Sean runs a fishing charter from Rice lake and Lake Simcoe and depending on the time of the year and how the fishing is at the time, Sean makes a recommendation on location and itinerary. Since our charter was in the late fall, Sean suggested we meet him on lake Simcoe. We drove up to meet Sean at a marina and he came with bait, all the fishing rods, pfd and everything else we would need to enjoy the day on the water fishing. We went out on his pontoon boat and felt very comfy and safe. Sean took care of putting all the baits on our hooks and showed us how to fish for the infamous lake Simcoe yellow belly perch. As you can see from the photos, we had an epic day of fishing! We were so impressed with Sean's attentive and friendly service, we are booked to go ice fishing with him soon. Will report back on how that experience goes!

You're able to drive the boat to different islands and dock there. There's a BBQ on deck as well and the entire experience was relaxing. The staff a great at training and put in enough time to teach you how to handle the houseboat. They provide a service line if you need it and always have someone there to answer questions. I went in late May where the whether was ok but very quiet in the late spring so no issues with busy locks or too many boaters in the water. Got a chance to see their luxury boats and it's like a floating hotel. Can't wait to go back. Highlights of the trip were Boyd island, Bobcaygeon, Lower Buckhorn lake, Wolfe Island and Lovesick lock.

I guess we should have turned around and left the minute we got there but, we had nowhere else to…read morego. Upon first arriving at the Anglers Retreat, you are welcomed by a beautiful, scenic view of Rice Lake. And then you are shown to your cabin by Lloyd - a very drunk person who won't show you to the boats because he can't see two feet in front on him! He was disgusting! The cabins were not much better. We were given a choice of cabins because there was a plumbing problem with the original one we booked but, not so much a problem that he insisted we change cabins. So, we stayed in the original cabin. Everything (in both cabins) was grimy and dirty - the ceilings, the walls, the floors, the furniture, the beds - everything! The cabins have obviously never been cleaned. We decided to make the best of it. I took out my can of Lysol and used about half of it to clean the germs and get rid of the fowl smell! Looking around the cabin, you could easily see the structure was falling apart and needed some serious work. There were holes in the ceilings and walls and the floors were uneven. We also noticed there wasn't a smoke detector; there was a spot (a base) for one but, no detector. We had booked the cabin for the week. That evening, while down at the dock, I heard and watched out of the corner of my eye, at what I thought was a squirrel scramble in to the second cabin we had been offered. I "hoped" it was a squirrel but, it sounded like something bigger. "Thank goodness we didn't take that cabin!" In the morning, as these things naturally happen, we had to go to the bathroom. After a couple of trips, the toilet would not flush. There wasn't a plunger anywhere so, we went to get Lloyd. He was quite hungover and, after listening to the problem, went back to eating his breakfast before heading out to look at the problem. Others in my group shared that the sinks had also back up during the night. When Lloyd finally arrived, he got annoyed and said the toilet was running. We just waited and thought he was going to fix it. Instead, he started yelling at us! We were two couples in my group. Lloyd said a lot of stupid and ridiculous things! The women got mad! Standing up from the chair I had been sitting in, I took a dep breath and said, "I think we should leave." So we did. We quickly packed all of our belongings and drove into Peterborough - to use the bathroom and get some breakfast. We lost a $250.00 deposit. We managed to find another place to stay for the rest of the week. Anglers Retreat should be shut down and the buildings should be fixed/torn down, the plumbed up-graded, the Fire Marshall should be brought in, a building inspector should be called in, etc., etc., etc.

Angler's is crusty looking. It has an overwhelming smell of old cigarettes and sells things so old…read morethat the glue attaching the plastic covers to the cardboard backing has let go and given up. Things are yellowed and ancient looking. A little rough around the edges. A lot rough around the edges. There's an unmarked washroom in another building to the right. We went to Angler's on a Sunday to rent a boat to fish. With a party of eight, we rented a pontoon at a rate of $120 for four hours ($158 at the end, after taxes and fuel charges). The day rate was $175-180 (before tax and fuel charges), which ends at 7:00pm, but we didn't want the boat that long. The pontoon - with a capacity of eight - fit the eight of us comfortably. Only one person is supposed to be the designated captain and apparently a boating license is not required, but who's steering the boat when you're out in the water is another question (and that's all I'll say). We did have fishing licenses though. The man, who I assume was the owner, taught our captain how to dock/undock and drive the boat. It's pretty straightforward. We also bought a box of worms, 24 for $6. As I never fish, I don't know if that's a good deal. The pontoon was decent. It certainly wasn't new and it definitely wasn't fancy, but it got the job done and we didn't run into any problems. My only issue with the boat was that it had no overhead cover unlike some other pontoon's we've rented in the past, so on a sunny day, you would likely shrivel into the wrinkliest of raisins. Fortunately, we brought a big golf umbrella, so it made lounging on the boat much more comfortable. I genuinely don't think you could survive in the heat and sun without shade for that long on a boat with no overhead over. That's really my only complaint with the experience (and I'm no boat expert, but there did appear to be notches where a cover should/would have been attached.)

