General Tso's combo with white rice
    Courtney L.

Ordered takeout last night from Golden China. Food was ready in 10 minutes, which is fast! The food came as ordered and was decently good. It's priced very well, a combo for about $8.95 which includes rice, egg roll, and a meal - I had general Tso's chicken. It was warm and tasted good. Your traditional Chinese food. It appears to be a family company - inside their son was working to take orders. Despite all the bad reviews, I enjoyed our meal!

This review is for the Golden China restaurant on Longill Road win Williamsburg, VA. Went here for lunch at around 11:30 on a Wednesday, and was greeted warmly by the cashier who spoke very good English. I ordered steamed dumplings, spring rolls, and a small pork loin Mein. The total was $15 even (a fair price!) and was told about 15 minutes. I went to go get some gas at the 7-11 while the food was cooking, and came back about 10 minutes later and it was already waiting for me :) The food was delicious! The pork lo Mein was very tasty, and had a great meat/noodle/veggie ratio. Not too oversaturated with oil. The steamed dumplings were actually steamed (as opposed to a lot of takeout places that boil them instead of steam them), but were a little on the bland side for the filling. Btw, you can tell when a dumpling is boiled when it's wet, and the chopsticks slip and can't pick them up. A steamed dumplings will stick to the chopsticks. The spring rolls were golden and crispy, and tasted great. It did not come with sweet and sour sauce, so be sure to grab a few duck sauce packets on your way out if you're ordering takeout. Overall, really satisfied with their service, prices, and food quality. Just one note: they advertise Japanese food as well, but it is a very small apartment of their menu, and they DO NOT SERVE SUSHI. But, I will definitely be eating here for my next Chinese craving!

The atmosphere: It's a small restaurant best suited for small groups, though there are a few tables that can accommodate larger parties. You order at the cashier and they bring the food to your table. There's also a self-serve drink station, and they provide free water cups that you can refill. The food: We started with the takoyaki and chicken karaage. The takoyaki was good, but fairly standard. The chicken karaage portion was generous, and the pieces were large. The coating was lighter than what I'm used to, which kept the chicken juicy, but it did make it a bit oily. I also wished there was more seasoning in the chicken or batter since I ended up relying on the spicy mayo sauce quite a bit. For my entree, I ordered the pork katsu with rice and tonkotsu sauce. It was fine, but nothing particularly memorable. I also would've preferred a slaw instead of just a few pieces of lettuce. Portions overall were big, and the dishes are definitely shareable. The service: Service was touch-and-go, very much a fast-casual setup.

Thai Tara is our hands-down favorite restaurant. Not only in Williamsburg, where we recently moved,…read morebut nationwide. And that isn't mere hyperbole. Before we moved to Williamsburg, we visited the area for vacations, and Thai Tara is alway the first place we go for dinner and the final meal before leaving. Whether you crave the freshest Sushi/Sashimi or you prefer authentic Thai street food, you will find it here. We have traveled to Bangkok many times, and from first hand experience can say without exaggerating that the Chicken Sate or Fresh Rolls are as authentic as you might find at the street markets in BKK. The Tom Kha and Tom Yum soups are a treat. The extensive selection of warm Thai dishes like Pad Thai and Penang Curry are outstanding. We often include a hand roll or a selection of Sashimi from the Sushi bar in our orders. Never has the sushi bar prepared anything less than perfect. And if you want a real treat, finish your meal with a Mango Sticky Rice. Although small in size, it's surely is a dessert of the gods. An extensive bar is also on hand at Thai Tara for your favorite hand mixed cocktail, umbrella drink or beer, including Thailand's own Singha, a refreshing lager. Plan to arrive early because this cozy (but not small) place gets very busy, especially on weekends. Parking can be tight. But even in the busiest evenings, service is always prompt, attentive, and with a Thai smile.

Make sure to scroll all the way down on your selections to see all the options/toppings. FOOD: ~Poke Bowls: I got the 2 protein option and my husband got the 3 protein option with rice. The salmon and tuna was solid (they were cubed), and the spicy tuna was the chopped and dressed type. The flavor and texture of the spicy tuna was good. ~Toppings: they have a bunch of different options for toppings where you can choose as many as you want, with only a few of them having a surcharge. ~~the ones we got were cucumber, edamame, green onion, ginger, crab salad (shredded kani), seaweed salad, garlic crisp, roasted seaweed, and fried onions. Everything was good ~Sauce (you can choose up to 2): got the standard sriracha mayo which was tasty ~Shrimp Shumai (3.5/5): standard - note they were deep fried ~Shrimp Tempura (4/5): solid - very crispy and good sized shrimp ~Thai Tea (3.8/5) with boba (2/5): thai tea had good flavor and just creamy enough. The boba was not good though. Overall, this place was good and better than I expected.
