Date of visit: July 18, 2025 We used Allen Marine Tours for a Glacier Viewing tour from the Disney Wonder Alaskan cruise. I don't know how much they have a say in the price, so I won't reference that here but instead focus on the great experience we had with the crew and boat for this excursion. First, hats off to this crew that appeared to be all-female, from the captain down to the cabin staff! Everyone was very friendly and helpful and the boat was comfortable and clean. Snack prices were actually quite affordable (all things considered) and I loved the variety of other items for sale, scoring some Alaskan salt for my brother-in-law for a future occasion. Also available were donut holes (terrible, don't eat) and salmon dip (actually quite good) at no cost. There was also the capturing of some glacier ice used to make some drinks, such as the Glacierita, which my mom said was good but very strong.
Lakeside - Fantastic Voyage. Anyone old enough to remember that song? Allen Marine Tours - Just DO IT!!! It was a FANTASTIC VOYAGE!! I was initially biting my nails out of anxiety for spending $300 a person ($900 without tips) for this side-excursion through Norwegian Cruise Line in Juneau but it was worth every penny. Some shore excursions you can book on your own, but we opted to go through the cruise line, because this boat pulls right up to the ship itself and you board directly from the cruise vessel onto Allen Marine! It was super cool. No tendering, no waiting in line to debark, no catching transportation to anywhere else, just step off the ship on Deck 4 (NCL). It's an all-day event, so you unless your cruise ship is in the port of Juneau for more than a day, you won't be able to do any other excursion as this is approximately a 7-hour tour. We got onto the boat at 3 PM and got back to the cruise ship by 9:30 PM (it was still light out in mid-May) THE BOAT: Manned by Capt Wyatt and Annalise, and a nice young man at the bar. - dual decks, up and down, covered. You can go on deck in open air too. Dress warm, it was doggone chilly up there with the wind. Hand got frozen trying to take pictures. There is some stair-climbing involved to go upstairs. We stayed downstairs so I had to keep running up and down the stairs to take pictures. The lower deck was spacious and comfy, and warm (see my pics for the stairs) - bathrooms (3 small closet-sized to the back of the boat behind the bar), darn, forgot to take pics. - sandwich lunch was provided in the price. It was a ham sando with a small bag of chip, plus bottled water. They offer complimentary hot chocolate, coffee, donut holes and toward the end some salmon dip on crackers (delicious!). - bar for imbibing (cash or credit). Don't forget to try the Glacierita, which is a blue margarita made from real glacier ice (450 yrs old ice) fished out of the ocean! It was actually very tasty, $12 each. I should have had more but didn't want to keep using the toilet. - no rocking, so no seasickness. - Annalise was awesome, giving history of the glaciers, the land, and the animals. CREATURES SEEN: - a huge flock of Eagles (a convocation, technically) fighting over fish in the ocean - Eagles vs a huge flock of seagulls looking for fish. - Pigeon Guillemots, very cute birds w/ bright red feet, and other birds such as Terns - A brown bear on the shore - Otters and seals (Annelise helped by pointing out the difference) - Whales in the distance; Allen Marine is one of the vessels tracking whales by going to Happywhale.com and identifying whales by their flukes (see my pic). The tracker online tracks whales going to/from Alaska/Hawaii and other parts of the world via sighting map and last seen, fascinating! THE VIEW: - not so impressive going to the glaciers - it took hours, but once in the Fjord and the North Sawyer Glacier, it was breath-taking. Hundreds of waterfalls spilling down from the mountains, icebergs floating in the ocean in different colors, the towering mountains, sea life. It was like the sound you hear in your mind when you see Valhalla. North Sawyer Glacier itself was interesting, but the scenery all around it were the stars! Large cruise ships cannot come into this area, so you'll need a company like Allen Marine to get you here. THE STAFF: - super nice and informative! Please tip them generously with cash. They have a generic tip jar at the bar, but at the end of the excursion, they all come and say goodbye to you at the exit, so you'll have an opportunity to tip them. RETURN FACTOR: a hundred percent yes, but cruises and excursions to Alaska are so expensive that this will probably be a once-in-a-lifetime thing, therefore strongly recommend forking out the money and do this, don't be cheap and miss out, this is truly spectacular! It was actually my favorite excursion of all time!! OTHER TIPS: - we went in mid-May, during the "shoulder season" so less crowds; this tour was not crowded in mid-May but your mileage may vary - not wheelchair friendly - young children may get bored on this excursion unless you bring some activities for them to do, like iPad/phone/toys - dress in layers, it's cold if you go up top to take pics or look around. the wind is pretty brutal. - take cash for tips and small purchases on board. - TAKE BINOCULARS!!! You're welcome.
Phenomenal cruise. During our two hours on the St Herman we saw: 1. Multiple whale surfacings (see photo), sorry don't remember the technical name. 2. Harbor porpoises, which we were told was very rare. 3. Sea Lions on a buoy, which other people have pictures of. The Captain and the naturalist narrator were excellent. Food by Alan was superb. As a bonus, not part of the tour, but on the bus ride home, we saw a black bear with two cubs. All in all an amazing day in Juneau, and would highly recommended this tour.
We had an INCREDIBLE day out on the water. Our crew was Capt. Wyatt and Annalise. We were told we had the best weather so far all season and a very blessed cruise. Not only was the weather perfect, the water was calm and we could see in all direction for miles and miles. We saw 2 glaciers from our boat and all the mountain ranges around. First we saw 2 humpback whales, a mother and calf. They breached and we saw the full tail of the adult twice. We went farther out and found a pod of orcas, probably a dozen total. They were all around us for over an hour!! We saw bald eagles too, and on the way back we saw a big group of sea lions basking in the sun along the rocky shore. What a great day, and the crew were absolutely fantastic!
Historically we haven't been the family that books tours through the cruise line...it's so expensive!! However on this trip we booked a few tours. This one was definitely a highlight! Goal...a remote island where we would hopefully see a bear. One the way we saw whales and sea lions ... we got to the island and had a nice walk. the group before us was leaving and were sad that they hadn't seen a bear.. our group was partially blessed! those of us in the front saw a bear!! he must have noticed us b/c he left and the folks in the back of our group didn't get to see the bear =( . we waited for quite some time and he never returned. it was a long day...for a glimpse of a bear, but my teens both said it was worth while and therefore it was! tip...bring a bottle of water and snacks for the boat ride.

