I wanted to get my house re-keyed. I had replaced a couple doors/security screens on my house over time which meant I had different keys for the front door, back door, basement door and the entry gate (TONS of friggin keys!). So I finally said enough's enough and made an appointment he came out the next day re-key all of the main doors (I wasn't ready to commit financially to getting EVERYthing done) but I was able to use the coupon and have the main doors re-keyed. A few months ago I was dopey enough to lock myself out of my house. Well good job, dum dum! It's something I don't do often, but when I have in the past, It has always been a miserable experience. You call a locksmith, they take forever, and they charge you WAY more than they quoted you on the phone. Listen, they know they have you over a barrel and what else can you do? Miserable indeed. Well not this time, THIS time, after the usual frustration, anger, and despair, I hit Yelp and found this Golden Bay Locksmith character. I called him up and he quoted me a very fair price and said he'd be there in 20 minutes. So of course I figure he'll be there in an hour and there will be $50 - $100 in surprise charges. Not only was Tommy there in 15 minutes, but he charged me exactly what he quoted me! And he took credit card!! And he was a really nice guy!!! Seriously, this guy rocks. I would totally use him again and recommend him to anyone who needs any locksmith work done. Super fast, very nice, and great prices....what more could you ask for in a locksmith? I have used this company twice. The first time was late at night when we had to break into an alarm box at our new house. It was only about 20 minutes after my call when the locksmith arrived. This company SAVED THE DAY! After waiting over an hour for ANOTHER locksmith (after being told he was on his way, then being told they couldn't reach him) they arrived when they said they would (20 minutes) and actually called 10 minutes after to make sure I knew they were coming. Once there, he gave me a quote to unlock the car, then offered to make a key on the spot. Since I lost the key on the beach, I would have had to drive to San Francisco to get a duplicate from my friend whom I bought the car from. I can only emphasize what has already been said about Tommy/ Golden Bay Locksmith. He is a legitimately good businessman who IS NOT TYING TO CHEAT YOU OUT OF YOUR MONEY. PERIOD. This is the second time I have called Tommy to save my ass. The first time was about a year ago when I lost my car keys and had already accepted that my car was probably going to be towed based on the fact that other locksmiths seemed to want to avoid their job. NOT TOMMY. He immediately gave me a reasonable quote (affordable for a college student) and must have used magic fairy dust to get to the USF campus as fast as he did. He was professional, really helpful, and even pretty funny. I got a newly programmed key, a huge sense of relief, and my day was pretty much made in record time. Recently, I went on an adventure in Dolores Park that caused my keys to go into hiding- again - and I called Tommy immediately again. He was already cutting me a new key by the time I arrived to meet him (my key has a sensor with a specific VIN number that Tommy kept on record from the last time he programmed my key). An even bigger testament to his honesty, HE LOWERED THE PRICE from the original price, which I was absolutely prepared to pay, because he explained it was less work since he already had the necessary information. The whole thing only took about 20 mins and again he was friendly and easy to talk to while we waited for the sensor to sync with my car. Just dont call them. I had an appointment for them to be at my house between 9 or 10. It's now 10:30 am. I called to see what was wrong they didn't answer for a while then this lady answered. Basically said I had the wrong number. Even though I called the number that was one here on Yelp. She said something to me which I couldn't hear clearly, so I said I'm sorry what was that and she started talking to me very rudely. I hung up on her because that was nice at all. I called again and it rang twice and then same lady picked up the phone. So I called another place to get my key done and now I have to wait another 2 hours to get my key. Yeah I realise it's my fault I lost my key but if they were doing their job right I would have my key already and they would've had over 140 dollars. Which they quoted me on Friday. Dissapointing cause the first man that I talked to was really nice. read more

