There are over 50 languages spoken at the school with a constant flow of immigrant and refugee families. Given these challenges the teachers, staff and administration work tirelessly to meet the needs of these children. All students take drama, music and dance in addition to academics. While state test scores may lag behind the general population when one looks at year to year gains it is clear the teachers are doing an amazing job. It is easy to generalize from test scores without digging into the whole picture. I will send my child there as soon as they are old enough. I want them to learn to negotiate the real world and make friends from a diverse group of children.

Student achievement has worsened from D to F since she came to her position. In 2018 rankings, just 2% of students read at grade level. The school scored in the bottom 5% of all NM Title 1 schools, and has been targeted as needing level two NMPED intervention. Clearly Sigmon's record shows her to be a vastly overrated educator with friends in APS administration.

She is always busy, and the staff are fully engaged with the kids. The current Site Director at Comanche ES, Josh R., is amazing and just seems to "get" kids. But maybe even more impressive was the reaction of the central office several years ago when I was disappointed with the past Site Director. They immediately engaged with her to provide direction and assistance. Did it make everything perfect? No, but it was improved and they really tried to help without making me feel bad. But the best review? My daughter wants to go every day during the summer instead of sleeping in and playing video games!

I went to that school from preschool (they called it k-4 when I was in it) all the way up until 8th grade. There were many different principals while I was there but my experience with one of them, Mrs. Cordova, was the most memorable and was my main reason for such a hateful review. She would often take advantage of the fact that I was not only stupid as a preteen, but that I was always the one being walked all over. She had been my 2nd grade teacher, and not long after became the principal. She tried to get me to be a mediator for a group of girls in my class that caused the most issues and were the main bullies in the school at the time. She also never suggested solutions or helped in any way when it came to academic problems. At the time, the math teacher was one of her close friends and she would, in fact, "play the devils advocate" whenever anyone said any sort of issue they had with the math teacher, including with her own son. Different children have different needs and some are more sensitive than others. It was not helpful or kind of her to always try and pin the blame on me for not understanding what the teacher was teaching. They would suggest tutoring but a middle schooler and a high schooler being put together for tutoring doesn't work well OFTEN. High schoolers can and DO get distracted easily, especially in an environment where they are not allowed to get distracted or talk much with their friends until lunchtime which was when tutoring was. This school was not helpful unless you were one of the really academically strong kids, and that was my issue. It also was not a very okay environment to be gay in, especially when it was covid and it felt like the world was ending. It was not a good experience for me overall, but I would like to apologize about the hateful and disrespectful review. It doesn't reflect the person that I am now. Please just be mindful of your children and remember, every sin is seen the same in God's eyes and we don't chastise or intimidate our children and relatives for eating bacon like we have gay people for being gay. Truly love each other and do not judge, we do not have the right to only God can. TO NOTE: THIS DAYCARE EXCHANGES WAIVED FEES FOR POSITIVE REVIEWS…read moreThis daycare - run by Owner and Executive Director Crystal Tapia and her family members who are in all the administrative staff roles, is an overall disappointment, untrustworthy, unsafe and very clearly more interested in the money they are able to bring in instead of the families they are working with or children they are "caring for." The two main problems we experienced with this daycare - 1. there is a lot of dishonesty and shady behavior regarding money - it is clearly their sole concern and 2. children safety and supervision is severely lacking. First, the money. There were several instances in which we were given incorrect tuition and fee information, repeatedly, by administrative staff only to find out the fees were much more upon required payment. We were among many families who received this tuition information - which is a huge deciding factor when choosing a daycare - only to find out when payment was requested that the tuition was actually higher. No apologies were issued, no courtesy credits or compromises given to make things right for the families who had budgeted for the prior amount. We escalated this to Crystal, hoping she would offer some sort of a solution, explanation or further our understanding of the miscommunication and how it can be avoided moving forward. She offered no explanation or apology. She sat in our meeting with her arms crossed and a smirk on her face. She told us that if she were to honor the price we were given by her staff (on multiple, separate occasions over the course of several months) then SHE WOULD HAVE TO FIRE SOME OF HER TEACHERS at the center because she wouldn't be able to afford the $100-$200 dip in revenue per month. Her offered solution was if we didn't like the new secret price we could find a new daycare. This cold and dismissive response - along with the insulting, blatant lie about having to fire teachers to rectify the situation, from the Owner/Executive Director of the daycare (not to mention COUNCIL MEMBER OF THE EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AND CARE DEPARTMENT AND TREASURER OF THE NEW MEXICO CHILD CARE AND EDUCATION ASSOCIATION) was absolutely appalling. The dishonesty and lack of concern should have been insight enough as to the type of establishment this was -despite the beautiful quote about God leading the daycare in the entryway. But we found a way to pay the higher tuition since our child had already been established and we didn't want to uproot. Throughout our time there, we were consistently harassed to purchase expensive Gala tickets to support one of Crystal's causes, as well as 5k tickets and other fundraisers that I have a very low level of trust and confidence as to where the money was actually going, given our experience. Now, to the child safety and lack of supervision. Our young child was bullied often in the classroom as well as on the playground. In the classroom, there was one child in particular who hit, bit, shoved, screamed, etc, at our child among others. Of course, I am a parent and fully understand that these things happen with small children. The issue was brought to the attention of the teacher multiple times, as our child was consistently coming home with marks. We were told they would try to keep this child away from our child, but there wasn't much they could do. We were also told that the bully had autism and his behavior was CAUSED by our child, because our child was too loud and the bully was sensitive to noise. Our child also ran into some bullying on the playground, as the small children were let out on the playground at the same time as the older kids and after-school program kids. Again, nothing they could do. Crystal often had media on the daycare campus to interview her or promote one of her causes/fundraisers - often on the playground. I wonder if less effort went in to her self-promotion, and more effort went into the supervision of our children, if there would have been less incidents. I am grateful, however, for our experience with Crystal and her family/staff, as we have learned in great detail what we would like to avoid at all costs in future daycares and schools.

We have noticed that the well-being and education of the children in their care is not their top priority and that they seem more focused on making money. We have also observed that NMELA mistreats their good teachers while putting poor-performing family members in charge of the facility. It is concerning that they do not have enough teachers to adequately watch over the children, despite advertising a low student-teacher ratio. We highly recommend entrusting your children's care to qualified professionals who prioritize their well-being and education. Unfortunately, NMELA appears to be more concerned with their public image than fulfilling their role as an educational institution. Noah's ark is professionally-managed. My only negative is that sometimes the teachers are passive aggressive with the parents when it comes to communicating how the kids were for the day or any needs they may have. We never heard of any investigations, have spoken with several teachers there (past and present) and the kids have all been regulars that I have seen for the past three years. The place is clean and well-maintained. Some of the play equipment could use updating but I have not witnessed any hazards that warrant this place unsafe.
