Only several months after they installed the bathtub, the caulking they used around the tub cracked and disintegrated. And, I learned today from a plumber that the bathtub itself was not put in properly-- they did not use a mortar bed! This is one of many examples of the corner cutting and sloppy work from Marin VIP Builders. I waited too long to file a complaint with the Oregon CCB. My advice: look elsewhere for your contractor.

We hired Isaac and team to replace our kitchen counter tops, install tile back splash, and install…read morenew kitchen sink/faucet. We have a smaller kitchen (about 25 sq ft of counter top space). Photos show before on the left (or top), and after on the right (or bottom). The work was completed March 2024. Isaac was honest, straight forward, patient, and quick to respond to questions or concerns. His recommendations (e.g., 3cm thick quartz counter top), though expensive, were high-quality and ultimately a decision we do not regret. The sub-contractors were respectful and took their time, and did excellent work. Some additional details: For insurance purposes, we wanted the invoice of the kitchen counter tops. After several requests, Isaac was able to get this to us. We suspect the delay on this was due to the subcontractor: The invoice was issued by the vendor (Architectural Surfaces), addressed to the counter-top subcontractor, and had to be obtained from the subcontractor. Isaac was very professional, patiently replying to our several requests, and ultimately delivered the invoice. The project start date was delayed about 2-3 days due to cutting/delivery of the counter tops, but Isaac was quick to let us know this and quick to reschedule the start date. The counter tops and sink were installed in about 1-2 days, and the tile back splash and detail work took about 2 more days. I believe the work started on a Thursday and was completed by Sunday. Delays like these may not work for some people, but they were not a problem for us; it was very convenient that Isaac's team could come in on the weekend to complete the work. We did not get other bids on this kitchen-counter remodel, but we did have Isaac submit a bid for a master-bath remodel. Comparing his bid to two others, we can say his pricing is competitive.

He was very slow and ran us way over budget (he essentially billed us 89.00 per hour to put in tile, and he seriously billed us for 48 hours of tile work to put in 45 pieces of 12x24 tile). When we would ask for estimates to finish, he gave an estimate, and then took twice as long as his estimate. When we confronted him, he literally said, it's time and materials, it is what it is. We finally had him stop work when he was close to 50% over our original estimate (and he STILL wasn't finished). The final quality of work was so bad, we had to hire a new contractor and have all the tile torn out and start over. Be careful!

Remodeling a kitchen is a pretty major under taking, and was quite an investment for us, so we…read morewanted to go with someone we felt confident with, and after our first meeting with Jerry and Issac, (a meeting totally set around our schedule, btw) we felt like a team. Often, with contractors, after everything is signed you never see the owners again. Not the case with PPB, the owners, and project manager were there everyday, checking in, and documenting the progress. Speaking of progress, our full-kitchen remodel was finished 4 weeks ahead of schedule, and included many cool features and ideas they included in the design. PPB also greatly minimized the pain-in the butt that goes with having major construction done about ten feet from your bedroom. They sectioned off the entire work area with double sided tarp, and had lock box, so we had a lot of privacy and relatively little dust through out the job, (and left the place every night way cleaner than it was before we hired them). This kind of endeavor is never easy, there's always problems, and they handled all of them with ease and grace. (At least on our end) In fact for us, that's one of the best qualities about PPB is that they soak up all the headaches involved in a project of this scope; permits, inspections, a multitude of (borderline unreasonable) requests from their clients, all taken care of with a "no problem" attitude. And our kitchen looks better than we ever imagined. Highly recommend.

Once they tore into it, they found a leaky pipe, rotten sub floor and a ceiling to repair down stairs. Even with these surprise repairs, they remained close to their estimate. They took pictures along the way, and are willing to write up exactly what was wrong. Luis was the main man and his brother in law helped finish it up. They cleaned up everyday, made sure things were put away and there was nothing for us to take care of. They were respectful, and very trustworthy. Prior to the beginning of work, Jim gave us a spreadsheet detailing what would be done by who and when. Throughout the work, he communicated with us frequently advising us what was happening and what would be done next. He worked with us all the way through, helping us make the necessary decisions that we needed to make and purchase the things that we agreed to purchase. One of the support beams was on its last leg as it has suffered dry rot. Alex quickly responded to my request for quote, came out the next day, and gave me a quote. He was very thorough with his inspection and gave me a no b.s. quote. There were several other companies I got quotes from but decided to go with Alex because of his straightforward answers and great customer service. Alex and his crew came the same week and did an amazing job on the project. They were very respectful of my property and placed everything back in their place. Their work was solid. Alex took pictures and send them to me as I was at work. After they were complete, they cleaned up the area well and placed everything back.
