received more bills. I feel botched. I went to Gold Coast Plastic Surgery for rhinoplasty and septoplasty in July 2017. I had been researching doctors in NYC, Connecticut, and Chicago- I chose Dr. Moynihan because the before-and-afters on his website were very natural and he understood that I wanted to maintain my look with more refined, sleek nose. I am Lebanese-Italian, had a big hump on my nose and a long tip that went off to one side. I wanted to still maintain an ethnic look, but I wanted a more feminine, less severe nose. At my consultation, they took photos and then imaged the pictures to what the intended look was. I instantly loved what they came up with- and my actual results are even better. The consultation was thorough, and all of my questions were answered. A few different dates were offered to me. Also, the payment information was extremely clear. I first met the doctor in May 2017 and had the surgery 2 months later. After the consultation, I had one more appointment to go over things and make sure that the doctor and I were on the same page. In terms of surgical instructions, you receive clear guidelines by email about how to prepare for surgery, supplements to get, prescriptions (they get your pharmacy info and send that in for you- they're super on top of things), food to have after surgery.. and instructions for pre- and post-surgery. If you follow the instructions, you will be set- my mom was so thrilled he even included details like getting vitamin C to prevent catching a cold before surgery and certain things to take before and after surgery to help with swelling and bruising. The day of surgery was seamless. I was really nervous, but everyone at the surgical center was lovely. Dr. Moynihan was reassuring and honest about what it will be like. He said it will be uncomfortable, not exactly painful. He went out to talk to my mom while I was in the post-op room. He called us the evening after surgery and a couple of days later to check in. It is evident how experienced he is, as he seems to answer questions before you even ask. He is realistic and amazing at what he does. My nose is amazing- it's natural and I seriously look just like myself before with a softer nose. My friends couldn't figure out what was different at first. STAY AWAY!!! While Dr Moynihan is a great surgeon I'm sure, his office staff are extremely rude and such a distaste to work with. Dr Moynihan is not the one who draws the mock ups- as it is something the coordinator, Susan does and he just signs off... VERY weird. I've been to a couple other surgeons who specifically walk through creating the renderings with you to ensure goals do align. This office takes the approach of hearing your concerns, then going and drawing up your mock up and then presenting it to you about 20 mins later. What you see is what you get by the way. No tweaks or minor adjustments will be made to your renderings which is quite pathetic when you're spending 10k+. Susan told me at the time of booking the consultation, that if I was to put down my date for surgery on the day of my consultation, I would get $1000 off. When I actually came in for my consultation, Susan told me that changed to $500 off. When I asked if she would honor the $1k, she told me she would have just up-charged the actual procedure. That goes to tell me that the $500 off is not actually a discount, but is the actual price of the rhinoplasty and the $500 is an added charge if you don't put the date down at consultation. When I left my consultation, I was awaiting some additional renderings, therefore Susan told me that they would honor my $500 off still as I was ready to book. When it came to actually booking, the invoice they charged me included the $500 and said they would not honor that anymore. During that time of asking why the $500 charge was on my account (2 hours), Susan had given away my time slot to someone else for the surgery. Now being that I don't have much time off work, this was the only week that I could accommodate to so it was super frustrating that they would go and give my appointment slot away since I had been on the waitlist for a month already! I am super disappointed by this whole customer experience and find it quite embarrassing on their part. I receive better customer service at Nordstroms.. They will tell you their staff has helped "thousands" of others as a way to make up for the bad review and it must be a "miscommunication". While I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt most times, this is just unacceptable as the patient to be treated in the way that I have by their office staff. Dr. Moynihan has magic hands. I was really skeptical about having cosmetic surgery, and under taking general sedation. I even researched going out to beverly hills as the surgeons out there have a lot more before and after pics (higher volume). But in the end, I stuck it out here in chicago. Everything from pre-op care, to post-op care was perfect, and most importantly the results are nothing short of amazing. In general, I am not sure I would recommend a lower bleph for everyone (aka cases where it is not that needed - solely because of the risk - although it is a routine surgery) - but in my case, i had inherited some pretty extreme hollows. I was not expecting what was delivered but i can surely say, I look like I did in my late 20's and I am in