My wife surprised me with this excursion for Mendenhall Glacier. It was a little challenging finding our group. Hundreds of people disembarked from ship trying to find their excursion group which were many. Not well organized. I asked around and was told to look for staff with orange jackets. Maybe a pole flag would have been helpful. Customer Service Everyone was so pleasant. Young staff relocate here for this job and they are excited to be here. We watched a video and fitted with snow boots. The pilot was very good. As we go into the valley I viewed some of the most stunning glaciers I have ever seen. We landed and walked around and staff guided us. The vibrant blue hues in glacier are from melting snow. In pushup position I dipped my lips and drank running water, so cold and fresh from melting snow. The sharp ice cut the palm of my hand. Only another person did the same and cut his hand. No one else dared. This has to be one of the most beautiful snow covered places I have ever witnessed. This is truly heaven on earth. This is a must do. I have always felt helicopter rides are overrated, this one is not. I would do it again. read more

Caution: do not leave valuables behind as they will be stolen or lost. I left behind a pair of sunglasses in a case during my visit on May 8th, 2025. When I called to report them as missing, I was told that only my case was found. Mind you, my sunglasses were left in the case inside a locked storage unit provided by Temsco Helicopters. Ergo, if they have my case, they must have my glasses. Autumn, the supervisor who helped me, is a complete liar. I told her I would be happy to provide a return label for my case, but she told me she would handle it. It's July 2025 and I do not have my case. This business is not trustworthy and does not deserve your support. Too bad because the glacier is beautiful! I was on vacation and wanted to ride the sled dogs on Mendenhall Glacier and there's only one way up! I have always been scared of helicopters but I had no choice if I wanted to have this once in a lifetime experience. Let me tell you, AMAZING!!! I felt very safe on the way up and the way down. Both pilots were very calm and soothing and professional. They flight was gentle and I loved taking in the sites! I honestly can't wait to have another helicopter tour somewhere! And BTW, I'm scared of heights!! So if that's you and it's prevented you from going in a helicopter as well, put your fears aside. read more

This was advertised as "Mendenhall Glacier Tour" by NCL. As others mentioned, the pilots didn't talk much either way. We had different pilots so it wasn't only the pilot going over who was quiet. The tour on the glacier was lacking. Maybe it was the couple who allowed their young kids to dominate the tour guide, but he sort of led us around when talked about the rocks and a few formations. Other than drinking from a small rivulet and recommending others do so, that was about the extent of the glacier tour. We were then led to an area where we waited for the helicopters to return. No more stories about the rocks or glacier, just waiting. We've been on other helicopter tours before so maybe we were not as jazzed up about the actual ride as we could have been. The scenery is breathtaking. However we could have gotten that from any other helicopter operator. The actual "tour" portion of this excursion was lacking. read more

The staff at the office was excellent. They thoroughly explained everything we needed to know and kept us comfortable before and after the experience. Our pilot was amazing. He communicated with us thoroughly and operated the aircraft with precision. Amazingly, he spent some extra time showing us around the glacier from the air which was unexpected and an awesome plus. Unfortunately, two things marred the experience. First, the staff at the glacier was just not very good. I've done similar tours before and we were allowed to explore crevasses and wander around. Here, we were lead to a crevasse and then moved away from it. There was no opportunity to explore. This might be a safety issue, but other tours did give use more freedom and that lead to a better experience. Even just a "feel free to explore this area" would have made a difference. Although, to be fair, I didn't ask. Second, we paid through our cruise company. We knew that there was a 250 pound weight limit and that an extra fee might apply (but no disclosure at all about what the amount might be). I was less than 3 pounds over the limit. My wife, who sat right next to me in the helicopter, was more than 100 pounds under. We discovered the next day that they had billed us $120 for the extra weight. Since this went right to our cruise account, there was no opportunity to discuss this with anyone. Again, I absolutely cannot fault any of their safety or professionalism. Their aircraft were impeccably maintained and their staff ensured our safety at all times. We were on an Alaskan Cruise and one of the excursions we booked was a helicopter ride and guided tour to Mendenhall Glacier! So exciting! It was a bit pricey at $400 per person, but hey, YOLO!! This was one of the best excursions we did during our Alaskan Cruise and I'd do it again....and again. First, the personnel and pilots at Temsco Helicopters were fantastic! So professional and well organized. These folks know what they're doing! I had full confidence in them and wasn't really that nervous about going on the helicopter ride....that is, until I realized while I was on the helicopter ride that the date was Friday the 13th!! haha But the beautiful breathtaking views quickly consumed me and any nervousness I felt was gone! Important things to know before getting on your helicopter: 1. Do NOT lie about your weight! I repeat, DO NOT LIE about your weight! Hahaha No, ladies, you cannot skim off a few pounds! haha Weight limits and weight distribution on a helicopter are very important for everyone's safety! Besides, if they think you're fibbing, they will weigh you!!! (Note that if you weigh more than 250 lbs, you will have to pay a surcharge of about $130). 2. Bring an empty water bottle if you'd like to fill it with the most crisp, cold, fresh, amazing water from the glaciers. Water never tasted so great! 3. They will provide rubber boots with cleats on the bottom, so you can walk on the glaciers without slipping. These rubber boots are worn over whatever shoes/boots you are already wearing. I was wearing big clunky winter boots and I didn't think their rubber boots would fit over my boots, but surprisingly, they did! Their rubber boots are fully adjustable. 4. Before you get your boots, you'll be shown a safety video. Pay attention! 5. Seating on the helicopter are assigned because of required even weight distribution. You cannot get dibs on the seat next to the pilot! I luckily got that seat...yay!! 6. Once you are on the glaciers, they will provide walking sticks for you to use (optional) in case you're worried about slipping or falling while walking on the glaciers. I used one but honestly, I didn't need it. 7. Free souvenirs! We were encouraged to bring home a glacier rock (or two). They are beautiful and make unique gifts. I brought back a gorgeous glacier rock for my 7 yr old niece and she was in awe. Of course, I brought one back for myself also! haha 8. Bring your cameras! Amazing views! Beautiful blue glaciers! Enjoy every minute you're there because before you know it, the tour is over and you're heading back on the helicopter. 9. Don't forget to tip your pilot & personnel! Like I mentioned earlier, yes, this is quite an expensive excursion but I'd do it again if given the opportunity. What an amazing experience! Go! read more

