I have been a resident for a few months now and I highly recommend it. The location is extraordinary. It is on a quiet street, but two blocks from the hustle and bustle of downtown Flushing with its many stores and transportation options. Manhattan is an easy commute, just a 5-minute walk to the LIRR station and a 15-minute ride to Penn Station or Grand Central. I work part-time in Manhattan, and I've never had an easier commute! Queens College, with its plays and excellent musical offerings, is a quick ride on a nearby bus. Flushing Town Hall with its stellar jazz program is four blocks away. The beautiful Flushing Library is an easy walk, as is Macy's and one of the best pizzerias in Queens. Here at Flushing House itself, there are many interesting offerings - book club, language clubs, exercise programs, both domestic and foreign movies, and a lovely rooftop atrium that is open 24 hours a day. There are many food options at each meal and, once you realize all the choices you have ( on and off the menu) you can always find something you like. One can pick up meals and take them back to one's apartment, but the communal dining room has been a way for me to meet other residents and make the acquaintance of some lovely people. The staff is kind, hardworking and understanding with residents (even when a resident might be cranky!). My apartment is very sunny, clean, and comfortable, and weekly housekeeping is included. If you are an active older adult wondering what the next step in life should be, come to one of the frequent open houses that Flushing House hosts and see for yourself. You may find, as I did, that it is a lovely place in a great location with a price that is very reasonable considering all that is included.

BEWARE! DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES TO THIS PLACE! They were supposed to refund our deposit within 6-8 weeks. It's been almost 3 months, numerous phone calls, emails, texts and still no refund check!!! NYS has a 14 day law on refunding security deposits! This is ridiculous! Are they running a legit business or are they running a scam??? Now, no one calls back or returns emails. I have filed a complaint with the state attorney general's office and I will be taking Flushing House to court. If they are so shoddy in administration, how could they possibly be doing a good job running the independent living facility? I am just glad we decided not to put my elderly parents here. There is something not legit going on in this facility. If I can give them a 0 star, I would. 1 star is too good for them.

Staff frequently ignored call alarms, left him unattended, failed to take him to critical medical follow-ups, and repeatedly moved him between rooms, causing confusion and setbacks. Communication with doctors was almost impossible, medications were mishandled, and aides ranged from indifferent to openly hostile. My father suffered preventable injuries, long periods without proper rehab, and inconsistent hygiene and safety practices. Even basic tasks--like helping him to the bathroom or keeping the call button within reach--were often ignored. Across multiple floors the care felt chaotic, understaffed, and lacking oversight. This facility caused my father unnecessary pain, fear, and decline. I would strongly urge families to look elsewhere and thoroughly research any rehab center before trusting them with a loved one.

This place is absolutely horrible. My family member is a current resident (which we are trying to…read morefix) who gets absolutely no attention. He is ignored for hours, not receiving even a quarter of the care their website promises and worst of all, our concerns as the family are being ignored. Everyone says it's not their problem or brushes us off without giving us direction on who can help address our concerns. We are trying one last time to be heard, if not we are filing a formal complaint with the NYC Board of Health. This place deserves negative stars based on our experience the past few months.
