Lunch at a lodge, fresh caught and smoked salmon, hiking a bit of that barely touched land. It's a bit of a walk to the Wings Airways check in and shop- not too bad, but longer thanks to construction. Check in was easy and they can hold bags for you to pick up when you return! Great since we had about 45 minutes to explore before boarding. We got Orange/Orcas group- they have a fleet and each plane seats about 10. I'm mad at myself for not paying attention to who our pilot was- June 22- 9:30am- he was excellent! Has been flying for 13 years, very smooth take off and landing! I knew that someone gets to ride up front with the pilot and my hand shot up so fast when the question was being asked! Birthday girl- me me, pick me. lol- yes, I got front seat- right next to the pilot! Prepare to be stunned. Simply, unequivocally, utterly in awe. I lost count of how many times I said wow. Five glaciers, plus tons of smaller glaciers, jagged mountain peaks and smoothed over mountains, the waterfalls!!! The rivers!!! I felt like my entire being couldn't comprehend the enormity of what I was seeing. Alaska made me feel so small in its vastness. Reminded me how little I've seen or done. Landing at the lodge, it is directly across from Hole in the Wall Glacier. The grounds are glorious- it was buggy outside- and the gracious hosts have bug spray on a barrel head right outside the front door. Our feast was incredible- smoked salmon, caught fresh right downstream from the lodge. A family owed property, they bring in 9 additional hands to work the summer and all stay on the property- self sustained. The food- my goodness. First, I have never been a fan of salmon- but there was no way I was eating chicken at an Alaskan Lodge! The salmon was delicious- cooked perfectly. Everything was delicious- the herbed biscuit- perfection. I tried the spruce tips oil in my iced tea and promptly bought a bottle to take home! And just when you are done your meal and enjoying the atmosphere, they bring out gingersnap cookies- freshly baked. Ginger is great for your stomach, even though I was stuffed, I thoroughly enjoyed the entire cookie. Next up, our naturalist took us on a short hike and talked about the flora and fauna, about the glacier, the local plants that they use daily. I broke from the group to check out the trickle of a waterfalls at the back of the property- enjoyed the quietness of the forest & was grateful for my hoodie to keep the mosquitos at bay. Return flight was just as spectacular. Alaska stole a piece of my heart for sure. Thank you to every staff member between the Wings and the Lodge! You were all fabulous!

From the air you can see how massive these sheets of ice are. It's also amazing to see the different patterns and colors they have. Flight was pretty much narrated by a recording, with the pilot jumping in every once in a while. Small planes, but seats were comfortable and it was really cool to take off and land on the water. (Much smoother than I would have expected). Everything was run very professional but it is a bit of a walk from the curse ship docks to the planes. Highly recommend!

No ear popping, it can be a little crowded, but the cool thing is your ticket is good all day and you can run up and down until the end of the day. Military discount is small, but if you have a good size group, it's worth it. There are a couple of amenities at the top. A a small cafe, a gift shop, a little auditorium that plays a movie about the history of the tram. We got up to the top. We went hiking on the small trail, but if you have it in your...you can hike up to Browns Cross and get an even better view of Juneau and the surrounding areas. And one ticket will allow you to do it early and then again later? Wow. The staff are friendly and keep things in order. They get you up pretty quickly. We had a good time, and I can see why it's a must do on Juneau lists. Recommend.

There's a $50 credit per tour that applies to the first guest through the "More at Sea" package. You'll also get Latitude Reward discounts depending on your tier. It somehow ended up costing less than $20 for both of us. It's also an all day pass, so you can go up & down as many times as you want. We were one of the first in line that morning. There were only 8 people in front of us. We watched as they were taking the staff up to the shop & resraurants. Before long, it was our turn. The tram was pretty packed with lots of standing room and very few seats. I chose to be on the outer edge with a great view. The climb is steep, and you do go straight up like an elevator for that last push to the top. To be honest, I've been on much higher gondolas (to the top of the Zugspitze near Garmisch). The Goldbelt Tram was an easy ride compared to that. I did like the commentary along the way. It was nice to hear fun facts & history as you're taking in the view of the channel and forest below. There is a gift shop, restaurant, bar, and theater as you get to the top. We opted to take on the Alpine Loop Trail early. We also made sure to stop at the Chilkat Theater to view the "Seeing Daylight" documentary. Don't miss that viewing. It's part of the whole experience. It really puts everything into perspective about the land and its people (Tlinget) who have lived here for centuries. You'll see an ongoing theme as you explore other Alaskan towns. It really ties it all together. We didn't get to try the restaurants. We thought it best to explore Downtown Juneau and the waterfront instead. It was a good decision. It was all very memorable! Wild Coast made the whole experience feel both thrilling and respectful to the wildlife. Wild Coast Excursions is the best opportunity to see bears in Juneau and probably Alaska! We were out on the water for about two hours and there were a few tail sightings, which were disappointing to me, but I completely accepted with a shrug. The interesting part though, was that everyone else on the boat was FREAKING OUT with happiness over those few tail sightings. They were running to the side of the boat and stretching over with their binoculars, they were laughing and smiling and basking in the Alaskan sun. Clearly the problem was mine! We booked Liquid Alaska Tours for our canoe experience as there were very little excursions…read moreavailable since we booked so last minute. We booked through Tripadvisor and the cost for the canoe for each person was about $230 each (pricey, I know). We were pretty bummed when we found out that our tour didn't include getting off the canoe to get up close to the glacier, especially since the price was quite steep. The photos on Tripadvisor and Viator show that the people do in fact get off the boat, but apparently it was incorrect (false advertisement imo). What I will say was the saving grace was the fact the scenery of this canoe ride was epic. There's a lot that can't be seen unless you take a helicopter, seaplane, kayak, or canoe up close to the Mendenhall Glacier. Our tour guide, Dawson was also great. He was full of dad jokes throughout the whole canoe ride. P.S. Don't think you're gonna get off this easy! The canoe ride was an exercise to say the least! My arms were sore the next day!