Great tour to the Mendenhall Glacier! The staff pucker us up in town. We arrived at the stop and went inside to watch the safety video. We then got glacier boots to slide on top of our own shoes. Spectacular once in a lifetime experience. Booked this excursion through our NCL and it is the highlight of our Alaskan trip. Quite fun from beginning to end. Simply beautiful and breathtaking the staff was really nice the people checking is in a few younger kids didn't seem very cheerful maybe because we were the last flight out once we got on the glacier I felt rushed and we got on with a family 2 helicopters and we were the only ones not family and it seemed like they catered to them the group had a young kid that asked a lot of questions so we didn't get to do a lot because the guide was answering him instead of staying on track we had to rush back to meet the helicopter. We booked a tour to the Mendenhall glacier in conjunction with our Alaskan cruise. The staff were very friendly and informative. The team actually went above and beyond. You see, my husband's hearing aid fell off when he removed in headsets in the helicopter. I called Temsco and not only did they find it, they mailed it back to us free of charge. We had originally booked a trip to the dog sleds on Mendenhall, but the people running the sleds cancelled so we instead booked the Mendenhall walk trip since it also included a helicopter flight to the glacier. The glacier is beautiful up close and fascinating flying over but your time there is very short (just long enough for the helicopters to pickup the next group). It was overall enjoyable but the price is steep at $400 per person for about 15 minutes of flight time and 15 minutes out on the glacier. The rest of your time is spent taking the bus to the terminal, watching the safety video, etc. They do need a better system for handling potential overweight passengers. Currently they force you to authorize a $100 surcharge if you indicate anything close to their 250 limit BEFORE they will even let you board the bus to get weighed. The problem is that even once you weigh in and are under their limit, they still turn the authorization form in that they promised would be torn up (I asked to see it but they refused) and you have to dispute the charge to get it removed. I can only figure they are hoping people won't notice the charge and this feels like a very deceptive business practice that adds stress to the experience and leaves a foul taste. I'm still glad that we went, but next time will definitely be spending our money elsewhere. read more

* Although very expensive and relatively short, yes I would do it again * In August, it was very cold (20-degrees) and very windy * Take a coat (not a jacket), preferably with a hood * They will provide boots to go over whatever shoes you are wearing (tennis shoes are good) * It can be slippery on the glacier; physically challenged should have accompaniment (they have near-useless walking sticks at the glacier, if wanted) * Warm gloves are advisable, but not necessary * Do not bring purse or bags; they have lockers at helipad office if needed * If on a cruise, book directly with Temsco MANY months in-advance (to save money from the middle-man) * Know your weight (understandably, they must balance the helicopter; you pay more if you're over 250) * Bring a large spoon or cup to taste the glacier water (using your hands doesn't work) * You will fly in a row of helicopters to the glacier. The pilot will not speak, which is unfortunate because he should (educate what we are seeing). * Oddly, the headsets you put on inside the helicopter are for the pilot to speak to you, if needed. You are unable to talk/hear fellow passengers; this is also not good. * Helicopter ride is about 15-min, each way; it is the highlight of the trip * You will spend about 25-minutes on the glacier (it will be very cold, and there really isn't a need to stay longer on the ice...especially with poor narrators; educate yourself on the environment prior to trip) * When you land, there is a lack-luster employee that will explain some of the glacier environment (it is 300-2,000 feet deep and 15-miles long); it will naturally advance and retreat over thousands of years; like before there will be another ice age (the entire earth will be covered in ice again; it is earth's natural evolution...there is nothing man can do to change the natural advancing or retreating) * They get 4-stars because of the very poor narration (pilots don't speak, and on glacier the narration is lack-luster) read more