my early 40's. So I am VERY impressed. Further, I highly recommend continuous cold therapy and red light therapy after surgery. I did the cold therapy for 6 days straight with a unit called Arctic Ice (almost every waking hour) from a company called pain management technologies. They also had a face mask that was PERFECT for the post-surgical face. And also I got their red light. I did red/infrared light twice a day 5-8 min each time. Between this, chicken soup, vitamins and tons of rest, the rehab was smooth. By and large - TRUST Dr. Moynihan. He is confident and knows what he is doing just as good as any face-up surgeon in the nation. I had fillers done twice now by him in my lips, chin and under eye area and each time I've been there both Dr. Moynihan and the staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. I had a septoplasty by an ENT 15 years ago to fix a deviated septum. Over time the overall appearance of my nose had become progressively worse and I was unable to breath out of my left nostril and my nose made a whistling noise (that's fun). I had Dr. Moynihan perform a revision rhinoplasty in July. I am beyond thrilled with my outcome. My nose looks great and I can breath again without extra noises. The main reasons I chose Dr. Moynihan were that he is double-board certified in ENT and plastics, he specializes in facial plastics only, and the sheer volume of rhinoplasties/revision rhinoplasties he performs. My initial consultation with him went well and he answered all my questions in a professional and knowledgeable manner. After surgery he calls you personally and his office staff also calls. For the first year and a half I lived in Chicago, I visited several different doctors for my botox. Nobody was on par with my previous doctors until I found Dr. Moynihan. He was patient and took all the time needed to explain the process and answer any questions I had. The surgery was easier to recover from then I feared and actually had minimal pain. He also calls you at home to check on you and is easily accessible if needed. **Non-surgical nose job**. I contacted Dr. Moynihan's office regarding filler in my nose to soften a bump that seems to be getting worse and worse as I get older. First of all, the staff was fantastic and very accommodating even looking at pictures of me before I came in to spend the money on a consult. I did a ton of research into plastic surgeons in Chicago and it was clear that Dr. Moynihan is the nose expert and it was also important to me to find someone who was board certified in facial plastics. Once meeting with Dr. Moynihan, what I liked most is his honesty about what to expect and what he should or should not do even if it meant that I left without doing any work at all. He also treated me with respect and gave me the time I needed even though I was spending less than a 10th of his actual rhinoplasty patients. With non surgical nose jobs you can expect improvements but not perfection, which is exactly what I wanted. He was also honest about wanting to do rhinoplasty which I may consider in the future. But for now the filler softened my appearance and eliminated the harshness of the bump that seems to be getting worse. I am so happy for such a little amount of money and just a few needle injections! No down time at all. I read these other reviews and I think they are speaking of someone else. Dr. Moynihan is charming, handsome, kind and empathetic. He is a perfectionist which is a prerequisite to being a plastic surgeon. He is a one of the rare plastic surgeons who just specializes in faces. He does not do it all like most of the PS's do. I respect him for that. Although I have not had plastic surgery, I would have him do mine any day, any time! His staff is always amazing!! They just want you to do surgery and send more $$$! 5 minutes consultation, they charged me 150 dollars. Come on, he is more expensive than a lawyer! He didn't spend time to look at my nose and think if there is any other way to enhance my figure. He seems has a lot of patients and doesn't care if you want to get filler here or not. I was extremely nervous about getting a chin implant and liposuction to my neck. I met with Dr. Moynihan over the summer (2015) and then did the surgery in November 2015. I found Dr. Moynihan to be gentle, sweet, thoughtful, and very careful. He was upfront about the entire process, made sure I had my questions answered, gave honest feedback about what he would suggest for me, and listened carefully to what I wanted as the final result. He certainly isn't what you'd expect to get in a plastic surgeon, and I was very happily surprised! He has been really wonderful. The surgery went extremely well, and while recovery was harder than I expected, I'm THRILLED with my results. It wasn't cheap, but it was so worth it for me. I've been bothered by my chin since I was a teenager and I'm so glad I finally did something about it. The change has made me more confident and comfortable in my own skin. I love it! Katie was great to work with. I think they probably overload her with work and patients to manage, so I think she could probably use some help -- I feel like it would sometimes take her quite a while to get back to me, so perhaps they should consider getting a second patient coordinator so everyone feels like their case is being given the utmost attention and priority.
