An update to my original review: After my initial review, and comment from a "Business Manager". I asked Golden 1 to have an actual person contact me to discuss my concerns. Instead, I received yet another generic email that simply restated the same rigid policies that caused the problem in the first place. It appeared to be a canned response, offering no acknowledgment of my situation and no willingness to engage in a meaningful conversation. Rather than showing compassion or exercising reasonable flexibility, Golden 1 has chosen to hide behind inflexible policies. The combination of those policies and the complete lack of meaningful customer service has convinced me to move all of my mother's direct deposits to another financial institution. Once that process is complete, I will be closing her account. I hope Golden 1 eventually recognizes that families caring for incapacitated loved ones deserve better than automated responses and bureaucratic obstacles during one of the most difficult times of their lives. read more

I've just been told Bill Pay deducts the check when they issue it -- when it goes thru Wells Fargo (don't even have an acct at Wells's Fargo)! TOTAL BS. Not for a check going to a private person who will eventually cash it. So two months they deducted it when they issued the check AND ONCE AGAIN WHEN MY LANDLORD CASHED IT. It kills me that I've been so comfortable with this bank since they opened in Sacramento (70's-80's). ALWAYS FELT SAFE WITH THIS BANK. Now they partner with one of the biggest crooks in banking, WELLS FARGO. Jesse Singe MANAGER at Golden 1 in Napa, honestly believes what he's telling me and's he' s WRONG!!!! When you issue a check that can be electrically transferred YES! But not when you issue a bill pay check & mail it to a private party with no GD BANK ACCOUNT!!!! My landlady said I should feel blessed they gave me $885.00 back BUT THEY STOLE $885.00. To be told this is how it's always been , when you know that's a BALD FACE LIE. Always been that way since they hooked up with the biggest thieves, Wells Fargo. I'M LIVID BUT AM SLOWLY CALMING DOWN. Listen - I'm way below the poverty level in income. I'm elderly and disabled. Make $24,000 a year!!! That $885.00 takes me almost 3 weeks to earn on my job. And it's just GONE because that jackass refused to take off his blinders. Wish I was okay but I feel like going home and having one of those ugly cries. Don't feel I have any recourse to get my money back. I ask again -- 5 checks cashed for 3 months rent. First my history with Golden1. I got a car loan in the summer of 2020. After the dealer I was working with hit up different lenders and I ended up at G1 with a car loan. Standard 5 year kind of deal. I got to work and paid it off in 20 months instead of 60. No issues there, I was making huge monthly payments and had no contact with them because there were no problems. Then that was it. A few months later I started getting letters to put some money in the savings account to keep it open. I ignored it for months and then finally decided to add some money in there to keep that relationship alive. After I deposited a small amount in savings I got an ATM card, not a visa/mastercard debit, a literal ATM card. I have never used it. I also called in once in the beginning because I could not create an online account to use the app. That was my one phone encounter, all good no issues there. The branch person in Napa CA was nice and helpful. I went in again because my phone number to activate the card was no good. I went in a second time and the number on file back from the car loan in 2020 (now late 22) was not right, I have no idea where it came from. Again, the branch employee was helpful. Oh and I forgot to mention both of these visits were on Saturday, they have short hours like 10am to 2pm I think, that's another reason I went with them. I still was at Citibank for my checking by the way. Ok next I decided in Jan of 2023 to check out their credit card offers. Their member cash rewards plus looks really good. 4% back on gas, 3 for groceries and restaurants and food delivery, 1% everything else and no annual fee. They clearly state you need good to excellent credit for this card, and might offer you the next card down if you don't qualify for this one. My FICO in Jan of 2023 was around 788. Glad I stuck with G1, I was approved online in under a minute with a 14.5k credit limit. Nice. After that I opened a checking account and deposit my paychecks there. So far no issues. So here's my only reason for 4 stars not five. It's the app. There are two, one that just says G1 and one called card controls. You don't need both just the basic one with get you to everything. So the app is just buggy, slow and crashes a lot. Sometimes you open it, and it opens for 2-3 seconds and it's gone and you have to repeat. Sometimes it's fine. Other times it just locks up when switching between debit card and credit card. You have a lot of controls for your credit and debit cards. You can choose what areas (by zip code) your cards can be used and set dollar limits as well. You also have controls for what type of business your cards will work at. Look around you have a lot of controls. I have chase/amazon, discover, AMEX and Capital One and they don't have these options. Transfers from checking to savings or the other way around are instant and easy. Paying the G1 cards is fast an easy as well. So I started using my new G1 card around end of Jan 2023, I don't have any cash back yet. I don't like that you can't see it as you go along or by transaction. I think I read a review that states it gets deposited once a month to your savings. I don't like that, I wanted it to be connected to my card like my other credit cards so I can see the amount separately. But I haven't been using it long enough to see cash back numbers. Almost forgot my APR is just over 16% it's lower than all my other cards. I pay off all my balances so I never pay interest, but if I had a really big purchase or emergency the G1 is the go to. read more