Two reasons I can't give more stars. The pilot didn't talk to us on the short 15 minute ride to the glacier. We had headsets so it's possible to give us a few words. I think he said his name...can't remember. We have taken helo rides before and those were larger helos and felt "smoother." For some reason this felt kind of military style which some might like. I did get to ride right up front next to the pilot which was cool but I felt so crammed in I was worried he couldn't reach an important toggle or button that my body might be obscuring! I have read so many reviews on tripadvisor and cruisecritic that I feel it's time to set the record straight. We fortunately paid less money booking independently but at $300 per person I still question this trip's worth. The glacier was cool, but I felt like the guides were getting tired and cold and that transferred to us too. We were on the glacier less than 25 minutes and the trip just felt a bit anti climatic. In fairness my husband was very happy that he did this trip; however, he laughed like crazy when I said, "well, I guess this makes the ring you bought me look like a good deal!" read more

Most awesome adventure! This was my third visit to Mendenhall glacier but my first visit via helicopter. This excursion was one of the best in my life! Yes, in my life. The perspective gained from the air can not be captured in photos or by video. This is a MUST SEE & MUST DO! The massive Mendenhall glacier is a majestic examples God's handiwork when viewed from across the lake or from boats/rafts in the lake however from those perspectives you only get a partial glimpse of it. From the air you can begin to grasp how enormous it it. If I could only convince everyone they must include this on their bucket list! read more

My husband and I did the Mendenhall Glacier helicopter ride when we ported here from our Alaskan cruise. We had to reschedule from Skagway due to weather and they made the process very easy. We did miss our first reservation time in Juneau since we couldn't find the van pick-up, that is something they need to work out especially for tourists. We ended up getting rescheduled for that afternoon. You cannot bring bags on the helicopter due to weather but you can store them in a locker at the office. They provide glacier boots which is a bonus as well! Just wear tennis shoes and you're good to go. Another thing people forget is sunblock! This was honestly the highlight of the trip and it was incredible. Photos do not do this justice so enjoy the view and stop taking pictures the entire helicopter ride. I would not recommend the use of their service. If they made it more affordable then more people would use their service. On August 1st, our pilot Parker took me, my two sisters, and my dad on a helicopter ride to tour two different glaciers. It was an incredible and memorable experience for us. Parker is very knowledgeable, friendly, and enthusiastic. We even got to get a taste of the glacier water there (very refreshing). Thinking of a helicopter ride to the top of Mendenhall Glacier? We booked our shore excursion via Celebrity Cruises. We were shuttled from the ship terminal to Temsco. Until we arrived we were clueless as to which helicopter service was being used. Very very organized. Great attentive staff. Safety is primary. No large backpacks or purses are allowed on the copter. There is a huge floor locker where you can toss your personal possessions. It's then locked up. Hubby and I scored the seats in front of the copter as we were the lightest two passengers of the six in our assigned party. Yes! Spectacular views of the glacier. It was drizzly when we started off but the weather eased up. Once on the glacier we were given a tour. I don't think it was all that informative. It's more about getting there via copter and bragging rights. And photo ops. But I was very glad to have done it. Spectacular views from our great seats on the copter. read more

First and foremost, this is a top aviation company. Thoroughly impressed with their professionalism, quality and attention to detail. The helicopters are immaculate. I've recently retired from 35 years of Aviation management and cannot recommend them enough (did it again the next day in Skagway I enjoyed it so much!) The trip to the top of the glacier (top meaning WAY up to where the glacier basically begins) and doing dog sledding was amazing! The dogs and team members are fantastic, and great fun. While this tour is pricy, it was worth every penny. I cannot put into words how incredible it is at the top of that glacier. I will give Temsco big points for being supremely accommodating. After flying Seattle to Anchorage to Cordova to Yakutat to Juneau the day before (because we're idiots), we were jazzed for our helicopter flight up to a dogsled camp on the glacier. Except...low ceilings, boo. They called early in the morning to tell us they couldn't offer the tour because of the ceiling. We politely declined an option of a no-helicopter, no-snow dogsled run, which...seemed odd, but whatever. But then they called back again another few minutes later to offer us a helicopter flight up to the glacier, just no dogsledding. Uh, sure, the real point of this was helicopters. Because helicopters. They picked us up from our hotel a few minutes later, and off we went. There were others on the glacier that morning, but I feel like the accommodated us separately - we were the only two in our helicopter, our helicopter left alone for the glacier, not in a group like others we saw that morning, and they even had to add an employee or two to the helicopter for weight and balance. That's service. We got a nice little aerial sightseeing routine before landing, which I think is a standard thing. Plus once we got up there, the dude showing us around was so jazzed to be sharing the glacier with us and communing with nature and what not that we couldn't help but love it. I think they also over refunded us, which was either a nice mistake or just really nice, but in any case, I would wholeheartedly recommend using Temsco if you're looking for some rotary wing time on your trip. read more