At the Norwegian Bliss Excursion desk, we asked the attendant what was worth doing if we were only going to do one. She said the glacier boat tour, and it did not disappoint! Allen Marine Tours was fantastic. The boat picked us up directly from the ship as we were leaving Juneau around 1pm, and brought us back around 6pm. That really extended the day in a nice way. The boat moved at a relaxed pace through Stephen's Passage and into the Endicott Arm. The weather was glorious, something money can't buy! The scenery as we passed miles of coniferous rainforest and snow covered peaks was absolutely incredible. So calm and quiet, we never saw a single cabin or human on the shore. I felt so relaxed I napped twice. The guides were energetic and friendly, and very knowledgable. They interacted warmly with the guests, took pictures and answered every single question. They weren't in a hurry. When two bears were spotted, they stopped the boat for several minutes. The onboard snacks were actually -- dare I say it -- inexpensive! The crew provided coffee and hot chocolate free of charge, as well as warm donut holes. We spent a substantial amount of time up close to the glacier, probably close to an hour. We saw it calve several times. It's so massive and gorgeous, you don't understand the scale until you're close to it. Overall, worth every penny. Allen Tours made it special, relaxed, warm and memorable. It was the highlight of our trip. read more
Sailed via the Norwegian Encore as a solo doing the Mendenhall Glacier & Whale Quest, applied $50 excursion credit. Easy transport to the Mendenhall Glacier though the entrance was very busy with 6 cruise ships in port that day. Short walk to the visitor center, watch your time closely if doing a hike into the park, we had 4 guests not returning to our bus can only hope they used a related bus at departure time for the transfer to Statter Harbor. Not exactly a retreat into nature because of the crowds but still a nice stop. Not a long drive to Auke Bay, Statter Harbor and our transfer to the Whale Watching Boats. My excursion was on May 5th, weather was dry, and mostly clear. Complimentary warm beverages, and some nibbles were provided, plus other food and beverages for purchase, clean bathrooms, and sheltered seating on decks 1 and 2. Found my insulated jacket, gloves, and binoculars all useful, but even being sheltered it was cold on deck 2. The binoculars were helpful to view the humpbacks that we sighted, but so was the gps of my phone to know where the boat was in relationship to its surroundings, we sailed up the Saginaw Channel. In my opinion the sailing component makes sense if you enjoy the idea of a cruising the channel, with marine sightings as a bonus. Overall a good experience with the crew proving insights into this area of Alaska during Whale Watching component. Got back to my cruise ship post normal dinner service, but the Encore extended buffet hours, and I grabbed some food via the Local / Pub. read more
What an absolute delight touring with Allen Marine Tours. On our whale watching tour I. Juneau , we had a chance to see humpback whales, sea lions, and otter and even orca whales. Each and every one of the workers are so kind, informative and helpful. We had the best tour with them and would absolutely use them again. read more

Awesome tour! We saw whales and sea lions. Captain Jenna and her team were amazing! They have free coffee, hot chocolate, and donuts. There is a bar available with other snacks and drinks for purchase. There are 3 restrooms on the boat and they are very clean! Highly recommend! read more

We had a good time with the St. Peter crew. Vicki, our Naturalist, was full of information and shared it willingly. We had several whale sightings which the crew identified. We saw a mother and her calf take a few minutes to rest lounging on the water. It was so neat to see! read more

Great staff who were extremely knowledgeable! The tour was great with lots to look at! We saw plenty of wildlife- bald eagles, sea lions, and many whales. The scenery was gorgeous. There was complementary coffee, hot chocolate, and doughnuts. read more