Boooooo to the employees and the atm here! I came around 7am to deposit and it started freezing and then didn't let me retrieve my card. I wasted twenty minutes before work and then had to leave my card behind. Head there at 1230 and it was a huge hassle printing me a new card because their machine was malfunctioning. Then I had to switch over all my auto pays and it was a headache. Then come to find out they could have retrieved the card from the atm for me! Confirmed by a current golden one employee who said as long as it's the same day they should be able to. So your lazy staff was just being unhelpful, which is not cool when they are in customer service. Thanks for ruining the day! read more

It was great location from where it was (by Napa State Hosp.). When the Corona is over,I think the parking lot will be too small. Fast friendly service I'd be careful about doing their Online Banking Paperless Banking. EG. I've spent 3 hours just trying to get a copy or PDF of my Monthly Bank Statement. Changed password and now it's locked me out. This is a ridiculous amount of time just to order or see MY ACCOUNT. AND MY INFO. FIX IT PLEASE?! Danke read more

They don't deserve 1 star. Most unhelpful group/institution I have experienced. No effort whatsoever to help solve a problem. Standard answer for any question is you can't. It is against our policy. I had not came to this bank in a while since they already do such a good job with their mobile app and online platform. But it was SO REFRESHING to come in to the bank and be helped by a very friendly and professional representative! Williams Gomez helped me with getting qualified with a personal loan. This man literally helped me in a 48hour time frame By answering all my questions via phone and emails so fast. He followed up so quickly as well with anything the the bank needed and just made what I thought was going to be so stressful to be quick and efficient. It is nice to be a member of a local credit union versus the big banks that run our country. With auto debit and credit available they are just as convenient. And though their debit machines are not very conveniently located throughout Napa I can get cash just about anywhere that I am making a purchase. So once again, no added inconvenience to me. When I do visit a branch, there is often a small wait and the staff are efficient and friendly. They have the Apple pay app and BillPay so they provide me with everything I need! And I'm not supporting big banks! Yay! read more

This credit union is absolutely terrible I paid thousands of dollars to pay off my car and then come to find out a month and a half later they were still taking money out of my account for the car that was paid off. I waited on hold for about 20 minutes spoke to one person who said I had to speak to someone else and that person I had to speak to an "escalation team" whatever the hell that means the end of the day I had them overnight a check and I had to pay a fee of $31 just to get my money I told them in the future when people pay off loans maybe let them know they have to go in and physically cancel the money transfer which is stupid but that's the company I am dealing with. read more

I have yet to been able to get help through the several times ive been here. They are rude, never smile. I was going to apply for a job here but i will not subject myself to work with such unhappy people. They are part of the shared branch program yet can never seem to help me with one of my banks in sacramento. They only offer services to golden one members during saturdays which doesn't make any sense because it normal business hours. Why are they even part of the program if they can't help people who need to share info with other banks. I have cancelled my account and looked for other banking options. They are just not like the branches in Sacramento. I can't drive to sacramento to deposit money for a bill. So they make it extremely difficult to bank with. read more

Will never bank with them! They are rude and disorganized. I've been to several branches in the Bay Area as my credit union is co-op with theirs. The Fairfield, Vallejo and now this branch are all rude and act as if I, as a customer, is unwelcomed! I will never visit a G1 branch ever in my life again. I also put in a complaint to the manager at the headquarters office in Sacramento and he never called me back. They gave me the wrong information and wasted a lot of my time!
