The closest Golden corral to me is Merriville Indiana and also in Mishawaka Indiana, but I have to say the Golden corral here in Springfield Illinois is the cleanest most organized golden corral I have been to the food was hot and filled at all times the counters were clean. The floors were clean. The staff was so friendly and on top of things with the rest of these golden corral should take notice as how you run yours because I have to say it was a wonderful experience. They literally had butter that looked just like eggs and someone got a ton of it and tried a big bite and they found out it was butter in disguise. the workers were so disrespectful and rude to us and others they would role their eyes and the food was horrible and unsanitary for people to be consuming with the Mac and cheese looking so wet that nobody dared to touch it and the French fries were greasy and soggy the whole place sucked. My friend was crying over the ice cream because it was so bad. He went to the bathroom and never came back the place looked disgusting I brought wipes, not thinking I would have to use them. Generally good chicken, those working the grill on steaks dont seem to know the difference between rare, medium rare, medium, or medium well and just cut the steak on the grill and show customers. The baked tilapia was undercooked pink through most of the fish so be careful. Most of the food was ok for buffet standards. My drink remained empty for 10 minutes and plates were not cleared in a timely manner, in fairness the servers for lack of a better word at a buffet seemed to be understaffed. read more

My friend and I eat here about once a month or so. We have always had a very nice experience, the food is good, drinks refilled promptly, dishes cleared, deserts to die for. There have been the occasional issue with the other diners, rude, sloppy, kids running around but it isn't the staffs fault. They can't control other people's actions. It's a sign of the times. We had no complaints whatsoever regarding our dining experience here. We came in right at opening and were pleased to see a good group waiting. The food bars were all stocked and ready. The hot food was hot and the cold foods were cold. There was a very good variety of options so we were able to get many things we really enjoy. Our server was very attentive and kept our drinks full. This is a clown show, the food is dry, taste like cardboard and the only good food is the fries, yet they still add to much salt. However the fruit is moldy and old, probably half ate by a rat, the food also gets cold really fast. The service is a joke, when I stoop up for 5 seconds immediately they made me sit down, and they rejected to serve me coffee. The overall quality of this place is terrible, it looks like it was built by Abraham Lincoln himself. There is mold everywhere and the sealing looks like it's about to collapse. Difficulty understanding some of the bad reviews. We hadn't been to the Corral in years, but driving through Springfield, after miles on the road, we were tired of burgers and one-style menus. The Corral hit the spot. The fresh and varied ingredients for salads can't be beaten anywhere. The chicken, beef, and ham choices were excellent. Hot vegetables are hard to keep fresh on a buffet, but their choices were interesting. The pie crusts are failures in the dessert bar, but the variety of choices makes up for it. And the friendly waitresses don't seem to get much of a tip from many who come to "eat their fill", but we made up for that. At $10, it's a bargain if you know how to make choices and you want to leave feeling not "stuffed" but satisfied. read more

Predictability is the hallmark of chain restaurants. This GC location kept the food trays fresh, the counters wiped, the plate bins full, the tables cleaned, and the floors swept. Came about 4pm. Not really busy at all. Wasn't greeted at all when walking in. 3 young boys at cash counter horse playing. A female manager came up as I finished paying, and 2 of the boys started complaining about being here since 7am. Nobody to seat us, so we had to walk around the restaurant to find a place to sit 5. The waiter didn't even pay attention to our drink order, just brought us 4 rootbeers and very watered-down cherry coke. Each of which weren't even full. Had to tell him 3 times. So we ended up with 4 extra drinks just sitting at our table. Waiter never once came and checked on us while eating. Never once were offered drink refills. Waited till we had a mountain of plates on the edge of table in the way of current plates before removing any. As I'm sitting here typing this he's still never came by asking about refills. Table next to us sat down and were eating before he took their drink order. By far the worst experience ever here. The food was hot and fresh as it was turning supper time. We were just here for a very large school field trip group on a busy Friday evening and I have to say that GC did a fantastic job accommodating everyone. The staff was on point from the time we pulled up in the bus (they actually got on the bus and spoke to our group) and throughout our meal. They had drinks, plates, and silverware waiting for us. The waitress/bussing staff was on top of it! The food was really good. It was my first time at GC and I was actually impressed at how everything was well stocked and maintained. The man working the grill was doing a fantastic job and he was very polite and friendly. The steak was fresh and very tasty. The fried catfish was awesome!! I really have to give props to this GC. I like Golden Corral, it is basic comfort food. All of their staff makes minimum wage, so they are only going to provide you with a basic level of service. They do not have a fantastic selection of food but they have all the basics. I get the same thing each and every time. I get what I consider the best food they have to offer. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy, fried butterfly shrimp, pot roast, deviled eggs, banana pudding, chocolate pie, strawberry shortcake, cheesecake. That is it. Any of the meats they grill or carve are the absolute WORST cuts of meat I've ever been served. They are tough as shoe leather and super salty. DON'T EVER GET THE PRIME RIB!!!! SUPER FATTY AND TOUGH, POOREST QUALITY. Absolutely GROSS. All of the cooked vegetables they serve, along with their mac and cheese comes out of a can. The Chinese and Mexican dishes they offer are a complete joke and taste HORRIBLE So if you stick to the few items I recommended you'll be happy. I really need to stop eating at this place. For my family of four it usually costs us about $50. Their food is always below average and their bathrooms are always gross. We've gone to many Golden Corrals because it's my kids favorite place to eat after gymnastics meets. They eat a lot so they can earn their trip to the dessert bar. My kids love it. My husband and I on the other hand always leave disappointed. Too over cooked and unfriendly for the price we pay. We visited this particular location while passing through on our road trip. I probably go here once a year and that's usually because some requests it for their birthday. It's always so overcrowded and people could care less what they wear here....maybe that's because it's right next door to a Walmart. The prices aren't bad for the good selection. The food, on the other hand is consistently cold, the lines to get something are extremely long so that by the time you reach your table, it's definitely cold, unless you eat one thing at a time. The crowdedness is very overwhelming. I'm in a wheelchair trying to handle my plate with one hand and my chair with another and people act as if they don't see me most of the time. I have never eaten at a Golden Corral before, but knowing my grandpa, he loves anywhere that he can get a good bang for his buck. I had lunch here with my grandparents. Maybe I should say "linner" since I was so stuffed for the rest of the day, that I didn't eat anything for dinner! I would have given 3 stars, but our server at this location was particularly sweet and on top of her game, earning the 4th. Not only did she have my iced tea refills brought out before I asked, but she grabbed the correct kind of iced tea every time, which was impressive, since she didn't take my initial drink order. She just knew by looking at my glass! The food itself was mostly quite good. The order of the food is a little strange, at least to me. The crackers, if you want crackers in your soup, are by the salad, even though the soup is not by the salad. So I did a lot of walking around to get what I wanted. The fried chicken was a little on the dry side. But the pulled pork was great, as were all of their biscuits and rolls, which is really saying something because I can be a carb snob. And of course, don't forget to visit their awesome dessert station after you've filled your first stomach with plates of food. Food is pretty good! In general! 9/10 It's worth the price but still something has gotta improve. The grilled steak(counter) is always full of people, but because the steak they have isn't enough, but they only have ONE counter. And the steak is okay for $12 entrance ticket. Just it always comes with probably 9/10 cooked. Drinks kinda bore you if you expect much. And u gotta buy your drink when you enter the food area. Just soda, unsweetened soda, beer. When you go in you can have coffee I think. But help yourself! Most of the stuff is fried. So healthy group, out. $12 for a dish of salad isn't really worth it is it??