Allen Marine pilot and crew were fantastic! The crew were all so accommodating and knowledgeable about Tracy Arm Fjord and the glaciers! We were lucky to see orcas on our way up and they expressed that that was a real treat even for them! The cascades and waterfall were breathtaking! Saw many birds, seals and sea lions and eagles as we left the port! The glaciers are astonishing to see and they get right up to one. The food options and treats were great! They served us a very large tasty sandwich and chips, cocoa and coffee and sodas along with a glacier ice cocktail! This is a great tour for families. With an upper and lower heated cabin, clean bathrooms and ample room to enjoy every angle of the scenery! Comfortable seating and tables and an upper deck for viewing. No matter the season wear layers and raincoat and if your hands are out taking photos you'll walk some gloves. It's windy! It was our favorite tour while on the Norwegian encore! I loved that they tendered right up to our ship and off we went! So worth the money and long hours that felt like we could go for days without a complaint! Thanks to the crew, we had so much fun. read more

What an amazing experience. Thank you so much to the crew. I was happy to see whales from afar but what a blessing to have them come so close. Food was great and it was a beautiful day. We even found some urchins while exploring the beach. 10000% recommend. I loved every minute. My only negative is that I was told I couldn't bring a stroller which would have made my 18 month old daughter very comfortable onboard. I was okay with that but then wait staff later told me that information was not correct and that I could have brought it with me. She was fussy which took away from other's experience onboard so I was a little irritated about that. Not enough to ruin the day though. Please make sure that everyone knows the policies before answering. Staff told me we were on one of the larger boats used when you do Disney tours and strollers are always on there. read more

If you're cruising the Inland Passage, I highly recommend the Allen Marine Tours excursion through the Tracy Arm Fjord to see the Sawyer Glaciers. The Allen Marine Tours boat picked us up at Tracy Arm from our cruise ship (MV Star Princess) and brought us to Juneau after our excursion. Our captain was adept at negotiating the glacial ice fields and got us as close as possible to the glacier faces. Our tour guide/naturalist was very knowledgeable and informative. This excursion was the highpoint of our cruise! read more

Outstanding tour! They came 3 hours from Juneau to meet our cruise ship in the Endicott arm. We were the last tour of the season. We got pretty close to the Dawes glacier and were brought hot cocoa while we were outside on the viewing deck. We saw a couple black bears and some kind of miniature whale or porpoise. Got up close and personal with a couple waterfalls and had informational briefings from an onboard naturalist! Just beautiful! read more

This was one of the highlights of our week in Juneau. We were fortunate to be guided by the highly skilled Captain Jessica, who had an amazing ability to spot and track wildlife. When she spotted a pod of orca, she was able to calibrate her speed and direction to match their underwater travel. She later identified them using a scientific database and gave us their ID numbers so we were able to look them up online that night and find out more about this particular group of travelers. Fascinating stuff! We also saw humpbacks, harbor seals, bald eagles, and - of course - the glacier, complete with thunderous calving and a small avalanche. Pro tip for folks who are in town for a while and want to avoid the cruise ship crowd: Call the company and get onto one of the boats that is specifically NOT catering to the cruise lines. It's less crowded, and that's where you'll find the locals, too. The one sour taste on this otherwise-amazing and fabulous adventure was the naturalist, Dale. He's got a lot of knowledge to share, but his style was grating. Lots of very dumb jokes. Ok, I can live with that, it's par for the course in the tourism industry. But he was also quite sexist (and clueless about that). On an otherwise all-female crew, he seemed to feel defensive, and compensated by making a lot of bad jokes about women running the world, etc., even throwing in a joke at the expense of Amber Heard. A word to the wise: Domestic violence is not a good topic for humor, and it's certainly not apolitical like tour guides strive to be. A little more introspection, Dale, and you could be grand. But, again, the scenery, the wildlife, the nature, and especially the awesome captain more than made up for the little hiccup of Dale. read more

Had an amazing experience with my husband. We had incredible sightings and were impressed by how careful the tour guide was to make sure the whales were protected and still give the guests great photo opportunities! We will do this again in our read more

Wonderful trip, knowledgeable naturalist (Denali), very friendly staff (Hannah and Lexi). Saw lots of whales including orcas and a mom & calf humpback whale. Learned a lot about Alaska and the wildlife. We really liked how respectful they were of the whales. Orca lodge stop had beautiful grounds and amazing food prepared by culinary students from around the country. read more

The boat set up is weird. The boat we were on had no option to go onto the bow of the boat. We had to watch the wales thru foggy rainy windows. Yes you can go the top decks, but handicap people can't. We paid a ton of money for an hour bus ride and 2.5 hour foggy window view. We did see a few whales. I'll stick to major marine in Seward. read more

We did a well watching excursion in Juneau. Miserable weather, but the excursion was excellent. The number of whales seen was amazing. There were multiple bubble net episodes for us to see as the whales work together. Saw them breach and show their tales. EXCELLENT EXCURSION. read more
