Most of us ordered from the build your lunch menu that starts with soup or salad and also includes an appetizer, choice of rice, and three entree selections. It's also nicely presented on a plate with areas for each. Plus, there's always some remaining to bring home. All for about $17. Service is friendly and efficient. I would give 0 if I could. I am in a funk in terms of what I felt like eating earlier today. I happened to be in New Town area, killing time and saw this restaurant. I went in and looked at the menu. This is what I called a confused restaurant. Menu covered Japanese, Thai, Chinese, and Korean food. I should have known better to never eat at a confused restaurant. Still, too tired to search other restaurants, I went ahead and ordered Gal Bi, out of gazillion different dishes. My thought was how hard is it to screw up Gal Bi. It's such a very simple, easy to make K dish. Nope, I was wrong! No flavor, it's super oily, and because they are not specialized K restaurants, they didnt have bibimbap sauce to alleviate its bland flavors. I only had 2 little ribs and asked to box up the rest. I chose the following and all were delicious: Egg Drop Soup Pork Dumplings Lo mein Kung po chicken Moo goo gai pan chicken Sesame chicken Plenty of food for the price and I took home a good amount of leftovers. Husband enjoyed the two roll lunch combo. Service is friendly and food took average time to arrive. The decor inside is very nice and I enjoy the very padded chairs. As usual food was great, service was great. My problem in their policy of tables of 5 or more tip added to bill. We were 4 adults and a two year old. To me that does no justify the automatic adding of tip. I was not happy when I saw that it had been added. Did we look like we were not going to tip? Our ticket was around $150. This is a great spot to go to for lunch. There isn't much of a wait and the restaurant is pretty quiet. The Hawaiian poke bowl is good, but the create your own lunch is even better. You get a little salad or soup, then choose an appetizer, type of rice and three main items. I think the different kinds of shrimp and the green beans have a balance of spicy and sweet. read more

Located in a busy shopping village in Williamsburg, VA next to the movie theater (that has plenty of parking) decided to have dinner here during a visit to Williamsburg. This is a multi Asian concept Chinese and Japanese so it has a variety of items from both cuisines. My friend had been here before and said it's one of the better options for Asian food in the area. It was just ok. The decor is cute and from the people coming in they do a solid takeout business. Our server was very nice, but service was slow. Sushi was ok. I ordered the maki special and selected the spicy tuna, shrimp tempura roll and California rolls. We also ordered a wonton soup and pork shrimp dumplings. Verdict - when I go again? We hadn't been here in a long while, but were in the neighborhood and thought we'd pop in. I'm so glad we did! After a couple of minutes' wait (like 3, maybe) we were seated. Our waiter brought water, and by the time he got back with our tea, our choices had leapt out of the menu and shouted "OOH! OOH! PICK MEEEE!!" My Bride got the Pineapple Fried Rice. It's literally a pineapple stuffed with shrimp fried rice. Delicious! I got the Walnut Shrimp, an excellent choice of if I do say so myself. Battered and fried shrimp and candied walnuts in a sweet creamy sauce- I had to restrain myself from licking the plate! Ichiban is located in swanky New Town Center. As locals it's our go to, never fail sushi place. The service is always very good. The small touches make the restaurant very enjoyable. When you sit down the server brings you warm towels to wipe your hands. Even in summer this is extremely refreshing and in colder months it's a great way to start the meal. Tonight we had assorted rolls of tuna, salmon, honey, and Godzilla. Each roll has its own flavor and the fish is extremely fresh. The wine selection is really good. You can get a decent bottle of wine or reasonably priced glass to enjoy w the meal. On previous visits I've had their house margarita, and it was very good. The gyoza is also very good and go to favorite. You can enjoy a meal alone or with company and never feel rushed to leave, even if it's a busier time. Cheers! read more

Everything was great, maybe a tad too salty for me, but I still ate 4 big spoonfuls of each just to test it. The Gyoza were great and had a dipping liquid with them. I ate 3 immediately. Portion size was amazing. I got maybe twice more than I expected. The downside was that with all this tasty, hot food, they didn't send any utensils. I asked for utensils and napkins on the order. That was disappointing. However, they sent lovely packets of condiments and a fortune cookie in a very meticulously folded package. Over the last two years, Ichibon has been our go to sushi restaurant in Williamsburg because of the amazing value of an all you can eat lunch special. And the sushi was always fresh. Our recent revisit we found that the menu was totally reformatted, and the all you can eat special was gone. Again, we found all of the sushi we ordered to be absolutely fresh and delicious - maybe better than before. I tried the Chicken Penang Curry and the sauce was absolutely perfect. But here's the rub: one would need a microscope to find the pieces of chicken. For another example, the vegetable tempura was delicious but again, a very small portion. On the whole, as I said, food was delicious, but the portions were very small and the prices have gone up. I recommend Ichiban but prepared to spend more than you thought for a simple lunch. read more