This review is for both the door and car opening services. My friends and I lost our key to my 2003 Infiniti while hiking in the Muir Woods. Our house keys were inside the car so we had basically no way of getting into either our house or car. Le sad. A buddy gave us a ride back to Berkeley. But then we still needed to find a way inside our place. So we called Golden Bay to get into our house, and a guy named Adi came pretty promptly and immediately got to work opening the door. Adi was so courteous, skilled, and affable that one of my buds asked if they also could open cars. We thought that was a ridiculous question, but Adi just nonchalantly said "yes" and let us call his manager to work out a fair price. His manager was really cool and gave us a solid deal. Then Adi drove me ALL THE WAY to Muir Woods (45 minutes away), and programmed a new key for my car, even fighting against horrible cell reception that made communicating with the central key chip server incredible laborious. He was so nice and kind the entire time, offering me water, letting me charge my phone, and chatting with me about this and that. It didn't feel like I was awkwardly waiting to get my car back -- it felt like I was working alongside a skilled friend to solve a wacky problem -- how to get into a locked car in a cell phone dead zone. By the way, including driving to the woods, Adi worked on getting into my car for *at least* 90 patient minutes. He never once complained or asked for a higher price. And he did all this until 1 AM. Adi, and Golden Bay, thank you so much for saving our weekend and week, as well as hundreds of dollars we would have spent if we went to the Infiniti dealership to get in our car. I was kindly informed that Golden Bay Locksmith exclusively does lockouts, not duplications, but then (although I didn't even ask) the gentleman on the phone helpfully told me where I could go to get a key duplicated. In this kind of business in particular, it's really easy for someone to take advantage of you or to use access to your opened doors for unlawful means. WAY BETTER THAN TOYOTA DEALERSHIP! My purse was stolen with my only Prius key in it, and I needed a key reprogrammed. Toyota quoted me $250 each key, plus $250 for reprogramming, AND wanted me to have my car towed to them. THEN I find out that it didn't even include the metal key inside the electronic key, to open the door if my battery is dead. THAT would be an extra $100! $350 a key! Golden Bay to the rescue! They came to me for a small fee, and were out here within the hour. They quoted me a total of $375 for one key! Including the metal key! Yay! I had them do a second key as well, so this didn't happen again. They were fast, professional, and I paid with a credit card right out of the van. Five years ago I called a *different* locksmith out to re-key three locks. It took them a while to schedule it and were late for their appointment. They did the work, left the locks operable but a little catawumpus. Charge was $195. Yesterday I called Golden Bay as they are in Emeryville (where the job is) and Tommy was there in 5-10 minutes. He not only rekeyed all the locks, but he straightened out the older installations so that they were tight and no longer askew. The best thing, though, was that Tommy asked about how I used the locks and the doors. At first I thought it a little odd, but then he suggested a rekeying strategy that was brilliant. I now have ONE key for myself that opens all 3 doors, and ONE key I can give to my neighbor who needs to have access to only the first 2 doors. This was a great idea and he got it all working in short order. On top of that, he charged less than the other company from 5 years ago. The key to my Miata had twisted and NEARLY BROKE, so I googled quickly and Tommy's business popped up top. Called him, he said "be there in 20 minutes" and so he was. He took the key, which was in such bad shape I dont know if a "normal" key cutter could cut that, he cut me a new key on the spot, tested it out in my car, and BAM a new key. I was in a hurry to drive my friend to the airport at night and left my room key in the room... Thankfully my housemates were still up and opened the main door for me. I called golden bay locksmith in the morning. They showed up around 1 hour as scheduled. Roy serviced me friendly. He had a pack of tools, tried various methods. But unfortunately, my previous door lock was a fighter and guarded my room with its life. We had no choice but to drill the lock and replace it with another one, which cost me another 30. Roy was nice, he helped me install the lock and cleaned the debris of the old lock. The charge was fair but still expensive to a poor student like me. So the one star off is because of the extra 30 replacement fee. Other than that, I'm quite happy with the service. Also, it's good to know that my lock was a good one :P I would give them a 4.5/5! My wife and I locked ourselves out of our apartment early on a Sunday morning and weren't able to get a hold of our building manager. We were really worried about calling a locksmith because of the cost, and of the potential for damage to the door. But we didnt need to worry! Anybody who has ever lost their keys knows how much of a pain in the ass it can be. Its exponentially worse when its raining outside, you have a fever of 102, your car is parked at the BART station and the only spare keys you have are 600 miles away in San Diego. After calling a few different 1-800 numbers that popped up on Google, I came across Tommy's Yelp reviews. I gave him a call, explained my situation and told him that I was considering leaving my car at the BART station and having my brother mail the keys to me. If I had known it would be this easy I would have had him do it years ago! I called him in the morning and he was at my house in under an hour and a half. He was actually early.