A trip to Niagra Falls is special, but if you don't do this boat ride to the falls your trip is not…read morecomplete! The prices are very reasonable especially with the exchange rate. The falls are amazing but when you ride right up to the falls and you can see them from water level there's just no describing how awesome and powerful nature is! The lines actually moved really quick especially for the amount of tourist that were there. The boat ride is around 20 minutes. The view of the falls from the American side is really good as well when you're riding by. If you're on the American side you can do the Maid of the Mist boat ride, they both take you to the same spot. American boat rides were blue ponchos while the Canadian side wears red. Great for an individual, couple or the whole family! Was not disappointed at all.

It was super easy to locate the meeting point for the boat. As soon as we walked past the main downtown area we saw the blue arches showing Niagara City Cruises. Online there was a disclaimer that even though you are booking a specific time you may need to wait past then to get onto the boat. We arrived at 10:20 for our 10:30 cruise and were promptly beginning out walk down towards the boat at 10:31. When you get to the meeting point for the boat you join a queue that then goes into the lift that will take you down to the boat. There are 2 lifts running at the same time so this process went quickly. Once we made it off of the lift we followed the signage for the departing boat. Before we joined the next queue to get onto the boat employees were handing out ponchos that were included in the ticket price. At this point there was a stand selling snacks and drinks. We did not take advantage of this at this time, so I cannot comment on the quality of the food. We conrinued to head towards the next queue which would lead us onto the boat. We had the option of riding on the top of the boat or the bottom, and we chose the top. It was quiet crowded up there but it did seem like no matter where you stood you had a view-and you were going to get soaked. We were absolutely drenched. They take you right to the bottom of the falls. It was an amazing experience that I am so glad that we did! After our trip I watched the later boats going to the falls and I was shocked at how close the boat actually takes you. At some point the most from the falls was so thick I couldn't see. It felt like we were in a rain storm and we were all cracking up and how crazy it was. This tour is 20 minutes which seems like the perfect amount of time to get drenched. We saw both falls, and no matter what side of the boat you are on you are going to have a great experience. Getting off of the boat was quick and easy. They offer recycling for the used ponchos. When you continue on you will run into the food and drink stands as well as ample seating and restrooms where you can regroup before continuing on. They do take your photo before you get onto the boat, and you have the option to buy it for $50 CAD. This include 2 8x10 prints and a digital download. They do add fun backgrounds to the photos, and they do look like there was some kind of editing done to make the image look a little finer. Converted to USD I thought it was a good price for a great souvenir. I will be hanging the photo in my house! We had very little interaction with the employees, which I feel was a result of them operating efficiently. We didn't have any hold-ups from the time we arrived to when we exited. At the end you queue for the lift to take you back up to the original booth for Niagara City Cruises. From there you can simply keep walking and enjoy the view of the falls from the trail. Quick, efficient, and no frills for a fair price.

Absolutely fabulous time riding Maid of the Mist into the heart of Niagara Falls…read more Check in was super easy and after a short elevator down to the water, we were given a poncho and thanks goodness for that. You will get wet. A small change of position from the boat seems to bring sheets of water onto the decks. Judging from everyone's faces, we were all enjoying ourselves. I highly recommend this.

I have only done the open air boat, so this review pertains to that experience. It was like a natural thrill ride/roller coaster. ( Fast speeds and spins, but also some amazing views. One thing to note is make sure you keep your group close together so you can actually be seated together. If you live local, check for discounts online. At one point it was almost a $20 savings for having a local address! If you are looking for a unique, fun adventure, definitely check this out!

This marina is fairly large and protected by man made barriers from Lake Ontario winds and waves…read more They have been able to accommodate us with or without reservations for a boat slip and they do answer the VHF marina radio (channel 68). We have stayed there at times when dock hands were sent out to assist us tie up upon our arrival and we have stayed there at times when they have not. Facilities our clean. They offer wash room facilities and laundry facilities (fees apply). Rates to stay are competitive with other marinas along the Canadian shoreline. Power and fresh water at the slips. Staff are friendly and helpful. Fuel / full service station on location. WiFi available at the slips. Shops, restaurants, and a large beach all within walking distance of the marina. Area also offers a farmer's market (check with chamber of commerce for schedule) and often times free festivals and outdoor - live entertainment. We would return to this marina again.