Awesome experience, WAY overpriced. I loved it, my wife loved it. I can't complain about the glacier trip at all. It was a good time, BUT...it was just way more money than it should have been considering they drop you off and fly back with a group to get the next trip going. They were efficient, but they are making hand over fist money on this operation. They have college students on the ground giving you the tour and loading up the helis on each side, so expenses are very low. I'd do it again, but I would look for a better deal AT the dock rather than pay the cruise ship. (Which i hear adds 30% premium) I forgot to mention, we drank Glacier water FROM the glacier stream. What an incredible experience we had this day! Our very professional pilot Kevin was friendly and knowledgable of the geography and history of Juneau and the surrounding areas. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day either. Watching the weather up here, I'd say we were quite fortunate to have a cristal-clear day for a sight seeing tour. Dog sledding by helicopter which is spectacular leaving the greenery of the Alaskan terrain up into the beauty of the Mendenhall Glacier. When you arrive their waiting to welcome you. It looks like something from outer space. Pure white, with the American flag the only real standout and the exception of the 250 sled dogs. What a beautiful site. Law requires everything be painted white, to blend with the surroundings. They even remove 'the poop' by helicopter to leave no trace. They allow you to meet and pet the dogs mush on the back and take all the pictures you want. Our musher was GREG, highly recommend him, he was fun, informative and helpful. We loved every minute, my daughter wanted to it again the next day. Fantastic, not to be missed!!! read more

Get right to it! Why ride a boat up a fjord and look at the glaciers from miles away? Even if you take a bus and go to an interpretive center, the glacier is still across the lake. Get in a helicopter, go up there, and WALK on the glacier. That's what we did. And we loved every single minute of it (all 75-90 of them). Each helicopter seats 5 passengers and the pilot. Three helicopters fly up to the glacier together, land next to each other, and pick up the passengers together. The company hires naturalists to spend their days on the ice telling visitors what they see, including fascinating factoids like there are rivers running under them, deep in the ice. The views of Juneau on the way to the glacier and back are absolutely spectacular, too. Our trip was $329 a seat, but this is a must do! This is mandatory! read more

What an amazing experience. I paid $550 for a 2-hour experience through a cruise line, which seems steep, but I would do it again in a heartbeat. First, we had a bus take us from our cruise ship to the Temsco Helicopters center. They have around 10 helicopters, I believe. The registration process is fast and easy. There is a quick safety video you watch, then you get ice booties to put on over your shoes. Groups of 4 are assigned and people put into helicopters. They fly in groups of 3. If you've never been in a helicopter, it's an amazing experience. It feel weird just lifting off backwards without any kind of runway. The helicopters are small, but feel very agile. I was nervous at first, but once you're off the ground, it's a profound sense of freedom. First, you see the beautiful sound near Juneau, after which you fly over jagged peaks to see the Mendenhall glacier breaking off in to the sound. After a couple more peaks, you see multiple arms of the glacier. You finally land on a safe flat part where there is a large dog camp. When you land, you are assigned also in groups of four to board 2 small sleds pulled by around 16 Alaskan huskies. It's a life experience. You go in a small loop on the glacier field. You stop twice for photo ops with the dogs. They are amazing. So friendly and beautiful. Smaller than your Siberian husky, some have stunning eye color. Plus, you're on a freaking dogsled, people! At the end, the bonus is that you get to hold and hug a ton of little Alaskan husky puppies. They will melt your ice-cold heart. Then afterwards, you say goodbye and take off in the helicopters and return by a DIFFERENT route, flying directly over the glacier. You can see he different arms merging, waterfall on your right, the sound in front of you. UNREAL. Unless you plan to come to Alaska many many times, DO THIS. You can whale watch anywhere. I saw about 20 whales just from my cruise ship. Dog-sledding on a glacier is awesome. Also be aware of the weather. I came on a partly cloudy day, which made for amazing photos. Sun shining through on parts of the glaciers. Be aware that summer is the rainy season in Juneau, and in July, it can rain for 2/3 of the month. read more