They also offer carry-out service. We've eaten here many times and every time has been a delight. Fantastic service great atmosphere and even better food. This is a restaurant you will going and they will treat you like family. It's the type of place you only need one drink with because they're that fast with their service. I had the house special duck and my girlfriend had the kung poa chicken . They were both delicious the duck was so tender I could cut it with my fork. The plum wine I got paired well with the duck as it was sweet and broke up the salty savory flavor of the duck and its sauce. We arrived at Ichiban at the last day of our Williamsburg trip. I was expecting a stripmall buffet type of experience but we happened upon the most walkable part of Williamsburg by this restaurant. There was a movie theater, a bunch of nice restaurants, and even an axe throwing venue. Ichiban wasn't serving their sushi buffet. Apparently that is only for weekday lunch. Instead it was ala carte dining at a pretty nice environment. We opted for the: spicy beef tendon pot - excellent taste and cool sorta unique presentation gal bi - good but not as great as its made at good Korean restaurants (or my house marinated courtesy of my wife and grilled by me). Not a bad price though. Thai drunken noodles with shrimp - we asked for extra spicy but it wasn't really spicy. It was a little bit saturated in sweet sauce (Americanized). Also the noodles weren't the wide rice noodles we were expecting. They were the pad thai type of noodles. A little disappointing but not bad. House special duck - battered and deep fried but totally delicious. Good portion size. Volcano roll - pretty good special sushi roll with fresh tasting fish and tightly made. The sake we had was amazing too. Fuji apple flavored Hana sake. I think $17 and my wife and I both had enough delicious drink to have. I'll definitely pick up a bottle next time I'm at Total Wine. The service was slow. Our waitress was running around all night. Food took a while to be served after ordering... maybe 40 minutes. Other than that it was a very good meal! read more

On the referral of a local resident this is the best Asian cuisine in the area we are about to see for ourselves greeted by a sweet server holding warm washcloths to wash our cold hands and we are off to a great start in etiquette and attentiveness! To kick it off on this chilly day we ordered Egg drop soup and hot and sour soup to warm our souls this chilly day and what a delicious delight both were silky full of flavor and most importantly hot! Ichiban has the best lunch special maybe in the entire country. It is $17 (including tax) for all you can eat sushi, apps and kitchen dishes. Yes. You read that correctly. It is unlimited. I just returned from Chicago where two sushi rolls ran me $20+. I just had four rolls today for lunch for $17. While the price is out of this world so is the quality. The sushi is fresh and they make it right in the back. For us, we sat at the sushi bar so they made it right in front of us. The flavors are great and portions are perfect. Dinner here is good too but man if you are looking for lunch in Williamsburg on a weekday, look no further than Ichiban. Come hungry! read more

Terrible service! The place is 80% empty when 8 of us walked in , an old lady who is the glass a glass. She asked 2 co-workers to set up the table. 3 minutes later, we told them that we have two more friends coming. The old lady was very unhappy and told us that you have to wait for another 15 minutes for us to set up another table, You told me 8 people earlier! . They have 5 , 5 waiter and hanging around doing nothing. We left right away. Went cross street to Pisco 51, they said, please wait a second. Then set up a table for all us in 2 minutes. Then we found out that this IChiban is not authentic japanese food. Anyway, they should learn to provide better customer service. Too bad. owner lost at least $300+ revenue since we all drink. The service is beyond disrespectful. The lady in front who usually wears the white shirt and glasses is the most rude individual I've ever come in contact with in the service industry. I was hesitant to even leave this review until I read other reviews that described her behavior. I too, had assumed she was having a bad day. Unfortunately this place has gone downhill since the last time I was there. This review is for dinner. The only reason this is not one star is that our server was great. Other than that: - Prices have gone up quite a bit. I could live with that except: - No soup served with entrees any more - No wontons served before your meal arrives - 3 out of four people in our party got their meals in a decent amount of time. Unfortunately mine was no where to be found. By the time my orange chicken arrived everyone else was almost done. Manager response to their mistake was deplorable. I called in an order for pickup and the order was incorrect with one item missing and $23 of vegetable dumplings and asparagus added to the order. I called back immediately and the young lady who had taken the order acknowledged the error and retook my credit card info to refund the difference. A short while later the manager called me back saying that I must drive back to Williamsburg, from Kiln Creek (24 miles each direction) to return the vegetables before he would issue my refund. A photo would not suffice. I explained the inconvenience to no avail. Although the order taker had acknowledged and apologized for their error, the manager disavowed it demanded that I return the food to Williamsburg to get my refund. read more

This place is your average Asian restaurant. They don't specialize in a particular cuisine - there's some sushi, traditional Chinese dishes, and even pad thai. The best thing on their menu is definitely the pineapple fried rice. I highly recommend it! I also love their hot and sour soup. They have some meals where soup or another starter is included, so go for the hot and sour when you have the option. The atmosphere is nice, but prices are a little high. You definitely pay for the aesthetic as well as the food. However, the location is convenient and Newtown always has plenty of parking, even if it's not right outside the restaurant's door. I'm personally aware of two different kitchen fires they've had, as I was present for one (in the restaurant next door) and was told it was no big deal and had happened before. However, that was a while ago and I did return to Ichiban since hearing that, so do with that information what you will. read more

With the fancier than average decor, we sometimes save it for when we feel like having a meal where we get to sit down and eat with both hands and enjoy it. My wife and I decided to take advantage of the lunch specials and grab a quick meal. I don't know if the lunchtime cook is simply new or if they are changing the recipes, but today's meal was not as refined as the dinners have been in the past. We've had trouble finding really good Asian food in Williamsburg, but Ichiban is usually a solid 4 out of five stars. Todays carry out meal was missing some ingredients and was very heavily breaded, lacking the delicate flavors that we normally find. My wife suggested two stars, but I'm averaging it up to three stars in the hope that our next visit is back to four stars. read more

We were a larger party, of six, and we waited a good 30 minutes to be seated. So I'd recommend getting reservations for large parties. Then we waited another good 20 minutes to get food other than our appetizer. The sushi that my family ordered was good. But everything other than that was mediocre. I ordered the japchae with beef and it was terrible. The noodles stuck to each other and when I ate them I was scared I'd choke they were so chewy and long. And I've had japchae from actual Korean restaurants before but this one had no flavor and the beef was oily and had a weird texture as well.
