The fare is about $9 per person for a one-way ride. You can hop off along the route if you'd like to explore, but you'll need to pay again if you want to hop back on so if you plan to use multiple time get a day pass. The cable car conductors are friendly, and some even give a mini commentary during the ride, pointing out interesting landmarks and great spots to take photos. Since these cars can't go in reverse, they use a wooden turntable to turn the nine-ton cars around 180 degrees so they can head back to Union Square. You can actually watch the gripmen and conductors push the cars by hand, which is pretty cool. For years, when I first moved to San Francisco, I used to catch the cable car here every morning and ride it all the way to the very end at Market Street, then walk to work. I did that just because it was fun, not because it made my commute faster or shorter! Over time, I got to know the cable car operators who worked the early shifts and many neighbors who also took the cable car to work, and we often chatted and shared a few laughs while waiting. We also enjoyed live performances from street musicians. It is a fun ride, especially for visitors and their families who take the cable car as part of their San Francisco visit experience.

A lot of history to learn from here, kids were happy to see this place. Restrooms are available as soon as you arrive the island and throughout the island. It's an island with hills, may not be very friendly with tourists with mobility issues. I think last ferry service to leave the island is around 4:30pm, please check the ferry schedule as soon as you can in case it changes from time to time. I learned that night tour is available, but I don't know if I want to do that... might be a little creepy...

The Golden Gate Ferry ride offers spacious quarters, amazing views, and good snack and beverage choices. There are cozy chairs inside or comfortable chairs on either outside deck (deck levels dependent on which ferry boat you get). There are cell phone charging stations by several seats if you bring your charging chord. And staff and riders alike always seem overjoyed to be sharing the experience with you. I take this ferry several times a month sometimes during the week and weekend to visit family. This is truly a unique and quintessential Bay Area experience worth having.

Embarcadero BART station has always been my favorite BART station…read more That's as true today as it was when I was 14 years old and I used to cut school in Berkeley and jump on BART station and get off in Embarcadero so I could spend the day in San Francisco. Embarcadero station is the first station one gets to when they are coming from the East Bay and it's located in one of the most exciting parts of San Francisco. This station gives you access to Ferry Building-Oracle Park-Pier 39-Fisherman's Wharf. The downside to this station,to me, are as follows. -Monday through Friday from 3pm to 6pm this station is super packed with workers trying to leave San Francisco after work and can make catching a train back to the East Bay troublesome. -Same thing with the morning from like 6am to 9am coming from the East Bay is a monster of a train ride -- I don't love it. After Giant games or events at Oracle Park this station is very busy as well with people trying to catch BART back to the East Bay. I feel this station is pretty safe, I've never seen a lot of criminal activity going on in the station. This BART station also is a central hub for connecting to San Francisco's Muni Metro system, so that is another plus for this station. Overall I can say these are the reasons this is still my favorite BART station in the Bay Area.

Well sometimes they offer special ferries for the Giants or Warriors games in SF. Atmosphere - On the Alameda side - I hike/bike here at times as well. Plenty of parking, 250 spaces and no overnight parking allowed. 20 bike racks available, the ferry is bike friendly as well. 24 bike lockers available. AC Transit = 21 line. Public restrooms, don't expect much. On the SF side - We have the ferry building here. Plenty of public transportation and ride share. But I mostly either walk to meet my friends or have someone pick me up. Service - 5 stars. My favorite form of travel. Prices have gone back up slightly, but still very affordable. Thank you. Approximately 20 minutes to get to SF. Also, since I have lived in Alameda, the ferry service has always been on time. This ferry, similar to Sea Plane, operates only Monday to Friday. So if you go on a weekend, you need to take the main ferry. Price - $5.10 one way with a clipper card. Still almost 50% off versus pre-pandemic prices, thank you. They went down the stairs, escalators, and elevators. The journey to the center was a quiet one, one of reflection, and one of solitude. It was a time to reflect on life, the history and meaning of the station, the magnificent feat of engineering, and the groceries or nom noms bought from the ancient city within the city, the historic landmark, the national, and frankly global, treasure, that is SF Chinatown. True to human form, a testament to perseverance and endurance, elderly folks were also making the long journey up the long staircases. Just like what you see on the characteristic, steeply graded slopes of SF's iconic hills, there were elderly groups making the trek up and down. The wait time was short, and the station was clean. It was very well lit, and it seemed like a very long descent. It felt safe too with security features everywhere. It was an enjoyable experience going through the station with all the arts displays and historic relics on display. It did speak to the hardships that our families endured or worked through in the old factories that used to be there. Our community has a voice; these are very important points in history that should not be forgotten or lost.
