A neat little café, a cool seating area, and enough merchandise and books to find yourself perusing for just the right amount of time. This book store is right beside oasis cafe. Because there was a wait to eat I decided to stop in for a book. As soon as you stop in the store, it feels like you're transported into a beautiful spiritual library. I loved that they not only sell books, but do readings, and sell other various things. The staff is very friendly and I had 3 separate people ask me if I needed help. I ended up going with a book the staff highly recommended. I will definitely be back for any future needs! read more

The first thing I noticed about this bookstore was the smell of incense as I walked in the door. Oh, ok, it's one of those places. There are lots of gift type items-stones, chakra stuff, tarot cards, candles, soaps, etc. Of course, they also have books. I was here for a guided journaling event and found that the staff were very welcoming and familiar. While they may not have the largest selection of books like some of the big box stores, it has all the charm of the small town bookstore that you usually only see in RomCom movies. read more

I may not exactly be the target audience of Golden Braid. Truth be told, I'm not 100% sure who is, but that's all on me, not on the store. I guess I jut really love the place and can appreciate a killer bookstore next to a café. I guess "new age" would be as close as I can come to describing who the target audience is. And while I consider myself a fella who's in touch with what's what in the world, new age is one of those areas that I just need to learn more about. Good thing we've got Golden Braid. The space itself is quite nice. Charming location attached to Oasis Cafe and worth a good wander through when you're around. You'll find a nice selection of books focused on your spirit and your mind. You've got a small selection of health care products, and lots of little gifts you may not find anywhere else. You can also make an appointment with a psychic for a reading. It's a fantastic place to just poke around, especially pre- or post-meal. read more

I love stores like this! How perfect is it that it is attached to Oasis Cafe. We went into OC for a lovely lunch, and visited GBB to of course fill our Little Free Library (@Station_20). My LO got the Hangry book and Don't Bring Your Dragon to the Library. My husband loved Hangry the best. The cashier is very friendly, and there were lots of great things here. You ever watch those movies where the hero busts a crazy fast u-turn in their car when they need to get it done? Call me James Bond (no seriously, go ahead I don't mind the ego boost), but I pulled one of those bad boys in my quest to explore downtown Salt Lake. Having missed this interesting spot (and their Oasis Cafe establishment downstairs), I pulled my car into the parking lot above, and descended into the bookstore below. This is one of those bookstores that are for those seeking a peaceful place, with books that cater to specifically those kind of folks... not necessarily me, but I was definitely intrigued by the setup, the peaceful music, and the smell of calming scented oils. The bookshelves were lined with very interesting finds, and the store clerks were equally mellow and helpful. Also, if you're interested, there are psychics in the back of the bookstore. Golden Braid is in the same vein as Dancing Crane. A good place to check out, if you're interested in taking strides towards self enlightenment and higher consciousness. If you're like me, and find this type of learning alluring, you're going to love it here. Even if you're skeptical or outright dismissive of the aforementioned, it's still a really beautiful store looks wise. You know what else I love about Golden Braid? The fact that it's not in a mall, conventional or strip. Meaning that there's a good chance you're going to skip crowds and tetris like parking scenarios. You can expect a good variety of literature here, in addition to tarot cards, jewelry, information about a wide range of practices, astrology and the like. I have gone to the Braid since it was on broadway when I was a teen. This place is fantastic, although it has changed over the years. It IS a pricey store and I was very sad to see their used book section go, but they have a great energy here and I always feel welcome. The staff are friendly and helpful, even when it is busy. I have always been able to get help looking at jewelry and they never act 'put out' if you decide not to get something. I will say, on the downside though, there are a lot more expensive gifts and a lot less holistic/metaphysical items for sale than I would like. Also, their stone/crystal selection is poor. That is definitely not enough to dissuade me from coming back, but certainly could use a little improving. All in all, even after all the changes over the years, the essential heart of this place remains intact. That is why I continue to come back. read more

After having an Astrological reading from Shawn, I asked how the chart was created. Shawn admitted that he simply pulls charts from on-line and recites the information. I am very disappointed since there wasn't any "intuitive' or "spiritual guidance' in the entire process. If you are looking for clarification in your life and think an astrological chart will help you, I recommend paying the $25 on-line cost versus $125 plus tip. You'll gain the same understanding with out the misleading advertising/story. Peace read more

Fun 'new agey' bookstore and gift shop. I started going here years ago when I first bought my first condo downtown, but they moved from a teeny tiny shop on 3rd to this marvelous location. Their slogan is "An Oasis in the City" and this rings true. Enter and feel your blood pressure drop and tension drop, with the music, water features and decor. Be sure to try the in house restaurant (good Sunday brunch). The staff here are helpful and encourage you to hang out and enjoy. Lots of comfy seats to read a bit. Beautiful patio with fireplace and flowers. And don't panic, there is always a psychic counselor available, lol. Often there are free Saturday classes and demonstrations. Look on the pinboard near the bathrooms for classes and interesting courses, or post your own ad for a roommate or to teach a class. read more

I recently popped in after dining at The Oasis Cafe and found it a pleasant segue from a tasty meal. It is similar in atmosphere to the Oasis Cafe and wandering over seemed the natural thing to do. As for variety, it is less discriminatory than most "new age-y" bookstores and offered a variety of titles/authors, trinkets and all around what's-it's to enjoy during your last sips of coffee. Oh and suprise (!) available psychics on the premises. I especially liked that they lacked the general aura of bullshit when I asked (because...uh... a friend of mine would like to know) how much their cheapest session would be "for a gift... or whatever". At the least, stop in to see their collection of cards - ranging from the creative, absurd, and downright hilarious... and if you must, yes they also have ones with actual life affirming blah blah messages. Like I said - It will be good for you. Bonus: Check out the rad fireplace in the courtyard with the stone seating. Serious. read more

Its no Barnes and Noble but its exactly what I want when I have 45 minutes to kill while i'm waiting for a table at Oasis Cafe. They have everything here including card readers! But as the years have gone by it has gone from a store with a relaxing atmosphere, with a female aura, that brought out the beauty in everything. I had my very first experience at Golden Braid Books today. I love the energy of the place, the positive vibes that circle throughout the store. I was quite impressed at their selection and the uniqueness of the content they sell. I was surprised to see a children's book section as well. There were areas for psychic readings. They didn't seem to be quite as private as I would want if I were getting a reading done in the store. However, I probably won't ever get a psychic reading so that's not really a concern of mine. I was able to listen in on a bit of someone's reading as I walked throughout the store looking at pocket charms, crystals and chimes. Such a great little find. It's an eclectic bookstore. Not your Barnes and Noble type though. Here you will find books on meditation and how to center yourself, lots of candles and yoga things- statues for your meditation corner etc. a great place for the yogi or "hippie" so to speak. I LOVE it. They have beautiful jewelry and finds for the home and garden as well as lotions, candles, books, clothes, cards and music. Many of this is locally made or created. They even have items for kids. It's a great place to browse and get lost in. The bookstore is attached to Oasis Cafe. One of my favorite place to go to ( the cafe and the bookstore).
